Members of the commission arrived at the General Hassan Usman Katsina House, venue of the public hearing as early as 9 O’clock in the morning and waited for about an hour without seeing members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria or their lawyers.

Their absence may be unconnected with their demand for the release of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and over 700 of their members, who were taken into custody by security operatives days after the incident.

But the Nigerian Army was represented at the sitting by the General Officer Commanding One division, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade.

The absence of the Shiite members compelled the commission to adjourn till Wednesday, February 4 in expectation that counsel to the commission, Yusuf Ali, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, would ascertain the whereabouts of Sheik El-Zakzaky and report back to the commission by the next sitting.

According to him, the wedding would have become the talk of town but for the recent scandal which none of his politician friends want to get associated with. “It’s a pity that all his politician friends have left him at the most trying times. Nobody wants to associate with him because of his EFCC trouble. We all know that anyone who attends or appears in the photos, might be picked up on by EFCC as an accomplice in the ongoing probe. It’s better to be safe,” he said.

Anxiety In APC As Governors Shun Presidential Rallies

There is palpable tension among members of the All Progressives Congress. The tension is caused by the refusal of governors of the party to attend the party’s presidential campaign rallies. Since the commencement of party’s presidential campaigns, some of the governors have not bothered to show up at the event once it is outside their states.

The party has been receiving complaints from members of the party who have said that unlike the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which governors flock to rallies in support of the party’s presidential candidate, many of the APC governors have been holding back their presence from such rallies.

The party has, however, denied that the absence of the governors has nothing to do with any rift between them and the party’s presidential campaign organ.

Garba Shehu,  the Director of Media and Publicity of the party’s presidential campaign organisation, said all the APC governors are committed to the success of the party at all levels at the polls and that they are working towards that.
