Kano state government to sponsor wedding of 1500 widows

The Kano State government has announced plans to sponsor the wedding of 1,500 widows in the state.

The plans which were confirmed by the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, will see the state government spend millions of naira on wedding packages for the widow brides.

Mr. Ganduje disclosed this while distributing empowerment tools worth over N130 million to 1560 women and youth at Government House, Kano.

Governor Ganduje said the empowerment initiative was to make the youth and women self reliant under the current economic recession in the country.

He said the government had also procured over 520 farm implements and distributed them to young farmers, with N5000 each of the beneficiaries to help them kick start irrigation farming.

The governor warned beneficiaries of the empowerment tools that include popcorn making machines, sewing machines and barbing tools not to sell them off.

He said a giant vocational centre that would train over 24 different skills would soon be completed in the state.

See Kenyan couple that spent just $1 for their wedding ceremony

A Kenyan couple unable to afford the expense of a wedding have earned plaudits on social media for pursuing “a budget option $1 ceremony” which they attended wearing casual clothes.

Wilson and Ann Mutura postponed their wedding twice in 2016 because they were unable to raise the $300 (£240) fee.

They decided to get married this year with the minimum of expense.

The groom only spent $1 on two budget wedding rings, which he produced amid cheering during the exchange of vows.

Other expenses surrounding the pair’s nuptials – including the licence fee – were instead borne by their church.

Online commentators have praised their move, pointing out that weddings are becoming increasingly expensive.

The romantic story of Wilson, 27, and his bride Ann, 24, seems to have captured the attention of many Kenyans.

Somali town bans lavish wedding spending

After dating for more than three years, the couple overcame the biggest hurdle in their relationship – money.

Last year their appeals to friends and family failed to raise enough cash.

‘Blessed union’

Wilson told the BBC that his older brother even advised him to forego the wedding and live with Ann without getting married.

But that was not an option for the self-employed fruit seller and his fiancee who wanted “a permanent and blessed union”.

Online reaction

  • “Who said we have to complicate marriage ceremonies with huge budgets?” Jay Can-did (Nairobi News comment page)
  • “This is impressive. The most important thing is the marriage, not the wedding.” Daniel Wafula (Twitter)
  • “Their wedding had nothing, but their marriage will be beautiful,” Beatrice Oloo (Facebook)
  • “God has done for them, five star hotel!” Esther Renson (Facebook)
  • “This is wonderful and I love it so much – using what you have is the best principle of satisfaction.” Moses Matikho (Facebook)
  • “If both families agree, let it be made simple. This will reduce the backsliding rate of the youth,” Martin Mwangi Njoroge (Nairobi News comment page)

“As a [Christian] couple, we wanted to marry and live with dignity in order to avoid other temptations,” said Ann.

So the pair opted to have a low-key wedding ceremony in Nairobi without cakes, flowers or decorations.

The couple were simply dressed, wearing jeans, T-shirts and training shoes. Their only assets were two shiny steel circles that served as wedding rings.

During the wedding service, Wilson surprised the congregation by running out of the church to buy the two rings, Pastor Jasper Ojwach from the Community Christian worship centre in Nairobi told the BBC.

The groom was cheered when he produced them from his pocket just before the exchange of vows.

The couple say they are surprised by the positive reaction on social media to their frugal wedding and have urged other young Kenyans to follow their example.

“I believe money should not stop young people like us from getting married. If people love each other and want to marry they should,” Ann said.

So warm has been the reaction that the couple have received gifts from companies and individuals who were touched by their courage.

They are expected to go on their honeymoon soon, after a travel agency gave them a five-day break.

Finally, Zahra Buhari confirms own wedding

Zahra, the daughter of the President of Nigeria, has finally confirmed that her nuptials to Ahmed, son of billionaire businessman, Mohammed Indimi, will hold on December 16.

An Instagram post by Zahra, who is a graduate of Microbiology from the University of Surrey in England, “#zahmed2016 #InshaAllah’’ was all that was needed to douse insinuations currently making rounds on social media.

Interestingly, it is double celebration for the first family as the president also turns 73 on December 17-a day after the set wedding date.

Earlier slated for November 30 and December 4, the wedding had been moved to a new date, which was kept secret up until the wedding invitation of the young couple was leaked online over the weekend.

The first family had on Saturday disowned some photographs trending on social media and some conventional media said to be pre-wedding photographs of their daughter, Zahra and Ahmed.

A statement released by the Special Assistant on Media to the wife of the President, Adebisi Olumide-Ajayi, on Saturday, said the family described the photographs as untrue and embarrassing to them.

The statement read, “It has come to the notice of the Buhari family, that certain photographs are making the rounds both on social and conventional media claiming to be pre-wedding photographs of Zahra Buhari and Mohammed Indimi.

“Not only are these photographs untrue, but they are also a source of embarrassment to the couple.

“The couple would like to express that as much as they appreciate public interest and well wishes in their forthcoming marriage, they would at this particular point appreciate the public’s respect of their decision to make it a private affair.

“Official photographs would be released at the appropriate time.”

Why Zahra Buhari`s Wedding Was Postponed

The wedding ceremony of Zahra, the 21 year old daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari, earlier scheduled for this weekend has been postponed.

The postponement is reported to be as a result of President Buhari`s insistence on a low-key wedding as he is not comfortable with the attention the media is giving to his daughter’s wedding.

Recall that there were media reports that the family of the groom, Ahmed Indimi presented about 30 LV bags to the bride, Zahra.

The 30 bags which allegedly cost about £120, 000 (approximately N47,144,502, using the official rate of N392.87 to a pound) are said to have been delivered in 30 exotic cars.

An introduction ceremony between both families had earlier held at the Aso Villa, Abuja on Friday, November 18, with the wedding programme scheduled between Wednesday 30th November and Sunday 4th December, 2016.

Marriage Ceremonies Of The Daughters Of PMB Vs GEJ: The Difference – By Lawrence Ibe

Do you know that President Buhari’s daughter got married last Friday (28/10/2016) in Daura, but the President stayed back in Abuja to attend to issues of national importance? He later joined them in the night to meet with guests and flew back to Abuja early Saturday morning to continue his work.

Do you also remember two years ago (12/04/2014) when former President Jonathan’s adopted daughter got married? A huge jamboree of an extravagant wedding was staged while billions of Naira were expended. Customized gold plated iPhones were given as gifts to everyone privileged to be in the reception hall. The best of foreign wines were served. Abundance of  food was in offer and the best of entertainers were hired to keep guests entertained while they dined and wined. In return, the bride was “dashed” over 80 exotic brand new cars, including houses by those her father bragged to have made wealthy.

The worst of it all was that state functions nationwide were suspended, all government activities were put on hold because Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s daughter was wedding; all roads led to Bayelsa. That weekend was madness because the entire administration of governance in Nigeria was suspended because the President’s daughter was getting married. People were falling over themselves to show favour to the President’s daughter in an anticipation that their goodwill would be reciprocated by GEJ.

Now the case is different. The contrast is that, here we have another sitting President whose daughter got married and you did not even know about it because it wasn’t made a state function. It was a very modest wedding and simply family affair. This is what leadership is: a leader not using his political position to attract wordly gains to himself. I can also tell you that some people wanted to make this wedding a state affair, a lavish, expensive and glamorous wedding; but President Buhari rejected that proposal and only insisted it must be modest and a family affair devoid of waste and ostentation.

This post is not meant to praise anyone but to sample an attitude every political office holder must emulate. A life of modesty, simplicity and not abusing ones political office for self aggrandizement. This time around, all roads did not lead to Daura.

If this is not change, what is it?

Lil Wayne Officiated Same-Sex Wedding While In Jail

In Gone ’Til November, which covers his stint in New York’s Rikers Island , the rapper says that the union was toasted with 13 bottles of Gatorade

Lil Wayne writes that during his 2010 jail stint in New York’s Rikers Island, he officiated a same-sex wedding – and also learned his girlfriend had slept with fellow rapper Drake.

The revelations are featured in Wayne’s upcoming memoir Gone ‘Til November, which recounts his time spent serving his eight-month sentence stemming from gun charges, Page Six reports.

Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter Jr, describes in the book marrying off two male inmates. Inmates decorated the hall with toilet tissue and toasted to the union with 13 bottles of Gatorade.

“Gatorade is liquid gold in this bitch,” he writes in the handwritten journal. “Imagine seeing grown-ass men in jail hanging tissue for wedding decorations. AND one of them is Lil Wayne. Crazy.”

As for his girlfriend’s infidelity with Drake, Wayne writes: “Finding out that she fucked Drake was the absolute worst thing I could have found out. Drizzy came to see me, he was like, ‘Yeah, it’s true’. Damn! This is the type of shit a man never wants to find out while he is locked up.”

Elsewhere in book, Wayne describes visits from P Diddy and Kanye West, plus a girlfriend he asked to show up without wearing underwear (“to do a Basic Instinct”). His plans were thwarted, however.

“They have extensive-ass searches before you come in here, so they made her put on a pair of boxers because they knew she didn’t have on panties,” writes Wayne. “Damn!”

Wayne was arrested in July 2007 when a loaded .40-calibre semi-automatic gun was found on his tour bus. He released his eighth album I Am Not a Human Beingduring his incarceration; that album’s follow-up, The Carter IV, came out in 2011.

Gone ’Til November is out 11 October.

Woman Dies Of Cancer One Day Before Her Wedding

A 25-year-old woman diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor in January 2015 died Friday, one day before her wedding, People reports. A month after being given three years to live, Swabey joined Tinder, where she met Andy Bell. She told Marie Claire she disclosed she was going to die to Bell up front, knowing that it meant she was doomed to “break his heart.” She figured that would be the end of it; it wasn’t. They fell for each other, and Bell stayed by Swabey’s side through 12 rounds of chemo, according to Us Weekly. They even managed to have a normal relationship. “We still bicker over whose turn it is to wash the dishes,” Swabey told Marie Claire. “We just make up quickly.”

After 10 months of dating, Bell proposed to Swabey last December. “I cried and asked if he was sure—if we went ahead, he’d be a widower before he was 30,” she said. “He said that he’d rather be married to me for a few years than not at all.” They scheduled their wedding for Sept. 17, and Bell said he couldn’t wait to introduce Swabey as his wife. He never got that chance. Swabey died peacefully early Friday. “Amongst our sadness, we are so proud of her courage, her spirit and the determination she showed throughout her illness,” Swabey’s family posted to Facebook. Before her death, Swabey chronicled her battle with cancer on her blog and helped raise nearly $100,000 for brain tumor research.

Groom Sues Clothing Brand, Men’s Wearhouse, Claims There Were Ants In His Suit

A groom claims that his wedding and his entire life was ruined by a bug-infested rental shirt he got from Men’s Wearhouse clothing store and has filed a lawsuit against them. In the lawsuit, the groom, Anthony Elam from Philly got married to his heartthrob 2 years ago.

He claims that just after he put the shirt on that he got from Men’s Wearhouse, he noticed it was infested by disgusting bugs but he still wore the shirt to the wedding. He said the bugs in the shirt bit him badly and “tormented” him during and after the ceremony.

In the lawsuit he filed against the clothing store, he described the injuries he received from the bugs

on his wedding day as horrendous. He said he had..
— bug bites
— pruritic rash
— systemic inflammatory response syndrome
— infection
— exacerbation of low back pain and/or sciatica
— other injuries involving ligaments, blood vessels and soft parts
— permanent shock to his nerves and nervous system
— pain, agony and serious disfigurement.

The suit states that since the incident occurred, he has suffered emotional distress, depression, mental anguish, humiliation, embarrassment, loss of life’s pleasures and that he and his wife can’t work for an indefinite period of time.

His wife is also suing for loss of sex in their relationship.

Russell Wilson, Ciara Moved Wedding Due To Bathroom Law

The journey was worth it. Celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss, who planned Ciara and Russell Wilson’s magical castle wedding, opens up to The Knot in an exclusive interview about orchestrating the lavish destination affair.

Weiss caught up with The Knot earlier this month while co-hosting a Bachelorette finale viewing party with Wedding Paper Divas at her NYC apartment. According to the hostess — who’s planned numerous A-list nuptials — Ciara and the NFL player’s wedding was re-routed several times.

“I did the whole thing — three times,” Weiss reveals. “They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws.”

The couple then hoped to marry in the City of Light. “They were gonna go to Paris and it ended up being [Couture] Fashion Week,” says Weiss. “And it was really difficult.”

Ultimately, the stars settled on a venue in a neighboring country. “We ended up in London,” recalls Weiss. “They wanted to be away. And we found a castle that was an hour out of Liverpool and they had about 110 guests.”

The “1, 2 Step” singer and NFL superstar exchanged vows inside Peckforton Castle, a breath-taking 19th century venue in Cheshire, England, that’s surrounded by thousands of acres of forestland. “I used a florist out of London — McQueens. They were very cool!” Weiss shares. “Inside the castle, they had a chapel but it was too small because her dress was 13-feet.”

Ciara’s elaborate wedding dress was custom-designed by Roberto Cavalli’s Peter Dundas. “Her dress in person was so much more spectacular than in the pictures, though in the pictures, they’re beautiful. In person, it was shockingly beautiful.”

Weiss says the couple opted for a neutral color palette. “All whites and creams,” the planner notes. “For dinner, it was big centerpieces. And then, the surprise after dinner was they had Earth, Wind & Fire perform in a separate tent. That was really beautiful. And it just worked. Thank the Lord!”

How exactly did the couple connect with the beloved planner? “I knew Ciara because of La La [Anthony] who’s married to Melo [Carmelo Anthony],” Weiss tells The Knot.

Ciara’s bridal party included Anthony, Kelly Rowland and Serena Williams, who wasn’t able to make the wedding in person due to Wimbledon. “I knew all the girls,” Weiss adds. “When they’re bridesmaids, you become close with the bridesmaids too. They’re all so lovely. When I say lovely, kind, spiritual, low-maintenance, all of them.”

Weiss also praised the groom, who apparently has “ridiculous” taste. “He has really, really beautiful taste. He just — you should see what he looks like,” she muses. “And [Ciara’s] son is delicious. Baby Future. Very delish!”

She also took a moment to appreciate the pair. “I think my favorite part [of Ciara and Russell’s wedding] was the ceremony because they were so happy,” Weiss notes.

“They are delicious,” she says. “They really are a very cool couple. I really enjoy their relationship.”

NFL Player Had A Walking Dead-Themed Wedding (SEE PHOTOS)

It looks like nuptials with elaborate themes, particularly ones that are on the grisly side, might be the rising new wedding trend. First, there was that Texas couple that had a murder-themed engagement shoot in June. And on July 23, NFL player DeAngelo Williams married his bride, Risalyn, in a Walking Dead themed ceremony at the Peabody in Memphis, Tennessee.

“I’m a huge Walking Dead fan,” Williams said in a video shot by ESPN. “I wanted to do engagement photos of us being chased by zombies and we didn’t have time because it was during season and we didn’t have the opportunity.”

So, instead, Williams got professional makeup artists to transform the entire wedding party into zombies. His bride was super into the idea. The bridesmaids not so much. “He really had to convince the bridesmaids, and then he said they had to do it because they’re bridesmaids,” Risalyn said.

As much as it was about living out his fantasy, the concept was also designed to make his wedding a little more … unique and memorable than the traditional affair.

“Everybody goes through weddings. They walk down the aisle. It’s over with,” he said. “[The zombie wedding] is a time for us to laugh and point and say, ‘Ha, you look goofy.’ It gives us a chance to step outside our comfort zone and put on our acting skills, whether we possess them or not.”

Of course, Williams didn’t forget what was most important about this special day. “What makes it even more magical is not only did I become a walker, I became a husband.”

Political Associates, Friends Shun Dokpesi’s Son’s Wedding

As son of Dr Raymond Dokpesi got married in Abuja on Saturday, political allies of the embattled Chairman of the Africa Independent Television (AIT) were found wanting in attendance. The wedding of Williams Dokpesi to his heartthrob, Diane at Emerald Park and Recreation, Area 3, Abuja, which would have would have been a jamboree of some sort were the AIT Chairman not to have found himself in troubled waters, turned out to be scanty and was attended by few friends and family members.

Neither the church service nor the wedding reception was attended by any of his political friends or popular faces in the Nigerian polity. Photos from the event showed that the wedding fell short of expectations, as the venues were deserted. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a popular figure in the national polity, said the troubled Daar Communications owner got shunned because of his ongoing battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to him, the wedding would have become the talk of town but for the recent scandal which none of his politician friends want to get associated with. “It’s a pity that all his politician friends have left him at the most trying times. Nobody wants to associate with him because of his EFCC trouble. We all know that anyone who attends or appears in the photos, might be picked up on by EFCC as an accomplice in the ongoing probe. It’s better to be safe,” he said.

Bride Gets Dumped Week To Her Wedding, Destroys Wedding Gown In Heart Touching Way

Kilee Manulak was only a week away from her wedding when her husband-to-be dropped a bomb on her.

Well, not so much of a bomb as a text message saying he didn’t want to marry her.

“I just kind of went numb,” the Florida woman told WFLA. “My maid of honor, my mom and all my friends just helped me… I was just so devastated.”

She did allow herself a few days to grieve, but afterward she decided to “get even” with her ex in her own way — by signing up with her bridesmaids for the Color Fun Fest in Tampa, Florida. The goal: to ruin their dresses.

Manulak loved her dress and wanted to keep it after her wedding, but since it didn’t happen — and it signified sadness — she wanted to get rid of it.

“I wanted to maybe alter it, or do something new to it,” she said of her post-wedding plans for the gorgeous gown. “But I definitely didn’t want to destroy it.”

Manulak feels the same way about her broken wedding.

“I definitely want to tell him thank you for sparing me heartaches down the road, and thank you for letting me go so I can find true happiness,” Manulak said of what she wants her ex-fiancé to know now.

Church Aborts Couple’s Wedding Over Groom’s Refusal To Remove His Designer Shoes

What was planned as a day of joyful union between a couple (names withheld) weekend turned awry as the spiritual leader of a fast growing miracle church in Benin City, Edo State capital declined to wed a couple following the refusal of the groom to pull his Italian designer shoes before entry into the church.

Worshippers, friends, family members and well-wishers who stormed the church were disappointed as the groom, who claimed he bought his shoes for N50,000, was adamant as he shunned pleas from his bride to comply with the rules of the church.

According to a source in the know, the church is reputed for miracles which have led to the influx of
new converts from residents in the vicinity. It was learnt that the groom’s who was expected to prevail on the groom shunned all effort to ensure that the wedding took place.

Meanwhile, as the drama raged, guests and well-wishers who were seated under the canopies for reception at the same venue were lavishly entertained by hired caterers as the confusion between the church’s overseer and the couple.

The beautiful bride who refused to be consoled over the incident wept profusely before church members, and the groom soon followed as tears freely ran down his cheeks.

A senior pastor in the church who does not want his name in print said: “It is quite unfortunate that the groom is adamant.

“We expected that the bride who is our member must have educated him enough.
It is not new among our members.
Politicians, business moguls who often visit comply with our ways of worship and I must say that what we do here is divine and biblical.”

4 Colors You Should Avoid Wearing As A Wedding Guest

Let’s Start With the Obvious
Itching to wear a gorgeous white dress you just purchased? Put it back in your closet ASAP. While it may sound like the number one wedding-guest faux pas that everyone should know, some people forget it or ignore the rule and show up in a pearly white dress.

A Color Close to White
Off-white, beige, champagne, cream, or any other super light color that could be mistaken for white when the lights are dim and the people around you are toasting drink number three.

The Color the Bridesmaids Are Wearing
If you’re close with the bride, ask her for a heads up on what color the bridesmaid dresses are. That way, you won’t look like you’re trying to be a third-wheel to the wedding party by wearing a different style mint green dress than the other girls in the bridal party.

Glitter, Glitter, Glitter Everywhere
Save the sparkles for the bachelorette party or another Saturday night on the town. Avoid wearing anything too shimmering or distracting. All eyes should be on the bride and your disco ball looking dress may ruin her big moment to shine.

Bride Asks Her 89 Year Old Grandmother To Be Her Bridesmaid, And She Steals The Show!

89 year old Elizabeth Govern, called Nana Betty by her family, was asked by her granddaughter Christine to be one of her four bridesmaids – and Nana Betty stole the show. The happy bride shared the photos of her grandma, who she calls her BFF, on her Facebook page and the photos went viral. Most said they haven’t seen any woman this age as a bridesmaid and were thrilled to see it.

Christine said her gran was the life and soul of the wedding party and gave everyone a great time.

“She had the entire wedding party laughing with her words of wisdom and funny comments throughout the day. Nana got on the party bus with the rest of the wedding party instead of ‘going home to rest’ but did not tell my mom (her daughter). She also danced the entire night away, including an adorable moment when she and my husband’s grandmother, Bellsie, danced together. It was amazing.” Christine said.

Kenyan Lady Begs Lawyer To Marry Her, Not Obama’s Daughter

A fearless Kenyan woman made headlines recently after she penned a letter in response to a widely circulated offer of cattle by Nairobi lawyer, Felix Kiprono for one of US President Obama’s daughters’ hand in marriage. She suggested that he reconsiders his offer and consider marrying her instead

Kiprono got more than he bargained for when a bold 27-year-old beautiful and hardworking single Kenyan lady of Kamba origin, Ann Kioko wrote a long letter as a reply to the Lawyer’s open letter to the American president,  in which she wonderfully inscribed her own reasons why she should be considered instead of Malia.

In the letter the Kenyan lass begs the city lawyer to choose her and explains why she thinks she would be the ideal woman for Kaprino. She later on made copies which she disseminated to the local media, probably hoping that the letter will somehow end up in the lawyer’s hands.

Later on, she posted on her Facebook account that she was giving the lawyer 5 days to respond.

Guests Panic, As 10 Die After Meal At Katsina Wedding

There was confusion yesterday at Nadangoro area of Katsina metropolis as no fewer than 10 persons were feared dead and many others hospitalised after a wedding meal.

The incident, Vanguard learned, is already causing panic among residents of the area, as most of the guests, who ate or drank anything at the ceremony, are being contacted by friends.
They are all now undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the town. It was learned that most of the affected victims had complained of stomach ache shortly after leaving the ceremony, while some died hours after being admitted in the hospitals.

A staff of Federal Medical Centre, who pleaded anonymity, said the hospital had received a number of cases relating to the incident.

“I think, from the information gathered so far, the case of some of the victims has to do with food poisoning,” the staff said.

Couple Hosts an ISIS Themed Wedding

An Egyptian couple shocked guests when they staged a jihadist invasion at their wedding ceremony whereby the couple were threatened by knife point.

Video footage of the event shows the best man and other men storming the stage wearing black balaclavas and attire4 similar to those shown on Islamic State videos. The men forced the couple to get into cage similar to the way they burnt a Jordanian pilot to death earlier in the year.

Apparently the only people who knew about the pretend attack in advance were the groom, his best men and the photographer who was told to film everything. The bride was told to expect something different from their wedding.

According to the media, many wedding guests thought the attack was genuine and were terrified.

Angelina Jolie Narrates her Wedding Hitches

Angelina Jolie opens up about married life with Brad Pitt in the December 2014 cover story of Vanity Fair and can’t help but gush over her man. When asked if she felt any differently now that they had officially tied the knot, she admitted, “It does feel different. It feels nice to be husband and wife.” The 39-year-old also dished about their surprisingly low-key August nuptials. “We were all going to have a wedding,” she recalled. “There was no cake, so Pax made a cake. The kids made little pillows for the rings and Knox practiced [being a ring bearer] with an acorn that kept falling off the pillow. Brad’s mom went and picked some flowers and tied them up.” The kids even helped to write the vows.
