Yuguda sues APC chieftain for N10bn over defamation

Former Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, has dragged a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in the State, Alhaji Sani Shehu, before the Bauchi State High Court 9, for alleged defamatory utterances against his personality and his administration.

He is seeking for N10bn as damages.

Counsel to the plaintiff (Yuguda), Mr. Okechukwu Nwaeze, who disclosed this to journalists in Bauchi on Friday, said the former governor filed the suit before the court seeking N10bn damages in an action against Sani Mallam over his allegations that Yuguda was corrupt and fraudulent during his tenure as the governor of the state.

Okechukwu said the plaintiff complained of the APC chieftain’s reckless and defamatory public comments about his personality and administration on two radio stations: Ray power FM and the Bauchi Radio Corporation.

The counsel alleged that Mallam, who was a former All Nigeria Peoples Party Chairman in the state, “accused Yuguda of woeful performance, excessive looting of public treasury, name-calling such as election rigger and manipulator. All these statements tempered with the reputation and personality of the former governor.

“It is not right to persecute people in the media. If the man is guilty of any fraud, the defendant should provide the proof or otherwise focus on his political activities.

“Our prayers are that the court should issue an order for the defendant to tender an apology in two national dailies and two online papers. The defendant should also be banned from featuring on such political programmes in media houses and should pay the sum of N10bn damages to the plaintiff.”

The Presiding Judge, Justice Muazu Abubakar, adjourned the case to October 6, 2015 for mentioning.

Drama at Ooni’s palace: Wives, children barred from Ooni’s burial

The final burial rites of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, was performed on Friday, but his wives, children and family members were unable to pay their last respects as they were barred from the programme.

Some other people who had expected to see the body of the monarch lie in state were also disappointed as his remains were neither brought out for people to see nor was any casket displayed during the burial service.

The event was attended by the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Rear Admiral Akin Aduwo (retd.), Gen. Alani Akinriande (retd.), Senator Babajide Omoworare, Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko and many other dignitaries and government representatives.

A source at the palace said that no member of the royal family was allowed to see the remains of the monarch since he was brought back to the palace.

He said, “As we are holding this interdenominational service here, those concerned are performing their own rites inside the palace where the body is kept.

“You can see that the gates of the palace are locked and nobody is allowed to go inside. Nobody can see him again except those who will bury him.

“The wives and children were not even supposed to see his corpse at all but tradition was broken this time around because he (Sijuwade) died in London. But no family member can see him again. Those performing the rites are there now and they will complete it today (Friday). He will be buried in the middle of the night, but nobody will be there apart from those who will lower him into the grave.”

The source said those who saw the bodies of the previous Oonis were attacked by smallpox and did not survive the ailment.

A monarch in Osun State, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that traditional rulers of the town went to various shrines, including the Obalufon shrine in Ife to perform some rites for Sijuwade on Friday.

The monarch said, “Nobody can see the Ooni, not even the US President, Barrack Obama. We are with him. It’s only the initiates who can see him. His wives and children cannot see him.”

During the service, the Preacher, Bishop of Ife Diocese of Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Oluranti Odubogun, said despite his riches, Oba Sijuwade died when it was God’s time to take him away.

The bishop, who was represented by the Very Rev. Olusola Akanbi, said the Ooni brought fame and popularity to his domain.

His said the monarch’s demise demonstrated that every mortal man would die no matter their status.

He said, “Baba has gone. He will stand before the King of Kings who will judge what he did while here on earth.

“Some persons have started jostling to succeed him now but we must all remember the judgement day when we will give account of all that we did on earth.

“I urge you to make today a memorable one and give your life to Christ. Jesus is the only way, accept him today.”

But as the interdenominational service was about to take off, there was a mild drama as worshippers of Oro cult in Ife, also called Isoro, stormed the venue and attempted to stop the service. The worshippers claimed that it was a sacrilege to hold an interdenominational service for the departed king. And as the service went on outside the palace, the traditional worshippers sang and danced inside the palace.

Women barred

It was learnt that as part of the palace tradition and custom, women are forbidden from entering the palace while traditional rites are being performed for a passing monarch.

As the interdenominational service was going on, sounds of gunshots suddenly rent the air, making some of those present at the service to scamper for safety.

A reliable source told Saturday PUNCH that more gunshots would be fired later in the day, as from 5.00 pm, adding that curfew to last for seven days would start by 4.00 pm on Friday.

One of the palace chiefs, Sooko Adelugba, also added that many parts of the town had already been deserted by residents who were eager to comply with the curfew as announced by the palace.

One of the initiates however said it was an abomination to speak publicly of traditional rites offered for a departed Ooni.

His final resting place

Meanwhile, fresh facts have emerged as to why the monarch would be buried beside the immediate past Ooni, Oba Adesoji Aderemi.

It was gathered that the cemetery inside the palace, where other Oonis were buried, was full, which informed the decision to build a mausoleum inside the palace for Oba Aderemi.

The mausoleum is said to be located at the rear end of the palace.

A palace source said the final resting place of Sijuwade had been constructed in the mausoleum, adding that the cemetery inside the palace is called Ile Nla (mighty house).

Traditionalists clash with residents

The worshippers of Oro cult in Ife, also called ‘Isoro’, clashed with residents who were erecting tents for the interdenominational burial service at the frontage of Enuwa Palace.

A prominent chief in Ife, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the ‘Isoro’ descended on the people who erected the tents because they (initiates) wanted to observe a seven-day burial rites for the departed king.

The chief said, “The ‘Isoro’ saw the erection of tents for an interdenominational burial service as a sacrilege against custom and tradition.

“They descended on the people erecting the tents and flogged them heavily. They destroyed the tents and swore never to allow anybody do any interdenominational service at the palace.”

The chief revealed that the state government had to wade into the crisis before the service was allowed.

He said, “It took the intervention of officials of the state government, who appealed to the ‘Isoro’ to allow the people to hold the interdenominational service before the issue was resolved. If not for the intervention of the state government, the interdenominational service would not have been allowed.”

Meanwhile, Saturday PUNCH learnt that Sijuwade’s family members flew to see his body immediately after he transited in a highbrow hospital in England.

Investigation by Saturday PUNCH revealed that Sijuwade’s eldest son, Tokunbo, and some other family members flew to England immediately the monarch breathed his last to join the king’s three wives, Morisola, Ladun and Odunola – who were already there.

Morisola is the eldest wife, Ladun is the second wife and Odunola, who is the daughter of the immediate past Orangun of Ila, is the youngest wife.

It was learnt that the family members flew down to England to pay their last respect to the departed monarch.

The Araba of Osogbo land, Chief Yemi Elebuibon disclosed that the corpse of the Ooni belonged to Ile-Ife and not his family.

He said, “The traditional burial rites of the kings of Ile-Ife and Oyo are strictly complied with and they are comprehensive.

“When the Ooni dies, the body becomes that of the town. The ‘Isoro’ cult group will take over. The ‘Isoro’ initiates are the ones who worship the ‘Oro’ deity.

“It is the ‘Isoro’ people that would inform the various deities, who were worshipped and appeased when the Ooni was crowned, that he (the monarch) is no more.

“It’s a rite. Nothing must stop it.”

The Araba dispelled the belief that the heart of the late king would be fed to the next Ooni.

He said, “The eating of the heart of a departed King by an incoming one belonged to the past. It no longer exists. People still make this insinuation because many are barred from witnessing the burial of a king.

“What the incoming king will eat is the heart of an animal and not that of a human. Nobody would be buried with the Ooni. Nobody would be killed for any form of sacrifice.”

Elebuibon explained that animals are now used for the burial rites of Yoruba Obas because of modernisation, noting that Christianity and Islam also stopped the use of humans for sacrifice when God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son, Isaac.

I am not Buhari’s in-law –Zakari

The Acting Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs. Aminat Zakari, denying claims that she is President Muhammadu Buhari’s in-law, has said that she has the capacity to be the substantive INEC Chairman despite being a woman.

Zakari disclosed this in an interview with Saturday PUNCH in Abuja on Friday.

Zakari, who dismissed an insinuation that she could not effectively perform as INEC Chairman because of her gender, said she was not desperate to retain the job in a substantive capacity.

She stated, “I am a human being first. I have the capacity. If I have the ability to do something and there are ways and means of achieving your targets. You don’t rely on your brain alone. You have other people to rely on. I have done administration. I have worked in organisations that demand accountability.”

The INEC acting chairman explained that she was not appointed commissioner in INEC by Buhari, adding that former President Goodluck Jonathan had appointed her.

“I can’t say the General (Buhari) is my in-law. I am not married to his son. My daughter is not married to him. That is what I understand about being an in-law, but obviously, in life, you have acquaintances, people you have known,” she said.

Adding that Buhari was not known for nepotism, she said, “God decides who becomes (a) leader; if God decides I would be the one to continue, I will have to do my best.”

She stated, “I did not lobby for it (acting chairmanship). I had packed all my things out of INEC; I wanted to leave on the 30th (of June).

“I was just called on my way home as the chairman (Jega) handed over to Ambassador Wali. When I was called that the Head of Service was looking for me and I said, ‘what for?’ and I just continued driving. I was by Bullet House by the time I got the call and I just continued driving.

She also disclosed that the commission had sent some staff from its headquarters to Rivers State to assist in sorting out documents demanded by the state electoral tribunal.

Making Constructive Trouble: The Role of the Nigerian Youth in Ensuring Self-Development

(Address for International Youth Day (Wednesday, August 12, 2015) delivered by Olu Onemola at the National Youth Summit, organized by the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), Jabi, Abuja).

Before I begin, I would like to recognize the organizers of this event, the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) for bringing us all together, on a day like this.

Youth Leadership Summits like this one have become necessary, as we navigate our role in this new political dispensation.

Alvin Toffler, one of the foremost futuristic thinkers of our time, once said that the secret message that is being communicated to most young people today by the society around them is that they are not needed. And that the society will run itself quite nicely until they – at some distant point in the future – will take over the reigns of authority.

Yet the fact remains, Toffler says, that our society is not running itself nicely. It is for this reason, ladies and gentlemen, that today, more than ever, every society – Nigeria included –needs all the energy, brains, imagination and talent that young people can bring to bear down on many our difficulties.

You see, for the Nigerian society to think it can solve its desperate problems without the full participation of its young people is imbecilic. This is because time and again, Nigerian youth have proven to have this uncommon imagination, and creative energy to bring about change.

However, what we have experienced in Nigeria, is a situation where the older generation of Nigerians have sat back and watched the issue of youth unemployment skyrocket to astronomical figures. This is unacceptable.

For a country,  blessed as ours –with 170 million people – to have raised a generation where 51.1% of our population – or 90million people – as at last year, cannot read or write,  is beyond my simple comprehension.

Now, contrary to what many of you might believe; today, being International Youth Day – a day set aside to push for the engagement and the participation of youths; I am not here to lay the blame of the Nigerian societies’ lack of involvement in the development of its young people at the feet of the Nigerian society.

On the contrary, today, I am here to lay out a challenge, to every youth and young person seated in this hall. This challenge is also to every young man and woman who has ever felt that their current predicament is not their final position, and to all of you, who are here today, who came to this National Youth Summit wondering: “What does this new political dispensation have in store for me, as a young person?”

This challenge is simple, and it is based on three simple truths:

One: If you do not ask, you will not receive;

Two: If you do not take part, you cannot take charge, and;

Three: nobody – nobody at all – myself included, will ever give you anything that you did not deserve.

One: “Ask and You Shall Receive.”

This is one of the most famous lines from the Christian Bible. Matthew 7:7 teaches us that when we ask, we shall receive; when we seek, we shall find, and; when we knock, the doors shall be opened.

What does this mean to us as young people? This means that yes, based on the theme of today’s event: “The President’s Development Agenda, and the Nigerian Youth: The Way Forward” that we have come here to find answers on how to move the young people of this nation forward, collectively.

However, based on my challenge of a few minutes ago, we should not expect this or any administration to completely solve all our problems for us. We need to begin to look beyond those in positions of authority telling us what they can do for us.

By our votes, we put our leaders in in power; hence, we need to start collectively telling them what we demand of them. This, ladies and gentlemen, is “The What.”

Two: “If you do not take part, you cannot take charge.”

One of my friends, the ever-eloquent Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed of the APC, coined this phrase: “Take part, to take charge.” This simple provocation sums up how today, if you look closely, at the various state-wide administrations that are being formed, and in the Federal Government, young Nigerians like you and I, are being chosen and considered for defining roles.

For example, if you take a close look at the media team recently appointed by the President; the young team that surrounds the Vice-President, and; the online engagement team of the Senate President, we will notice that these offices are comprised of a majority of people our age.

What this implies is that the older generation is starting to realize that you cannot cage the vibrancy of youth.

What is also means is that now that the older guys have woken up – and realized what we as young people are capable of, it is our turn to look inwards, and force ourselves to realize that together, we can change anything. However we cannot do this if we do not get up off our backsides and living room couches, and take the crucial first step of walking through the door…

My Father, one of my mentors, always tells me: “Olu, it is one thing to be on the dining table when the food has been served; however, it is another thing entirely to be in the kitchen, when the food is being prepared.”

We, the young people of Nigeria, must now insist on being in the kitchen when the food is being prepared. We can no longer demand to only seat at the table.

We must be a part of the process, in order to take charge of the system.

We must first learn the ropes, before we can attempt to change the rules.

We have to be first seen, if we want to be later recognized. As it has been said that 80 percent of success is showing up, if we work to make sure that we are present in the rooms and corridors of power where the decisions are made – we will never be forgotten. This, ladies and gentlemen, is “The How.”

Three: We get what we deserve, and nothing more.

The late-great civil rights activist, Malcolm X, might have been a little extreme in his methods, however, he had the absolute right of it when he said: “Nobody, can give you freedom. Nobody, can give you equality, or Justice, or anything. If you’re a man, you take it.” You get what you deserve. Survival of the fittest.

You see, while we are busy and out there following step one and two: “Asking to Receive,” and “Taking Part to Take Charge,” we need to be careful not to deceive ourselves into believing that a simple question posed to the right person in power will solve our problems.

We need to not delude ourselves into thinking that taking part to take charge, or being present physically, will be enough to cut a lasting dent in the issues that affect us all.

We get what we deserve, hence, if we are docile, we can expect to always be forgotten.

If we are always in the simpleminded habit of receiving the scraps thrown down by those in authority – thinking that those scraps mean that we have been handed: “the ‘Change’ we need,” we can expect to always receive scraps for our efforts.

Today, as all around the world, youth like you and I, push for our collective inclusion and space in the political, economic, and social spheres of engagement, we must remember this one simple lesson:

While we are asking to receive; while we are seeking better opportunities and hoping to find them; while we are knocking on doors, and knocking DOWN doors, and throwing them open, so that we can take part, to ultimately take charge: we must always remember to make some constructive trouble.

Because the only way that we can truly re-negotiate the terms of Nigeria’s engagement with its young people, is by making those in power realize:

That the youth of Nigeria are not tools.

The youth of Nigeria are not tickets.

The youth of Nigeria are not a means to an end.

The youth of Nigeria are not simple potential voters when election time comes around.

Starting today, let us (again, I emphasize on this word) ‘collectively’ send out a new message.

Let us make our leaders realize that the youth of Nigeria are organized.

That the youth of Nigeria will no longer wait to be: “Leaders of tomorrow” – let us show them that we too are authorities of today.

Additionally, between ourselves, let us stop with the bickering, the partisanship, the ethnic rivalries, the violence, and all the other needless stupidity that is often used to separate us.

Let us forge ahead as one – with today as a crucial marking point, knowing that we hold our development in our own hands, and we have our own answers at our own finger-tips.

If we simply work together constructively, in a manner that is beneficial to the least of us, the society at large will begin to take us seriously.

The ball is in our court. How will we respond?

Nigerian Air Force Heats Up Anti Boko Haram Activities, Deploys More Combat Aircraft

In a renewed drive to crush the fighting will of the Boko Haram terrorist group, the Nigerian Air Force says it has deployed additional combat platforms to North East Nigeria in support of the ongoing counter-insurgency operation codenamed ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’.

The spokesperson for the Air Force, Dele Alonge, an Air Commodore, said in a statement Thursday that the new deployment came on the heel of the recent visit of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar to the operational areas.

The newly deployed platforms, according to Mr. Alonge, include the F-7Ni fighter aircraft, Mi-24/35 attack helicopters, Agusta 109 LUH, Supa Puma Combat Support helicopter and ATR-42 surveillance aircraft, which hitherto had been away for scheduled maintenance.

“The provision of additional platforms in the North-East is in line with President Mohammadu Buhari’s mandate to bring an end to insurgency in the North-East,” Mr. Alonge said.

“The new deployment is aimed at boosting existing military efforts to defeat the Boko Haram Terrorists. It is also expected to enhance the capability of the Nigerian Armed Forces to fight in a more proactive and efficient manner.”

9 Private Varsities Get Licences, 11 Receive Requirement Order

National Universities Commission, NUC, yesterday granted full operational licences to nine out of 20 private universities that were considered by the Commission, while 11 were given a grace of two years to meet the requirements or risk losing their provisional licences.

Presenting the licences to the nine lucky universities, the Executive Secretary, NUC, Professor Julius Okojie, congratulated the universities that were found worthy to be given full licence as a result of their extra effort at meeting all the requirement set forth by the Commission.

He extolled the commitment of the owners of those universities for their discipline and selflessness that led to making all the necessary sacrifice just to ensure that their universities not only got full accreditation, but also to meet the challenges of qualifying for full operational licence.

He, however, urged the remaining 11 that could not qualify to use the period within the next two years to work out their qualification, promising that the Commission would not hesitate to give them full licence if they qualify before the two years.

Fielding questions from newsmen, Okojie said the other 11 universities are expected to get their courses up to winning full accreditation and appoint governing council made up of men and women of reputation and commendable character that would oversee the running of the universities.

“The 11 universities not given full licence still have some things to put in place. All their courses must win full accreditation and they have to appoint governing council members comprising of men whose character is not in question.

“They should send names of such to us for submission to the Directorate of State Security for investigation and clearance. There must be evidence that they are financially buoyant to run the university. The Commission will visit the schools to see that these things are in place before giving them full licence”, he said.

Meanwhile, the NUC has said that private universities can apply for’);”>apply for funding for their research as there is a N3 billion research grant available and can be accessed by even scholars in the private universities.

Universities that got full licence include Salem, Caleb, Veritas, Afe Babalola, Nigerian Turkish Nile, Godfrey Okoye, Fountain, Adeleke and Western Delta Universities. Those that were extended for two years include Wesley University of Science and Technology, Landmark University, Paul University, Baze University, Obong University among others.

Wike Wants Peterside’s Petition Dismissed Over N100 Fee Default

Nyesom Wike and the Independent National Electoral Commission, on Friday asked the state Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja to dismiss the petition filed by the All Progressive Party and its candidate in the poll, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.

Wike and INEC predicated their prayer for the dismissal of the petition on the petitioners’ failure to pay a fee of N100 for the filing for the issuance of pre-hearing notice, Form TF007.

But counsel for Peterside and the APC, who are through their petition, challenging the declaration of Wike as the winner of the April 11 poll, Chief Akin Olujinmi (SAN), asked the Justice Muazu Pindiga-led tribunal to dismiss the respondents’ application for lacking in merit.

Olujinmi insisted that since the application for the pre-hearing notice was by a letter to the Secretary to the tribunal, his clients were not liable to pay for filing fee as such was not specifically provided for in any law.

He maintained that Paragraph 2 of the TF007 only made provision for the submission of the form and not filing which would have warranted payment of filing fee.

He added that even if his clients were required to pay the fee, failure to do so could only amount to a mere irregularity which the tribunal could direct them to pay at any time.

He also maintained that his clients, like other pa?rties to the petition, had made a deopsit of N500,000 security fund to the tribunal, so the tribunal could easily deduct N100 from the said money if it was a must that the N100 fee be paid.

Transition Committee Lied on Report, Says Jang

Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah David Jang has described the report of the transition committee set up by the incumbent Governor of the state, Mr Simon Lalong, in which he was alleged to have left a debt of N222.3bn as untrue.

He insistied that he left debts and liabilities of N103.9b.Observing the new debt figure paraded by the committee as mischievously manufactured, a statement signed by Barrister Olivia Dazyem, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, said the comprehensive breakdown of the debt is well documented in the handover notes and leaves no one in doubt.

He therefore urged the committee to go back and study the handover notes properly.

Describing the committee’s report as “a clear distortion and manipulation of facts, aimed at personal vendetta, witch-hunt and smearing the good name and achievements of the outgone PDP government led by Dr. Jonah David Jang”, Dazyem said “a quick look at the compositions of the committees reveals that they were deliberately selected and made up of persons that have grudges with the immediate past administration.”

Paparazzi Warned To Stop Stalking Prince George And Princess Charlotte

Paparazzi photographers have been issued a strong warning from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to stop following their children.

An open letter from Kensington Palace has this morning revealed how Prince George and Princess Charlotte have come under increased surveillance from unauthorised snappers in recent months.

It said that several distressing incidents had put the young royals’ safety at serious risk.

One photographer went so far as to rent a tinted-window car in which he created a “hide” by hanging sheets.

Stocked with food and drinks, he then allegedly parked it in a discreet place by a children’s play area, where he remained for several hours hoping to snap images of the Prince.

He was rumbled by police, and found lying in the boot with his camera poised.

The letter from the Palace’s communications secretary said that long-range lenses had also been used to capture images of The Duchess playing with Prince George in private parks.

4 Colors You Should Avoid Wearing As A Wedding Guest

Let’s Start With the Obvious
Itching to wear a gorgeous white dress you just purchased? Put it back in your closet ASAP. While it may sound like the number one wedding-guest faux pas that everyone should know, some people forget it or ignore the rule and show up in a pearly white dress.

A Color Close to White
Off-white, beige, champagne, cream, or any other super light color that could be mistaken for white when the lights are dim and the people around you are toasting drink number three.

The Color the Bridesmaids Are Wearing
If you’re close with the bride, ask her for a heads up on what color the bridesmaid dresses are. That way, you won’t look like you’re trying to be a third-wheel to the wedding party by wearing a different style mint green dress than the other girls in the bridal party.

Glitter, Glitter, Glitter Everywhere
Save the sparkles for the bachelorette party or another Saturday night on the town. Avoid wearing anything too shimmering or distracting. All eyes should be on the bride and your disco ball looking dress may ruin her big moment to shine.

CNN Boss Apologizes To Kenya For “Hotbed Of Terror” Reference

CNN has apologized to Kenya over a recent terrorism slur.

In a televised CNN report preceding President Obama’s July trip to Kenya, the news network has referred to the East African country as a “hotbed of terror” while highlighting the possibility of an attack by Al-Shaabab militants during the President’s visit.

Kenyans were not amused by CNN’s labeling and immediately took to social media to hurl insults and sarcastic humor at CNN under the hashtag #SomeoneTellCNN, which ended up trending onTwitter TWTR -2.89% for a few days.

But the Kenyan government took a more serious approach towards reprimanding CNN. Two weeks ago, the Kenyan Tourism Board, a state agency whose mission is to drive and support the effective marketing of Kenya’s tourism products, said it was withdrawing advertising from the network in reaction to the “misrepresentation of the country’s status.”

President Buhari’s Administration Has Brought Change To Electricity – Ministry Of Power

The Muhammadu Buhari administration has promised Nigerians change and it seems that this change is already being witnessed in the country’s power sector.

The improvement in the electricity situation was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali during a meeting with Buhari on Wednesday, August 12, 2015.Mr Igali told the President that power generation in the country was 1,750 MW in 1999 and now peaked at 4,600 MW.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali

In May, just before Buhari assumed office, Igali said that power generation nationwide had dropped to 1,327MW, a situation which was worsened by the fuel crisis which was being witnessed at the time.

The President also pledged, during the meeting, to further improve electricity in the country adding that his administration had already identified the critical problems in Nigeria’s power sector and was taking appropriate actions to address them.

5 Signs You’re Not Ready to Get Married

1. You’re selfish

A healthy marriage requires give and take. If you’re still hung up on your own needs and desires and don’t have room for anyone else in your life — other than you, yourself, and then you again — you might be better off alone. Why should someone spend their life only catering to you?

“From all social and economic backgrounds, across gender lines and cultural and religious groups, whether young or old, the most common obstacle to realizing the wonderful potential of our relationships comes from selfishness and self-absorption, which are, after all, two terms for the same thing: the out-of-control ego,” said Ted Dawson in Selfishness and Self-Absorption: How to Stop it from Ruining Your Relationships.

2. You have an unresolved past

Emotional baggage must be unpacked. One piece of luggage that must be handled: your ex. If you’re still not over a past love, it’s time to slow down. Also, if you have any ongoing issues like drug or alcohol addiction, or unresolved emotional wounds, it is imperative that you get help for this before asking someone to spend their life with you. While it is possible to work through these issues as a couple, it will likely add tremendous stress to a new marriage.

“Relationships where one or both people are affected by unresolved issues often tend to spiral down, so it’s best not to wait until there is so much anger and resentment that your relationship can’t be salvaged,” said Licensed Clinical Social Worker Josephine Ferraro.

 3. You like playing the field

If you’re hesitant to throw out your “Single and Ready to Mingle” T-Shirt from college, that may be a sign you’re not ready for a permanent tan line on your ring finger. Also, if your digital black book is so full that it crashes your smartphone, this should tell you something. There’s nothing wrong with having a full and active dating life, just remain transparent with everyone you’re being full and active with. Pretending to be exclusive with someone while sowing your wild oats with several other people isn’t the way to go. Come clean so that you can enjoy your freedom without the guilt.

4. You’re hiding a secret

If you’ve got an army of skeletons in your closet, you have two options: either fess up or keep your skeletons locked down and don’t get married. Your little secret will eventually turn into a big one. The white lies you tell today, if quietly snuck into a marriage, could transform into a messy divorce down the road.

5. You have doubts

The doubts could be about your partner or about the relationship in general. Either way, trust is an essential component of any relationship. If you don’t trust your partner, it will be difficult to maintain a lasting union.

More Workers To Go In NNPC – GMD

The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu, said on Thursday that more purges were on the way as part of activities aimed at restructuring the company for better performance and accountability.
He said the restructuring would affect all levels of the corporation with the new group executive directors and group managing directors taking the exercise to the lower cadres.
Kachikwu spoke with State House correspondents shortly after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“Things have been done wrongly and things need to be done differently. We are doing a lot of work in terms of repositioning, restructuring, getting the right personnel in key places and setting a culture of accountability and service delivery so that the new NNPC that you are going to see will be a

different institution altogether,” he said.

When asked specifically how far the restructuring could go, the NNPC boss said it would be a complete exercise.
Kachikwu also said after the personnel aspect must have been done with, he would order for a proper forensic audit covering 2014 and 2015.
The exercise, he added, would show the true state of the company.
He expressed the conviction that the whole process would lead to a new look NNPC within five to six months.
He said, “The restructuring will be complete. I have done the first three layers, from the GEDs to the GGMs and general managers. You are going to have a lot more now. The GEDs and the GGMs will take it to the next layer, which is the lower layer.
“The whole idea is to go back to being able to look at your appraisals; and how well have you done in the job? If you have done very well, how do we elevate you to a position where you can offer more service? If you have not done well enough, we can retrain you and if you have not done well enough and there is no possibility of retraining you, we will let you go.
“The NNPC is not a public service. It is a corporation and we run like a company generating money for the people of Nigeria. And so, that whole concept of ‘anything goes’ should stop. And this is the first stage of that whole process.”
Kachikwu said he was pursuing what he called a three-pronged process in the restructuring of the corporation.
He said, “It is three-pronged process that I am pursuing. There is a people aspect, which we are dealing with now. There is a process aspect. And after placing the people at the right places, you are going to get a forensic audit done, that will be able to say to you, ‘this is the state of the company.’
“We are going to put processes and control in place. We are going to do retraining and repositioning and then, we are going to re-engage our majors and minors, all those who are active in the sector, for us to work as a team to take Nigeria forward. It is going to be the process stage.
“The final stage will be the business stage, which will be looking at all the existing contracts. Are they good? Are they okay? Do they need to be re-kitted and redone?
“We will look at the PSCs. What should we do, going forward? We will look at the challenges posed by reduced balance sheet as a result of $40 or $50 per barrel oil. What do we do to energise recovery and income growth so that government will have money to work with?
“It is a very intensive work; very calibrated work. A lot of us are not spending time sleeping but over the next five to six months, you will begin to see a new NNPC. A new process of oil administration in the country and obviously, giving fillip to Mr. President’s dream of taking the oil industry back to where it should be.”
When asked about his position on the President’s directive on the Treasury Single Account, Kachikwu said the directive was being considered.
He said he was looking at how to merge accountability with the need to ensure the survival of the industry.
“The reality is that to run an oil company, you’ve got to have funds. If you don’t, you will close down the corporation and the production system will close down. So, we are looking at how to merge the need for accountability and openness with the need to make sure that the industry itself survives. We cannot throw away the baby with the bathwater,” he said.

News Alert: Mourinho Plays Down Chelsea Medical Row

Jose Mourinho has responded to the criticism he has received for a row that developed between him and his medical staff in the 2-2 draw with Swansea.

He told reporters: “I don’t want to run away from it. I accept the question, and understand.

“First of all, I want to say I have a fantastic medical deptartment, with top doctor, more than a dozen professionals, a very good relationship with them and, as they tell me all the time, they were never praised so much as in last few years. I praise them lots of times. They don’t forget that, I don’t.

“We have disagreements during this period, we need disagreements to improve. We work together.

“Your question about the bench. For some people it’s important. For others, it’s not… It’s my decision.

“I have seven assistants, only four can go on bench. Seven kitmen, only two. Medical, only two on bench Dr Fearne and Dr Carneiro will not be on the bench, but doesn’t mean for rest of season.

“My decision [this weekend] does not mean they won’t be on the bench in the future.”

Adamawa Govt. Announces 200 Million Naira Budget To Engage ” Prayers Warriors” Against Boko Haram

The Adamawa State Government on Friday announced that it has earmarked N200 million to engage prayer warriors in seeking divine intervention towards ending the state’s lingering security challenges.

Chief of Staff of the state, Alhaji Abdurahman Jimeta, disclosed this in a media chat aired on the Adamawa State Television, which was monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria in Yola.

Jimeta explained that the money was sourced from the state and local governments joint account.

“We have earmarked N200 million for prayers to seek for Allah’s intervention in tackling the Boko Haram menace and other insecurity challenges threatening the stability of the state,” Jimeta said.

He said part of that money, which would be spent as security votes, would go into assisting local vigilance teams and security operatives.

On agriculture, he explained that the state government had ordered fertilisers worth over N3billion for the 2015 farming season.

He called for massive support toward the success of government efforts for a peaceful and stable Adamawa, adding that not much could be achieved in an atmosphere of chaos.

10 Things You Should Never Do If You Want To Succeed In Life (MUST READ)

The smartest thing any of us can do is to help other people succeed — because that way, we also succeed.

And that’s why you should never:

1. Thoughtlessly waste other peoples’ time.

Every time you’re late to an appointment or meeting, it says your time is more important.

Every time you wait until the grocery clerk finishes ringing you up to search for your debit card says you couldn’t care less if others have to wait unnecessarily.

Every time you take three minutes to fill your oversize water bottle while a line stacks up behind you says you’re in your own little world — and your world is the only world that matters.

Small, irritating things, but basically no big deal? Wrong. People who don’t notice the small ways they inconvenience others tend to be oblivious when they do it in a major way.

How you treat people when it doesn’t really matter — especially when you’re a leader — says everything about you. Act like the people around you have more urgent needs than yours and you will never go wrong — and you will definitely be liked.

2. Ignore people “beneath” your level.

There’s an older guy at the gym that easily weighs 350 pounds and understandably struggles on the aerobic and weight equipment. Hats off; he’s in there trying.

Yet nobody talks to him. Or even seems to notice him. It’s like he’s invisible. Why? He doesn’t fit in.

We all do it. When we visit a company, we talk to the people we’re supposed to talk to. When we attend a civic event, we talk to the people we’re supposed to talk to. We breeze right by the technicians and talk to the guy who booked us to speak, even though the techs are the ones who make us look and sound good onstage.

Here’s an easy rule of thumb: Nod whenever you make eye contact. Or smile. Or (gasp!) even say hi. Just act like people exist.

We’ll automatically like you for it — and remember you as someone who engages even when there’s nothing in it for you.

3. Ask for too much (especially too soon).

A guy you don’t know asks you for a favor, a big, time-consuming favor. You politely decline. He asks again. You decline again. Then he whips out the Need card. “But it’s really important to me. You have to. I really need [it].”

Maybe he does, in fact, really need whatever it is. But a person’s needs are his or her problem. The world doesn’t owe someone anything. No one is entitled to advice or mentoring or success. The only thing a person is entitled to is what he or she earns.

People tend to help people who first help themselves. People tend to help people who first help them. And people definitely befriend people who look out for other people first, because we all want more of those people in our lives.

4. Ignore people in genuine need.

At the same time, some people aren’t in a position to help themselves. They need a hand: a few dollars, some decent food, a warm coat.

Though I don’t necessarily believe in karma, I do believe good things always come back to you, in the form of feeling good about yourself.

And that’s reason enough to help people who find themselves on the downside of advantage.

5. Ask a question so you can talk.

You ask a guy at lunch, “Hey, do you think social media marketing is effective?”

“Well,” he answers, “I think under the right circumstances …”

“Wrong,” you interrupt. “I’ve never seen an ROI. I’ve never seen a bump in direct sales. Plus, ‘awareness’ is not a measurable or even an important goal…,” and you drone on while he desperately tries to escape.

Don’t shoehorn in your opinions under false pretenses. Only ask a question if you genuinely want to know the answer. And when you do speak again, ask a follow-up question that helps you better understand the other person’s point of view.

People like people who are genuinely interested in them — not in themselves.

6. Pull the “Do you know who I am?”

OK, so maybe they don’t take it to the Reese Witherspoon level, but many people whip out some form of the I’m Too Important for This card.

Maybe the line is too long. Or the service isn’t sufficiently “personal.” Or they aren’t shown their “deserved” level of respect.

Say you really are somebody. People always like you better when you don’t act like you know you’re somebody — or that you think it entitles you to different treatment.

7. Forget to dial it back.

An unusual personality is a lot of fun … until it isn’t. Yet when the going gets tough or a situation gets stressful, some people just can’t stop “expressing their individuality.”

Look. We know you’re funny. We know you’re quirky. We know you march to the beat of your own drum. Still, there’s a time to play and a time to be serious, a time to be irreverent and a time to conform, a time to challenge and a time to back off.

Knowing when the situation requires you to stop justifying your words or actions with an unspoken “Hey, that’s just me being me” can often be the difference between being likable and being an ass.

8. Mistake self-deprecation for permission.

You know how it’s OK when you make fun of certain things about yourself, but not for other people to make fun of you for those same things? Like a receding hairline. Weight. A struggling business or career. Your spouse and kids.

It’s OK when you poke a little gentle fun at yourself, but the last thing you want to hear are bald or money or “Do you want fries with that?” jokes. (Bottom line: I can say I’m fat. You can’t.)

Sometimes self-deprecation is genuine, but it’s often a mask for insecurity. Never assume people who make fun of themselves give you permission to poke the same fun at them.

Only tease when you know it will be taken in the right spirit. Otherwise, if you feel the need to be funny, make fun of yourself.

9. Humblebrag.

Humblebragging is a form of bragging that tries to cover the brag with a veneer of humility so you can brag without appearing to brag. (Key word is appearing, because it’s still easy to tell humblebraggers are quite tickled with themselves.)

For example, here’s a tweeted humblebrag from actor Stephen Fry: “Oh dear. Don’t know what to do at the airport. Huge crowd, but I’ll miss my plane if I stop and do photos … oh dear don’t want to disappoint.”

Your employees don’t want to hear how stressed you are about your upcoming TED Talk. They don’t want to hear how hard it is to maintain two homes. Before you brag — humbly or not, business or personal — think about your audience. A gal who is a size 14 doesn’t want to hear you complain that normally you’re a size 2, but you’re a size 4 in Prada because its sizes run small.

Or better yet, don’t brag. Just be proud of what you’ve accomplished. Let others brag for you; if you’ve done cool things, don’t worry–they will.

10. Push your opinions.

You know things. Cool things. Great things.

Awesome. But only share them in the right settings. If you’re a mentor, share away. If you’re a coach or a leader, share away. If you’re the guy who just started a paleo diet, don’t tell us all what to order.

Unless we ask. What’s right for you may not be right for others; shoot, it might not even turn out to be right for you.

Like most things in life, offering helpful advice is all about picking your spots — just like winning friends and influencing people.

I Was Right To Leave Liverpool For Barcelona, Admits Suarez

The former Reds striker left the club last summer and, after winning four major honours since his arrival at Camp Nou, he is sure that he made the correct choice to move to Spain

Luis Suarez says that winning the treble in his first season at Barcelona more than justified his decision to leave Liverpool last summer.

Suarez made the switch from Anfield to Camp Nou last August and was immediately rewarded with silverware as Barca swept the board last term.

Luis Enrique’s side added the Uefa Super Cup to their bulging trophy cabinet on Tuesday, meaning Suarez has now won four major honours in a little over 12 months at the club – a feat that convinced the Uruguayan a move away from Anfield was definitely the right option.

Speaking to Sport360, Suarez revealed: “It was the right decision [to sign for Barca].”

“Winning trophies was a part of my decision in joining Barcelona, but also as a family we knew it was the right decision even before I won a trophy.

“I am very happy at Barcelona – I am at the best club in the world.

“It couldn’t have gone better, to achieve what we did in my first season was a dream.”

And Suarez is eager to replicate last season’s success.

He added: “If you look at some of the players here they have won trophies season after season, and that is my aim now.

“We enjoyed our moment last season, but now it is about a new challenge.”

Ooni’s burial: VP’s protocol, organisers clash over allocation of table to Osinbajo, Aregbesola

There was confusion Friday morning at the Inter-Religious Farewell Service organized in honour of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, as the protocol officers of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and organisers of the event clashed over the allocation of tables to dignitaries.

The confusion took place at the make-shift hall where the ceremony is to take place.

A leader of the VP protocol team had picked a front table for Osinbajo but the organisers told him that the table was already designated for the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola and other officials in the state.

The refusal of the organisers to accede to the demands of the VP protocol officers led to a heated argument as Osinbajo’s advance team insisted on reserving the table for the Vice President.

However, the intervention of Ife elders and prominent palace figures saved the day as the table was eventually left for the governor.

A Neglected People: SOS To The Federal Scholarship Board From Nigerian Bilateral Students

On behalf of all federal scholars, I would like to bring to your and the public’s attention the current challenges facing students studying under the Nigerian Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) scholarship scheme with various countries, including Ukraine, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Cuba and particularly  Russia.

The BEA scholarship scheme is a good initiative that has existed for more than 30 years in various forms. It is sad that the same problem of non-payment of scholars’ stipends that beset this scheme 30 years ago still rears its ugly head today. For the past eight months, the Nigerian federal government has abandoned its scholars to fend for themselves in the Russian Federation. Over three hundred Nigerian federal government scholars studying in Russia have been left without pay and no means of sustenance for the past eight months. These students have not been paid a dime in the year 2015. This pitiable situation has been a recurrence over the past couple of years with scholars often owed arrears of up to nine months.

Pictures_from_a_peaceful_protest_at_the_Nigerian_embassy_last_August._Our_stipends_were_paid_two_days_after_the_protest[1]

This year, Nigerian government scholars have not been paid for eight months.  It is important to note that almost all of these scholars solely rely on the government stipends. Majority of these students are from humble backgrounds. They were awarded this scholarship based on their excellent academic achievements. Due to laws governing the rights of foreign students in the above listed countries, these students are not permitted to work and in cases where they can, culture and language barriers make it almost impossible for them to be find employment. As a result of the above factors, delays associated with the payment of stipends have led to a humanitarian crisis with several students unable to feed and pay their hostel fees, while students who graduated two months ago are unable to return to Nigeria.

Pictires[1]

Today, students on the program, with no rich family to help them, with no rich friends around to help them, wait and starve as they hope that someday, their stipends will be paid. Many students are defended their Bachelors and Masters’ theses without receiving a dime for their upkeep or feeding, or accommodation or research. Graduating students are at risk of overstaying their visa, as they do not have the necessary funds to buy tickets to go home after 7 years of study. In countries like Russia and Ukraine, this comes with a heavy penalty (imprisonment and deportation).

Despite these issues, these students continue to uphold the pride of the nation by refusing to engage in criminal activities to sustain themselves.  Just last week, a former recipient of this scholarship scheme, Dr. Dotun Olalusi, who graduated from The Russian  National Research Medical University, Moscow (RNRMU) in 2013 with a CGPA of 5.0, was honoured by the federal ministry of education and the federal scholarship board for his outstanding academic performance. The federal scholarship board and the federal ministry of education continually claim the glory of successes attained by beneficiaries of the scheme, yet these same students are left abandoned for months without any means of sustenance.  It is unfortunate that scholars, who have continued to excel in their academics in spite of their nation’s disregard for their welfare, have had to resort to begging in order to fend for themselves.

In addition, these patriotic citizens of Nigeria have been unwilling to engage in any form of demonstration at the Nigerian embassy in Moscow to press home their demands. The leadership of the students’ association (The Association of Nigerian Scholarship Students in Russia) has explored several diplomatic measures to end this injustice but all efforts have proved futile. You will recall that the students on the amnesty program had a violent demonstration at the Nigerian Embassy in Moscow two years ago. Their stipends were only delayed for a couple of days! Since that incident, their allowances get paid regularly without delays. However, the scholarship students are expected to be on their best behaviour and represent the nation in the best light even if they are unpaid for eight months. That is a baffling expectation. Must a student to starve to death or do something disgraceful before the right thing is done?

It is our hope that we will not have to undertake such extreme measures like those taken by the students on the amnesty program but if the federal government, the Federal Scholarship Board and the Nigerian embassy in Moscow fail to put an end to this injustice, we are willing to explore extreme measures to fight for our rights.

Paparazzi Issued Strong Warning To Stop Following Prince George And Princess Charlotte

Paparazzi photographers have been issued a strong warning from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – to stop following their children.

An open letter from Kensington Palace has this morning revealed how Prince George and Princess Charlotte have come under increased surveillance from unauthorised snappers in recent months.

It said that several distressing incidents had put the youngsters’ safety at serious risk. One photographer had rented a tinted-window car in which he created a “hide” by hanging sheets inside.image

Stocked with food and drinks, he then allegedly parked it in a discreet place by a children’s play area – where he remained for several hours hoping to snap images of the Prince.

He was rumbled by police – and found lying in the boot with his camera poised.

The letter, from the Palace’s communications secretary, said that long-range lenses had also been used to capture images of The Duchess playing with Prince George in private parks.

Photographers had also been monitoring his movements, taking pictures of the children of private individuals visiting The Duke and Duchess’s home and pursuing cars leaving family homes.

Some had also used other children to draw Prince George into view around playgrounds, and been found hiding on private property in fields and woodland locations around The Duke and Duchess’s home in Norfolk.

Kim K Advocates For #GunSafety #BackgroundChecks

But we love it even more when Kim Kardashian uses her fame, her followers and her platform to do more than just show off her boobs and her butt.

Like when she uses these attributes to make a political statement, such as Kardashian did on Wednesday night in the wake of a horrific tragedy.

After learning about the murders of Valernie Jackson and her children at the hands of ex-boyfriend David Conley, Kim went on a Twitter rant regarding the topic of gun control.

First, she gave some background:

“Have u heard of the heart breaking story about David Conley who slaughtered his ex girlfriend & her entire family! Her 6 kids, husband & her.”

Then, she put the killings into context:

“He purchased the gun & ammo ONLINE! How is it so easy to purchase guns online!!! Does this not sicken you? No background checks needed!!!!!”

Then, Kim reiterated the point for emphasis:

“These gun safety laws have to change! This poor woman was tied up & saw every child of hers & husband get executed over 10 hours!”

Finally, Kardashian expressed her sympathy and used some hashtags to call attention to something other than her huge breasts for a change:

“My thoughts & prayers go out to Valerie Jackson’s family and friends! #GunLawsHAVEtoChange #GunSafety #BackgroundChecksNecessary.”

Agree or disagree on this one issue with Kim, you must admit: It’s refreshing to see her take some kind of stance, isn’t it? Without getting paid for it?

Cameroon’s Military Deployed As Boko Haram Threat Rises

The central African nation of Cameroon is taking steps to guard against attacks from Boko Haram militants. The government has deployed troops to all major towns to search people, goods, businesses and even private homes. Now, Cameroonians of all ages are learning todeal with the increased security.

A soldier gives search orders at the main train station in Cameroon’s capitalYaounde. It is the first time railroad passengers have been asked to line upand pass through a metal detector. If no metal object is found, they are free tocontinue moving and get on their train.

Susan Ngam is a member of the armed forces. She says the governmentdeployed her and other soldiers to towns across the country after four BokoHaram suicide bombings last month.

Here we search everybody. We search the customers, we search the employers.”

Businessman Emmanuel Ngufor is travelling to northern Cameroon. He admits the increased security has led to delays. But he welcomes the effort.

“It is for our security. We can never tell judging from the looks of people. So it may be inconveniencing but in as much as we know that it is for our good, it is worth it.”

10 Most Hated Celebrities! Guess Who Made Number 1

The survey is informally dubbed “the most hated list,” but it’s actually a measure of who’s had the farthest fall from grace.

Basically, every major celeb is assigned a Q score based on their popularity. The celebs whose Q scores have dropped the most in the past two years have the dubious honor ending up on this list.

10. NeNe Leakes

NEW YORK, NY - MAY 15: NeNe Leakes attends the 2014 NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Upfronts at The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on May 15, 2014 in New York City. (Photo by Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images)

Looks like NeNe bailed on The Real Housewives of Atlanta at the right time. The former fan favorite has experienced a one point drop in her Q score since 2013.

9. Paula Deen

9

No surprise here. The revelation of Deen’s racist tendencies resulted in a 3 point drop in her Q score.

8. Miley Cyrus

8

Miley is a love her or hate her type of gal, and it seems this year, more Americans chose the latter option. The oft-naked Twerk Queen’s Q score dropped 4 points.

7. Judy Reyes

7

We don’t think anyone saw this one coming. Reyes is probably best known for her role as Carla on Scrubs, but she now stars in the Lifetime series Devious Maids. Do people just hate her character? Is the show considered too risque? We have no idea, but for some reason, Reyes’ Q score dropped a full 10 points.

6. Robert Griffin III

6

After a promising rookie season, the injury-plagued RG3 has been a mess on the field and in the locker room. His Q score dropped 11 points since 2013.

5. Adrian Peterson

5

Another no-brainer. Peterson was indicted last year for physically abusing his 4-year-old son. His Q score dropped 13 points as a result.

4. Robin Thicke

4

Remember when people couldn’t get enough of Robin Thicke? How times have changed. An ugly divorce and a lawsuit concering his signature song caused the former R&B favorite to drop a full 14 Q score points.

3. Dr. Mehmet Oz

3

Gaining the public’s trust only to try and sell them untested, unproven health products? Yeah, people don’t like that. Dr. Oz lost a 16 Q points since the last survey.

2. Ariana Grande

2

Is it the cat ears? The rumors of diva-like behavior? The infamous donut-licking incident? We’re not sure, but somehow, Ariana Grande dropped 26 Q points since 2013.

1. Bill Cosby

1

We don’t think we need to explain this one. The formerly beloved pudding pop pitchman has lost an astonishing 43 points since the last Q survey.

11 Year Old Raped & Impregnated By Step Father Gives Birth

An 11-year-old girl who was denied an abortion after being raped gave birth Thursday, the culmination of a case that put a spotlight on child rape in this poor South American nation and drew criticism from human rights groups.

Elizabeth Torales, a lawyer for the girl’s mother, told The Associated Press that the minor gave birth to a baby girl via cesarean in a Red Cross hospital in Asuncion, Paraguay’s capital. She said reported there were no complications and both the mother and baby were resting.

“The baby doesn’t yet have a name,” said Torales, who added that her client and the girl’s grandmother had requested custody of the infant.

Hospital director Mario Villalba told reporters outside the hospital that the birth took about 35 minutes. She said the girl would remain in the hospital for three or four days, “like any other patient who has had a cesarean.” She said the minor was currently accompanied by her grandmother, but declined to give more details.

The girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by her stepfather when she was 10. The stepfather has been arrested and is awaiting trial. The girl’s mother has been charged with negligence.

The mother requested an abortion for her daughter, but the government refused to allow it, drawing praise from religious groups but criticism from many human rights organizations, including U.N. officials. Paraguay bans abortion except when a mother’s life is in danger. At the time, the girl was five months pregnant and local health officials said she appeared to be in fine health.

The Kind Of Man You Should Marry

1. He makes you feel relaxed.
You don’t have to be “on” around him. You’re able to just be yourself. You’re comfortable crying in front of him, yelling in front him, and even having quiet moments. He’s seen the good, the bad, the hungover… and he still loves you.

2. He makes you happy.
He makes you smile more than you frown. When you’re with him, you’re really, really happy. He treats you like a queen and does everything he can to make you happy.

3. You’re attracted to him.
You find yourself beyond attracted to him. Sometimes you look at him and you think, “Daaaaamn.” He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but to you, he’s a god.

4. He’s loyal.
Your future husband should be loyal and 400 percent committed to you. He should only have eyes for you. You never have to worry about him being unfaithful, because he’s all yours.

5. He’s a good listener.
The man you marry should listen to you, and I mean really listen. He should pay attention to what you say. He lets you vent, regardless of the subject. A man who truly loves you cares about what you have to say.

6. He’s thoughtful and romantic.
A man who is thoughtful is a keeper. He should show you he’s considerate by doing things just to put a smile on your face. He knows it’s the little things that count. He does anything he can to make you feel special.

7. He’s sweet.
He’s kind and loving because he cares about you and your feelings. He’s affectionate because he can’t help himself. He’s sweet to you in private, and of course, in public, too. He can’t wait to kiss you each and every morning and night.

8. He appreciates you.
He tells you out of the blue that you look beautiful. He raves to his friends about you because he knows you’re special. He knows he’s lucky to have you in his life, and he never lets you forget it.

He spends time with your family and you’ve gotten to know his. He makes an effort to be present in your life and engages the people you love. He cares about your friends and wants them to like him. He fits into your life perfectly.

10. He’s willing to do anything for you.
He makes sacrifices for you because he knows it will make you happy. He plans things he knows you will enjoy. He’s willing to do anything for you, because he loves you.

The man you marry should make you feel grateful and oh so blessed.

Man Granted Divorce Over Wife’s Late Meals

A Nigerian court granted a 57-year-old man a divorce after hearing that his wife often brought his meals to him too late in the evening.

A court in Lagos heard that Olufade Adekoya was at the end of his tether after Olusola, his spouse of 25 years, refused to serve him when he demanded.

“My wife had failed in her matrimonial obligations. She does not prepare my food on time and I have warned her several times, but she would not listen to me,” he was quoted as saying.

“There is no point in harbouring a wife that makes me hungry. I am totally fed up,” Adekoya told the hearing, for which the paper gave no date.

His wife denied the alleged dereliction, accusing her husband of plotting to take another wife.

But court president Olu Adebiyi reportedly dissolved the unhappy union, concluding: “The court had tried several times to reconcile their differences, but all efforts proved abortive.”

Rihanna Joins ‘The Voice’ As Key Adviser For Season 9

It looks like NBC has got Rihanna’s money.

The network announced today that the superstar singer has joined Season 9 of The Voice.

With Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams all on board as coaches this fall, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt told reporters today at the TCA Press Tour in Beverly Hills that Rihanna will serve as a “key advisor” to them all.

It’s unclear what that means, but whatever. Rihanna will be a part of The Voice!

“This is one of music’s true supervisors coming on board to influence the lives and careers of the performers,” Greenblatt said.

Levine and Shelton, of course, have been with The Voice since it premiere in 2011.

Williams is going into his third season, while Stefani joined back in season seven… though she took season eight off and Christina Aguilera jumped in to a red chair in her place.

Couple Accused Of Planning To Join IS

A couple of Mississippi newlyweds are accused of trying to catch a flight to join the Islamic State group, say authorities.

Policeman’s daughter Jaelyn Delshaun Young, 20, and 22-year-old Muhammad Dakhlalla were detained at an airport in Columbus.

The couple, who wed in June, made their travel plans with undercover FBI agents on social media, officials say.

The US citizens allegedly planned to travel to Istanbul, using the ruse of a Turkish honeymoon, before making their way to Syria.

Young and Dakhlalla appeared before a court in Oxford, Mississippi, on Tuesday.

Denying bail, the judge said the defendants’ desire to commit terrorism is “probably still there”.

During online chats, Young allegedly praised the shooting at military sites in Chattanooga, Tennessee , which claimed the lives of five US servicemen.

“What makes me feel bette[r] after just watching the news is that an akhi [brother] carried out an attack against US marines in TN!” the former Mississippi State University chemistry major allegedly told an undercover FBI agent online on 17 July.

“Alhamdulillah [Thanks be to God], the numbers of supporters are growing.”

Dakhlalla said he wanted to use his computer science skills to help IS, but then planned to fight for the group, according to officials.

“I wish to be a mujahid akhi [holy warrior]. I am willing to fight,” Dakhlalla allegedly told an undercover agent.

“I want to be taught what it really means to have that heart in battle!”

But the couple appeared to know little about Sharia law, say officials.

The defendants were also sceptical of Western media reports that IS uses sex slaves.

Young and Dakhlalla are charged with attempting and conspiring to provide material support to a terrorist group.

They could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 (£160,000) if convicted.

People Who Bite Their Nails Aren’t Anxious – They’re Perfectionists

Most of us see nail-biting as evidence that a person is nervous and stressed-out – but tht might not be the case.

Instead, compulsive nail biters are perfectionists – and bite their nails when they’re bored or dissatisfied.

University of Montreal researcher Kieron O’Connor said, ‘We believe that individuals with these repetitive behaviours maybe perfectionistic, meaning that they are unable to relax and to perform task at a ‘normal’ pace.

‘They are therefore prone to frustration, impatience, and dissatisfaction when they do not reach their goals.

‘They also experience greater levels of boredom.’

University of Montreal researchers interviewed 48 people with repetitive behaviours such as nail-biting – and then exposed them to situations designed to provoke stress or boredom.

In the ‘boredom’ part, the volunteers were simply left alone in a room for five minutes – and researchers noticed they were more prone to nail-biting at that time.

Scavengers Rape, Rob Female Banker In Abuja

A female banker was raped and robbed at gun point by scavengers who sneaked into her car at Mabushi. The hoodlums also forced her into promising not to report the case to the police.
The scavengers, according to police sources laid wait for the woman along a popular shopping mall in Mabushi from where they forced her to drive the car with them to a dumping area where they molested, raped and robbed her.
“The woman parked her car opposite NEXT Park and Shop. When she came out, she noticed that her car was open. She thought she forgot to lock it, as she wanted to drive out, one of the criminals who was already hidden at the back seat pointed a locally made pistol at the back of her head while another brought out dagger and told her to drive,” the source said.
City News gathered that they forced her to drive to the dumping area in Mabushi where they carried
out their assault on her.
“The miscreants let her go after they made her promise that she will not report the incident to the police,” it said.
When our reporter visited the victim at a private hospital in Jabi, she said she reported the incident at Mabushi Police Station.
The embittered woman said her focus is to fully recover physically and mentally as the bruises on her face and laps were visibly fresh.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Ayobami Surajudeen, expressed shock over the incident and said that he just resumed duty as the new DPO in the area and that the first thing he has done after receiving series of complaints was invite the leaders of the scavengers operating there.
“The brief I got was that the scavengers are aggressive and what we have decided to do is to have our patrol vehicle stationed in the place 24 hours a day. They are the only people living in the area but there is this speculation that most of the items they have in the place are stolen and we will do everything within our resources to curb their activities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mabushi residents have expressed satisfaction with steps taken by the new divisional police officer deployed to the area.
They said they are in the right direction following increased cases of armed robbery in the community.
A resident, Charles Jimoh, said that the news is a welcome development as robbery attack incidents in the area have doubled over the last one month.

‘Let’s Not Drag My Mum Through The Mud’ – Khloé K Confronts Caitlyn Jenner

In a preview for next episode of Caitlyn Jenner’s ‘I Am Cait’ reality show, Khloe made her debut on the show and it wasn’t a pleasant one as she confronted her step dad/mum over comments she made about his ex and her mum, Kris Jenner.

“We haven’t really gotten a chance to talk since you sent me all those tough texts,” Caitlyn says while wearing a blue sweater

“Kim said that you said they were tough and Kim read all of them and she was like ‘these really weren’t that tough,'” Khloé told Caitlyn. “I just said ‘We don’t care what you’re doing.’ Meaning we don’t care if you want to transition. We want to support you and be there for you. But, we don’t think that that entails you speaking negatively about my mom. In our opinion, you don’t even need to mention my mom…let’s not drag my mom through the mud.”

ISIS WARNING: Horrifying Map Of Target Countries It Wants To Dominate In Europe By 2020

The chilling image highlights areas the brutal terror organisation plans to seize by 2020, including Spain, China and parts of North Africa.

According to the map, ISIS plan to take control of the Middle East, North Africa and parts of Europe, within the next five years, to complete its caliphate.

The caliphate – a state governed by Sharia law which ISIS plan to claim – covers areas from Spain in the west to China in the east.

Andalus is the Arabic name given to the parts of Spain, Portugal and france that were occupied by the Moors between the eighth and the 15th century.

1

The savage terror organisation has up to 50,000 members and nearly £2billion of cash and assets.

BBC reporter Andrew Hosken – who includes the map of the targeted areas in his new book – said ISIS wants “to take over all of what they see as the Islamic world.

He said: “Once they have their caliphate, they plan to turn against the rest of the world. They envisage the whole world being under their rule.

“They have 60 nations against them, including the United States and Russia, so one would think that is pretty unlikely.

“But one would have thought the first steps were unlikely as well.”

Amnesty Probe: Ex-MEND Leaders Support FG

Leaders of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) threw their weight behind the ongoing probe and verification exercise being conducted by the Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Implementation Committee, Brigadier General Paul Boroh (retd), into the numbers of former militants benefiting from the programme.

Led by Wilson Reuben a.k.a General Pastor Reuben, the former MEND leaders, said though some groups had expressed concern over the exercise, the probe would help sanitize and strengthen the programme and iron out issues of inclusion of those purportedly disarmed under the third phase of the programme.

The former militant leaders under the aegis of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative (LPCDI), in a statement signed by Reuben, expressed satisfaction over the ongoing probe and the verification exercise initiated by Boroh.

According to them, the verification exercise would determine genuine beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), particularly those that formed the third phase of the programme.

The statement read in part: “We the former agitators wish to let Brigadier General Paul Boroh to know that he has our full backing on this bold initiative and he should not be deterred in his mandate of implementing the PAP to its latter…”

Wendy Williams’ Show Should Be Canceled, Ariana Grande Fans Chant On Twitter

Don’t mess with Ariana Grande, or her fans will take to Twitter and demand your talk show get canceled. That’s what happened to television personality Wendy Williams Thursday, after she said that Grande looked like a 12-year-old girl on her nationally syndicated talk show, “The Wendy Williams Show.”

“She’ll forever look 12. I don’t mean that in a good way,” Williams said on Thursday’s show. The TV host talked about Grande’s height, mentioning she’s 4 feet 11 inches tall, and then added: “I don’t look at her as a woman.” In reality, the “Problem” singer is 22.

http://twitter.com/thelovebecca/status/631985035353157632/photo/1

Fans began to trend the hashtag #CancelWendyWilliams,

http://twitter.com/falltrilogy/status/631971688675168256/photo/1

Some fans accused Williams, 51, of body shaming.

Many fans simply disagreed with Williams.

It’s not the first time Grande has found herself in a controversy, though most recently she was on the other side of the criticism. Over Fourth of July weekend, the pint-sized diva was caught licking a doughnut she didn’t pay for and then laughing. She also said, “I hate America,” on her native country’s birthday.

The star issued a statement that seemed like a non-apology after she said she was just upset about childhood obesity. After even more criticism, she followed up with a more authentic apology.

“Seeing a video of yourself behaving poorly, that you have no idea was taken, is such a rude awakening that you don’t know what to do — I was so disgusted with myself,” she said July 11. “Not here to make any excuses or justify my behavior, because I can’t…I’m just here to apologize.

David Mark To Testify At Election Tribunal

Former Senate President David Mark is set to give evidence in a case challenging his declaration as winner of the Benue South Senatorial election, as an election tribunal sitting in Makurdi adjourns.

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal on Thursday fixed the date of Senator Mark’s appearance as August 18, for his cross-examination in the case brought by Daniel Onjeh of the APC.

Mark’s only opponent in the election, Onjeh had alleged that the results were marred by electoral malpractices and significant breaches of the Electoral Act 2011 as amended. He further asserted that INEC officials were compromised in the process, and voters were subject to financial inducements by PDP agents at various polling units in the district.

Fashola defends N78m website, slams CACOL

A former Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has defended the decision of his government to spend N78.3m on the upgrade of his website, www.tundefashola.com.

Fashola had come under fire after the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency posted a report on its website stating that N78.3m was paid to a firm, Info Access Plus Limited, for the upgrade of his website through the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

However, Fashola, in a five-page letter he personally signed, admitted that the money was actually spent on his website.

He, however, said the breakdown of the transaction was left out and that that was the cause of the confusion.

He said, “As far as the website contract is concerned, yes there was a contract. It went through procurement and was approved by the government agency authorised to do so. One of the services was an upgrade quoted for N12.5m but awarded for N12m.

“There were other services that were new like a hand over countdown clock, mobile Apps for Google, for IOS and Ipad, for Microsoft and for Research in Motion (Blackberry), which the existing website did not have, as well as the annual maintenance cost for managing the website.

“It was for all these services that the contract was issued for N78m, which the Lagos State Procurement Agency gave no objection based on the advice of the Ministry of Science and Technology, who are the government’s adviser on ICT matters.

“In publishing this contract award which was the government tradition under my watch, the procurement agency’s website summarised it as ‘upgrade’ only without detailing the other services and this has been distorted by the agents of hate and their suspected smoking gun.”

He, however, said the contract was published in a way as to misinform members of the public.

“It is regrettable that a summary of the contract has been deliberately distorted to misinform the public,” he said.

He said the website helped him to do his job effectively when he was governor. He said till date there have been over 27 million hits on the site while thousands of videos and pictures had been uploaded on the site.

The former governor hinted of an alleged plot by some to smear his name. He said for instance, there were allegations of having extra-marital affairs and having children outside marriage.

He said the allegations were baseless. He said the only children he had outside marriage were the two children he adopted after their parents were killed in the 2012 Dana plane crash.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who is rumoured to be in a cold war with the National Leader of the All progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said he had no hand in the June 9 National Assembly elections in which the leadership of the APC lost out.

He said he was outside the country until the morning of the election.

“As far as my alleged involvement in the National Assembly elections are concerned, they remain only the products of imagination of those who made the allegations. I was out of the country at the material time and returned only in the early hours of that morning to Abuja and from there proceeded to Lagos,” he said.

Fashola, while reacting to recent bashings by the Peoples Democratic Party over the over N419bn debt he left behind, noted that all the loans taken by the state were approved by the House of Assembly.

He said the debts were being serviced, adding that the debt profile of the state had not affected it negatively.

Fashola also berated human rights group, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, for dragging him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and for calling on President Muhammadu Buhari not to give him a political appointment.

He said he did not care if he was given a political appointment or not as he had served Lagos State for over 12 years

He told the people of Lagos to expect more allegations soon as he had been told that several people had been given money to assassinate his character.

He said, “I expect that there may be more distorted allegations without evidence for reasons that remain in the realm of speculation because I have been informed reliably that large amounts of money are being paid to some of these agents to bear false witness.

“I cannot conclude without responding to the crusade of CACOL and their ilk seeking my prosecution on allegations that have no proof and writing pre-emptive letters to the Presidency.

“In case they are unaware, I am not looking for a job. I expect them to know that allegations of wrongdoing are not resolved without evidence, neither are they resolved in press conferences.”

While taking an indirect swipe at those leaking information about his deeds in office, the former governor said, “For those who still wish to remain in the mud, they should look in the mirror. For those who wish to throw mud at me, they should look at their own hands.”

SE, SS Group Warns Buhari Against Alienation Of Zones

The South-East South-South Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) which claimed to be “engaged in promoting good governance and rapid, sustainable and inclusive development” in the two geo-political zones of the country, has expressed concern about allegations that the new All Progressive Congress (APC) Federal Government, may be out to “alienate” the zones from general development in Nigeria.

In a letter addressed to Buhari and signed by its president, Emeka Ugwu-Oju and Secretary, Dagogo Karibi-Whyte, the group, which described the two zones as “major enablers of the Nigerian economy”, highlighted some recent events that fuelled its fears that the areas may indeed be on the road to alienation.

In the letter dated July 29, 2015, the SESSPN drew the attention of President Buhari to some “extant issues” which included the speech of the President during a visit to the United States of America, alleged lopsidedness in key appointments by the Federal Government and the threats against Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s emergence as the Deputy Senate President.

The letter, which was copied to many political leaders of the two zones across political divides, however expressed the readiness of the people of the zones to work with the rest of the country to achieve the change dream that the APC government desires.

How I Spent N78 Million On Website, Mobile Apps, Others- Fashola

The immediate past governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, has finally responded to the allegation that he approved a contract worth N78 million for the upgrade of his personal website.

Last weekend, analytic firm, BudgIT, revealed that Mr. Fashola approved, before he left office, a contract of N78.3 million from the state treasury for an upgrade of his personal website.

The news caused outrage among Nigerians who accused the former governor of financial recklessness and the misappropriation of public fund.

In a statement he personally signed on Thursday, Mr. Fashola admitted that indeed a contract valued at that amount was awarded, but it involves the provision of other services beyond the upgrade of the website.

Mr. Fashola’s statement comes on the heels of the denial by the contractor, Info Access Plus, that it received N78 million. The company said though it quoted N12.5 million for the upgrade of the website, www.fashola.com, it only received N10 million from the state government.

On Thursday, the former governor said only N12 million was actually awarded for the upgrade of the site while other services such as the handover countdown clock, mobile apps for Google, for iOS ipad, for Microsoft, and Blackberry and the annual maintenance cost for managing the site make up the total of N78 million.

He said due process was followed before the contract was awarded and that the procurement agency, PPA, did not raise any objection as at the time the contract was awarded.

“It was for these services that the contract was issued for N78 million, which the Lagos State procurement agency gave a No Objection based on the advice of the Ministry of Science and Technology, who are the government adviser on ICT matters.

“In publishing the contract award which was the government tradition under my watch, the procurement agency ‘s website summarized it as ‘upgrade’ only without detailing the other services and this has been distorted by the agents of hate as their suspected ‘smoking gun’”, he said.

Strategies For Restructuring NNPC Revealed By New Boss

The Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, has given a hint on the three-pronged strategy for the restructuring of the state-run oil firm, adding that this would entail the reorganisation of management personnel, a forensic audit of the firm’s accounts, and a review of its contracts with oil majors and other industry operators.

Kachikwu, who spoke to State House correspondents in Abuja after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, also said more workers might be relieved of their jobs.

Kachikwu said the restructuring going on at the NNPC would be from “A to Z”, meaning from top to the bottom.

“It is an A to Z restructuring. I have done the first three layers, which had to do with the GEDs (Group Executive Directors) and Group General Managers. We are going to have a lot more now – the DGMs (Deputy General Managers) and GMs (General Managers) – as this would take us to the next layer, which is the lower layer.

“The whole idea is to go back to being able to look at the appraisals, how well they have done on the job and if they have done very well, how do we elevate them to positions where they can offer more service.

“If they have not done well enough, and we can retrain them, we will, but if they have not done well enough and there is no possibility of retraining, we will let them go.

“At the end of the day, NNPC isn’t a public service, it is a corporation and it is going to be run like a company, generating money and profit for Nigerians, so that the whole concept of anything goes is going to stop and this is the first stage in that whole process,” he said.

He said his approach to restructuring NNPC was based on a three-pronged process, explaining that there was the people aspect, which is being handled now by “getting the right people in the right places”.

On the second pronged strategy, he said: “We are going to get a forensic audit done so that we know clearly, not the (limited) one done by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), but a proper forensic audit that will cover us all the way to 2014, 2015, and we will be able to say to you this is the state of the corporation and the economy.

“We are going to put processes and controls in place; we are going to do retraining and repositioning and then we are going to engage our (oil) majors and minors, all those who are active in the sector for us to work as a team trying to take Nigeria forward.

“The final stage will be the business stage, looking at all the existing contracts — are they good? Are they ok? Do they need to be redone? Look at the PSCs
(Production Sharing Contracts) and what do we do going forward? Look at the challenges posed by the reducing balancing sheet as a result of $50 or $40 per barrel for dark oil.

“What do we do to energise recovery and the income growth so that the government will have money to work with?

“It is a very intensive and calibrated work. A lot of us are not spending time sleeping, but over the next five to six months you will begin to see a new emergence in the NNPC, a new process of oil administration in the country and obviously giving fillip to Mr. President’s dream of taking the oil industry back to where it should be.”

He explained that a lot of things had been mishandled in the past and that things needed to be corrected.

He said his team was doing a lot of work on repositioning, restrategising and getting the right personnel in key places, and setting a culture for accountability and service delivery.

“I think that the new NNPC that you are going to see going forward will be a different institution all together,” he said.

When asked what would happen to the money in NNPC’s numerous accounts in view of the federal government’s directive that all ministries and agencies should operate a Treasure Single Account (TSA) with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), he said: “All that is being looked at because to run an oil company you need a lot of funds to do so.

“If you don’t, you will close down the corporation and the production system will close down. So we are looking at having merged the need for accountability and openness with the need to make sure that the industry also survives, you cannot throw away the baby with the bath water.”

Also, in furtherance of its reorganisation, NNPC yesterday released the names of 15 new GGMs who were promoted this week to run its subsidiaries and business units.

A statement by the corporation’s spokesman Ohi Alegbe said this followed the recent sack and retirement of key top officials of the corporation in a reorganisation exercise that kicked in with the appointment of Kachikwu as its new GMD.

NNPC said that its reorganisation into a lean, efficient and business-focused organisation commenced with the management’s approval of the retirement of 38 senior managers on Tuesday.

Dr Dre Owns Up To Beating Women In The Past

Dr Dre’s baby mama singer Michel’le has been very open about the physical abuse she suffered from Dr Dre for years and it is widely known that the multi-millionaire music mogul and businessman beat the crap out of journalist Dee Barnes for an interview she did with Ice Cube after he left N.W.A.

On the eve of biopic Straight Outta Compton opening night, Dr. Dre opened up about his vicious attack on the two women. Below is what he told Rolling Stone Magazine:

“I made some f**king horrible mistakes in my life. I was young, f**king stupid. I would say all the allegations aren’t true – some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really f**ked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and
there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.”

Senate to probe power sector under Obasanjo, Jonathan

The Senate on Thursday set up a 13-member Ad-Hoc Committee to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the management of funds so far appropriated for the power sector since 1999.

The Committee, headed by Senator Abubakar Kyari, was also given the task of probing the unbundling of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria by the Federal Government.

The Upper Chamber took the decision while passing a motion sponsored by the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, seeking the immediate reconnection of some parts of Borno State back to the national grid in view of the challenges the blackout was posing to his constituents.

The Senate urged the Federal Government to complete the Mambilla Power Project with the aim of improving electricity supply in the country.

It also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Transmission Company of Nigeria to immediately reconnect Maiduguri to the national grid.

It also directed the committee to conclude its investigations and report to the Senate within two weeks.

The senators, while contributing to the debate, also condemned the inability of the TCN to provide uninterrupted power supply to all parts of the country.

Ndume had expressed concern that Nigeria, with a population of over 150 million, produced only 4,600 megawatts, while South Africa with a population of about 40 million people produced 40,000 megawatts.

He observed that the disconnection of Maiduguri , the Borno State capital, from the national grid, as well as the degeneration of power supply across the country had affected the economy negatively.

Ndume also expressed concern that with an installed power generation potential of about 5,000 megawatts, the output distributed currently was about 1,950 megawatts.

He added that it was disheartening to note that Iran with over 77 million people “generates about 42,000 megawatts, while South Korea with over 49 million people generates about 60,000 megawatts of electricity.”

Ndume, who said that Maiduguri and its environs had been completely disconnected since the emergence of insurgency, complained that the situation had grounded economic activities in the state.

He said, “I buy diesel to run my generator and that costs me N10, 000 per day. No country can be said to be near development when there is no power.

“This Senate needs to investigate this to give the government support. For some years now, a lot of money has been spent but there is nothing to show for it.”

Senator Danjuma Goje in his contribution said that the motion was apt in view of the untold suffering that lack of power supply had caused Nigerians.

Senator Godswill Akpabio lamented that many companies had shut down operation due to irregular power supply in the country.

He lamented that in spite of the financial contribution by some states in the South to improve power supply, Nigerians were still grappling with lack of electricity supply.

He said, “In 2015, we are celebrating 4,000 megawatts, for me this is worrisome. We cannot have employment without power and Nigerians are complaining about the high cost and some localities which have not seen light for months are asked to pay high tariff.”

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, noted that the inadequate power supply in the country was a cause for concern, saying it had affected the economic growth of the nation.

He observed that the lack of power supply had plunged the country into further hardship, besides corruption.

He said, “We thought that with the Power Reform Act and the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, we will begin to see improvement with regard to power supply; unfortunately, it is not so.

“The Ad Hoc Committee that we set up should look at the activities of the Discos and what is preventing Nigerians from benefitting from the unbundling of the PHCN.”

US owes Cuba millions – Fidel Castro

Former Cuban President Fidel Castro on Wednesday said the United States owes Cuba millions of dollars due to the economic damages it has caused the island through its 55-year-old trade embargo.

“Cuba is owed compensation equivalent to damages, which total many millions,” he said in an open letter published on CubaDebate, a government-run news website.

The former Cuban leader made the statement on the eve of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s visit to Havana, where U.S. officials on Friday are expected to hoist the U.S. flag over its recently opened embassy — a largely symbolic event marking the normalization of relations between the two countries.

Cuban officials have recently stated that the U.S. embargo against the Castro regime has cost the island $117 billion, contributing to chronic shortages and a lack of investment on the island.

The five-time world champions will meet Costa Rica at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ, on September 5 before travelling to the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, for a clash with USA on September 9.

The double-header will be Brazil’s final two fixtures before the starOctober sees them kick off their qualification campaign for the World Cup in 2018 with games against Chile and Venezuela.

Lawal Sharafadeen: On a More Serious Note, Is Northern Nigeria not part of Nigeria?

Northern Nigeria seems to be an autonomous division within Nigeria.  A zone sitting geographically on 719,435 Square Kilometers of land – which is about 79% of Nigeria’s landmass and has about 392 numbers of ethnic groups (North West 54 North Central 123 North East 205) and almost 75 million or 53.6% of Nigeria’s population is no doubt the biggest zone in Nigeria.

So far the zone has gone through several forms of ups and downs which is presently posing a big treat to its optimal capacity and overall survival.

Several studies carried out to seek an understanding of the numerous challenges ravaging the zone ranging from high illiteracy level which stands at 70% to housing  the largest number of handicaps in the country. Child immunization acceptance against dangerous childhood diseases is still around 10% and then the worse of all; the Boko Haram insurgency.

The Boko Haram insurgency might indeed be termed to be political in its design but the fact that it is being hosted in the North is a big treat. Questions coming to mind is, why will the people of the North allow the Boko Haram infest so deep within their habitat? This is simply the result of high illiteracy level in the North. The North is thought to be religious but are recent happenings not pointing to an opposite direction?  It is really shocking that this same region is the one that has produced wonderful Nigerian leaders in the past like Sir Tafa Balewa, Umaru Dikko, Shehu Shagari, Sadauna and many more, so what actually went wrong?

Looking deep into the current situation in the North,  a careful observer will see a degradation and fallout  which can be attributed to gross negligence of some sort by prominent statesman.

Other regions also play host to some civil unrest such as the Ife and Modakeke, Offa and Erin-Ile battle and Okene unrest to mention a few, but the point of interest in these civil unrest is that all prominent persons such as traditional rulers and politicians whose region were affected usually start a cleanup program so that such events are never to be witnessed ever again in the future, they don’t leave things in the hands of faith and pure negligence unlike many of their Northern counterparts.

Series of war in time past had broken out in the Northern part of Nigeria, I am sure we will remember;

-The  Kaduna riots of February 2000, where thousands died due to religious riots between Christians and Muslims over the introduction of sharia law in Kaduna State.

-Yelwa massacre of February – May 2004, Yelwa, Shendam and Kano where 975 were reported dead due to religiously motivated killings between Christians and Muslims.

2013 Baga massacre of 19-20 April 2013, Baga, Borno and a total of 228 were killed, although the identity of the perpetrators remains unclear; some blame the Nigerian military while others blame the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram.

Kaje civil unrest and many other more, but after all these civil unrests, there has never been an orientation program or rehabilitation for the victims and the participants, a young boy who saw killings of tens of people in his presence grows up to become a wild animal and worst of it is if he actually participated in the killing.

We shouldn’t have been here if these Northern youths had not been exposed to a wild life right from the beginning  of their lives, a visit to the North will amaze one’s sense of what responsible parenting means. One will see a pack of boys in their early teens popularly called ‘almanjiri’ savaging around just to stay alive. They wander through life without any close understanding of what “good life” really means or entails.

Who do we hold responsible for the sorrowful and meaningless life these kids are subjected to? An average young boy of age 14 from the North would most likely have visited about 20 states in the country by following truck loads of goods without any real life expectancy.

August 12, 2015 was the World Youth Day and I ask, “Is there anything worth celebrating for the Northern youth? Is it the unproductive life they have inherited or the uninspiring environment they now live in?

The move by the Senate President Bukola Saraki in identifying with the people of the North by his recent visit to the zone and the call on international community to help rebuild the North is a step in the right direction which all stakeholders must take a cue from.

The North needs massive infrastructural development but most importantly mental rehabilitation to guide against another brutal sect in the future. We must be ready to capture the traumatized youths and re-orientate them.  The negligence of the past is exactly what led to the situation we are in right now.

Why has the North been so marginalized and relegated to the background in terms of mental capacity building? There is another area the government must look into, this has to do with making sure that Northern youths are trained to understand the beauty in staying alive and being purposeful and productive.

Sadly the North that had once been the economic hub of this great nation is now being ravaged by war, poverty, illiteracy, diseases, high infant mortality. If the current happenings are not adequately managed to capture the victims, the North might just be a breeding place for a more sophisticated killing machine. I beg to ask why shouldn’t the kids from the North be equipped  to compete with kids from the South, East and West?

PIN Writes President Buhari Over Akpabio, Amaechi, Uduaghan and Governor Dickson’s Spying Activities On Private Citizens

PIN has written a 2-page letter to Nigeria’s President Buhari to protest the violation of human rights of private citizens as well asabuse of power by some Governors in Nigeria. The letter is based on earlier work on the subject of Internet Freedom by PIN, and follows an investigative report published by Premium Times, where incumbent Governor Dickson of Bayelsa State , ex-Governor Amaechi (Rivers State), ex-Governor Akpabio (Akwa Ibom State) who is also the current Minority leader in the Nigeria’s Senate, and ex-Governor Uduaghan (Delta State)  were said to have engaged in illegal surveillance and hacking activities which involves them breaking into target computers and phones to monitor citizen’s private and confidential conversations on communication devices.

The letter was to demand that President Buhari use his good office to protect the rights of citizens by Investigating and bringing to Justice every one found culpable in these illegal activities.
Copied in the said letter were;  the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker house of representative, Chief Justice of the Federation, Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Justice,  National Security Adviser,  National Human Rights Commission,  Femi Falana Chambers, Nigeria Bar Association, United Nations Human Rights Commission, Freedom House International, Department of State Security Services, United Nations Secretary General, and Amnesty International.  According to the Premium Times report which quoted sources from the National Security Adviser’s office and some of the governments under investigation, the illegal practice of intercepted calls and hacked phones and computers gave these public servants backdoor access  to many people’s private lives, at the expense of taxpayers they swore to serve. Right to privacy is a constitutionally guaranteed right of every Nigerian citizen.

As part of Paradigm Initiative Nigeria’s  Internet Freedom Advocacy efforts, PIN raised an alarm when it was reported in the media that the  Nigerian government under president Goodluck Jonathan invested massively in surveillance equipment as reflected in 2013 and 2014 National Budget. PIN published two Policy Briefs on May 29,2013 and November 29, 2013, to identify the underlying issues and raise public awareness on the implications of these activities. In addition to this, a Freedom of Information request was made to demand  contract details of purchased surveillance equipment as listed in the country’s national budget for 2013 and 2014. The request was denied, following which PIN approached the Court in order to pursue justice.

The constitution is the supreme law in Nigeria and it does provide for freedom of speech, association, rights to privacy, etc. of every citizen. National Security has become a ready excuse for Government to acquire sophisticated technology with capability to monitor and spy private citizens’ online activities or conversations such as email, phone calls and all forms of text/chat messages. The concerns of abuse PIN has consistently raised has once again been confirmed by the Premium times report. PIN has been unequivocal in her demand for protection of online rights of citizens even in the face of security challenges Nigeria currently faces. PIN’s position is that any form of interception, even those for the purpose of security, requires judicial oversight and legislative processes must come first. PIN is currently leading an effort with the NetRightsNG coalition for Nigeria’s Digital Rights and Freedom law to ensure that Citizensrights as established in the 1999 constitution of Nigeria are guaranteed online.

Bill Cosby: New Accusers Share Most Disturbing Stories Yet

Yesterday, attorney Gloria Allred hosted a press conference at which three new Bill Cosby accusers came forward to share the shocking tales of abuse they suffered at the hands of the formerly beloved TV icon.

By now, Cosby’s M.O. is well established:

He slipped drugs in the drinks of women who were excited to meet an A-list celebrity, raped them, then either fled the scene before they regained consciousness, or stuck around to inform them that no one would believe them if they went to the police.

Linda Ridgeway Whitedeer, Colleen Hughes and Eden Tirl are the latest to add their names to the ever-growing list of Cosby’s alleged victims.

Hopefully, their stories will be enough to convince ardent Cosby supporters like Whoopi Goldberg that the man is most likely a monster.

Hughes says she met Cosby when she was working as a flight attendant in the 1970s.

Tom Cruise Sees Daughter For First Time In Two Years

According to Ok! Magazine, Tom set up the reunion, meeting Suri at an apartment near Central Park that belongs to someone in his management team.

He likely chose this location because going to his Katie Holme’s place would not only be weird, but would start a media and paparazzi frenzy.

Their day included a game of hide-and-seek and stories.  Tom even reportedly gave Suri a huge teddy bear.

A source said, “Suri was so excited. “It was emotional for both of them. [Tom] was overcome seeing Suri again. He knows he could miss seeing her grow up if he’s not careful.”

Many believe that Tom has kept his distance from Suri because of Katie’s negative stance about Scientology.  Could he be putting his weird Scientology days behind him to make more time for his daughter???

Tom has been so deeply devoted to Scientology that it is hard to believe he would leave the church.

Why We Cut Down Management Staff- New NNPC Boss

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, on Thursday explained said it downsized its workforce by pruning the top management staff from 122 to 83 in order to save cost.

The new Group Managing Director, Emmanuel Kachikwu, had announced that the corporation’s operational directorates had been cut down from eight to four, with new Group Executive Directors (GEDs) appointed to take charge, while 38 others were asked to proceed on their retirements.

The former eight directorates included Exploration & Production; Refineries & Petrochemical; Engineering and Technical; Gas & Power; Commercial & Investment; Corporate Services; Finance & Accounts, and Business Development.

Under the new arrangement, the four new directorates headed by Group Executive Directors (GEDs) include Exploration & Production, led by Maikanti Baru; Finance & Services (Isiaka Abdulrazaq); Refining & Technology (Dennis Ajulu), and Commercial & Investment (Babatunde Adeniran).

Mr. Kachikwu had explained that the reduction in the number of the corporation’s management staff was in line with the Federal Government’s aspiration to transform it into a lean, efficient, business-focused, transparent and accountable national oil company, NOC, in keeping with international best practices.

Pope Urged To Condemn Gay Unions As Unnatural

Nearly half a million Catholics have signed a petition urging Pope Francis to condemn same sex unions as unnatural and rule out allowing divorced believers who remarry to receive communion, organizers claim.

The Filial Appeal on the Future of the Family, launched by a group describing itself as an alliance of lay Catholics and pro-Life organisations, has also secured the backing of more than 100 senior clerics, including many bishops from the developing world and American cardinal Raymond Burke, an arch-conservative who has been sidelined within the Vatican hierarchy since Francis was elected two years ago.

According to the Appeal’s website, more than 462,700 people had, by Thursday, signed the petition, which urges Francis to uphold traditional teaching ahead of an October synod which will review how the Church relates to gay and divorced followers.

The petition claims that a first synod held last year had caused, “widespread confusion arising from the possibility that a breach has been opened within the Church that would accept adultery — by permitting divorced and then civilly remarried Catholics to receive Holy Communion — and would virtually accept even homosexual unions when such practices are categorically condemned as being contrary to divine and natural law.”

Kylie Jenner And Tyga To Take Romance Public On Reality TV

She just wants to make sure she gets her cut, and that the two go public on her reality show, not Tyga’s solo project. You can’t make this stuff up.

“Kylie and Tyga are deciding on where and when to officially confirm that they are actually together,” a Kardashian insider tells Radar this week.

If the 25-year-old rapper had his way? “Tyga wants to do it on his show Kingin’ With Tyga because the ratings are not so great,” says the source.

Definitely not. Who even knew that was a real show?

But “Kris has other ideas in mind,” obviously,” and wants to confirm the relationship by making it an entire episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians.”

Senate: Akpabio Opposes Application to Tender INEC’s Atlas of Constituency

Eight days after he tendered the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the disputed Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district election results, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Amadu Attai on Wednesday  appeared before the Hon Justice Goddy Anunihu led Akwa Ibom State National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting at the Customary Court,  Dutsen Alhaji , Abuja to conclude his testimony at the tribunal as a witness in the ongoing trial of the disputed March 28, 2015 National Assembly election.

Dr Attai who on last Tuesday tendered the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the final result of the Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district election as was allegedly issued by the 2nd respondent (INEC) sought the leave of the court to tender the Atlas of Constituency of the three senatorial districts in the state as produced by INEC  and relied upon for nomination and election into the senatorial seat. This was opposed by Akpabio , INEC and the PDP .

Counsel to Akpabio, Paul Usoro (SAN) objected to the document being tendered, insisting that the full document and not an extract of it ought to have been tendered. He also argued that the witness is not the maker of the document.

Counsel to 2nd respondent, S. N. Mbaezue also objected to it saying the whole document should have been tendered to properly guide the tribunal on how the delineation was done.

Also speaking, counsel to the 3rd respondent,  Adekunle Adesanya (SAN) said Section 71 of the 1999 constitution (as amended) does not talk about an extract of a document but the whole document. He asserted that it will be unsafe for the tribunal to rely on the document as issued. The trio prayed the tribunal to discountenance the document sought to be tendered to the tribunal through the state party chairman.

Responding, counsel to the petitioner, Chief Assam Assam (SAN) told the tribunal that “admissibility is a point of law. To object, the objection must be based on law. None of the respondents counsels referred to any law backing their opposition to the admissibility of the document “, he submitted.

He referred the tribunal to Section 104 of the Evidence Act and told the tribunal that the witness applied for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the disputed document and was duly issued by the 2nd respondent (INEC).

He told the tribunal that all the respondents counsels agreed the extract was part of a document produced by INEC in line with Section 71 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).  None of them disputed that fact, he said. He relied on Section 83 (1)a Sub 2 of the Evidence Act and submitted that the document in question is the only document relevant to the election to the Senate in Akwa Ibom state.
“Relevance is the fulcrum for admissibility. It’s funny that the 3rd respondents counsel will say that it will be unsafe to rely on a document issued by the 2nd respondent  (INEC) and signed by the Acting Head of Legal Department of the electoral Commission. INEC who issued the document never intended to misguide the court. Besides, the document in question was front loaded since April 18th,2015  and due notice given to all the parties. INEC for once never denied the existence of the document”, he submitted.

He prayed the court to discountenance the submission of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd respondents and admit the document because according to him, “what constitutes a senatorial district in Akwa Ibom state is an issue in this trial and the delineation of constituencies under the constitution is relevant and admissible and I don’t see why they are running away from it”, he declared.

On the claim by counsel to the 3rd respondent that the senatorial districts in the state is not an issue in contention ,Chief Assam told the tribunal that it is indeed an issue as paragraph 12 of the petition pleaded that the Constituency the 1st respondent was nominated to contest election in Akwa Ibom state is different from the Constituency in question in this trial. “This is a document that forms part of this election, why are they not objecting, “, he asked. “You don’t plead documents, you plead facts”, he submitted. A position the tribunal agreed with.

The tribunal went on break and reconvened at about 1.55pm.

Ruling on the matter, Chairman of the tribunal, Hon Justice Goddy Anunihu said the three basic facts is that a document sought to be tendered must be pleaded, relevant and admissible. He declared that though the 3 page document is a Certified True Copy of the Nigerian Atlas of Electoral Constituency, a Publication of the Independent National Electoral Commission, with page 24 showing a map of the three senatorial districts and page 25 showing the Local Government Areas and number of Registered Voters therein, with date of certification, the disputed document has not met the relevance criteria as stipulated by law. As it only states the senatorial districts and not candidates nominated for the constituencies thus the document stands rejected.

The chairman was then cross examined by counsel to the 1st respondent, Paul Usoro who sought to know the relevant disciplines he got his degrees. He told the tribunal he had his first degree in Philosophy, second degree in Public Administration and a PHD in Political Science.  Counsel to 2nd and 3rd respondents declined to cross examine the witness after Usoro was done with cross examination.

Also testifying, a former Commissioner for Health and Works in the state, Dr Udoma Ekarika while responding to a question of why he left the PDP by counsel to 3rd respondent said, he left the party because of the high level of impunity that characterized the party which were not in consonance with the founding ideals of it’s founding father’s. A total of 16 witnesses have testified against Akpabio. The case was adjourned to Thursday, August 13, 2015 for continuation of trial.

Black Box Of Crashed Bristow Helicopter Still Missing- NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday said it was still searching for the Black Box of the ill-fated chopper that plunged into the Lagos Lagoon on Wednesday.

Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, the South-West Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the agency, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Farinloye said that the agency’s rescue team was still on the lookout for the black box of the ill-fated Bristow Helicopter.

NAN reports that the black box is a piece of equipment on an aircraft that records what happens on a flight and can be used to discover the cause of accidents.

He , however, confirmed that the agency had recovered the two remaining bodies of the victims, which brought the total number of the dead bodies recovered to six, with six survivors.

Farinloye who said that the bodies were recovered from the Lagoon at 10.55a.m., attributed it to the joint efforts of the agency’s rescue team and the canoe operators.

“We have to employ the services of local canoe operators who know the terrain.

“About 40 canoe operators were deployed to the scene of the incident and we succeeded in recovering the two remaining bodies at about 10:55 a.m,” he said.

Tambuwal Urges Nigerian Govt To End Rice Import Waiver

The current waiver regime enjoyed by rice importers is hampering local production of the commodity and should be phased out by the Nigerian government, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has stated.

Mr. Tambuwal gave the advice when he received the new Customs Area Controller for Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, Muhammad Kabir.
The governor said preliminary studies undertaken showed that despite efforts to boost local rice production, unfavourable government policies such as rice import waivers were the impediments to objectives of achieving local self-sufficiency.

The position taken by the Sokoto governor is similar to the one taken by the Nigerian Senate recently on the same matter.

Mr. Tambuwal also said that the quality of rice produced locally is of international standard and far better than many imported into the country. He said his administration would continue to support farmers in rice production to enable them acquire standard facilities that will process their produce.
“We have the potential to meet Africa’s rice needs,” he added.

Neymar Deserves Uefa Award Over Ronaldo – Luis Enrique

The Barcelona boss argued that the top three places in the Best Player in Europe gong should go to his all-star forward line and talked up the threat posed by Supercopa rivals Athletico madrid

Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique believes that Neymar was more deserving of a place in the top three of the Uefa Best Player in Europe award than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The governing body announced on Wednesday that the Real Madrid star would be on the podium alongside Barca stars Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

However, the former Celta Vigo boss believes the Brazilian forward would have been a better choice than the Portuguese attacker, following his exploits in Barca’s treble-winning campaign.

“Who decided that Neymar isn’t one of the candidates for the Uefa trophy?” he asked at a press conference.

“I think it should be Neymar, Messi and Suarez, without a doubt.”

Luis Enrique went on to say that he feels his side are the team to beat in Spain and in Europe as he prepares for the first leg of their Supercopa tie against Athletic Bilbao on Friday.

“The pre-season schedule was set up so we can be the best we can be,” he said. “We have to be competitive from the start of the season and still be the team to beat. I would also say the same in Europe.

“The sextuple is a goal we have in mind and one that motivates us but we are focused on is winning the fifth title first – the sixth is still far away.”

Luis Enrique is expecting a tough game against Athletic and feels the Basques could try to man-mark Lionel Messi.

“Both teams know each other well, it [man-marking Messi] may be an option, but there are others,” said the former Camp Nou midfielder.

“They press very well and always make things difficult for their opponents. It will be an uncomfortable match and it will only be resolved over the two games.”

@Allsocks_: The Differences between Pantyhose, Tights and Leggings

Recently some folks were arguing over the difference between stockings, leggings, tights and pantyhose after we discussed the ways to prevent pantyhose from tearing online during the #Allsocks Class. If you missed that you can catch up here.

IMG_8435

To discuss the peculiarities between these undergarments, it is important to note that though pantyhose can be very nice, they can be quite uncomfortable and very unpractical when worn during extremely humid and hot weather.  During such weather, they trap moisture against your skin apart from causing you to sweat which could lead to discomfort. If you are keen on wearing pantyhose during warm weather, it is advisable to choose ultra-sheer, non-control top hose, since they give the most airflow all day. Pantyhose can be very transparent that it might seem as though a lady is bare skin. That’s a major quality of pantyhose.

Female legs

Female legs

Pantyhose are mostly worn by professional women under dresses and skirts to offices. But of course they can be worn as casuals as well. Pantyhose are made in various colours but thin black see through is the most common.

untitled-11

Another difference with pantyhose is that it tends to present a more elegant and polished look from tights or even leggings. Pantyhose always provide close fitting covering the body from feet up to the waist. This close fitting ensures that pantyhose is unable to provide convenience of easy removal most especially when answering the call of nature. Pantyhose always come in different styles such as fishnet, patterns, colours and opacity.

stocking

Stockings are usually made from cotton, linen, wool, nylon or silk, while pantyhose are made from delicate nylon fabric. Stocking generally refers to any leg garments, including socks and thigh. Stockings come in two, as a pair, while pantyhose come in one piece. That’s a striking difference between pantyhose and stockings.

tights-2

Tights are a little transparent and thicker than pantyhose. Tights tend to be mistaken for pantyhose because they almost have the same feel, though they are actually different. Tights are not leggings. They are different in the sense that tights are not designed to be worn alone without a top. They must be worn under a dress.

jeggings

Leggings extend from waist to ankles; and are made from lycra, nylon, cotton, wool, silk, cotton-polyester blend and other synthetic fabrics.

Court Refuses To Reinstate Mimiko’s Sacked Deputy

A Federal High Court in Lagos has struck out a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by a  former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, to challenge his impeachment.

Justice Mohammed Idris, in a judgment on Thursday, held that Olanusi’s suit was an abuse of court processes, noting that the reliefs being sought were same as those in an earlier suit marked Ak/51/2015 still pending before an Ondo State High Court in Akure.

“The issues of the fundamental rights of the applicant were raised in that suit as in this suit. This cannot be allowed.

“The institution of the first action between the main parties or even similar parties on same subject matter simultaneously when the previous suit has not been disposed off constitutes an abuse of court processes.

“I therefore hold that this suit is filed in abuse of court processes in the light of suit numbered AK/51/2015,” Idris held.

The judge also held that he had no jurisdiction to entertain the suit and went on to fault the joining of the Inspector General of Police as a defendant, who, he said, played no role in Olanusi’s impeachment.

Idris upheld the submission by the Attorney General of Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), who represented the first respondent in the suit, that “it is clear that the applicant merely joined the Inspector General of Police as a subterfuge to justify bringing this application before this court in an obvious situation of lack of jurisdiction.

“Making the Inspector General of Police as a respondent against all grains cannot salvage the situation.”

Idris, however, rejected Jegede’s argument that Olanusi filed his suit in breach of Order X Rule 1 of the fundamental rights enforcement procedure 2009.

Olanusi, who was impeached on April 27, 2015, had sued the IG and the chairman of the  seven-man investigative panel which found him guilty of impeachable offences, Mr. Olatunji Adeniyan.

In his suit, which was transferred from the Akure Division of the Federal High Court to the Lagos Division, so that it could be urgently heard, Olanusi contended that the Adeniyan-led panel breached his fundamental right to fair hearing.

His lawyer, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje, claimed that “the sitting, conclusion of proceedings and submission of report by the panel within one day” denied Olanusi his right to fair hearing as enshrined in Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution.

Olanusi claimed that the impeachment panel did not give him adequate time and facility to defend himself against the allegations of misconduct which he was found guilty of.

He also alleged that the Adeniyan-led panel failed to personally serve him with the notice of the allegation of misconduct before proceeding into hearing and  reaching its verdict.

He therefore sought an order quashing the proceedings and the report of the Adeniyan-led seven-man impeachment panel which recommended him for impeachment.

He also sought an order nullifying his removal as the Ondo State Deputy Governor by the state House of Assembly on April 27, 2015.

But Adeniyan, through the Attorney General of Ondo State, Jegede,  filed a notice of preliminary objection, urging the court to discountenance Olanusi and strike out his suit.

Jegede, who described Olanusi’s suit as an abuse of court processes, said the ex-deputy governor goofed by approaching the court through a fundamental right enforcement application to challenge his impeachment

Okori to Tribunal: How Election Materials Were Hijacked #AkwaIbom

The Hon Justice Goddy Anunihu led Akwa Ibom State National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting at the Customary Court,  Dutsen Alhaji , Abuja on Thursday received testimony from the petitioner,  Chief Inibehe Okori on how election materials meant for the senatorial election were hijacked.

Giving testimony during cross examination, Okori told the tribunal that in his presence, the entire election materials for his unit were hijacked by PDP thugs, wondering how election results could then be announced as emanating from a process where no ballot paper and other election materials were available to voters in the unit.

Asked if the Card Reader was still supposed to be used in manual accreditation, Chief Okori told the tribunal that the usage of the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and the Card Reader was to aid in identifying the ownership of the PVC as well as in fingerprint authentication, stating that only when the fingerprint authentication fails that the law allows the process to be reversed to manual accreditation. He declared that even when the authentication fails and incidence form is to be filled, it is the voter who should fill the incidence form.

Asked if he had agents for the election, he answered in the affirmative stating that as the senatorial candidate of the APC, he had agents in all the polling units in the senatorial district who were his ears and eyes at the election.

Chief Okori’s testimony brings to 17, the number of witnesses that have so far testified against the 1st respondent, Godswill Akpabio. The case was adjourned to Wednesday, August 19 for the petitioners to conclude their evidence after which Senator Akpabio will have nine days to present his 63 witnesses in his defence.

Alhassan Ismail Mustapha: “Freedom Is Not Free”

Freedom is not free, is a popular idiom in the United States of America; used in expressing gratitude to the military. Well in my case it is just a reminder, just like the verse in the national anthem that says:” the labor of our heroes past shall never be in vain”.

While on an excursion in 2013, to one of the pervasive family museums that laid along the desolated Slave Coast in Badagry. Our tour guide a gentleman in his early forties who was a representative from the Nigerian Commission for Museums and Monuments explained a lot to us, far from all the theories we were thought in the classroom, he showed us numerous artifacts and various objects of historical relevance; affirming the truth of some of the things we were thought in class. From the diminutive cell rooms where our ancestors were held captives, before exportation via the sea into slavery to burial sites we voyaged into history.

I was flabbergasted at the mystery of how our ancestors could sell themselves in exchange for mirrors and ceramic plates. What however compelled me most was the story of a young lad, who sold his wife and four kids into slavery for a bottle of gin. Yes one bottle of cheap alcohol and his family was forever held in bondage. I continued to look at the empty bottle in disbelief.

slaves[1]

Back on the bus, I began researching about slave trade; its antecedents, logistics and inner workings. What surprised me most was the manner people got enslaved. The movie 12 years a slave might paint a picture, but believe me; it is far worse than that. The conspiracies, greed, cheating all were big blows to everything I understood about humanity before now. This quickly took my mind to a scene in the movie blood diamonds where another lad sold diamonds in exchange for satellite television. Yes cable TV

Ethnologist might want to justify the actions of such people, and quickly blame it on their socio economic situation claiming that it lead them to such actions, we loudly condemn today, they would say if we were in their shoes we might have done same if not worse argue, well i agree and that’s the essence of this piece.

The African continent was bled of its human resources via all possible routes, and the negative effects of slavery from the loss of manpower, to the collapse of local industries, to the imminent destruction of African cultures and values till date cannot be overemphasized. What slavery has done is doing and would still do remain a tragedy for analysts and commentators to squabble upon.

Fast forward into today, more than a century after the abolishment of slavery following the emancipation proclamation by president Abraham Lincoln, questions are raised from the enslavement of the Africans and one very pertinent to me remains what are we selling today? For slavery is in different forms and wears different faces.

Our continent is the world’s second-largest and second-most-populous continent, yet it is the most underdeveloped with enormous problems ranging from extreme poverty, hunger, maternal, depreciating health, lack of education, rising rate of H.I.V/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.

slaves2[1]

The failure of our continent to provide an enabling environment for her people is hurting us, and would eventually do us more harm than good. From science and technology, health care, architecture, agriculture you name it in any industry like our ancestors we again have become incredible innovators, but for whom?

Take athletics as an example every winner of the 100m since the inaugural event of the world athletics championship in 1983 has been black, similarly African-Americans make up 65 percent of the N.F.L. and 80 percent of the N.B.A. the world’s top sprinters and marathoners nearly all trace their ancestry to Africa. And we also well aware of long distance races have become an east African monopoly. This entirely have not necessary meant that Africa has in any way developed in track and field or sports in general; rather we know where all the laurels are headed.

In agriculture, although cocoa is largely produced in developing countries in Africa, it is mostly consumed in industrialized countries. Europe consumed 42.7% of production in 2007, followed by the Americas (23.7%), while Africa consumed only 14.3% of production in 2007. With the later continent especially in its west been responsible for over 80% of the production

Cocoa prices hit a 23 year record high on the international market in 2008, the price of cocoa hit $2,581.6 per ton in January 2009. According to the Reuters/Jefferies commodity research bureau (crb) index, cocoa rose by 31% in 2008, making the largest gain among 19 traded raw materials.

According to copal (cocoa producer’s alliance), the total area under cultivation worldwide in 2007 was 7,415,081 hectares with production standing at 4,043,784 metric tons. Out of this, Africa cultivated 4,738,232 hectares, while producing 2,614,749 metric tons

In admiration of the west, many would rather have us “copy” their modus operandi which is alien to us and our people; little wonder why a majority of the policies and action plans have minimal effects till date.

in the same vain many have lauded foreign aid as an alternative in solving our problems  but i align my thinking with DAMBISA MOYO in his article why foreign aid is hurting Africa where he assets that ”overwhelmingly evidence demonstrates that aid to Africa has made the poor poorer, and the growth slower. The insidious aid culture has left African countries more debt-laden, more inflation-prone, more vulnerable to the vagaries of the currency markets and more unattractive to higher-quality investment. Even after the very aggressive debt-relief campaigns in the 1990s, African countries still pay close to $20 billion in debt repayments per annum, a stark reminder that aid is not free. In order to keep the system going, debt is repaid at the expense of African education and health care. Well-meaning calls to cancel debt mean little when the cancellation is met with the fresh infusion of aid, and the vicious cycle starts up once again. Aid is an unmitigated political, economic and humanitarian disaster.”

He also adds that “over the past 60 years at least $1 trillion of development-related aid has been transferred from rich countries to Africa. Yet real per-capita income today is lower than it was in the 1970s, and more than 50% of the population over 350 million people  live on less than a dollar a day, a figure that has nearly doubled in two decades”

Former President Obasanjo earlier this year in a paper presented at the Ethiopian Academy of Science in honour of Professor Ali Mazrui, bemoaned the dwindling clan of African scientists saying that “sadly today, the place of eminence of the African scientist on the global horizon is fast regressing. In a fast-changing world, we are getting far left behind. Our contribution to the science, technology and engineering scholarly literature is the least of all regions of the world.

“Our universities are at the bottom of global league tables of world-class universities with the region having the least number of Nobel Prize winners in science. Even, a good number of our local problems are being solved by scientists from outside our region.

“Yet, we have some of the best intellectually-endowed scientists in the world. The laboratories in Asia, Europe and North America, where breakthroughs are achieved to drive our fast-changing world, are populated in part by brain-drained African scientists, You will recall that some of the well-known contributions of ancient African science include one of the first intensive agricultural schemes; metallurgy, including the mining and smelting of copper, practiced in Africa as far back as 4000 B.c”

Over 65% of sub-Saharan Africa’s population is under the age of 24 with little or no economic prospects, how can you expect development? But of course just recently the Gabonese government was rumored to have paid Barcelona’s Lionel Messi 2.5m to visit the country to take part in a ceremony at one of the venues for the 2017 Africa cup of nations. Imagine what such resources would have done to the continuous environmental and water problems faced by the country.

He who pays the piper calls the tune: we must wake up; for slavery exists In an entirely different manner!
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds!

The statement said 12 persons were believed to be on board.

Another crash involving Bristow Helicopters also occurred on July 14, 2011 in Port Harcourt.

Senate Approves $75m World Bank Loan For Edo State

The Senate on Thursday approved a 75 million World Bank loan for Edo state’s Development Policy Operation (DPO) as requested by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The approval followed the consideration of a single-prayer report of the ad hoc Committee on Local and Foreign Debt presented by Sen. Kabiru Gaya (APC Kano South).

The committee in its report urged the Senate to approve the loan, stating that the World Bank had already considered the state ready for it.

Sen. Adamu Aliero (APC Kebbi Central), in his contributions, said that Edo State had qualified for this loan, because the state had met the conditions set by the World Bank.

Aliero said that the loan would help increase the internally generated revenue of the state and, therefore, urged the Senate to approve it.

He also called on other states that have the capacity to borrow, to go ahead and take such loans, as long as they could utilize such judiciously.

The Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, while supporting the motion for the approval of the loan, encouraged other states with genuine needs to take advantage of such low interest loans, rather than the patronising commercial banks.

“The first tranche of this borrowing plan had already been approved by the senate and the World Bank has strict borrowing conditions– which the state has met.

“I therefore move that we approve this loan,” he said.

Nothing To Show For Economic Growth- Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday lamented that the much celebrated growth recorded in Nigeria’s economy had not improved the lives of Nigerians, particularly the youths who constitute the majority of the country’s population.

The resultant effect of this, he said, was that young Nigerians move from rural to urban areas and from the country to other countries across borders in search of greener pastures.

The president, who made this observation at the commemoration ceremony of the 2015 International Youth Day held in the old banquet hall of the presidential villa, Abuja, assured, however, that his government would place high premium in tackling challenges confronting the youth population.

Buhari said, “It is, however, an issue of serious concern that in Nigeria, so far, economic growth has not translated into commensurate and improved social outcomes, especially for our 60 million young people who make up the majority of the population.

“Consequently, our youth migrate from rural to urban areas and from this country to other countries across borders in search of greener pastures.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen and my beloved youth, I want to assure you that the new administration will place high premium in tackling challenges facing the youth sector.”

Luis Enrique: Pedro’s Future In His Own Hands

The attacker seems destined to continue his career at Manchester United, but the Barcelona coach has insisted the final decision is all his

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has stressed Pedro‘s future is in his own hands as Manchester United remain keen to sign the forward.

Pedro, 28, handed in a transfer request on Tuesday, mere hours before scoring the extra-time winner in Barca’s thrilling 5-4 European Supercup success over Sevilla.

United have already reached an agreement with Barcelona over a transfer fee and now it’s up to the Spain international whether he indeed wants to move to Old Trafford.

“We’ve heard his opinions, it’s a difficult decision that he has to make but we’ll wait and see what he decides,” Luis Enrique said at a press conference.

“He wants to leave because he’s not getting minutes but we want to give him minutes so it’s a difficult situation. I certainly want him to stay.

“I’m looking forward to the end of the transfer market so I’ll know exactly what I do have.

“I don’t want to get drawn into controversies, we all understand Pedro’s situation, he’s always someone the Barca fans will love because of his personality and his performances on the pitch.”

Pedro started Tuesday’s win over Sevilla on the bench, but Luis Enrique has suggested he could return to the starting XI for the Supercopa de Espana game against Athletic Bilbao.

“I haven’t announced my squad and I don’t base my squad around what’s happening in the transfer market. He’s available so he can play.

“He didn’t train for a couple of days because of thigh trouble but I know he’s in a difficult situation.

“He seems the same as ever. He’s always a very hard worker and we know he’s in a particular situation but there’s no change since the start of pre-season.”

US jails Nigeria’s ‘Ayatollah Mustapha’ for 22 years for aiding Al-Qaeda

A Nigerian accused of receiving weapons training from al Qaeda’s Yemeni affiliate and writing rap lyrics, among other contributions, for the group’s English-language media operations was sentenced on Wednesday to 22 years in United States prison, authorities said.

Lawal Babafemi, 35, also known as Ayatollah Mustapha, was sentenced by US District Judge John Gleeson in Brooklyn after pleading guilty in April 2014 to providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

Prosecutors had sought up to 30 years in prison for Babafemi, who was extradited from Nigeria in 2013 after being arrested several times two years earlier on local terrorism charges.

Babafemi’s court-appointed lawyer in Brooklyn was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday afternoon.

Prosecutors said that from January 2010 to August 2011, Babafemi traveled from Nigeria to Yemen twice to meet with leaders of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, known as AQAP.

During his time with that group, Babafemi, who went by the name “Ayatollah Mustapha,” worked on AQAP’s media operations, including its magazine “Inspire,” prosecutors said.

He and two other individuals including a Vietnamese man named Minh Quang Pham contributed writing and editing, prosecutors said, and Babafemi became close with Samir Khan, a US citizen who was Inspire’s editor.

Together, the men appeared in the magazine in a photograph, wearing camouflage and holding rifles, authorities say.

After Khan and Pham had the idea of recording rap songs as AQAP propaganda, Babafemi began writing lyrics about jihad, prosecutors said.

The group’s leadership, including Anwar al-Awlaki, paid Babafemi almost $9,000 to recruit English speakers from Nigeria, prosecutors said.

Khan and Awlaki, a US citizen born in New Mexico, were killed in US drone strikes in Yemen in 2011. Pham was extradited to the United States in March and is awaiting trial.

Woman, 92, Booted From Church Over Unpaid Tithes

According to WALB, Josephine King, 92, recently received a letter informing her that she has been removed from the membership roster at the First African Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Georgia.

“Josephine King is no longer considered a member of the First African Baptist Church of Bainbridge, Georgia,” read Gerald Simmons, King’s nephew.

The letter, which was signed by FABC Senior Pastor Derrick Mike, claimed that King “has shown non-support” to the ministry in the areas of “constant and consistent financial and physical participation.”

King, who served as a member of the congregation for more than 50 years, was naturally shocked by the letter of removal. According to Simmons, his aunt had been dealing with health complications and was considered sick and shut-in, which explains her lack of attendance. He also shared that during her 50-year membership with the church, she has gone above and beyond to show her support.

David Oyelowo, The Next James Bond?

David Oyelowo is next up to play James Bond… after snaring the role in a forthcoming audiobook.

The star of ‘Selma’, in which he played Martin Luther King Jr, was personally invited to take on the part by the estate of Ian Fleming, the creator of 007.

Though it’s a rumour that has oft baffled its subject, it appears he’s now beaten Idris Elba to the accolade.

Elba had long been rumoured as a possible replacement once Daniel Craig relinquishes the role of Bond, but had frequently denied any supposed meetings with Bond studio Eon.

“I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech,” said Oyelowo of his appointment.

“I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special.”

Speaking about the previous talk of Elba taking up the role, he said: “A titan on screen, he has all the qualities that you’d want in a James Bond. Because films and TV affect culture, a black Bond would be a cultural event. A statement… beyond just entertainment.”

Pres. Buhari’s Speech To Young Nigerians To Mark International Youth Day

It is a great pleasure for me to address you this morning at this important occasion as we join other nations across the world to commemorate the 2015 International Youth Day. I am aware that it is in line with the United Nations Resolution 54/120 (19th Dec. 1999) to observe 12th August of every year as a day to celebrate and appreciate the contribution of the youth to their various communities. The appointment of an Envoy on Youth by the United Nations Secretary General is a clear indication of the attention youth issues are accorded around the world.

2.?The International Youth Day, therefore, constitutes part of the United Nation’s broader World Programme of Action for Youth. This is a laudable initiative targeted at promoting the general wellbeing and livelihood of young people with its priority focus on education, employment, poverty and hunger, drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, inter-generational issues amongst others. This year’s theme tagged youth “Civic Engagement” is very apt. We strongly believe that the engagement and participation of young people is necessary in order to accelerate economic growth and sustainable development.

3.?As we commemorate this year’s International Youth Day, let me use this moment to once again pay tribute to all the young people who played significant roles in making the 2015 General Elections a model for democratic governance in Africa. The role you played, individually and collectively, in not only being peaceful members of the electorate but also galvanising the social media platform and mobilizing your peers to make the right choice. Your role contributed in no small measure to having a credible election in an atmosphere that was hitherto tense and volatile. The outcome is today being celebrated worldwide. Your role is greatly appreciated.

4.?I can assure you, my young compatriots, that you have written your names in history and you will be remembered as true heroes of our democracy and as architects of change.

5.?Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, you may wish to note that Africa is the most ‘youthful’ continent in the world. According to the figures I have been presented with, at least 20 percent of the continent’s population of 1.2 billion is between the age bracket of 15 – 24 years, with about 42% below 15 years of age. As the rest of the world gets older, Africa is getting younger. This is neither a good thing nor a bad thing. It all depends on what we make of it.

Therefore, one of the greatest challenges facing governments and policy makers in Africa today is how to provide opportunities and meet the needs of young people, the vast majority of whom need to be empowered to enable them to lead decent lives and contribute their quota to the socio economic and political development of their countries.

6.?Correctly harnessed, this tremendous labour force could propel us to take a quantum leap in developing our infrastructure so that Nigeria can join the 21st Century.

7.?Some of you may recall that African leaders, at the Malabo 2011Summit, committed themselves to providing employment, whether directly or indirectly, for at least 3% of its unemployed young people every year. For us, the meeting in Malabo 2011, marked another turning point in the continent’s quest for development. The summit adopted that all member States should advance the youth agenda and adopt policies and mechanisms towards the creation of safe, decent and competitive employment opportunities. This would be achieved by accelerating the implementation of the Youth Decade Plan of Action (2009 – 2018) and the Ouagadougou 2004 Plan of Action on Employment Promotion and Poverty Alleviation. African leaders have since stepped up efforts to give voice, visibility and platforms to the youth to advocate for more investments in their future.

8.?It is, however, an issue of serious concern that in Nigeria, so far, economic growth has not translated into commensurate and improved social outcomes, especially for our 60 million young people who made up the majority of the population. Consequently our youth migrate from rural to urban areas and from this country to other countries across borders, in search of greener pastures.

9.?Distinguished ladies and gentlemen and my beloved youth, I want to assure you that the new Administration will place high premium in tackling challenges facing the youth sector.

10.?According to the National Bureau of Statistics, unemployment remains a major concern in Nigeria, with rates rising from 6.4% in 2006 to 24.20% in the first quarter of 2015. The unemployment rate among youth is even more disturbing and considered to be over 50% due to the sheer number of unemployed graduates and a huge number of youth who have had no chance to go to school roaming about the streets.

11.?It is worth noting that although educational attainment by Nigerian young people has increased significantly in the last decade, the relevance of curricula, quality of education and the fit with skills required by the job market, still remains a challenge for us as a country.

Unsuitable qualifications limit our young peoples’ employment prospects and potential to contribute to national development. Our new Administration is poised to providing an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive so as to ensure greater opportunities for jobs to be created for our young people.

12.?This we believe will assist in reducing criminal activities and terrorism. We have resolved to provide adequate infrastructure and strengthen our job creation institutions in order to increase opportunities for our young people. For Nigeria to sustainably create jobs and ensure growth, we will pay special attention to the growth of our Small and Medium Scale Enterprises. This can be achieved through boosting the intervention funds as guaranteed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

13.?In order to ensure that young people are healthy, skilled and educationally empowered, we will strengthen our academic and vocational training institutions as well as significantly improve our healthcare delivery system.

14.?Young Nigerians, let me conclude by reiterating that we are very much committed to fulfilling all our campaign promises. We, therefore, seek your cooperation and patience in this regard. Be assured that “change” for us is not a mere political slogan but the beginning of a new era desired by the majority of Nigerians. The youth must therefore be vanguards of this change and at the same time be the change that they wish to see. To this end and knowing that sustainable development cannot take place in the absence of peace, we must all work together towards the actualization of sustainable peace and harmony to enable this administration to build an enduring legacy. It is on this note that I wish the Nigerian youth happy 2015 International Youth Day celebration.

15.?Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

I thank you all.

Signs You Are Dating A Mama’s Boy

HIS THOUGHTS WERE HER THOUGHTS FIRST

A major part of adulthood is being able to think for yourself. If your man has a problem with this, you’re in trouble. When his thoughts are always derived from how his mama feels, you’re not dating him, you’re dating his mom. A man who is always doing what his mother says can torpedo a relationship real fast. What if she ends up not liking you? Do you think he will stay with you, or rather, leave because of her influence? Also, if his mama tells him every move to make, it can condition him to be a lazy thinker so you may end up being the voice of reason for everything in her absence. Sounds exhausting, doesn’t it?

HE STILL STAYS WITH MAMA

Listen, this one should be a no-brainer, but if it still hasn’t clicked for you, allow me to break it down. He’s a grown man who doesn’t have his own address. Sure, he may pay a bill or two, but this man has no idea what it means to live on his own, do his own grocery shopping, or even how to budget. If you settle down with this mama’s boy, just know that he will probably end up moving in with you too.

THEY TALK EVERY SINGLE DAY

While you may find this endearing in the beginning, I can assure you that this will become “played out” very fast. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a man checking in with his mama. But if their phone conversations average an hour each day, it’s safe to say there’s an abnormal amount of influence from her in regards to his life.

If you’re already caught up with a mama’s boy and you’re not happy with the relationship, the best thing to do is to put your foot down and demand that some things change. But don’t be too pushy if you really want to hold onto this mama’s boy. Remember, she was there first, and because he’s codependent, old habits do die hard. Patience is key, but only you know how much you can take. If this is something that you don’t think you can handle, it may be time to move on.

China Blasts Survivor: ‘I Could Feel Death’

The survivors of two massive explosions at a warehouse in the Chinese city of Tianjin have told how they had thought they were experiencing an earthquake or a bomb.

The blasts tore through an industrial area at the port late on Wednesday, killing 44 people – including at least a dozen firefighters – and injuring more than 500.

Vast areas of the port, which is the 10th largest in the world, were ruined, shipping containers crumpled, hundreds of new cars destroyed and buildings left as burnt-out shells.

Tianjin resident Zhang Siyu, who lives several kilometres from the site of the explosions, said she had rushed downstairs in her house without her shoes on because she “thought it was an earthquake”.

“There was the huge fireball in the sky with thick clouds.”

Picture: Tianjin Warehouse Explosions

Ms Zhang said she could see wounded people crying, adding: “I could feel death.”

Han Xiang said: “It was like the earthquake back in 1976 with glass breaking.

“But then there was a huge mushroom cloud so we thought we were also in a war.”

Hairdresser Wu Dejun, 38, said “My first reaction was to run as fast as I could and get down on the ground to save my life.

“When I escaped, I had blood all over me.”

Guan Xiang, 24, who lives four miles from the explosion site, told Reuters: “I was sleeping when our windows and doors suddenly shook as we heard explosions outside.

“I first thought it was an earthquake.”

Vafa Anderson lives with his wife about 1km from the explosion and said the windows were blown out of their apartment “like a bomb”, leaving him injured by flying glass.

Picture: Tianjin Blasts Visible From Space

He told BBC Radio 4: “I thought some sort of bomb went off. It was a very very loud, disorienting blast that just put me in a state of shock for a couple of minutes. I didn’t know what to do, it was so loud.”

Mr Anderson was treated at a local school because the hospitals were already full but he praised the police and firefighters for their response to the explosions, saying they are “very organised and out in force”.

He tweeted: “I went back to the apartment – glass and blood everywhere. Wall collapsed, doors blown off the hinges.

“Many (people have been) donating blood at the hospitals.

“An eight-year-old boy needed A- blood and a donor was found within minutes on (messaging app) WeChat.”

Volunteers were out directing traffic on the city’s roads and distributing water to upset relatives in the hospital. Outside the hospital they set up tents and served food.

Lines of taxis calling themselves the “Love Team” waited with red ribbons tied to their antennas, offering free rides to friends and relatives of those in hospital.

Why ISIS Released 22 Assyrian Christians

The Islamic State has freed 22 Assyrian Christians abducted from villages in northeastern Syria. Their release marks a largely unnoticed trend in IS (also known as ISIS) – comparative safety for Christians.

Why would IS, a group known for its gruesome beheadings of civilians and its vision of a purely Islamic world, allow Christians to go free?

Graeme Wood, a political scientist at Yale University, suggests that Islamic law protects them. In The Atlantic, Mr. Wood writes it appears that Christians who don’t resist the new IS government are permitted to live as long as theypay a special tax known as “jizya.”

“The tax on Christians finds clear endorsement in the Surah Al-Tawba, the Koran’s ninth chapter, which instructs Muslims to fight Christians and Jews ‘until they pay the jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued,’ ” writes Wood.

Other scholars point out that Jews and Christians are known to many Muslims as “People of the Book,” who Mohammed instructed his followers to treat with respect.

As the world marks the International Youth Day, Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki today joined Nigerian youths to mark the event.

The Senate President received members of All Progressive Youth Forum (APYF) at his office in the National Assembly and cherished the moment with a series of selfies as depicted in the pictures.

The Senate President took to his Facebook page to write: “I wish the youth of Nigeria a successful commemoration of International Youth Day (?#?IYD2015?).

“I join you all in celebrating your industry, perseverance and courage. Based on the theme of #IYD2015, every young person in Nigeria must continue his or her commitment to civic engagement.

“When you, as young people, succeed politically, socially, and economically, we all succeed as a nation.”

In his tweet, he commended the APYF for having representatives in all 774 LGAs of Nigeria which made the party pick 3 of the members as BOT of the party an indication to other youth groups that “If you #TakePart, you can #TakeCharge.”

Sulaiman Manu Lawanti: #GombeTribunal and The INEC’s Intrigues

The popularity of the All Progressive Congress (APC) across the North East is not debatable. Whoever knows the political trends in the North East will draw conclusion that the party has the highest support in Gombe State.

When President Muhammadu Buhari visited Gombe during the presidential rally, a large crowd of supporters brought all activities to a standstill during the rally. The support the party candidate, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya also commands was tremendous. It is therefore puzzling when the electoral umpire, INEC, declared the party loser in the governorship election.

Forget the exaggerated “achievements” of Governor Dankwambo and take into cognizance the underlying facts, hard facts! If you are familiar with Gombe politics, take a critical look at the scenarios, assess the formidable structure of the party, put into account the whirlwind of CHANGE that swept across even Benue and Plateau States, consider the heavyweight politicians in the APC fold, and then ponder how APC “lost” the governorship election in Gombe State? It is unimaginable. The facts are clear: APC won convincingly in the polls.

But as events unfold, it was understood that the ruling party in the state had rigged massively in some local government areas of the state. The desperation by the state governor to return to power at all cost with active connivance of the disgruntled elements in the APC fold made the rigging plans possible.

The APC in Gombe state however discovered a huge discrepancy in the votes captured by the INEC card reader and the results captured in Forms EC8A and EC8B. Some results also varied from the poling unit level to ward levels. The discrepancies are just numerous, just as the rigging machinery was heavy.

As a law-abiding party, we toed the ideal path of seeking redress. Surprisingly, however, the electoral umpire that should be neutral in the matter, is siding with the ruling party to justify the electoral heist at the tribunal. If I am not mistaken, the new INEC’s acting chairperson, Hajiya Amina Zakari, had said that the commission would not support any party that violates electoral laws during election. In a nutshell, the commission will not side with election riggers.

But it seems INEC in Gombe State is crying more than the bereaved. The officials are either inaccessible or uncooperative of APC, but cooperative and supportive of the PDP.

Even before our party secured order from the tribunal to have access to the materials, the commission frustrated our efforts. And after getting the order, INEC officials kept on sabotaging our efforts such that an obsolete photocopier was provided to photocopy the materials. In view of the bulkiness of the materials to be photocopied or scanned, and the constraint of time, the commission denied our party’s offer to provide enough and functional photocopiers and scanners in order to meet the deadline. Note also that APC had paid INEC the sum of N11 million as charges for processing of election materials but despite the payment of the “administrative charges”, the commission refused to give us cooperation.

Gombe INEC’s frustration of our efforts therefore compelled the tribunal to set aside our prayer seeking re-count of the ballot papers used for the 2015 governorship election and also present the result as part of the proceedings. In a simple term, the tribunal set aside an order directing INEC to produce the said ballot papers for a recount in the presence of all parties.

In a recent interview with journalists in Gombe, the secretary of APC in Gombe State Alhaji Sallau Manu Pindiga, confirmed that the electoral commission has ulterior motive in its refusal to be fair to all parties.

Corroborating the state party scribe’s position, APC’s counsel, Mr. Akintola noted that INEC Head of operations had said he was not authorised to produce the documents for verification, adding that his client paid over N11million to INEC to bring all relevant document.

The substitution of the two out of the three-man panel of judges in the tribunal at the crucial stanza of the trial is also giving the teeming members of our party a cause for complain and concern. The new panel seems to be on a mission to unwind earlier decisions of the tribunal.

For instance, the new panel recently dismissed and nullified the petition of the ADC candidate in the election, whose name and logo were excluded in most of the ballots, on the basis of the question over the competence of the petitioner’s counsel, Mr. Sam Kagbo. Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Mohammed Sirajo in his ruling upheld that based on the provision of Section 1 (2) and 24 of the Legal Practitioner’s act: “Only persons whose names are on the roll of legal practitioners can practice as barristers of solicitors in court”.

Although this simple technicality was trashed away by the previous tribunal judges, Justice Sirajo insisted the name “Sam Kagbo” as used by the petitioners’ counsel was not on the role of legal practitioners despite the fact that the counsel is widely known to use the short forms of his name in all his legal dealings and the fact that the petition was counter-signed by the party.

Those responsible for the substitution of the judges should have given reason for the decision, failing which our party would suspect a foul play.

*Lawanti, an APC stakeholder, wrote from Gombe
