“We won’t be part of Army chief’s panel of inquiry” – IPOB

Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have faulted the purported panel of inquiry set up by Gen. Tukur Buratai to investigate the multiple killings of unarmed civilians. They vowed not to participate in such a panel.

In a statement yesterday, spokespersons of the group, Dr. Ikenna Chinaka and Iyom Grace Ukpai, advised Buratai to disband the panel.

They said the action of the Nigerian army in setting up the purported panel of inquiry was apparently compelled by the widely published report of the Amnesty International (AI) on the gruesome and odious massacre of over 1,000 IPOB members, especially in the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria within the last one year.

“Despite overwhelming evidence that the Nigerian security forces have committed human rights violations, including extra-judicial executions, torture and other ill-treatment, there has been no action by the authorities to hold them accountable. This report includes evidence of 87 videos of the events showing the killings of pro-Biafra activists and the immediate aftermath of these fatal shootings,” IPOB noted.

IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu To Know Fate On April 25.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed April 25, 2017 for ruling on bail application filed by the self acclaimed leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and three others.

The court also reserved April 6, to hear the application seeking for a variation on its earlier ruling on protection of witnesses, in the matter through the use of screen or mask .

Justice Binta Nyako told the defendants and their lawyers that inspite of their application, she will not change her mind on the protection of witnesses, as long as they remain with security operatives.

According to her, their participation in the case is one of their duties, as such she will not expose them because of future engagement.

The defendants however insisted that they would still bring their application on the ground that her quashing of six out of the earlier eleven charges, has made the case a fresh one.

They say they are inclined to seek for a variation on the witness protection order.

IPOB accuses Britain of using Nigerian government to suppress quest for Biafra.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused Britain of orchestrating the Nigerian government’s suppression of Biafra.

IPOB said it was hypocritical of the British government to be against the quest for Biafra when it allowed Scotland conduct a referendum.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Emma Mezu and Clifford Iroanya, IPOB said the “restoration of Biafra” is unstoppable and as such, the British government is wasting its time.

“It is hypocritical of the British government to support Nigerian government in violently suppressing the quest for Biafra self-determination when the same British government opted out of European Union. This same British government allowed Scotland to conduct referendum without using B52 bombers to bomb the Scottish people,” read the statement.

“Why is it that the British government is so livid when it comes to the right of self-determination of the Biafran people? The most laughable aspect of British government‘s objection to Biafra exit from Nigeria is the lame excuse of believing in the territorial integrity of pre-independence Nigeria.

“But Nigeria’s territorial integrity is not the same from independence till date because the world is aware that a section of Nigeria called Bakassi had been ceded to the Cameroons, even though the Nigerian Constitution was not adjusted to exclude that ceded section.

“Also, the British government tried everything to resist the phasing-out of colonialism, but its resistance came to naught because colonialism was defeated even though the British played a trick on the world by giving the impression that Nigeria is no longer colonized whereas, in practice, Nigeria is still controlled and pillaged by the British government.

“The latest gimmick of hiding behind Nigerian officials will not do any good to the British government because Biafrans can read in-between the lines to decipher when the British government is speaking through these Nigerian government officials.

“We will like to advise the Nigerian government officials being used by Britain that they are wasting their time because the restoration of the nation of Biafra is unstoppable and irreversible.

“One incontrovertible fact the British government and their Nigerian collaborators must bear in mind is that the civilized world had determined that self-determination is an inalienable right and there is nothing anybody can do about it. Biafra is a must, whether the purveyors of iniquity in the name of keeping Nigeria one, like it or not.”

IPOB: Amnesty International fabricated report of extrajudicial killings – Army

The Nigerian military has accused human rights organisation, Amnesty International (AI), of fabricating its latest report about extrajudicial killings and torture of 240 people in the country’s north-east and 177 pro-Biafran agitators.

In a statement signed by acting director defence information, Rabe Abubakar, a brigadier general, the military described the report as a continuation of AI’s “series of spurious fabrications aimed at tarnishing the good image of the Nigerian military.”

Amnesty International has been relentless in its exposure of human rights abuses allegedly perpetrated by Nigerian soldiers in the country’s war against Boko Haram and the military’s ruthlessness in quelling protests in other parts of Nigeria.

The organisation’s latest reports stated that 240 people including infants died in a dreaded military detention centre in Borno in 2016 while 177 pro-Biafran agitators were extra-judicially killed same year.

“At the military detention facility at Giwa barracks, Maiduguri, cells were overcrowded. Diseases, dehydration and starvation was rife. At least, 240 detainees died during the year. Bodies were secretly buried in Maiduguri’s cemetery by the Borno State Environmental Protection Agency staff. Among the dead were, at least, 29 children and babies, aged between newborn and five years.”

On the killings of pro-Biafra agitators, the report alleged that, “Since January, in response to the continued agitation by pro-Biafra campaigners, security forces arbitrarily arrested and killed, at least, 100 members and supporters of the group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. Some of those arrested were subjected to enforced disappearance.

“On February 9, soldiers and police officers shot at about 200 IPOB members, who had gathered for a prayer meeting at the National High School in Aba, Abia State. Video footage showed soldiers shooting at peaceful and unarmed IPOB members; at least, 17 people were killed and scores injured.”

However, the military, like it has repeatedly done in the past, denied the claims contained in the report saying “they were contrived lies orchestrated to blackmail and ridicule the Nigerian Armed Forces.”

Mr. Abubakar said AI is in the habit of encouraging “activities of non-state actors who take up arms against the state, killing, maiming and destroying public property.”

“In as much as the Nigerian military acknowledges and respects the views and constructive criticism of individuals, groups or even international organisations including Amnesty International, it will not fall for nor accept the deliberate falsehood that have no bearing with the fact or reality on ground.

“The truth is that the Nigerian military has always been open in its operations and do not hide its activities from the probing eye of the public. Amnesty International chose to bandy fabricated reports and concocted stories instead of seeking clarifications from the relevant authorities.”

“It smacks of mischief for the AI to insist on publishing unverified and unsubstantiated report as it is only them that knows why it embark on such dishonourable venture over a period of time,” he said.

“The Nigerian military rejects this AI reports in its entirety and appeals to all well meaning Nigerians to disregard the report and discountenance its contents as they were meant to paint Nigeria in bad light. We reassure our citizens of our commitment to terminate these myriads of security challenges facing our country, mindless of unfounded reports and cheap blackmail by AI,” he added.

IPOB killings: Defence HQ describes Amnesty’s claims as fabrications

The Defence Headquarters has described a recent report by the Amnesty International, alleging death of 240 people including babies in Borno and 177 pro-Biafran agitators as yet “another spurious fabrications’’.

The Acting Director Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, said on Wednesday in Abuja that the report was aimed at tarnishing “the good image of the Nigerian military’’.

Abubakar rejected the reports in its entirety and appealed to Nigerians to disregard it and discountenance its contents as they were meant to paint Nigeria in a bad light.

He said, “Without mincing words, the allegations contained in the said report are not only inconceivable but has no place in the Nigerian military.

“The report is rather contrived lies orchestrated to blackmail and ridicule the Nigerian Armed Forces which the amnesty international has unsuccessfully tried to do in the past.”

Abubakar said it was on record that the organisation embarked on such series of false allegations against the military and sister agencies since the inception of military action against terrorists in the North East.

He said, “Amnesty International would only encourage activities of non-state actors who take up arms against the state, killing, maiming and destroying public property but would always accuse security forces who are sacrificing everything to restore peace and normalcy.”

Abubakar said that the military welcome constructive criticism of individuals, groups or even international organisations, including amnesty international.

He, however, said that it would not “fall for nor accept the deliberate falsehood that has no bearing with the fact or reality on ground.”

He added, “The truth is that the Nigerian military has always been open in its operations and do not hide its activities from the probing eye of the public.

“Amnesty International chose to bandy fabricated reports and concocted stories instead of seeking clarifications from the relevant authorities.

“The Defence Headquarters run an open door policy in terms of information on its activities in the North East or elsewhere and is ever ready to provide clarifications on any issue.

“On a number of times, the National Human Rights Commission had sent its delegation to seek clarification on issues they are not comfortable with, and in each occasion, the DHQ always oblige them with the information they sought.

“Amnesty international will rather contrive their report to suit their intention which is to cast slur on the image and integrity of the Nigerian military.

“It smacks of mischief for the amnesty international to insist on publishing unverified and unsubstantiated report as it is only the organisation that knows why it embarks on such dishonourable venture over a period of time.”

Abubakar reassured Nigerians of the commitment of the military to deal with the myriads of security challenges facing our country in spite of the unfounded reports and cheap blackmail by amnesty international.

Biafra: Igbos feel unwanted in Nigeria – John Nwodo

John Nwodo, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, says if the marginalisation against the Igbo ends, Biafran agitators “will probably twice”.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Nwodo blamed the pro-Biafra agitation on an alleged marginalisation by the federal government

He said: “Our people feel unwanted in the Nigerian federation; our people feel ill-treated.”

According to him, the Igbo was seen as “being incompetent, incapable, or unreliable of being vested with the headship of any of the security agencies in Nigeria”.

Citing Boko Haram, Niger Delta militants and the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), who he said had taken over territories or destroyed properties, the president-general wondered what the Biafran agitators had done to the government.

“Under the constitution of Nigeria, you have freedom of expression and freedom of association. If somebody says he wants Biafra, he is free to say so as long as he is saying it in a legitimate way. He can take his petition to the national assembly,” Nwodo said.

“He can have a plebiscite, if he wins, fine, if he doesn’t win, he takes it like that. The fact that we, their fathers, have not joined them should give a signal to Nigeria that they have not yet become so popular to carry us along and that this matter can be addressed politically.

“If they see this marginalisation end, if they see the restructuring of the country, they could probably think twice. There has been several failed negotiation which the federal government publicly admitted and millions of naira lost.

“I know of a militant organisation in this part (Niger Delta) called the Avengers, who are as angry as MASSOB and IPOB boys. They have destroyed wells, pipelines. I know the vice-president of Nigeria has visited three Niger Delta states seeking for peace and negotiation in order to keep their children calm.

“I know OPC in Western Nigeria, who is like a military force, saluted at every checkpoint. What has IPOB and MASSOB done to the federal government? Why are they being treated differently? Is this an animal farm where some are more equal than others?

“For that reason, I say to my brothers who are in MASSOB and IPOB, I am your brother and I extend my hand of fellowship. Come and let’s work together. I understand why you do what you are doing; I understand your anger, your frustration and your expectations. In spite of the crude methods they have used to suppress you, you have continued to move on. I feel so bad about our people.”

He said the Igbo people should realise that they were a special people like the Jews “who through dint of hard word transformed the desert to an arable land despite all their travails and security concerns”.

IPOB attacks Mbaka for saying ‘elites’ should lead Biafra agitation

The Indigenous People of Biafra on Thursday attacked Catholic priest and founder of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, for suggesting that the agitation for Biafra should be led by
The leaders of most of the pro-Biafra groups, including IPOB and the Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, are young men.
Also, majority of the activists who have been taking to the streets in pro-Biafra protests are youth.
In a video clip from a recent sermon, which was posted online, Mbaka reportedly said youths should not be leading the struggle, as is the case at the moment.
The cleric noted that the agitation for Biafra would be more effective if prominent Igbo personalities are at the forefront of the struggle.
But Mbaka’s comments did not go down well with IPOB.
In a statement made available to our correspondent in Enugu, IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, said the secessionist group condemned Mbaka’s statements.
Apparently due to Mbaka’s perceived support for President Muhammadu Buhari, IPOB referred to him in the statement as ‘Usman Mbaka’.
“The indigenous People of Biafra and its leadership worldwide condemn the statement credited to Rev. Ejike Mbaka.
“From what Usman Mbaka said in his video about IPOB, you would have thought that the same Jesus he worships, sells olive oil and pure water in his name, was 1000 years old when he started his ministry that changed the course of human history,” the statement said.
IPOB said it was wrong for the cleric to associate leadership with age.
Drawing on several Biblical examples, the group insisted that God can raise young persons to leadership positions.
The statement added, “The same Bible Mbaka is supposedly reading everyday is replete with instances where God raised children, from Joseph, Moses, Samuel, David, Samson, Jephthah etc, to do His will in the lives of his children.
“Why didn’t God use Reuben who was the eldest son of Jacob instead of Joseph who is second to the last? Why did God choose baby Moses, even as he was in a basket, to lead his people out of Egypt instead of Moses’ father or another elder from the Hebrew community in Goshen, Egypt?

Police Arrest 65 at IPOB’s Pro-Trump Rally

Police in Nigeria on Sunday said they had arrested 65 people at a demonstration of support for US President Donald Trump organised by pro-independence activists in the country’s south.

The rally, which took place on Friday in the southern oil hub of Port Harcourt, was organised to coincide with the billionaire businessman’s inauguration as the 45th US president.

It was organised by a pro-Biafra group advocating an independent state in southeastern Nigeria and was held on the eve of massive demonstrations against Trump across the globe.

“Some suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)… staged an unlawful protest in the Port Harcourt metropolis,” said Rivers State’s deputy police chief Ahmed Magaji.

He said the march was not authorised and had disturbed the public order, with police using tear gas to disperse them.

“About 65 of them were arrested” on suspicion of belonging to the IPOB, and were found to be carrying the movement’s flag, he said.

The IPOB is part of a wider secessionist movement that advocates an independent state of Biafra, a region in southeast Nigeria that unsuccessfully fought for independence in a brutal three-year civil war that ended in 1970.

Posting on Twitter, several pro-Biafra activists claimed police had brutally attacked the unarmed demonstrators and even killed several of them but there was no way of independently verifying the reports.

Early on in the US presidential race, IPOB threw its support behind Trump in the belief he would recognise their independence movement.

Soon after Britain voted in a referendum in June to leave the European Union, the group pushed for its own version of “Brexit” from Nigeria that it dubbed “Biafrexit”.

Separatist sentiment has grown over the past 15 months since the arrest of the brother of the IPOB’s leader, with activists engaging in bloody clashes with the security forces that have been condemned by human rights groups.

JUST IN: IPOB Trump solidarity rally turns violent

The solidarity rally by the indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for new US President, Donald Trump in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State has turned violent.

Media and Publicity ?secretary of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful, in a short message he sent to DAILY POST alleged that no fewer than 11 members of the pro-Biafra group have been shot dead by security operatives.

“They have attacked our people; 11 have been confirmed dead, many others have bullet wounds”, he claimed in the statement.

He alleged that the attack was carried out by the police, the army and the Department of State Services, beside First Artillery junction, Port-Hacourt.

The IPOB spokesman had earlier in a statement he issued on Friday morning, raised the alarm over what he called, ?”the barbaric plans by the Nigeria security agencies against the recent TRUMP solidarity rally in Igweocha Port-Harcourt River state today, 20th January 2017.”

“The Nigeria security agencies, especially the DSS have perfected plans to share some weapons/guns to unscrupulous elements in the society to join the peaceful solidarity rally for TRUMP today in order to create problem within the crowd.

“IPOB is a peaceful organization that have no guns or weapons but Nigeria government and her security agencies especially the DSS have shared destructive objects to kill people in Igweocha River state today.

“?We are calling on international community, men and women of good conscience around the world to note this because IPOB is peaceful and if anything happens, Nigeria government led by Muhammadu Buhari and the security agencies, especially the DSS should be held responsible,” he had claimed.

However, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, described the reported killing as false.

He said to the best of his knowledge, there was no casualty as the police did not use force but merely employed minimal action, which involved the use of tear gas.

He added that the situation had been brought under control and that everybody was now going about their normal businesses.

Ohaneze Ndigbo urges President Buhari to free IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Ohanaeze Ndigbo is canvassing a political solution to the prolonged incarceration of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, just as it vowed not to abandon members of the group and those of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in their struggle.

The organisation is also determined to repatriate Igbo investments for integration and development.

Briefing the press after its maiden national executive committee meeting in Enugu yesterday, the group’s President General, Dr. John Nnia Nwodo, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to free Kanu, insisting that a political solution to the issue was desirable.

“It may precipitate political consequences which are not good for Nigerian politics and as a father of Kanu and Ndigbo, I am asking the President to seek a political solution and I am prepared to discuss it with him.

‘’This imbroglio must end. We must find a way out. I am asking him to be a father and look at his son and see whether he must use the full weight of his powers to handle this boy the way he is doing and whether he is doing so to other people from other parts of Nigeria who have done perhaps, worse things than him.”

Nwodo said Ohanaeze leadership would soon meet with the agitators to find better ways of executing their mission for the benefit of the ethnic nationality.

IPOB to rally in solidarity with US President-elect, Donald Trump on inauguration day

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned that, “heaven will fall” should President Muhammadu Buhari order soldiers to interrupt its Friday’s rally in solidarity of the United States, President-elect, Donald Trump.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group explained that the rally was aimed at making the world understand how “resolute and committed we are towards the emancipation, realisation and proclamation of our God given right to live as free men and women in our ancestral land of Biafra.”

Noting that should security operatives attack its members during the rally, “the non violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect. Our only interest is to exercise our right to peaceful protest and lawful assembly as recognised in law.”

The pro-Biafra group also called on Ndigbos to use all means possible to stop the Buhari-backed Fulani herdsmen from killing Christians in the South East.

IPOB said the Buhari-backed Fulani herdsmen are using the immunity allegedly provided by the President to further their Islamisation agenda in the South East.

The statement reads, “The indigenous people of Biafra IPOB worldwide and its leadership are calling on all IPOB family members and Biafrans from all over West Africa, Nigeria and Biafraland to be at Rivers State for the long awaited peaceful IPOB-TRUMP SOLIDARITY RALLY on Friday 20th January 2017. Venue is Port-Harcourt River State.

“We are going to ask Sovereign Lord God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama, for Trump’s successful take over on that day and for the release of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others detained illegally on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari in all the DSS secret cells and prisons across Nigeria.

“This IPOB peaceful rally on 20th January 2017 will be for Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom all over the world to understand how resolute and committed we are towards the emancipation, realisation and proclamation of our God given right to live as free men and women in our ancestral land of Biafra. We Biafrans abhor slavery and subjugation of human beings in whatever form or guise.

“Therefore, the deadly march of Islamisation through Biafraland, using the cover of Fulani herdsmen, with presidential immunity from prosecution and license to kill unarmed Christian populations at will, MUST be stopped by every means necessary.

“This IPOB peaceful rally for Trump in Igweocha on Friday the 20th of January 2017 will feature the pictures of our able leader and prophet of our time Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the pictures of those detained illegally alongside him and those of President Donald Trump.

“As usual we shall maintain strict discipline of nonviolence and non-engagement with enemy combatants the Nigerian Army and Police. However we must reiterate that should President Buhari ordered his soldiers to fire at IPOB peaceful protesters, heaven will fall.

“The non-violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect. Our only interest is to exercise our right to peaceful protest and lawful assembly as recognised in law.

“Should any trigger happy army or police personnel fire at our members, the world should hold Buhari responsible for any outcome. Gov. Nyesom Wike is also hereby reminded of his responsibility to protect the lives of those on peaceful rally.

“He should not allow himself to be used by Northern elements within the security apparatus in Igweocha to kill our people. We have not forgiven him for his past actions, so he must be careful not to allow a breakdown of law and order on the 20th as a result of any provocative behaviour by the Hausa Fulani Islamic Nigerian Army.

“Peaceful rallies and marches are recognised in law all over the world so we can’t stop exercising this right now because of intimidation and brutality.

“Every IPOB local media team are advised to be at Igweocha to provide live video and audio feed for live simulcasting on Biafra Television, Radio Biafra and Facebook. We want to capture every moment of the rally because the whole world will be watching.

“In anticipation of mobile network disruptions as they did during the last two court appearance in Abuja, head of media will provide free satellite wi-fi feed for all those intent of broadcasting live. We must be prepared with all our gadgets and recording equipments.

“IPOB appreciates the wise counsel and support of our friends from all over the world. Freedom is not negotiable because right to self-determination is inalienable.”

Buhari messed up by not traveling to Enugu – By Jude Egbas

In the minds of the average South Easterners, President Muhammadu Buhari doesn’t care about them.

It’s ‘constitutional’ to hate or deride Buhari in several parts of the South East. He’s persona non grata  in these parts.

South East States are Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu and Abia. It is not uncommon to hear people from these States refer to the President’s political party, APC, as Hausa party.

In the last presidential contest, only a few persons in the South East turned up for Buhari.

Buhari received a paltry 198,248 votes from the South East. In contrast, Goodluck Jonathan harvested 2,464,906 votes from the region.

Even Jonathan’s South South base handed Buhari more votes. 418,590 people voted for Buhari in the South South. Jonathan had the most votes in the region, polling 4,714,725 votes.

The South East has always been wary of any politician from the North of Nigeria. That fear of the Northern politician in the Igbo speaking States stem from the ills visited on Biafra by Nigeria during the civil war.

The Head of State at the time of the civil war was a northerner and majority of the rank and file in the Nigerian Army hailed from the northern geopolitical zone of the country.

Buhari was in the top echelon of the Army at the time of the civil war. He was never going to get love from the South East during the 2015 presidential election. The grudge from the South East for Buhari for “fighting against them” during the war, was evident in the eventual outcome from the 2015 polling.

The civil war scars have yet to heal in Igbo-land.

Buhari was flatly rejected in the region.

After winning the general election thanks to the votes from the South West and the northern geopolitical zones, Buhari’s first job was to unite a fractured country. It’s what decent leaders do.

He didn’t.

At an event in Washington DC in July 2015, Buhari said people from the region who gave him 5% of the vote shouldn’t expect to be treated the same way as those who gave him 97% of the vote.

“I hope you have a copy of the election results”, Buhari said at the United States Institute for Peace (USIP). “The constituents, for example, that gave me 97% [of the vote] cannot in all honesty be treated on some issues with constituencies that gave me 5%. I think these are political realities”, the newly elected President said.

It was a careless and flippant thing to say.

Where the South East was looking for inclusive governance cues from the new leader, Buhari handed them one more reason to believe that he isn’t their friend.

With one careless remark, the President had marginalized sections of the country even further.

In the months that followed, groups like the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) became more vocal and destructive; and a certain riff-raff called Nnamdi Kanu gained more sympathizers for his misguided Biafra cause.

Still, Buhari didn’t read the signs.

In his first set of federal appointments, he made sure to ostracize the South East and South South regions some more, handing critics who say he is clannish, more arrows for their bows.

Buhari is yet to visit a State in the South East region of Nigeria since he assumed the reins.

When the security summit recently held in Enugu, it was perfectly normal for the entire country to wonder why Buhari was nowhere near the venue of the event, especially because the government he heads holds up security as one of its cardinal objectives.

For the South East, this was one more reason not to trust Buhari.

What a difference his visit would have made!

Imagine what a charm offensive to this region during the visit would have done for his ratings.

In his defense, the President said he shunned the security summit because he yielded to counsel from South East elders.

“The President was presented with a request to attend the Economic and Security Summit by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu. The President happily accepted”, a statement from the Presidency read.

“The visit to Enugu was scheduled for Thursday 22nd as can be found on the weekly programme.

“After this was done, some other stakeholders from the South East came and advised him to not go in view of the closeness of the date to Christmas; that given the sensitivity of the period to the people, a presidential visit may come with over-exertion and possibly, be disruptive of Christmas.

“In view of this, President Buhari requested that the event be pushed forward to January, 2017. Given his nature, he did not insist. He said if the change of date is not possible, then the event can go on without him. That is what the organisers chose to do.

“The President did not, and he absolutely has no reason to snub anyone.”

Tell that to the birds!

It was a lame excuse from the nation’s number one citizen.

A Commander-In-Chief should be able to show up in any part of the country whenever he chooses—whether at Christmas, Yam Festivals, Ogboni rituals, Cultists’ initiation, hailstones, earthquakes, flooding, Boko Haram war—whenever.

He’s the C-In-C for a reason. A packed Christmas schedule in the host State shouldn’t prevent the President from making a most important trip to any part of this nation.

Citing closeness to Christmas as reason for not making the trip to Enugu was rather hollow and infantile. It was pure, unfiltered baloney. It made little sense.

It would have been better to shut it.

Buhari has to do more to unite a fractured country. He has to assure persons of other regions who didn’t vote for him that they are part of his plans for a better Nigeria.

He’s got to be the unifier in Chief. Thus far, he hasn’t.

Not making the trip to Enugu and canceling an earlier trip to Rivers to flag off the Ogoni cleanup, were missed opportunities.

The President has no one else to blame (for the agitations and unrests in these geopolitical regions) but himself.

Ekweremadu Blasts FG: “Obey Court Order, Release Nnamdi Kanu”

Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu on Thursday in Enugu charged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to show regard to rule of law.

Ekweremadu stated this in his speech at the South-East Economic and Security Summit, where he chided the government for not releasing detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

He said it was not in the interest of the country for the government to show disregard to orders of court.

“We must give everybody his due; if the court says somebody should be released from detention, government should comply with such order.

“This reminds me of the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu; whatever is his offence, he is still presumed innocent until found guilty by the court. He must have his day in court and government should obey court order and release him.”

Ekweremadu equally called on the Federal Government to pursue an inclusive government, stressing “issue of inclusivity borders me a lot; it is very important because as I speak today, no Igbo man is at the commanding level of the Security Agencies.

“What this means is that no Igbo man attends the Security Council Meeting; no Igbo man sits where the security of this country is discussed.

“I must say that if any part of the country unjustly treated, we cannot think of peace”, he noted.

The Deputy Senate President equally
called for restructuring of the country and
establishment of state police, stating that “a unified system of economy is not going to work.”

President Buhari, Ministers Shun South-East Summit After IPOB Threat

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday stayed away from the maiden South-East Economic and Security Summit in Enugu, which started about 48 hours after some pro-Biafra agitators warned him not to set foot in Igboland.

Buhari was meant to be the Chief Guest of Honour at the summit, which held in the Enugu State Government House, according to the programme of the event.

Although the President was expected at the event, as noted by several speakers who spoke during the event, he did not show up, neither was he represented.

Also, ministers from the South-East, who were slated to make presentations at the event, all stayed away.

A pro-Biafra group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, had in the build up to the summit, issued a statement, warning Buhari to stay away from the South-East, in his own interest.

IPOB, whose leader, and director of pirate radio channel, Nnamdi Kanu, is being held by the Federal Government, accused Buhari of ‘persecution’, and threatened ‘a breakdown of law and order’ should the President attend the summit.

While no mention of the IPOB warning was made throughout the opening session of the summit, Buhari’s absence was a major talking point as several speakers expressed surprise, and confusion, at the development.

The Chairman of the South-East Security and Economic Summit, former power minister, Prof. Barth Nnaji, in his opening remarks, observed, “We have not seen the President.”

Later on, in a presentation by the summit committee, Nnaji had to substitute Buhari’s name with that of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who attended the event as the ‘Distinguished Guest of Honour’, in the introductory part of a prepared address where he was to thank Buhari for attending the occasion as the Chief Guest of Honour.

Instead of thanking Buhari for gracing the occasion as the chief guest of honour, as stated in the prepared address, Nnaji thanked Obasanjo for attending the event as the distinguished guest of honour.

Nnaji also thanked the Enugu State government for undertaking to sponsor some aspects of the President’s visit.

The chairman of the event, former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, drew attention to Buhari’s absence.

“I was going to start by saluting the representative of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but I have not been told of such a person,” the retired diplomat said.

Anyaoku went further to express regrets that Buhari was not present at the event.

Rounding up his address with a call for the restructuring of the country, he said, “I had hoped that Mr. President would be here to hear me.

“Like Cato, the Roman senator who always ended his speeches by calling for the destruction of Carthage until his call was heeded, I will restate my assertion that if the Nigerian federation is restructured to have less federating units, this country will achieve greater stability and faster pace of development, and there will no longer be a need for the Federal Government to bailout many of the non-viable 36 states.”

IPOB warns President Buhari against visit to Enugu State.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, on Monday, warned President Muhammadu Buhari to ‘stay clear’ of the South-East.

The President is slated to attend the opening session of the South-East Economic Summit in Enugu on Thursday.

But IPOB, in a statement entitled, ‘Muhammadu Buhari must stay clear of Biafra land or have himself to blame for the outcome of any such visit,’ told the President to cancel the planned visit.

The secessionist group, in a statement signed by its spokespersons, Emma Nmezu (a lawyer) and Dr. Clifford Iroanya, equally warned Igbo governors and other political leaders against hosting Buhari in Enugu or any other part of the South-East.

IPOB warned that the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and other leaders should be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in the state if Buhari went ahead to visit the Coal City on December 22.

The pro-Biafran group alleged that Buhari was a ‘killer and persecutor’ of Igbo and should not be allowed to visit the geopolitical zone.

The statement read in part, “The Indigenous People of Biafra have received information that Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) will be visiting Enugu on the 22nd of December, 2016. We object totally to this visit.

“We warn that any governor or Igbo politician that receives Buhari in Enugu will have himself or herself to blame. We make it public that should there be a breakdown of law and order in Enugu on the 22nd of December, greedy Igbo politicians will have themselves to blame.

“Any Igbo governor or politician that is found among those hobnobbing with Buhari becomes an enemy of the people and shall pay dearly for it.”

IPOB also demanded an investigation into the Amnesty International report, which accused the army of mass killing of Biafra activists.

The group urged all pro-Biafra activists to be in Enugu on December 22 to show their anger over Buhari’s visit.

“We are calling on all Biafrans to descend on Enugu on the said date of December 22, 2016 to show our anger and displeasure at this attempt by some greedy Igbo men to insult the memory of our glorious dead and those still in detention with our leader.

The police could not be reached for comment as calls to the Force spokesman, Donald Awunah, indicated that his line was unreachable. He had yet to respond to an SMS as of the time of filing this report.

We Will Actualize Biafra Without Shooting A Gun– IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, worldwide and its Directorate of State, DOS has said that it would not achieve Biafra’s sovereignty through warfare and bloodshed but will rather achieve it through globally accepted procedures.

It said the United Nations has a set of approved self-determination processes and hence, urged the Nigerian Government and its military to be civil and play by the globally accepted approaches in their dealings with self-determination seeking groups like it.

In a statement by IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Emma Powerful, it said “we are aware that some individuals fear that the Biafra actualization project will turn bloody like done in the 1967 and 1970, but we want to assure them that it will not be so because the international law gives room for the restoration of Biafra through the stipulated lay down processes that will be applied without shedding blood.”

“Biafran by nature have respect for human life. We are not war-mongers like as known by the world unlike the people who are persecuting us who have no respect for human life.”

“Biafrans do not like to shed blood, and the actualization of Biafra will not change us. What happened in the past was the extreme pushing of the Biafran to the wall, but times have changed, we must achieve Biafra without shooting a gun.”

Federal Government Arranging Foreigners To Testify Against Me, Kanu Says

Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday, alleged plot by the Federal Government to import foreigners to testify against him. Kanu, who is facing trial alongside three other pro-Biafra agitators, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, made the allegation on a day he was denied bail by trial Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.

Justice Binta refused to grant bail to any of the defendants pending the determination of the 11-count criminal charge the Federal Government preferred against them.

Charges against the defendants border on reasonable felony and their alleged involvement in acts of terrorism. Their separate bail applications were predicated on sections 158, 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, as well as section 35 and 36 of the 1999 constitution, as amended.

The defendants contended that charges against them were not only bailable offences, but also not felony punishable with death. Arguing that the presumption of innocence under the Nigerian constitution was in their favour, the defendants said their release from detention would enable them to properly defend the charge against them. Besides, they insisted that their right to self determination was guaranteed both by the Nigeria constitution and Article 20 of the Africa Charter on Peoples and Human Right.

They maintained that IPOB which they said has been registered in over 30 countries, has not been proscribed or declared as a dangerous organisation under any law. The defendants expressed their readiness to produce reasonable sureties before the court. However, FG vehemently opposed release of any of the defendants on bail.

Government lawyer, Mr. Shuaibu Labaran, told the court that the defendants would constitute “a threat to national security”, once freed from prison custody. Labaran, who further applied to the court for protection of witnesses billed to testify against the defendants, drew attention of the court to the fact that the 1st defendant, Kanu, has dual citizenship.

He argued that Kanu who he said has both Nigerian and British passports, would escape out of the country if released on bail. While praying the court to allow the defendants to attend their trial from Kuje prison, FG, stressed that Onwudiwe was a major threat, saying he was the only one facing a particular count of “preparatory to commit an act of terrorism”.

Meanwhile, in her ruling, Justice Nyako, held that charge against the defendants “are very serious in nature”, and therefore not ordinarily bailable.

“Irrespective of what the charge is, the court has to exercise its discretion on way or the other”, the Judge held, adding that some of the charges against the defendants could attract life imprisonment if proved by FG.

Justice Nyako also dismissed contention by the defendants that President Muhammadu Buhari had openly directed that they should not be released on bail. The Judge held that President Buhari, being a citizen of Nigeria, was at liberty to exercise his freedom of speech.

She maintained that the President lacks the capacity to influence the decision of the court, saying the defendants did not place any new fact or law capable of persuading the court to reverse an earlier ruling of the court that denied them bail.

“The offences are serious in nature and carries very severe punishment if proven.

“I hereby therefore refuse bail of the applicants. But in the alternative, I hereby order accelerated trial of this matter to almost commence immediately, but not later than two months”, the Judge held.

Immediately after the ruling was delivered, FG, applied for all the witnesses to be allowed to testify behind screen. It also prayed the court for identities of the witnesses not to be revealed in any record of the proceeding.

The defendants however opposed the application, contending that granting such request would amount to a gross violation of their rights to fair hearing.

“We vehemently oppose secret trial of the defendants. They were accused in the open, we also request that they be tried in the open. The defendants need to see those testifying against them eye-ball-to-eye-ball. We are ready for this trial”, Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor submitted.

Similarly, one of the defence lawyers, Mr. Maxwell Okpara, told the court that most of the proposed witnesses were foreigners he said the government imported from neighbouring countries.

“My lord, we have uncovered their plan to bring Ghanaians and people from Cameroon to appear in this court to testify against the defendants.

“We as Nigerians will resist that plot. It cannot work. That is why they are insisting that they should testify behind screen. That plot has failed, it will not work”, Okpara stated.

After listening to all the parties Justice Nyako fixed December 13 to rule on FG’s application. Specifically, FG had in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015, alleged that the quartet conspired to commit treasonable felony contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code Act, CAP. C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2014.

FG alleged that they committed the offence along with others now at large, on diverse dates in 2014 and 2015, in Nigeria, London and United Kingdom. It told the court that the defendant conspired among themselves to broadcast on Radio Biafra which is monitored in Enugu and its environs, preparations they were making for states in the South-South zones and other communities in Kogi and Benue states, to secede from the Federal Republic of Nigeria with a view to constituting same into a Republic of Biafra.

Whereas FG identified Kanu as the arrow-head behind the “hate broadcasts”, it fingered Onwudiwe as the National Coordinator of the IPOB movement. The defendants had on November 8, pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them, even as the court adjourned to hear their bail applications.

Kanu was previously facing a six-count treason charge with Madubugwu and Nwawuisi, before FG amended the charges to include Onwudiwe as one of the defendants. Justice Nyako is now the third judge to handle the trial. It will be recalled that the former judge handling the matter, Justice John Tsoho had on September 26, disqualified himself from presiding over trial of the defendants.

Justice Tsoho who earlier denied the defendants bail, premised his decision to hands-off the case on a petition pending against him before the National Judicial Council, NJC.

Kanu and his co-accused persons had in their joint petition, alleged that Justice Tsoho indulged in act of “judicial rascality”, by delivering conflicting rulings on the same subject matter. They alleged that the judge summarily reversed his previous ruling that barred the Federal Government from masking all the witnesses billed to testify against them.

The defendants maintained that the Judge denied them fair hearing on the day he gave FG the nod to produce “masquerades” to testify against them. Justice Ahmed Mohammed who was the first judge Kanu was taken to by FG, had in a bench ruling he delivered on December 23, 2015, also distanced himself from the matter.

Kanu, who was hitherto the Director of Radio Biafra and Television, ?has been in detention since October 14, 2015, when he was arrested by security operatives upon his arrival to Nigeria from his base in the United Kingdom. The defendants were alleged to have committed treasonable felony, an offence punishable under Section 41(C) of the Criminal Code Act, CAP C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

FG alleged that they were the ones managing the affairs of the IPOB which it described as “an unlawful society”. Kanu was alleged to have illegally smuggled radio transmitters into Nigeria, which he used to disseminate “hate broadcasts”, encouraging the “secession of the Republic of Biafra”, from Nigeria.

The IPOB leader earlier denied the charges, even as the court, on January 20, ordered remand of the defendants at Kuje prison ?in Abuja. Count one of the charge against the defendants read: “That you Nnamdi Kanu, ‘M’, Onwudiwe Chidiebere ‘M’, Benjamin Madubugwu ‘M’, David Nwawusi ‘M’ and others now at large, on diverse dates in 2014 and 2015 in Nigeria and London, United Kingdom, did conspire amongst yourselves to broadcast on Radio Biafra monitored in Enugu and other areas within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, preparations being made by you and others at large, or states in the South East and South South zones and other communities in Kogi and Benue States to secede from the Federal Republic of Nigeria with a view to constituting same into a Republic of Biafra and you thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code Act, CAP.C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2000”.

‘Forget it, Nigeria Will not Break Up’ – Buhari to Biafra Agitators

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday urged those contemplating Nigeria’s break-up to have a rethink, saying the country’s unity is not negotiable.

He said the question of having another country out of Nigeria was misplaced.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President spoke at a meeting he had with the South-East Council of Traditional Rulers at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“The question of having another country out of Nigeria is going to be very difficult. From 1914, we have more than 200 cultures living with one another. God had endowed this country with natural resources and talented people. We should concentrate on these and be very productive,” the President said.

Addressing specific issues raised in the address by the traditional rulers, the President gave the assurance that the South-East will also benefit from the new railway architecture being put in place by his administration.

On their request for more representation for the South-East in his government, the President said that he was “very conscious of the sensitivities of the South East”, on account of which, he gave the region’s four out of five states senior ranking Ministers in the Federal Cabinet.

Buhari used the occasion to appreciate the good work of the ministers from the region in the Federal Government, saying that they are doing very well for the country.

He appealed to the traditional rulers from the South East to persuade their people to give his government a chance and to continue to serve as beacons of culture and traditions of their people.

The President assured the delegation that kidnapping and cattle rustling, which he described as “unfortunate” will be the government’s next target, now that “we have managed to calm down the North-East.”

In taking note of the commendation for his administration’s war against corruption and insecurity by the traditional rulers, Buhari expressed frustration at the endless nature of some ongoing trials, citing some of the cases as going far back to the tenure of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Should killings of IPOB members be over looked? – Emmanuel Onwubiko

The Nigerian Army is once more in the eye of the storm caused by some indiscretions and unprofessional conducts of some of her operatives and officers with regards to internal military operations.

Under the current dispensation the Nigerian Army has had several face offs with International humanitarian groups over alleged widespread killings of civilians.

The latest challenge to the public and corporate image of the Nigerian Army is the alleged mass killings of over 150 unarmed protesters thought to be members or sympathizers of the Europe registered group known as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

IPOB has for two years now waged global wide peaceful advocacy campaigns for self-determination of the people of South-East of Nigeria.

The members of the Indigenous People of Biafra are absolutely unarmed and are some of the most peaceful and peaceable advocates of self-determination Worldwide.

The British founded global human rights body known as Amnesty International has recently issued damaging but extensively verifiable reports of the killing spree conducted by the Nigerian Army in the South East of Nigeria in the last one year leading to the slaughter through extra-legal means of unarmed civilians belonging or exercising their sympathy for the messages of self-determination being spread peacefully by IPOB.

This report has understandably generated considerable volumes of reactions with the Army hurriedly denying any involvement but in another breath said it was only defending her operatives from violence. Which violence? One may ask.

The killings of civilians by the Army go against everything that constitutional democracy stands for because extra-legal execution of civilians is absolutely antithetical to civility and democracy.

For the better part of the last two decades, Nigeria embraced civilian democracy and an essential ingredient of this system of government is the constitutionally guaranteed right to peaceful protests the citizens are entitled to.

Importantly, the attempt to sweep under the carpets these senseless killings captured in audiovisuals and which are watched globally, offends everything that make us rational and thinking beings.

The killings if tolerated would amount to overturning all the efforts we have genuinely made to build a Nigerian nation whereby the Rule of Law would become our national ethos.

Professor Isawa. J. Elaigwu who contributed a piece in the University of Jos Alumni association lecture series even alluded to the basic fact that impunity and cover up by government officials and all other relevant authorities would deny Nigeria the benefit of becoming a civilized polity in line with global best practices.

His Words: “While laws, structures and processes are useful in the operation of federalism as a mechanism of managing conflicts in the process of nation-building, the human dimension poses the greatest challenges to the polity. It does not matter what laws and structures are in place, human beings must run the system. Human operators must imbibe the values of justice, equity and accommodation of opponents…”

I must say it straight away that the attempts by the Army’s directorate of Public relations and the Nigerian political establishment in Abuja headed by President Muhammadu Buhari to sweep under the carpets these serious allegations of mass killings of members of IPOB by the Nigeria Army can only succeed in graphically presenting our society as primitive, brutish, violent and blood tasty.

Even in a state of nature the crude and primitive resorts to self-help measures and open use of lethal weapons as used by the Nigerian Army against IPOB members made up of unarmed men, boys, women, girls and their babies amounted to grave crime against humanity.

The only option open to the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai and the President, retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari, is to dispassionately take legal notice of this large scale evidence of mass killings as presented by Amnesty International, arrest and prosecute the offenders or else the International Criminal Court could be asked to step in.

It is a sacred fact that the Nigerian Army is not set up as a bunch of some armed brutes on specific assignment of occupation, domination and elimination of dissenting voices.

The constitution created the Nigerian Army to comply and to operate in line with the rules of engagement which totally prohibits the deployment of maximum force to kill off political or ideological opponents of the government.

Not even under late Colonel Saddam Husseini or the Ugandan warlord Idi Amin Dada will such malfeasance be expected to be swept under the carpets and the perpetrators celebrated as heroes rather than villains and war criminals.

Looking through the relevant sections of the Constitution particularly Section 217(1), the Nigerian Army just like the other segments of the Armed Forces was created to protect the people and not to kill the people at the slightest provocation.

The Constitutional duty (217(2) (c)) of ‘suppressing insurrection’ as contained in the Constitution did not lift the ban placed on the abolition of extra-legal killing which is the intendment of Section 33(1) thus: “Every person has a right to life, and no one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save in execution of the sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offence of which has been found guilty in Nigeria.”

Besides, Chapter Four of the Constitution allows Nigerians to assemble freely and associate with other persons just as the fundamental freedom of expression is constitutionally guaranteed to all citizens including supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The recorded evidence whereby armed Nigerian Soldiers were seen running helter skelter, and opening fire on unarmed members of IPOB must be forensically investigated. The Nigerian Army must not view these reports as direct indictment of Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai but the individuals responsible ought to be identified, prosecuted and punished in accordance with the Constitutional norms.

There’s therefore a constitutional imperative on the Chief of Army Staff to ensure that those of his boys that violated the law are sanctioned.

In fact the statements credited to both the Army and the Presidency has made it necessary that only an Independent body such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) or the United Nations Security Council can be trusted to deliver justice to all the parties involved.

In the report, Amnesty International Stated thus: “By far the largest number of pro-Biafra activists were killed on Biafra Remembrance Day on 30 May 2016 when an estimated 1,000 IPOB members and supporters gathered for a rally in Onitsha, Anambra State. The night before the rally, the security forces raided homes and a church where IPOB members were sleeping.”

“On Remembrance Day itself, the security forces shot people in several locations. Amnesty International has not been able to verify the exact number of extrajudicial executions, but estimates that at least 60 people were killed and 70 injured in these two days. The real number is likely to be higher.”

“Ngozi (not her real name), a 28-year-old mother of one, told Amnesty International that her husband left in the morning to go to work but called her shortly afterwards to say that the military had shot him in his abdomen. He said he was in a military vehicle with six others, four of whom were already dead. She told Amnesty International: “he started whispering and said they just stopped [the vehicle]. He was scared they would kill the remaining three of them that were alive… He paused and told me they were coming closer. I heard gunshots and I did not hear a word from him after that.”

“The next day Ngozi searched for her husband and finally found his body in a nearby mortuary. The mortuary attendants told her that the military had brought him and six others. She saw three gunshot wounds: one in his abdomen and two in his chest, which confirmed her fear that the military had executed him.”

“Amnesty International has also reviewed videos of a peaceful gathering of IPOB members and supporters at Aba National High School on 9 February 2016. The Nigerian military surrounded the group and then fired live ammunition at them without any prior warning.”

“According to eyewitnesses and local human rights activists, many of the protesters at Aba were rounded up and taken away by the military. On 13 February 13 corpses, including those of men known to have been taken by the military, were discovered in a pit near the Aba highway.”

How on Earth should a civilisation deliberately overlook this planned genocide as documented by this global organisation? Only in a Banana Republic will such large scale mass killings be consigned to the dustbin of history.

Biafra and the business of killing – Okey Ndibe

Except in extremely isolated cases — for example, as an act of self-defense — it is morally indefensible for individuals to engage in extra-judicial killing. When a government makes it its business to slaughter unarmed citizens that government reveals itself as criminally thuggish and the state in whose behalf that government kills loses its moral legitimacy.

That, I am afraid, is the burden that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has placed on itself.

Last week, Amnesty International (AI), a human rights group, released a chilling report on the Buhari administration’s excessively brutal response to members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) who have been agitating for the rebirth of Biafra. The AI report is a thorough job, based on interviews of 193 people (most of them eyewitnesses), analysis of 87 videos and 122 photographs “showing IPOB assemblies, members of the security forces in the process of committing violations and victims of these violations.” Much of the 60-page report is devoted to offering painstaking accounts of how Nigeria’s security agencies, including the military, killed, maimed, and tortured pro-Biafra agitators.

For those who can’t stomach much gore and horror, I would recommend AI’s executive summary, which highlights the sad, sobering facts. That summary begins, “Since August 2015, the security forces have killed at least 150 members and supporters of the pro-Biafran organisation IPOB (Indigenous Peoples of Biafra) and injured hundreds during non-violent meetings, marches and other gatherings. Hundreds were also arbitrarily arrested.”

According to Amnesty International, “Video footage and eyewitness testimony consistently show that the military, which has been deployed instead of police to control pro-Biafran events, has dispersed peaceful gatherings by firing live ammunition with little or no warning. This report documents extra-judicial executions and the use of excessive force by military, police and other security agencies. It also shows a worrying pattern of arbitrary arrests and detentions, including soldiers arresting wounded victims in hospital, and of torture and other ill-treatment of detainees.”

As the head of the Nigerian state, President Buhari bears ultimate responsibility for the carnage committed by Nigeria’s security agents. He is not the first Nigerian ruler to oversee mindless mass killing. Under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigerian troops went on a homicidal rampage in Odi, Bayelsa State, and Zaki Biam, in Benue State. The late President Umaru Yar’Adua was in control when Nigerian soldiers swept through Maiduguri and other cities in Borno State, killing hordes of men on mere suspicion that they belonged to the Islamist group, Boko Haram.

President Buhari has earned a place in the bloodlust. Under his watch, troops slashed and burned their way through a Shiite neighbourhood near Zaria, Kaduna State. His inflexible stance on the vexed issue of Biafra, marked by a dismissive tone, has helped to create a violent climate. Perhaps encouraged by the President’s hectoring style, heavily armed soldiers and other security personnel have gleefully mowed down agitators who dared hoist up IPOB banners.

The President it was who, in a televised interview, defended the illegal detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, despite two court orders granting him bail. Amnesty International’s report cited instances when Mr. Buhari used intemperate language to voice his opposition to Biafra. “For example, in May 2016 he said: ‘We will not let that [division of Nigeria] happen. For Nigeria to divide now, it is better for all of us to jump into the sea and get drowned.’ Similarly, in September 2016, he said: ‘Tell your colleagues who want Biafra to forget about it.’”

In late September, AI investigators wrote to Nigerian authorities, including the security agencies, to share their findings. The human rights group received responses only from Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice as well as Inspector-General of Police. But, according to Amnesty International, “neither answered the questions raised in the [AI’s] letter.”

Even so, once AI prepared its final report, the Nigerian Army trotted out an effete reaction. The military response was a rather familiar mélange of clichéd assertions bereft of evidence. Signed by military spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the statement claimed that AI’s report was “an outright attempt to tarnish the reputation of the security forces in general and the Nigerian Army in particular, for whatever inexplicable parochial reasons. For the umpteenth time, the Nigerian Army has informed the public about the heinous intent of this non-governmental organisation, which is never relenting in dabbling into our national security in manners that obliterate objectivity, fairness and simple logic.”

Colonel Usman went on: “The evidence of MASSOB/IPOB violent secessionist agitations is widely known across the national and international domains. Their modus operandi has continued to relish violence that threatens national security. Indeed, between August 2015 and August 2016, the groups’ violent protests have manifested unimaginable atrocities to unhinge the reign of peace, security and stability in several parts of the South East Nigeria.

“A number of persons from the settler communities that hailed from other parts of the country were selected for attack, killed and burnt. Such reign of hate, terror and ethnoreligious controversies that portend grave consequences for national security have been averted severally through the responsiveness of the Nigerian Army and members of the security agencies.

“These security agencies are always targeted for attack by the MASSOB/IPOB instruments of barbarism and cruelty. For instance, in the protests of 30 – 31 May 2016, more than five personnel of the Nigeria Police were killed, while several soldiers were wounded, Nigeria Police vehicles were burnt down, same as several others of the Nigerian Army that were vandalised.”

Reading through AI’s report, one had the impression that the investigative process was rigorous and painstaking. By contrast, the military’s notion of a refutation struck one as shamefully infantile.

What exactly does “reign of hate, terror and ethnoreligious controversies” mean? Far from exonerating the military, Colonel Usman’s stilted and strained language had the ring of unwitting admission of the Army’s complicity in the massacre of innocent protesters. According to Colonel Usman, the agitations for Biafra “portend grave consequences for national security [that] have been averted severally [sic] through the responsiveness of the Nigerian Army and members of the security agencies.”

That response begs the central question: How exactly have Nigerian troops “averted” the “grave consequences” posed to “national security” by men and women who peacefully demand secession? Was it by shooting 150 of the protesters? Or by invading hospitals to seize injured agitators and haul them into detention?

It is up to the military to decode their own language here. The Nigerian Army ought to explain the nature of what its spokesman described as “the responsiveness of the Nigerian Army and members of the security agencies.”

It is immaterial whether one supports or opposes the agitation for Biafra. The Nigerian state’s deployment of excessive force against placard-carrying agitators is a crime, and wholly unwarranted. In the end, that militaristic approach is counter-intuitive and counter-productive. You don’t achieve a nation by militarising a space. A government that shoots disaffected agitators aspires to create a republic of the graveyard. And such a republic — a space inhabited by corpses — is self-contradictory and hollow.

One would demand that President Buhari investigate the gruesome murder of unarmed Biafra agitators as well as other such grave violations, but that’s will-o-the wisp. Amnesty International called it right: “Hardly any allegations of crimes under international law and human rights violations by the Nigerian security forces, and in particular the military, are investigated. If an investigation is carried out, there is no follow-up. Because no one has been seen to be held to account for serious human rights violations, an already pervasive culture of impunity within the military has been further strengthened.”

Carry out spiritual cleansing of White House before you move in – IPOB tells Trump

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has advised the President elect of the United States of America, USA, Donald Trump to rededicate America back to God if he wants to succeed.

This was as the secessionist group claimed that the outgoing President, Barack Obama had deviated from American godly way.

IPOB, in a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful also advised the US President-elect carry out spiritual cleansing of the White House before moving in after his swearing in on January 20. 2017.

The statement reads, “We are giving that as an advice to the US President elect Mr.Trump because it has become very necessary because of the romance of the current occupant of the American seat of power with the Islamisation agenda around the world.

“The incumbent President Obama chose to depart from the core values of America, a country founded on God to pursue the total islamisation agenda against the Christian communities and against the wish of Americans.

“We the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra want to advise American President-elect , Donald Trump to first bring powerful men of God to cleanse the White House before parking in if he wants to succeed and make sure his government brings back the face of God Almighty to America again.

“He should rededicate America to God Almighty if he truly wants to make America great again. Obama administration has defiled White House. God is unhappy with the US because Obama has forsaken the godly principles of the founding fathers of America who preached for the face of God Almighty in everything America does. Even America wrote: IN GOD WE TRUST in their currency and other important things in America. That is a sign to prove that America is a God’s own nation.

“We will not be surprised if he (Obama) may have dedicated White House to strange gods. This is why God rejected him and his candidate, Hillary Clinton because God wants to restore the lost glory of America.”

Trump, a Republican had emerged the 43rd President after a fiercely contested US Presidential election against all odds and predictions against him.

Trump Will Support Our Struggle– IPOB, Youths

The Indigenous People of Biafra on Wednesday congratulated the President -elect of the United States of America, Mr. Donald Trump, on his electoral victory.

The group, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka and signed by the IPOB Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, urged Trump to fulfil his campaign promises to Americans and others around the world.

The statement read in part, “The IPOB under the command structure of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu congratulates Donald Trump.

“Trump passed through so many trials and so many odds from the leadership of the party but God Almighty made it possible for him to become the President of United States of America.

“He should also remember his promises to the people of America and other peoples across the globe because USA is going to be great again by the power of God Almighty who selected him from the midst of millions in America”.

Similarly, Niger Delta youths on Wednesday expressed their readiness to work with the United States’ President-elect, describing his electoral victory as unprecedented in the country’s political history.

Their message is contained in a statement jointly issued on Wednesday by the Niger Delta Youth Forum and the Niger Delta Izon Youth Forum and signed by Mr. Kemeizonpoumokumor Ayuba.

Biafra: IPOB celebrates with Donald Trump on election victory.

It looked impossible. It looked like a joke. It looked pretty much a one way ticket for Hillary Clinton. But Donald Trump defiled all odds. Donald Trump won the US presidential election in a way many never expected or predicted.

Donald Trump won the US presidential election early this morning in a stunning victory that sent shockwaves around the world. The Republican took the key swing states of Florida, North Carolina and Ohio early this morning, as he marched towards the White House.

Mr. Trump pledged that he would be “president for all Americans” in his New York victory speech.

He said he was “reaching out” to the people who had not supported him to “unify the country”.

“Now it’s time to bind the wounds of division. I say to Democrats and Republicans it is time come together as one united people,” he said.

“I pledge to be president for all Americans,” he said, adding: “The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.”

He said it was not a campaign but a movement that had won him the White House, comprised of “all people of different backgrounds and beliefs”.

He said victory had been “tough”. “This political stuff is nasty and it’s tough,” he said, while thanking his family.

It was an extraordinary election night.  Mr. Trump won some early east coast states and did not look back. When he secured the key swing state of Florida, a clear path to the presidency was laid out. He went on to win Ohio and South Carolina.

In a conciliatory speech Mr. Trump added:  “We will get along with all other nations willing to get along with us. We will deal fairly with everyone. We will seek common ground, partnership not conflict.

“America will no longer settle for anything less than the best. We must reclaim our destiny.”

While Nigerians were busy shouting and campaigning for Hillary Clinton, we the Indigenous people of Biafra stood firm with Donald Trump.

Congratulations to the next President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. We the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) are very pleased and excited to see the outcome of your well fought Victory, after so much prayer and support for him. IPOB would also like to say, we believe that the new elected president of the United States of America, would surely make a difference in Africa and also make freedom of speech/expression towards Self-determination a reality in Africa.

So Biafrans would like to say to you Donald Trump, welcome to the white House, Mr. President!

Buhari using DSS to intimidate new judge handling Nnamdi Kanu’s trial – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of allegedly using the Department of State Services, DSS, to intimidate and harass Justice Binta Nyako, handing the ongoing case of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Following the withdrawal of Justice John Tsoho from Kanu’s trial, the matter was re-assigned to Nyako.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the separatist group claimed that Buhari was using the DSS to pressurize Nyako to fake illness and not attend the re-opening of the trial tomorrow.

The statement reads, “IPOB has received information confirmed by our intelligence team that Buhari through his secret police the DSS has succeeded in putting pressure on Justice Binta Nyako to fake illness and not attend the hearing tomorrow in the case involving the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

“This was the same delay tactics used to pressure judges in the past to deliver illegal rulings in favour of the unconstitutional DSS. Despite the fact that the focus of the world is on the Nigerian Judicial System, Buhari, egged on by Daura of DSS, is bent on perverting the course of justice again.

“The world is hereby put on notice that Justice Binta Nyako is in danger of being blackmailed by Buhari who has threatened to reopen corruption charges against her husband, former Governor of Adamawa State Murtala Nyako if she appears in court tomorrow.

“This tactics of intimidating judges handling this case and subversion of justice must be resisted by all men and women of good conscience.

“Judges who cannot be compromised and at various times ruled against Buhari’s interest are facing corruption charges while those mired in corrupt practices whilst presiding over cases for Buhari, like the epitome of corruption and disgrace to the legal profession, Justice John Tsoho are still allowed to preside over cases while fearless judges have been barred from handling courts cases.

“Justice Binta Nyako was sighted on Friday the 4th of November 2016 in good health. If she fails to turn up to preside over the hearing tomorrow the 8th of November 2016, the world should know that Buhari has succeeded through his DSS to intimidate this woman the way they intimidated and compromised John Tsoho the previous judge.”

We Welcome Buhari’s Declaration That any Nigerian Can Leave the Country – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, on Wednesday, reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration that any Nigerian who has another country to relocate to should do so.

Buhari made the statement at a meeting with Niger Delta leaders in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.

“We are determined to make life comfortable and affordable to all Nigerians. If anybody has a country to go to, let him go, we will stay here and salvage our country,” the President said.

However, reacting to the development, IPOB said it welcomed Buhari’s statement.

The secessionist group said the statement shows that Buhari was already considering what it described as the ‘inevitable disintegration of Nigeria’.

IPOB spoke in a statement entitled, “IPOB welcomes Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration on the impending disintegration of Nigeria, but says no to conditions”, which was jointly signed by Barrister Emma Mmezu and Dr. Clifford Iroanya.

The pro-Biafra group said, “We the IPOB are delighted with the comments attributed to retired Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, who seems to have bowed to international pressure to consider the inevitable disintegration of Nigeria, though with conditions we find inconsistent with common sense and logic.”

However, the group accused Buhari of attempting to exclude the Niger Delta from Biafra.

The statement added, “We observed that hidden in the statements of Buhari are two evil agendas: First evil agenda is that Buhari made this statement in a meeting he had with Biafrans from the riverine or southern part of Biafra which the Hausa-Fulani oligarchy nicknamed South-South or Niger-Delta.

“The underlying objective in Buhari’s statement is to create the impression that the South-South is not part of Biafraland, hence the upland areas of Biafra, Igbo, can leave Nigeria while the riverine areas Ibibio, Efik, Izon, Itshekiri, Urhobo, Isoko will remain part of Nigeria.”

IPOB stressed that the struggle for Biafra has nothing to do with the oil in the Niger Delta area.

The group stressed there is oil extraction activities in parts of Imo, Anambra and Abia states.

“Successive governments of Nigeria have continued to deceive the gullible public that the reason we, IPOB, are agitating for Biafra is because of oil in the Niger Delta region, without making obvious the fact that oil was first found in commercial quantity in Imo State before Oloibiri in Bayelsa State.

“Sadly many people are still ignorant of the fact that active oil and gas extraction is happening today in Anambra, Imo, Abia and Igbo parts of Rivers State,” the statement added.

IPOB further accused the Federal Government of giving a ‘false’ impression that the people of the Niger Delta believed in the concept of ‘one Nigeria’.

God will punish Mark Zuckerberg for removing Radio Biafra from Facebook – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, of allegedly ordering the removal of the Radio Biafra page from his platform.

IPOB told Zuckerberg that God will set an example with him for aligning with President Buhari to oppress them.

The group also accused the Facebook owner of suppressing freedom of speech and expression, adding that he will see the judgement of God upon him.

IPOB in a statement obtained from Daily Post, said “Mark Zuckerberg, a Jew, who should know about the horrors of fascism and genocide, is helping an Islamist Buhari to continue the mass murder of innocent Biafrans.

“Radio Biafra London before its shut down by Zuckerberg who visited Buhari recently, was the biggest and most vibrant discussion forum on facebook with nearly 1 million members.

“Why a man whose family benefited from the freedoms and opportunities the land of the free USA had to offer can turn around to brutally suppress freedom of speech and expression is beyond human understanding.

“Facebook has made itself the wiling tool of repressive regimes and psychopathic murderers in power such as Major-General Muhammadu Buhari the Nigerian ruler.

“Mark Zuckerberg must know that the day he cut the deal with Buhari at Aso Rock his Facebook satellite was destroyed at the launch pad.

“That was a sign from the Most High that he should stay out of this battle between good and evil. Now that you have sided with the Devil, Mr. Zuckerberg, you will see the judgement of God upon you.

“The God we serve will set an example with you that mankind may know that HE is the God of Biafrans. If you do not turn back from your evil ways.

“Look at Nigeria today and know that God’s anger is upon her and her leaders because they dared to arrest Nnamdi Kanu. Satlink Israel lost their satellite because Buhari persuaded them to remove Radio Biafra satellite radio broadcast from their services.

“Nobody comes against IPOB and survives it. We urge you to retrace your steps and reinstall Radio Biafra London Facebook group.”

Mark Zuckerberg met with President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa on September 2, 2016.

“Shiites are welcome to relocate to Eastern Nigeria.” – IPOB

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) is offering the Shiites, an Islamic religious sect, the opportunity to relocate the Biafra land when finally, the movement’s dream country comes to fruition.  This hand of friendship was extended to the Shiites by IPOB’s spokespersons Emma Nmezu and Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya in a statement the group released on Saturday.

The statement centered majorly on Biafra’s constitution which the group said would emanate from the collective consent and participation of the people. The statement contrasted what would be the Biafran constitution with the current Nigerian constitution which it said was singlehandedly written by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The statement read; “The Constitution of Biafra shall be a collective effort of Biafran citizens. Every Biafran will participate in the formulation and ratification of the constitution. No single individual will arrogate the powers to himself/herself to write the nation’s constitution.

“This was the case in Nigeria where General Abdulsalami Abubakar singlehandedly wrote the constitution and falsely stated in the introduction that We the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria…Do hereby make, enact and give to ourselves the following Constitution…

“Nothing can be farther from the truth because the people of Nigeria never came together to discuss, enact and give themselves the constitution. Technically, a constitution is made by the citizens of a nation and not the people; because the people may or may not be the citizens of that nation.

“The blessed nation of Biafra shall never be a member of any Islamic body. Biafra shall maintain its secularity both in principles and in practice unlike the British-created country called Nigeria that professes secularity in principle but a ranking member of OIC in practice.

“Also, citizens will not be forced to practice a particular religion. There will be freedom of worship for adherents of all faiths without molestation. If the persecuted Shiite sect members wish to relocate to Biafraland, we would gladly accommodate them along with other tormented Christians in the North (Arewa land)”

“Justice Ademola Arrested For Granting Kanu Bail” – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has allegedly linked Justice Ademola’s arrest with the unconditional bail he had earlier granted Nnamdi Kanu which the Federal Government rejected.

A statement from IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group noted that Kanu has spent one year in detention illegally while the court of competent jurisdiction granted him unconditional release on 16th and 17th December 2015 by magistrate and federal high court Abuja but since then federal government, APC and the DSS were still holding him and others in prison custody.

He urged Biafrans to be resolute and determine towards the restoration of the God’s own project which is Biafra republic, saying that the project was ordained by God Almighty.

Powerful stated that Biafra will be a country where people of Africa will benefit, ‘the Africa will be technologically, economically, politically and spiritually free through the new republic’.

“However, we are aware of the systematic way of delaying the members of IPOB who were detained illegally in all the prisons and security cells across the country”.

In a related development, Kanu as sued the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Department of State Services (DSS) for contempt of court over failure of the federal government to release him from detention.

On December 17, 2015, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, a judge of the Federal High Court ordered Kanu’s unconditional release of Kanu.

In a statement at the weekend, Ifeanyi Ejiojor, counsel to Kanu, linked the continued detention of the IPOB leader to President Muhammadu Buhari’s comment at the presidential media chat on December 30, 2015, where he said no court would grant him bail.

“The order made on December 17, 2016 by Justice A.F.A. Ademola, directing the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu was served on the Department of State Services (DSS) that same day the order was made,” he said.

“Still, the DSS failed, refused and/or neglected to obey the order directing the unconditional release of Kanu, apparently due to reasons best known to them, which has no justification under any law.

IPOB said none of the affected institutions of the government affected by the order or the Federal Government has lodged an appeal against the order directing the unconditional release of Kanu.

Ademola was one of the judges arrested by the DSS on Saturday on the allegation of corruption.

“Nevertheless, it comes as a surprise on Friday 7th October 2016 at exactly 11:45am we received information that the Biafra land national coordinator of the indigenous people of Biafra Mr.Chidiebere Onwudiwe who have been arrested by DSS was called up in the federal high court Abuja court 7 of Justice Ademola without the prosecutors been in court to defend the matter against Chidiebere Onwudiwe” he stated.

“The DSS being the prosecutor of the matter were nowhere to be found in the court on Friday 7th October, they are running because Chidiebere Onwudiwe committed no crime against humanity or the federal government of Nigeria” Powerful stated.

“Comrade Chidiebere Onwudiwe was arrested in the odd hour of midnight in Igweocha (PH) Rivers state where he was sleeping on Friday 22nd June 2016 still detained in DSS cell incommunicado and have not been taking to any court since 128 days”.

“The lawyer incharge of the matter Bar, Ifeanyi Ejiofor who filled motion for his bail in the federal high court 7 Abuja. The chief judge Ademola who adjourned the matter to be on Tuesday 11th October for hearing because the DSS did not produce mazi Chidiebere Onwudiwe the national coordinator of the indigenous people of Biafra IPOB Biafraland in court” said powerful.

Meanwhile, a political pressure group, Concerned Abians for Good Governance and Justice (CAGGJ) has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) over last weekend’s arrest of some senior Judges across the country and their subsequent arraignment yesterday for alleged corrupt practices.

This is even as the group flayed what it described as the ignoble role played by Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in the failed attempt to arrest a Federal High Court Judge in Port Harcourt by operatives of the DSS.

In a statement by its chairman, Egwu D. Uwa, CAGGJ said Nigerians have for years be yearning for a day like this, when men no matter how highly placed would be made to account for what they have done with what were entrusted in their care.

Uwa said as far as his group was concerned, what the DSS operatives did was what Nigerians had been yearning for over the years, stressing that it was only those who benefitted from what have been happening in the judiciary over the years that would condemn the action.

CAGGJ regretted that most of the politics-related judgments delivered after the 2015 general elections were cash induced, saying no nation would grow politically if this anomaly was not checked.

“It was glaringly clear that most of the politics-related judgments delivered since after the2015 general elections were cash and carry judgments and no good government that what its salt will sit idly and watch things like this go on and that is why we are commending the DSS for this bold step”.

Uwa said it was unfortunate that those who are condemning the modus-operandi the DSS operatives adopted in arresting the Judges, have closed their eyes to the huge cash recovered for the houses of the arrested judges.

Wondering where the Judges got such huge amount of money in both local and foreign currencies, Uwa opined that if the operatives of the DSS had not adopted such method, the deliveries could not have been made.

CAGGJ condemned Gov Wike’s action in allegedly using some party loyalists to stop the arrest of a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, saying the action was capable of sending wrong signals to the public.

CAGGJ said if Wike had no special interest in the Judge, he wouldn’t have left the Government House at about 1.30am to ensure that the said Judge was not arrested.

“We don’t think if Gov Wike had no interest in the particular Judge, he would have left Government House by the time he did to ensure that the Judge was not arrested. Again his efforts in trying to defend the Judge over the amount alleged to be in his house, left much to be desired”, Uwa said.

Shade Of Life: Ebonyi People are myopic, they don’t behave like Igbos – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Bifara, IPOB, has lampooned the people of Ebonyi State for spurning the sit-at-home order it passed.

The group had in a circular issued few days ago, asked Ndigbo nationwide to spend the day indoor in protest against the continuous detention of the leader of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The directive, however, witnessed non-compliance as normal activities and vehicular movements were unperturbed across Ebonyi State.

The Coordinator of IPOB, Mr. Ugochukwu Nweke while reacting to the development, described the people of Ebonyi as myopic and coward in the struggle for the actualization of Biafra.

“Ebonyi People are myopic but we the Indigenous People of Biafra are resolute, we cannot succumb to all manner of threats, intimidations and harassments by security agents and the Nigeria government.

“We are unstoppable and we cannot mind Ebonyi people who are not concerned on Biafra course, they have never behaved like Igbos”, he told Vanguard.

Checks around the state on Thursday show that public and civil servants were also seen on their duty posts while business activities boomed unhindered.

The presence of heavily armed policemen was seen in strategic locations including the popular Nkaliki where MASSOB office is located.

However, at Water Works and Ogoja roads, there were reports of teargas shot by security agents to disperse some groups suspected to be members of IPOB and MASSOB in the State.

Markets open as traders boycott IPOB’s sit-at-home order

The sit-at-home order by pro-Biafra groups, especially the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) was boycotted in Imo State Friday.

Markets, schools, government offices, as well as other public places were opened for business against the directive of the separatists groups, which ordered complete closure of all markets and business places across the Southeast to pray for the release of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kalu.

In Owerri, the Imo State capital, there was free movement as the residents went about their businesses without molestation as had earlier been feared.

Meanwhile there was heavy presence of armed Policemen who mounted at strategic locations across the capital city with their Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC).

However when contacted, MASSOB factional leader, Uchenna Madu, said that the exercise was successful across the zone.

According to him, “we achieved over sixty percent compliance in all the state and that shows that our people are committed to the struggle for a sovereign Biafra. It also shows that we are a powerful group and the people are behind what we are doing “.

On the reason for the sit-at-home, he said that “we decided to sit at home to pray for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and other detained pro-Biafra activists and also to afford our people the opportunity to reflect about the struggle”.

BREAKING: Anxiety in Enugu as MASSOB declares war on Nigeria

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Thursday, declared full blown war with the Federal Government to press for the unconditional release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra agitators detained in various prisons nationwide and in Diaspora.

A palpable anxiety pervades Enugu State over the would-be clash between pro-Biafra groups of MASSOB, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and security agencies following the Friday sit-at-home order, to protest the continued detention of their members in detention.

Vanguard monitored the mood of the people within the metropolis and found out that many parents may have decided to withdraw their wards from school even as they were apprehensive of going to their various places of work.

There was copious presence of security personnel at strategic places within the metropolis especially at the three-arms zone housing the Government House.

At the Okpara Square, a detachment of Mobile Policemen numbering over 200 were seen rehearsing crowd and combat techniques as early as 9.30AM. Unusual siren blaring police vehicles patrolled the streets intermittently while Police authorities had earlier assured the public of adequate safety, advising them to go about their lawful businesses.

FULL BLOWN WAR WITH FG

A statement signed and made available to Vanguard by MASSOB Leader, Uchenna Madu read,” MASSOB in the spirit of Biafranism and brotherhood among Biafra agitators have declared full support for the call for civil disobedience against Nigeria state on the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra agitators detained across Nigeria and in Diaspora.

“In the spirit of collaboration and for Biafra sake, MASSOB will engage positively in every steps, programs and activities that will draw Biafra closer to actualization. We shall continue to collaborate and partner with every positive move and steps that will affect the release of our Comrades in different Nigeria prisons and detention camps.

“The call for stay at home tomorrow which has been our recalling measure and steps for effective civil disobedience is totally voluntarily, this exercise has always been the life wire of the Biafran struggle which boomed the potency and acceptability of the Biafra struggle. The request for closure of Markets, public / private motor parks, schools and other public business premises is voluntarily, not by force, it is a mark of respect and love for our fatherland. As a non violence organization, Biafrans shall not be compelled, pressurised or forced to observe the stay at home exercise.

“MASSOB, IPOB and other pro Biafra groups will not molest, compel or intimidate anybody to observe the stay at home exercise as all our members shall stay indoors, there shall be no physical demonstration, street march, procession or any other public functions tomorrow in Biafra land.

“The heavy presence of armed Nigeria Army, Mobile police, SSS operatives, Navy, Civil Defence in major cities of Biafra land since yesterday are all signs of Military jittery, fear and cowardice, it is mesmerization of President Buhari’s soldiers. The security panic, the presence of Soldiers has created in Biafra land will assist immensely and positively on the people to comply to our demands.

“The Nigeria security agents are complimenting and justifying the Biafra struggle. MASSOB is demanding the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi kanu and others detained in Nigeria prisons. The Biafra struggle will continue to unfold more confusing nature to Nigeria state until they realize their fruitless efforts in the unjust detention of Biafran Jews.

“No amount of security intimidation, mesmerization, killings, detention, oppression, incarceration etc will ever stop the will power of an indigenous people for self determination. MASSOB also condemned the brutalities, unlawful subjection and detention of Uchenna Inya (Abakiliki correspondent of New Telegraph Newspaper) on the day of MASSOB anniversary, the use of force can never stop the inflow of the spirit of Biafra”.

IPOB’s Threat Forces Bishops To Flee Anambra

The five- day standing committee of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, ended abruptly in Awka Wednesday following the sit-at-home threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The meeting, attended by 170 Bishops from all the Dioceses in the country, was the highest decision-making gathering of the church and would have ended on Friday.

According to the IPOB threat, all markets, banks and other institutions would be shut and movement restricted in the entire South East geo-political zone.

There were visible signs Wedenesday in the state of security beef up in various parts of the state.

Primate of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Nicolas Okoh, who expressed concern over the IPOB order, had earlier pleaded with the group to allow the Bishops leave the state, arguing that the order would adversely affect their departure if carried out.

He said: “IPOB threatened to shut down markets and other institutions and restrict movement in the entire South East. We are not delving into the reasons for their agitation, but we are asking them to wait until we leave Awka on Friday.

“ If they go ahead to carry out that order, we may be trapped in Anambra as the Niger Bridge is the only exit route from Anambra State for most of the Bishops. So, people should help us beg them to allow us to go.”

Though Wednesday was the official opening day for the meeting, the Bishops decided to leave the state immediately so as not to be caught in the web of IPOB planned Friday programme.

One of the Bishops from the Northern part of the country said “We are human and so we had to put our heads together and that is why we decided to cut short the conference.

“That is the most ideal thing to do in the circumstance. I will leave this evening and most others will do same. Those who cannot make it today (yesterday) will do so early tomorrow. There is no need waiting; it doesn’t make sense.”

Following the decision, the Bishops hurriedly issued a statement appealing to the Niger Delta militants to stop the bombing of oil facilities in their region in the interest of the country.

They also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to convene a roundtable meeting between government and the agitators in order to address their grievances.

They, however, reminded the militants that shutting down the economy of the country would not do anybody any good.

Delivering his address at the meeting earlier, the Primate appealed to the federal government to disarm the Fulani herdsmen who, he noted, had murdered the peace of the country.

His address read in part: “The Standing Committee wishes to make a passionate appeal to the militants to spare our economy and stop the bombing of oil facilities.

“Shutting down the economy is like pulling down the roofs with all of us inside; nobody will escape the negative impact. We equally call on those who can reach them to join in this appeal for the greater good of all.

“The presence of herdsmen in our countryside is not new, they have always been around. What is, however, new are the unprovoked attacks on their host communities and sometimes saying that cow is missing.

“They lay ambush and waylay people going to their farms, rape women and destroy farmlands; and their victims are at their mercy because they are armed.

“We call on the federal government to immediately disarm these people to return Nigeria to a state of peace.”

“Our roads are in bad condition all across the country. Since our major means of transport is road, we call on the federal government to give the required attention to the roads to reduce the inconveniences, accidents and deaths.

“Airlines operating in the country are going through difficult times, some have grounded operations. No doubt, we need them.

“We therefore call on the federal government to expedite action on floating the national carrier or rejuvenate the private ones to enable them perform better.

“Further in this area is the persistent scarcity of aviation fuel which has troubled the country, disrupted many programmes, including those of government and private.

“We call on government to solve the problem of aviation fuel permanently so that people can move about their businesses with less difficulty within the country.”

Okoh commended Governor Willie Obiano for promoting religious harmony in the state, as well as prompt payment of workers’ salaries at a time many states were unable to do so.

He also congratulated the governor and the people of the state on the 25th anniversary of the creation of the state, assuring that the bond between the church and the state government would continue to grow stronger.

“I thank the governor because he always identifies with us. The religious climate in Anambra is now tension -free. He does not discriminate in his appointments and we are grateful to him.

“We heard that he is one of the few governors that pay salaries and we say, please don’t relent because the church depends on the generosity of the members for the execution of its projects”, the Primate further said.

Biafra: Group compels Buhari to prove felony charges against Nnamdi Kanu

A group known as the International Society for Civil Liberties and the rule of law, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against undue interference in the ongoing trial of embattled Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

This was contained in an open letter to the United Nations, entitled: “International Justice Appeal For Freedom Of Nnamdi Kanu And Other Victims Of The Regime’s Atrocities In Nigeria.”

The group dared the President to direct the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, to either prove its allegation of treasonable felony slammed on Kanu or withdraw the charges for want of evidence.

Kanu, alongside and two others, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, are currently standing trial before Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja for charges bordering on treason and association with an unlawful society.

The incarcerated leader speaking through the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, had faulted Justice Tsoho’s handling of his trial.

The group said the Federal Government, should steer clear of Kanu’s ongoing court case and allow a level playing ground for the accused and his accusers to prove their cases beyond all reasonable doubts.

The group noted that Buhari should refrain from making further mockery of the rule of law and citizens’ constitutional liberties of arresting and clamping citizens into detention for over three months without trial; contrary to Section 35 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended in 2011.

The body also appealed to the Secretary-General of UN; President of the UN General Assembly; President of the UN Security Council; The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to compel Buhari to stop the clampdown on pro-Biafra agitators.

“Nnamdi Kanu Seriously Ill In Prison, Loses Blood” – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra has said its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is critically ill in Kuje prison. “Nnamdi Kanu Seriously Ill In Prison, Loses Blood” – IPOBThe group said it got the information from Kanu’s lawyers who visited him recently.

In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, on Saturday, the group said Kanu was suffering from chest and abdominal pains as well as a violent cough.

The group alleged that Kanu’s poor health might not be unconnected with the bad treatment he had been allegedly subjected to by prisons officials.

It called on the international community to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to allow its leader to have access to medical treatment.

The statement read, “We have notified the international community about his present condition which include debilitating abdominal pains and occasional tightening of the chest resulting in cough, which has persisted.

“The Department of State Services has this information in its record and we suggest it makes it public for the world to know. Kanu’s loss of blood through bleeding from the nose prompted the agency to send in an external doctor to examine him while in their custody.”

The group also declared its support for the United States Republican Party’s presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

The group ranked Trump among other world leaders such as Vladimir Putin of Russia, Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, and Angela Merkel of Germany.

It said Americans and the world should be desirous to see Trump as the next US President.

It also expressed hope that if Trump became the President of the US, he would address “the plight of Biafrans.”

The statement added, “We are calling on the international community, world leaders like Vladimir Putin of Russia, Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, Angela Merkel of Germany and Donald Trump, whom the good people of America, to come and make the US greater. These leaders and others who recognise the ideals of freedom for all should come to our rescue.”

The group decried the DSS’ declaration of the wife of its leader, Uchechi and one Powerful as wanted persons.

“The DSS should have known that IPOB is a non-violent organisation committed to the liberation of the people of Biafra and has not been involved in any violent act or crime during its protests in Nigeria and across the globe,” the group added.

IPOB declares September 23 sit-at-home day

The Indigenous People of Biafra has declared September 23 (Friday) as the day all supporters of Biafra will sit at home without going anywhere or doing any work.

This, it said, would be a protest against the continued detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by the Federal Government.

It enjoined the Igbo and all those who believe in the Biafra ideology all over the country to shut down their businesses and stay at home

It ordered IPOB members outside the country to stage open protests in their areas on that day.

In a press statement from the group’s Spokesperson, Emma Powerful, made available to our correspondent in Awka, Anambra State, it said, “The IPOB worldwide protest will take place in all the countries across the globe, except in Biafra land and Nigeria where church services will be held.”

The statement added, “Every IPOB member and other Biafrans living in Nigeria and Biafra land will stay in their homes on that day.

“We also ask that all markets, schools, banks, transport companies and manufacturing companies to close on that day in solidarity with the overall objectives of the Biafran restoration process, irrespective of your persuasion or affiliation.

“We call on Okada riders, Keke drivers, bus drivers, owners of luxurious buses and drivers, the 911 drivers and owners, the National Union of Road Transport Workers and National Association of Transport Owners to withdraw their vehicles from roads on that day in solidarity with IPOB worldwide for the release of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and for the total liberation of the Biafra people.

“We also advise every Biafran to switch off their communication devices, especially mobile phones, on that day from 8am to 4pm in solidarity.

“This will let the world know including communication companies that Biafrans are serious towards the release of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and the restoration of the ancient and sacred sovereignty of God’s nation, Biafra.”

It maintained that “only IPOB members in Biafra land and Nigeria are exempted from street protests on this occasion”, noting that, “Any country where there are IPOB family units that doesn’t participate in this global event will be shut down.”

IPOB faults Kanu’s continued detention, Kabiru Sokoto’s purported release

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has picked holes in the continued detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, even when he had been purportedly released.

Kabiru Umar, popularly known as Kabiru Sokoto, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for mass murder in 2013.

The group wondered why government was keeping Kanu in custody when he had been granted bail by the court.

It noted that Justice Adeniyi Ademola convicted and sentenced Kabiru on December 20, 2013 for masterminding the 2011 Christmas Day bombing of Theresa’s Catholic Church at Madala in Niger State where over 44 persons were killed and 75 others injured.

A statement by its Spokespersons, Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Ironya, IPOB yesterday claimed most of the dead and injured were Biafrans.

“It added: Now, President Muhammadu Buhari has used his presidential powers and authority to release Kabiru Sokoto, the terrorist and mass murderer.

“On the other hand, Kanu, our leader was abducted in Lagos by agents of Department of State Services (DSS) on October 14, 2015, arraigned at the Magistrate’s Court and later at the High Court on frivolous charges.

“On both occasions, the presiding magistrate and judge struck out the cases and ordered that Mr. Kanu be released unconditionally. Up to this moment, those court orders have not been obeyed and challenged by the DSS.

“What is the rationale behind Buhari’s preference for the freedom of a terrorist and mass murderer over compliance with the rulings of courts of competent jurisdictions?”

The group had recently alleged that the DSS, Abuja headquarters placed the names of Kanu’s wife and 38 other IPOB members and Biafrans on a wanted list.

A statement by the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, alleged that the Federal Government and DSS were trailing unarmed members of IPOB including the wife of their leader, Mrs. Uchechi Okwu Kanu, who is in London nursing a new born baby.

IPOB wondered why its members were arrested while the Fulani terrorists who disguise as cattle rearers were not touched or harmed. According to IPOB, those on wanted list include: Mrs. Uchechi Kanu (Nnamdi Kanu’s wife, London, UK), Emma Powerful, Sunday Onyekachi, Ogechukwu Obiorah, Ann Okafor, Amaechi Sunday Kaju (Sheffield, UK), Dickson Ekeke, Ndidi Ojukwu, Emma Nmezu, Sidney Okoli (Mallorca, Spain), Andy Obeche, Ifriam Ezeiwu, Chkwuemeka Mfon and Ikenna Sunday Egono. Others are Chijioke Ekwueme, Godwin Osinachi, Udoka Amarachi (Dortmund, Germany), Uche Martin Doludo, Nduka Enuma, Ambrose Ero, Clifford Mbamere, Andy Obina Okafor, Stephen Oko (UK), Onyeka Joseph, Eric, Dike Benson, Uche Okafor, Daniel Ifeanyi (USA), Roland Abumere, Kenneth Uche Opara, Emenike Anyanwu, Obinwanne Markson Chukwujekwu, Chukwu I. Ojiugo, Ezinwanne Mba, and Jeff Amaechi among others.

“We are calling on international community, human right organisations, Amnesty International, America, Russia, France, Germany, China, Japan Israel and other countries of the world who love freedom, Human Right Watch, the Christian community and the United Nations (UN) to come to our rescue because the Nigerian government and security agents have perfected arrangements to kidnap and kill unarmed civilians who committed no crime against the government of Nigeria and humanity,” IPOB said.

Meanwhile, the Summit Club of Asaba, a Non-Governmental Organisation, has dissociated the people of the Delta State capital from the call for the establishment of a sovereign state of Biafra.

In a statement by its President, Prof. Fidelis Njokanma and National Secretary, Chinedu Onyia, the group stated that it has become necessary to make their position known on the impression being created by the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and IPOB that Asaba was part of the agitation for Biafra.

In May this year, the agitators for secession crossed the Niger Bridge to stage a demonstration in Asaba, which resulted in a violent clash with the police and soldiers.

The group observed that Ahaba was never consulted on the issue of the agitation for Biafra, stressing that they never expressed any desire to be part of the call for secession from Nigeria.

Emphasizing that any person or group of persons would not conscript Ahaba into a struggle, the club said the people do not subscribe to the motives and methods of the agitators.

The group which stated that it would reject any attempt to make Ahaba a battleground, remarked that its people were prepared to defend their inalienable rights to freedom or association.

The body urged the Delta government to take advantage of security reports and apparatus to preempt any incursion by the agitators into the state in the future.

The club noted that the state government must demonstrate its ability to appy the full weight of the law and its willingness to deploy law enforcement agencies to deal decisively with any future occurrences.

Biafra: IPOB warns against dragging members into fake splinter groups

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) wednesday expressed concern over the resort by its detractors to link its top officials with the fake factions in order to create impressions that the imaginary splinter groups like RIPOB and REIPOB really exist.

IPOB pointed out in a statement signed by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, that the name dropping was part of the “spirited antics of the oppressor to attempt to deceive the world about an imaginary split in our great, divinely ordained movement to deliver our people from slavery.”

Powerful, who said his name was even dragged into the phantom splinter groups stated that “my loyalty to the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu- led IPOB has never been in doubt,” insisting that dragging his name into the imaginary splinter groups would not serve any purpose for those behind the scam.

I do not know any Philip Effiong Osuji, he probably does not even exist. I remain completely loyal to the great mass movement of freedom, under the leadership of our divinely ordained prophet of our time, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.

The people trying to use my name, Emma Powerful, to deceive the masses only underestimated our resolve and commitment. They also think that our people are stupid enough to believe their quite bizarre and unbelievable fairy tale.

The IPOB media and publicity secretary reiterated that “there is no such thing as splinter groups or factions within our great mass movement” adding that the so called factions are products of “outlandish propaganda mounted by the security agencies as a last resort because all other strategies including, but not limited to killing us in cold blood has failed to stop our march across the Red Sea.”

According to him, the Nigerian authorities “have failed and will continue to fail in (their) attempts to weaken or dampen our resolve as our march to total freedom is irrevocable and unstoppable”

He said that the resoluteness of IPOB members in pursuing their cause for Biafra self determination had made it a very hard nut for the security agencies to crack, assuring that the IPOB fold is close knit and could not be infiltrated.

The IPOB family is intact and marching on to glory. As we receive awards from left, right and centre, I plead with our brothers and sisters to remain resolute and totally ignore the saboteurs, their collaborators and Rochas plot to sow seeds of doubt in our minds,” he said.

He further added that the devices of the authorities cause divisions in IPOB “clearly shows that the peaceful and non-violent approach we are using has succeeded in throwing the enemy camp into disarray’.

As they stagger in utter confusion, I plead with our brethren to remain resolute as freedom is nearer now more than yesterday. I remain yours faithfully in the struggle,” Powerful said.

IPOB Splinter Group Names New Leader, List Eminent Persons To Negotiate With FG

The leadership of the new pro Biafra group, the Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has named a new leader for the organization and listed eminent personalities who are expected to dialogue with the Nigerian government over the agitation for an independent state of Biafra.

In a statement signed by its National Director of Publicity, Ikemba Biafra, RE-IPOB described the new leader,Jonathan Kurubo from hails from Bayelsa state as a true son of Biafra who believes in the cause and dignity ofthe marginalized people of the old Eastern region.

It added that Kurubo who is a graduate of international Universities with versatile knowledge of International relations, peace and conflict resolution as well as strategic studies, will pilot the affairs of the RE-IPOB until Biafra is actualized or the Nigerian government demonstrates its sincerity to fully re-integrate the people of Biafran through negotiations.

While calling on the people of Biafra living in the old Eastern region and in Diaspora, to support the new leader, RE-IPOB unveiled a list of eminent personalities and elders of Biafra who are expected to lead its negotiation with the Nigerian government. The list include; Dr Arthur Nwankwo, Dr kenneth Opigo, Dr. Okey Emordi, Barr. Uche Okwukwu, Obong Victor Attah, Prof Nwankwo Nwaezeigwe, Chief Bassey Akpan, Prof Mrs Uche Azikiwe, Prof Wole Soyinka, Uchenna Madu, Prof Jerry Gana, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, representative of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, representative of Umuada Igbo, and Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma who is expected to lead the delegation.

“We warn that RE-IPOB is not negotiating out of fear. Our position is not out of cowardice, we want peace. Butthe federal government should return our goodwill and readiness for talks with honesty and sincerity. Nnamdi Kanu should henceforth desist from issuing any statement on behalf of Biafra in his own interest,” the statement read.

The group urged security agents to stop molesting or killing members of RE-IPOB as its security arm,Ogbunigwe, has been set up to protect Biafra people.

IPOB Raises Alarm Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Life In Kuje Prison

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has raised an alarm over Nnamdi Kanu’s life in Kuje Prison.

The IPOB in a statement on Monday signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, accused the Federal Government of trying to kill Kanu in prison.

The group disclosed that Kanu’s room in Kuje Prison was teargased on Monday and gun shots fired in his direction.

According to IPOB, the federal government and the DSS, through their prison authority and warders in charge of Kuje prisons have perfected arrangements to snuff the life out of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and those with him in the prison in disguise of separating the inmates who were having misunderstanding with fellow inmates.”

“The federal government and security agents through their prison waders orchestrated violence in the prison in order to have excuses to eliminate Mazi Nnamdi kanu.

“The orchestrated violence by the federal government and DSS through the prison authority to be executed by prison warders started shooting sporadically towards the doors and windows where our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and two other IPOB members were detained.

“The prison warders went to search some prison inmates very far from where Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and two others were kept all of a sudden they started shooting life bullets towards the direction where our leader was kept, the cannon teargas was thrown inside the room he stays.

“Right now, we don’t know the condition of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others detained alongside with him.

“We are calling on the international community, the United Nations, UN, the African Union AU, lovers of freedom, Amnesty International, AI, Human Rights Watch/NGO’s and the well meaning Nigerians who understand the meaning of self determination to come to our rescue because right now we don’t know the condition of our leader.”

IPOB: Another Faction Emerges, Sacks Kanu

The crisis rocking the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), took a new turn yesterday as another faction which goes by the name Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra (RE-IPOB) emerged.
Two days ago, The Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIPOB) emerged and threatened to burn the Biafra flag publicly on October
Spokesman for the new group, Ikemba Biafra, disclosed that it has sacked the IPOB led by the detained Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and the Chima Philip Effiong Osuji-led TRIPOB,  claiming that both groups no longer have the right to speak for Biafra.
It alleged that Kanu has lost touch with realities of Biafra while TRIPOB has nothing to offer.
While promising to disclose their leader on Monday, August 29, 2016, it advised all pro-Biafran agitators to remain peaceful. It also warned security agents to stop molesting Biafra activists.
“Both IPOB and TRIPOB have been sacked; they should no longer speak for the Biafran people. They are the same outfit and have nothing to offer Biafra,” the spokesman said. “We warn that if Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB  and the so-called TRIPOB  continue their antics, RE-IPOB will be forced to make public the sponsors of the two groups. RE-IPOB will not accede to the burning of the Biafran flag as the sacked TRIPOB planned. The Biafran flag is sacred to Biafrans.”
The statement added, however, that RE-IPOB is open to dialogue if the Nigerian government is sincere about ending the protracted agitations for an independent state of Biafra, and warned that the group would not tolerate any insincerity from the government.
“If the Federal Government is sincere in its dialogue with RE-IPOB, then the Biafran flag can be exchanged with the Nigerian flag in the presence of President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Security Adviser, Director of State Security and the Elders of Biafra. If the dialogue is fruitful; then a peace treaty and a ‘no victor no vanquished tree’ will be planted at Gakem where the first shot of the Nigerian Civil war started and at Amichi, Nnewi where the formal cessation of hostilities of the war began.”
Meanwhile, IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, said the group is intact, strong and determined to continue with the struggle for the restoration of state of Biafra.

IPOB: Buhari Should Dialogue With Nnamdi Kanu – Ohanaeze Youths

OHANAEZE Youths Council has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately begin direct negotiation with the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB], Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with a view to releasing him.
Kanu is facing treasonable charges in an Abuja High Court and is being detained at the Kuje Prisons. Ohanaeze Youths Council urged the president to use the opportunity of the reported on-going negotiation between some Niger Delta groups and a representative of the Federal Government and talk with Kanu to free him. Kanu himself had last week through his lawyers said that he was open for dialogue with the government for a political resolution of the matter.
According to the National President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Federal Government should not allow this window of peace talk to pass it by. “This is a much-awaited opportunity which should be utilized to end the bitterness against the Federal Government by people of the South-East. “We call on President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow this golden opportunity slip off his hands. “It is our firm belief that Buhari will engrave his name as a hero of democracy if he utilized this opportunity to free Nnamdi Kanu,” Ohaneze Youths said. Isiguzoro, however, suggested that Kanu himself should be allowed to lead such a negotiation. “For the dialogue to be genuine and fruitful, Kanu should lead the IPOB delegation.
Nobody or group should negotiate on his behalf; this is to avoid a situation where the government will end up wasting time and resources. “If the government succeeds in this regard, it would no doubt endear it to Ndigbo and help in healing so many wounds.” Kanu’s lawyers advised to seek approval first Meantime, the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday, charged lawyers to the detained Director of Radio Biafra,Nnamdi Kanu, to seek approval from him first before dabbling into any negotiation for his release with the Federal Government.
MASSOB said it aligned with Kanu’s stance that, ”he’d rather die, than jettison the struggle for Biafra” after the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, had given the Federal Government, last week, conditions to end agitations in the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones, wherein MEND, urged Kanu to renounce Biafra to regain his freedom. Kanu, who was arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS, upon arrival from the United Kingdom, has been in detention since October 14, last year, for alleged treasonable felony.
But frowning at the remarks from Kanu’s lawyers, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and Amobi Nzelu, indicating that their client was not aversed to negotiations for his release, MASSOB leader, Uchenna Madu, in a statement to newsmen in Enugu, stated that, ”MASSOB supports the position of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as the leader of IPOB. “Approval for negotiation must be obtained first. MASSOB as a sister organization will always support every positive move that will effect the release of our Comrade, Nnamdi Kanu.
We will not accept any confusing steps which some groups even the defense counsels are making. “IPOB has quickly condemned the position of Kanu’s lawyers. We will never relent or succumb on the agitation for Biafra. We shall continue to forge ahead with the spirit of consistency and commitment in accord with other pro-Biafra groups. Nigeria should be tired and ashamed of Kanu’s continued detention”.
IPOB names released members In another development, IPOB, has reeled out names of their members who were granted bail at Umuahia Chief Magistrate’s Court last week, on the orders of the Federal Government, through the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF.
Among those granted bail, according to a statement signed by Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, are John Onyebuchi ‘M’ aged 52; Joseph Okorie ‘M’ aged 25; Ikechukwu Obi ‘M’ aged 35; Ifeanyi Okike ‘M’ aged 65; Ani Chimezie ‘M’ aged 62; Emeka Ezeugo ‘M’ aged 30 and Chibuzo Okpara ‘F’ aged 40?. “Others are Donatus Okeke ‘M’ aged 36; Okechukwu Nnebennum ‘M’ aged 34; Jude Aniche ‘M’ aged 48; Amos Nkemjika Ezekiel ‘M’ aged 43; Ngozi Onuora ‘F’ aged 30; Goodness Emeka ‘F’ aged 25; Nene Ekwueme ‘F’ aged 52; Amarachi Chukwu ‘F’ aged 22; Oluchukwu Bekee ‘F’ aged 48; Igwechukwu Ebuka ‘M’ aged 26; Okwudili Okafor ‘M’ aged 35; Nnadike Obasi ‘M’ aged 29 and Monday Ibejii ‘M’ aged 25.”
In the statement, Powerful noted that of these 20 detainees, 19 were released by the Umuahia Chief Magistrate Court on Thursday, August 11, while one of them was released before now with the efforts made by his family members, adding that they had all been given at the weekend. It would be recalled that the federal government, through the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF had ordered the court to release the detained IPOB members who were arrested inside Aba High School, on February 9, this year during their prayer rally and charged to court.

“I Am Not Opposed To Negotiation, I Want To Go Home” – Nnamdi Kanu

Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, in Abuja on Friday said he was willing to enter into negotiation with the Federal Government to secure his release and end the political crisis that has continued to trail his continued incarceration.

He also denied claims that he was working with some militant groups in the Niger Delta region, including the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta and Niger Delta Avengers.

Speaking through his lawyers, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and Amobi Nzelu, at a press briefing, Kanu said he was not opposed to negotiation to secure his freedom from detention which he described as “politically motivated and orchestrated.”

The lawyers who, addressed a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, said such negotiations could only take place after he is released from incarceration where he had been for over a year.

According to them, it is impossible for just one individual to commit treasonable felony as Mr Kanu is accused by the Federal Government.

The lawyers, Mr Amobi Nzelu and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, made it clear that he was not part of the bargaining chip of neither the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) nor the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), who have both said he should be released, as part of their own negotiations with the federal government.

Mend has no implied, direct or express authority of Nnamdi Kanu to represent him or IPOB in any purported negotiation going on between mend and the federal government,” the lawyers stated.

The self-acclaimed leader of the IPOB and two others are standing trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count charge of treasonable felony, managing unlawful society and concealing goods.

At the last hearing, the lead prosecution counsel was absent in court, and the case was adjourned to September 26 – 29, 2016.

Jubilation In Onitsha As FG Releases Detained IPOB Members

There was wild jubilation in the commercial town of Onitsha on Thursday after the federal government, through the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, released all members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who have been in detention.

They were earlier arrested by various security agencies in Aba, Abia state, during their prayer rally in February.
A statement issued to newsmen Thursday in Onitsha, by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary,
Emma Powerful confirmed that their members had been released.

He said all IPOB members worldwide under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of Radio Biafra were commending the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF and all those who had common sense to understand that all those arrested in Aba must be released.

Powerful described the freedom of their members as a good omen for the birth of Biafra.

Militants Demand Release Of IPOB Leaders As Condition To Free Liberian Ship

A Niger Delta militant group, the Concerned Militant Leaders (CML), has demanded the release of detained leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as the only condition for the release of the ship flying Liberian flag, which was attacked and seized along Bakassi Peninsula on Nigerian waterways.

The group has also disclosed that its next target of attack would be Frontier Oil in Eket, Akwa Ibom State. The vessel was reportedly heading to the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Bonny, Rivers State, before it was intercepted by the militants.

Spokesperson of the CML, General Ben, disclosed that they seized the ship as part of their grievances against the Federal Government and as a means of crippling the economy.

Ben, in a statement on Monday evening, said they were yet to ascertain the number of crew members on-board the vessel, adding that they had every other information about the ship.

The vessel has the following details (excluding crew on-board), MMSI: 636015354; IMO: 9113551; gross tonnage: 25,202; country flag, Liberia; crude oil tanker and pilot, Captain Marcus,” he said.

The group ruled out any intention to dialogue with the Federal Government anywhere, unless it is around the Atlantic Ocean, which is their area of control.

The spokesperson stated that CML had not decided on what to do with the vessel and crew members yet, but would inform the Federal Government of their intention today, Wednesday, July 27.

He warned that no militant group should dialogue with the Federal Government until it addressed the agitation of the Niger Delta agitators, particularly the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which CML, in particular, is concerned about.

This is the worst government we have had since this democratic dispensation. People are suffering and dying due to hardship and government does not want to listen to the grievances of our people.”

There is no time again for negotiation with any government, and no group even the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) should not do that. Government should wait for us and expect more pipeline attack,” they said.

Police Nab 13 Suspected IPOB Members In Enugu

No fewer than 13 suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were on Monday arrested by the Police for alleged unlawful protest in Enugu.

The Enugu Police spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspects were arrested on Obiagu Road in the Coal City, while commemorating `Biafran fallen heroes and heroines of the 1967 -1970 civil war’.

He said they were apprehended with flags of Biafra.

Amaraizu said the command had embarked on a surveillance of the state following reports of planned protests.

He urged members of the public to report any form of illegal assemblies in their areas.

Alleged Killings Of Herdsmen: Group Threatens To Drag IPOB To ICC

The Conference of Minority Tribes of Nigeria (CMTN), has said it will drag the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague following the alleged killings of some Fulani herdsmen in Abia State.

The group which condemned the killings of the northerners, described it as a crime against humanity. Recall that bikerings have followed the allegations by the Department of State Services, DSS, Abuja Headquarters, that members of IPOB killed some Fulani herdsmen in Abia State, and dumped them in gutters.

But this allegation, the separatist group, other groups, as well as the Abia State government, has denied, describing it as a lie from the pit of hell. In separate press statements, they condemned the DSS, accusing the nation’s secrete police of wanting to spark another ethnic pogrom in Nigeria.

However, addressing a press conference on Monday, in Abuja, Secretary General of CMTN, Comrade Samson Babalola said these alleged killings marked a new low in what had been cordial relations between ethnic nationalities in Nigeria that have always accepted each other as family. He said other ethnic groups strongly condemned government forces when it clamped down on IPOB’ protests and had even planned sympathy marches in support of IPOB and its leaders that are being detained.

Biafra Will Be Actualised Using International Law – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reiterated its resolve to pursue the actualisation of the independent state of Biafra using international law.
A statement by the Spokesperson of the pro-Biafra group, Emma Powerful said Biafra had been in existence before the coming of British colonial masters, adding that it has the right to pursue its actualization even now.

The statement reads, “We will pursue for the actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra using the International law, many other great nations in time past tolled the same part, a perfect example of this is the United Kingdom where the Scots, Welsh, Irish and the Anglo-Saxons maintain their indigenous identities as different people but of the British citizenship. In the same way, the indigenous people of Biafra are Nigeria by citizenship but Biafra by indigenous identity,”
“The Ancient Map of Africa in 1662 showed the three kingdoms in West Africa from where the new country called Nigeria was created by the colonial masters. The three kingdoms were as follows: The kingdom of Zamfara in the North, Kingdom of Biafra from the East: and the kingdom of Benin in the West.

“These three kingdoms existed on the map of Africa for more than 500 years before Nigeria was created in 1914.

”The kingdoms of Biafra and Benin shared common boundaries and had the Atlantic Ocean in the South with direct access to the sea, through their bays known as Bight of Biafra and Bight of Benin.”

Emeka Anyaoku Rejects Pro-Biafran Group, IPOB’s Appointment

A former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, has rejected his nomination as one of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra’s representatives to negotiate or discuss on behalf of the group.

IPOB had on Wednesday listed Anyaoku as one of the “credible Igbo elders” that would represent it in “negotiations” and “discussions”.

Also on the list are former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme; Prof. Ben Nwabueze; the Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Diocese, Archbishop Anthony Obinna; a Biafran civil war army commander, Alex
Madiebo; and an activist, Dr. Arthur Nwankwo.

But in an email exchange with one of our correspondents, Anyaoku, who said he had yet to be contacted by the Pro-Biafra group, stated that he would not accept the appointment.

He said, “I have not been approached nor would I be willing to undertake such an assignment in the present circumstances.’’

In a statement signed by its spokesmen, Emma Mmezu and Clifford Iroanya, IPOB said the selection of Ekwueme, Anyaoku and the others came on the heels of its rejection of the alleged meeting between the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and a United States of America delegation in Enugu.

In the statement entitled, ‘Beware of impostors’, the group dissociated itself from any discussions or negotiations entered into on its behalf by Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

IPOB alleged that the Ohanaeze leaders claimed they were speaking on its behalf at the alleged meeting with the US officials, who were said to be on a fact-finding mission.

The statement read in part, “We do not deal with nor condone the idea of washed- out political contractors and compromised merchants of misery speaking for Biafrans.

“We value our reputation as IPOB and would like to warn that anybody dealing with any group that is not IPOB under the supreme command of Nnamdi Kanu (our detained leader) is engaging in an exercise in futility.

“Our focus now is to ensure the release of our leader first before we negotiate with anyone.

“We would view anyone discussing or attempting to cut a deal without the knowledge of the leadership of IPOB as an enemy of the people.

“IPOB has chosen Dr Arthur Nwankwo, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Archbishop Anthony Obinna, Gen. Alex Maduebo, Prof. Ben Nwabueze and Chief Emeka Anyaoku as credible elders, who will speak the truth without being easily compromised.”

IGP Warns Biafra Agitators, IPOB Against Use Of Firearms

Following media reports credited to members of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), threatening to carry arms in self defence against the Nigerian nation, Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has warned pro-Biafra agitators to reconsider their stand on bearing of arms or face the wrath of the extant laws concerning firearms.

Arase also warned that anybody who dares security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities, and make life difficult for law abiding citizens, will face dare consequences of their actions.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, the IGP further cautioned “the IPOB members to follow appropriate avenues in ventilating their grievances as anybody who steps out of bounds will be decisively dealt with.

“The IPOB are advised to be guided in respect of the above as the Police Force is poised to uphold the existing restriction over the use of firearms.

IPOB, MASSOB Deny Alleged Seizure Of Merchant Ship By Members

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday, denied alleged involvement in the seizing and threat to blowing up a merchant ship carrying foreigners.

IPOB Media and Publicity Officer, Mr. Emma Powerful said IPOB is a non violent group with responsible men in the society in Nigeria and in diaspora as members and therefore, cannot involve in any violent activity that may possibly harm or take the life of anybody from within and outside Nigeria.

He said: “Many people are sympathetic to the Biafran actualization cause because of the treatment meted to the entire Biafran land comprising the former Eastern Region. Many groups are also rising up to speak against the treatment meted to the IPOB leader and Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu who at present is being incarcerated in Kuje prison, and they can use any style to make their demand felt by the Federal Government but no IPOB member has a hand in it.”

It will be recalled that an online medium had yesterday, reported that Biafra agitators have allegedly hijacked a merchant ship and threatened to blow it up with its foreign crew if government authorities do not release its detained leader agitating for a breakaway state of Biafra.

The medium claimed that a Defence Ministry source has allegedly confirmed that the hijacking occurred on Friday and called it “an act of sabotage.” The publication did not mention the name of the ship or where it happened.

The publication also alleged that the Defence Ministry source spoke on condition of anonymity because the issue is sensitive, saying the hijackers have given the government 31 days to free Kanu or they will blow up the ship along with its crew.

But the leader of MASSOB, Mr. Uchenna Madu, said that the group has no hand in the alleged hijacking of any merchant ship or any threat to blow up the alleged ship, because they are non violent and have no weapon to hold any ship hostage, let alone seizing and threatening to blow it with its passengers.

He said: “I am aware that a militant group sometime gave the Federal Government twenty one-day ultimatum to release Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, failing which they threatened that they will do what will surprise the Nigerian government. May be it is the group, I do not even remember their name but I heard or read about that threat.

“You know that a lot of groups are springing up from the old Eastern Region to agitate for the actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra and as far as they are fighting for Biafra, we cannot disown them, but they have their own style which I think the Federal Government of Nigeria understands easily. If you are not violent, they will not understand and they will ignore you. So, we support the group if that is what they have actually done.

“We in MASSOB are not involved in violence, that is why they do not take us serious. They believe we are illiterate job seekers that are frustrated in life and decided to demand for Biafra. They think that our own is to demonstrate peacefully and they will shoot and kill us and go into jubilation that they have dealt with us, but now, they have seen their match. We support the people if they have actually done that.”

He further stated that “any method applied by any Biafra agitating group to ensure that the Federal Government of Nigeria respects its law and court orders is approved by MASSOB, but we in MASSOB have chosen the path of non-violence and we will maintain it until Biafra is achieved.

MASSOB has also denied reports that the group is divided between the Ralph Uwazuruike and Uchenna Madu factions, battling for supremacy.

Addressing newsmen in Aba, Abia State, Leader of MASSOB, Chief Solomon Chukwu, who spoke through the organization’s National Director of Information, Sunny Okerefaor said that the group was planning to invade MASSOB headquarters in Okwe, Onuimo council area of Imo State to sack the Uchenna Madu faction.

He added that MASSOB cannot allow itself to be distracted by people he described as expelled members who are determined to sabotage Biafra.

According to him, “Ojukwu Memorial Library is our 5th headquarter. We started from Lagos to Aba to Owerri and Okwe and now back to Owerri. Okwe is MASSOB headquarters; it belongs to MASSOB. It has never been in contention. There are dissidents in every organization. You can observe it in every agitation. Uchenna Madu was our Director of Information, but he was expelled for anti-MASSOB activities. Anybody not authorized by MASSOB founder, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is fake. The only MASSOB we have is the one headed by Chief Uwazuruike and it has been properly handed over to me. These are people being sponsored by the politicians.

“Uchenna Madu and other expelled members are just using MASSOB to collect money from politicians. Check who are behind the violence during pro-Biafra protests in Aba, Port Harcourt, Asaba and Onitsha? This tells you that they are not MASSOB members. Very soon, I will call Uchenna Madu to order. Whatever they are doing, we won’t fight them because we are non violent. But at the appropriate time, the world will know they are not our members.”

He disclosed that over 40 groups are fighting for the actualization of an independent state of Biafra, with MASSOB as the parent body and urged the Federal Government to grant unconditional release to the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Seizure not linked to Nigerian group —Defence HQ

Meantime, military authorities in Nigeria have debunked reports in foreign media that Nigerian militant group with sympathy to Biafra and IPOB hijacked a ship and are demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government before the ship will be released.

Speaking  on the development, Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig-General Rabe Abubakar said: “It is not true. The story about the hijack has happened but not within our waters and it is not under any particular group.

“But it (ship) is currently being guarded by Benin Republic Navy. The name of the Ship is MT Leondias (9279927), a tanker. The ship is presently in Benin waters, about 7.5 nautical miles, off Cotonou Port under the watch of the Benin Republic Navy.”

Biafran Passport Not Valid Or Recognised – US, UK

The governments of the United States and the United Kingdom have said they do not recognise the passports being issued by the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra.

The National Director of Information, MASSOB, Sunny Okereafor, had said two weeks ago that the passport was valid worldwide, adding that the travel document costs N5,000 while its renewal costs N2,000.

He had said, “I assure you that the Biafran passport is valid. Except Nigeria, other countries of the world accept Biafran passport and allow our citizens to travel with it. In Europe, North and South America, Biafran passport is accepted. Nigeria is the only country that seizes Biafran passport. Go to neighbouring Ghana here, they will stamp the passport for you. Don’t be confused by the propaganda of the Nigerian government that there is nothing like Biafra passport.

“MASSOB appeals to Biafran citizens to procure their passport and use it to travel. If you doubt me, get a Nigerian passport while I have my Biafran passport; when we get to Europe, you will see who they will welcome than the other. Many people with the Nigerian passport have been repatriated, but have you heard of anybody with Biafran passport receiving such ill-treatment?”

However, our correspondent sent an email to the American consulate in Lagos to inquire from the US regarding the claim of MASSOB.

In his response, the Deputy Public Affairs Officer at the consulate, Frank Sellin, said, “The United States does not consider passports purporting to be from a Biafra entity to be a valid legal document for purposes of visa issuance.”

A similar response from the British Government was sent to The PUNCH via email.

The UK recalled that it did not support the disintegration of Nigeria during the 1967 Biafran War and had not changed its stance 49 years after.

A statement by the Press and Public Affairs Officer, British High Commission, Abuja, Mr. Joe Abuku, read in part, “The answer is unequivocally ‘no’. The UK does not recognise the so-called Biafran passport.

“The position of the UK Government during the Biafran War is a matter of historical record. The UK Government’s position, which reflected the Charter of the Organisation of African Unity, was to recognise the borders laid down at independence.

“The Biafran War caused great suffering and the UK supported the reconciliation work that followed the conflict. The UK supports the territorial integrity of Nigeria and the Nigerian Government’s commitment to work for a secure and prosperous Nigeria for all Nigerians.”

IPOB Raises Alarm Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Deteriorating Health

Following the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu by the Department of State Services, DSS, the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, has called for the immediate release of its leader, Kanu, due to his worsening health condition.

The Media and Publicity Officer of the group, Emma Power, while speaking with journalist yesterday in Nnewi, Anambra State, alleged that the Federal Government through the DSS is plotting to systematically kill Kanu while in detention by denying him access to doctors and torturing him on a daily basis.

Power said, “Information from a reliable DSS source revealed that the Federal Government is also planning to transfer Mr. Kanu to a particular cell in the country where members of Boko Haram are detained, and it is their plan to kill him there,”

He disclosed that the group had written the United Nations, the African Union, AU, United States of America, Russia, France, Israel, Britain and Amnesty International, including other relevant world bodies and organizations about the life threatening treatment being meted out to its leader by operatives of the DSS.

The group wondered why the Nigerian government would refuse a detainee access to medical attention especially for somebody that had been granted bail by two courts of competent jurisdiction in the country.

IPOB, while calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to order the immediate release of its leader so as to allow him see his doctors, warned that “if anything happens to him, Nigeria will never know peace.

According to the group’s spokesman, “President Buhari and DSS will have no defence if they allow Mr. Kanu to die in the hands of DSS, more so when two competent courts of jurisdiction have granted him bail. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. A word is enough for the wise. Nobody is sure of his health condition now, and therefore, Kanu should be released and allowed to see his doctors.

Apology To Buhari: Kanu’s Family, Lawyer, IPOB, Dismiss Report As Big Lie

The father of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu autonomous community, His Royal Majesty Eze Israel Kanu has dismissed the report that his son has apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari for calling him a terrorist and a pedophile. Also, Mr. Vincent Obetta, the lawyer to the detained IPOB leader, on Wednesday, said it was impossible that the Radio Biafra director tendered an apology to President Buhari.

The IPOB on the other hand on Wednesday also refuted media reports that its detained leader, and director of its radio had apologised to President Buhari. Kanu’s father described the alleged apology as the handiwork of the enemies of the struggles for Biafran emancipation, saying that his son has never regretted his actions for the liberation of his marginalized people. Eze Kanu said this in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Wednesday, adding that his son has no reason to apoligise to anybody as he was fighting a just cause and has not has violated any law.

The monarch added that he was not surprised at such fabrications and reiterated his son’s resolve to not give up the fight for a sovereign state of Biafra particularly as it was the wish of the people. He restated his unwavering support for his son and advised those in authority to stop trying to project him in bad light through the internet even as he warned media houses against collaborating with the Federal Government to portray his son in a bad light and ultimately frustrate the agitation for independent Biafra.

He maintained that such efforts will fail. The traditional ruler used the opportunity to renew his appeal to President Buhari to free his son, insisting that his son has done nothing to warrant his unlawful detention even against the judgments of courts of competent jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Mr. Vincent Obetta, lawyer to the IPOB leader, while denying that Kanu apologised to President Buhari, said reports of the IPOB leader’s apology were proof that government was trying to use all instruments at its disposal to “puncture” the campaign for the actualization of Biafra. “The alleged apology is not true. The government is using every instrument to puncture what we are doing,” he said.

Similarly, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra [IPOB] has refuted media reports that its detained leader, and director of its radio had apologised to President Buhari for allegedly referring to him as a terrorist. IPOB in a press statement issued in Umuahia, dismissed the media report as a blatant lie and cheap propaganda by its sponsors to create the wrong impression that Kanu is backing out of the Biafran project. The statement which was signed by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, accused the Federal Government of planting the said report to dampen the morals of Kanu’s followers and other Biafran agitators.

The IPOB spokesman said: “It is an insult to the entire Biafran Republic for anyone to expect any apology from Kanu over his activities towards facilitating Biafra’s autonomy”. The group also accused the media outfit which carried the said report of serving as a propaganda machinery of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to cause disaffection among Biafrans.

Nnamdi Kanu Never Apologised To Buhari – MASSOB, IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has described as blatant lies, the claim that its incarcerated leader and founder of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdui Kanu has expressed regrets and apologized to President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders for his alleged uncomplimentary remarks and statements against them to facilitate his release.

In a statement signed by IPOB National Coordinator Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe and Media and Publicity officer, comrade Emma Powerful, titled Nnamdi Kanu never apologized for his release, IPOB said it totally dismissed the publication, describing it as “the machinations of the Directorate of State Security, DSS to save its face having been disgraced by the court with granting of Kanu bail.

Also the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has described as complete false, calculated and systematic attempt by agents of Federal Government to discredit IPOB and MASSOB with the claim that Nnamdi Kanu has apologized for his comments against some Nigerians.

In a statement by MASSOB leader Mr. Uchenna Madu, it said the news that Nnamdi Kanu has apologized to President Buhari is complete false information and a calculated and systematic attempt by agents of the Federal government to discredit, disorganize and frustrate the agitation for actualization of Biafran State.

“The publication was totally false and should be ignored by the general public, no amount of intimidation, harassment, torture, killings, arrest and blackmail can make Kanu apologize for anything he said, nothing will ever make us to stop the agitation for the actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra,” he said.

According to IPOB, “DSS is not sincere, if they have respect for the constitution of Nigeria, they would have released Kanu as directed by the courts, instead, they are looking for new charges which they will use to jail him, but they will fail again, and they have discovered that they will not make any progress in their quest to jail Kanu, they are now looking for soft landing to chicken out of the case with the claim that Kanu is apologizing, a claim that does not hold water,” said IPOB.

IPOB urged the media to beware of the false claims by DSS, saying that “Kanu is not disturbed in any way for his long incarceration, his spirit is very high and he will be received like a hero he is, any day they are tired of holding him and decides to release him”.

“Kanu is in detention for us, we are here for him. DSS should stop embarrassing itself with the false information they are churning out to the public. If they are honest in what they are claiming about Kanu’s apology, they should publish the copy of the said apology as an advert in the newspapers let the world see, if they say they culled it from the statement he wrote in DSS detention, how then did it become an apology to people,” said IPOB.

Madu in his statement, further stated that “agitation for the actualization of Biafra has gained international prominence and sympathy even before Nnamdi Kanu arrest and detention, and his current detention has further strengthened the agitation, so this latest move and campaign of calumny by enemies and oppressors of Biafrans is a sign that they are jittery, frustrated and are afraid of the fast rising and global acceptance Biafrans struggle for actualization of state of Biafra.

“MASSOB and IPOB shall never be discouraged, frustrated, disorganized, dislocated or relent on the non violent Biafran actualization because of this false statement credited to Nnamdi Kanu. Mazi Kanu as a true Biafran can never compromise the integrity, confidence and trust of Biafra freedom fighters no matter the condition, subjection or oppression by DSS and Nigerian government.

“This Federal government latest move to discredit IPOB and MASSOB has propelled us to redouble our efforts and strategies on Biafra agitation; we shall intensify our non violence approach as MASSOB and IPOB march ahead for Biafra actualization,” he said.

5 Killed, 7 Injured As IPOB, MASSOB Clash With JTF In Onitsha

Five persons were, yesterday, shot dead at the Niger Bridge Head, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries when members of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, and Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, clashed with Joint Task Force, JTF, comprising the  Army and the Police, which mounted road block at the Niger Head Bridge.

Four of the victims shot dead were members of both IPOB and MASSOB, while one person is said to be a soldier, who was grabbed by the  mob, angry with the way soldiers opened fire on the jubilating crowd that included non pro-Biafra agitators, and fell four of them before they ran for their lives, leaving the victims behind.

All the markets around the Niger Bridge Head, including the Bridge Head Market, Onitsha Patent and Propitiatory Medicine Dealers Market (Ogbo Ogwu Market) and other markets located around the bridge, including Abada Market were quickly shut down, following sporadic shooting by the military to scare the jubilant crowd away.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday,  ordered the Department of State Service, DSS, to immediately release  the detained  leader of IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

The court directed that Kanu, who had been in detention since October 17,  should be released “unconditionally.”

Ruling on the fundamental rights suit by Kanu, the trial judge, Justice Ademola Adeniyi, said there was no basis for the applicant to remain in custody since there was currently no charge pending against him.

The court order came barely 24 hours after an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Wuse Zone 2, struck out a one-count  charge the Federal Government preferred against the IPOB leader.

Meanwhile, according to an eye-witness at the Onitsha Head Bridge, who was coming from Asaba end of the bridge, the Biafra agitators were said to be marching on the road near the River Niger Bridge, chanting solidarity songs in jubilation for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, and were accosted by the soldiers, who ordered them to go back, and disagreements ensued before the soldiers allegedly opened fire on them.

Another version of the story had it that, the pro-Biafra agitators and those sympathetic to their cause, were jubilating, singing and dancing near the bridge and in annoyance, the soldiers, who had been guiding the bridge since the last shooting, during which unarmed nine protesters were killed and 18 others  injured,  opened fire on them, gunning down four.

We condemn the stupidity, sabotage statement of Ralph Uwazuruike that IPOB, MASSOB introduced violence in Biafra struggle.

Uwazuruike Apologises To The North, Says Biafra Protests Politically Motivated

Leader of the Movement for the Actualization of Biafra (MASSOB) Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, yesterday apologised to people of the South-east and northerners living in the region over the recent killings and burning of mosque.
Protest by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) last week, led to killing of about five people and destruction of property in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Addressing newsmen in Owerri, Imo State, Uwazuruike disassociated members of MASSOB from the protest.
He said the group was against violence and that it was the first to speak about Biafra. Uwazuruike described the protest in the zone as politically motivated, adding that those involved “were expelled
from the group because of their reckless action and dubious character”.
He said: “We are apologizing to people of the South-east and Hausas in the region, who were affected by the protest. What they have done is violent and may even endanger the lives of many Igbos in the North”.
Uwazuruike added, “During the protest, shops were closed down and houses were burnt. That behaviour has even caused people to dislike the struggle”.
He flayed Nnamdi Kanu, for using the Biafra radio station to preach hate messages against the Nigerian government.
“Why must heaven fall because Nnamdi Kanu was arrested? What happened to Benjamin Oneuka who has been in prison because of Biafra?” he said.
He also tackled the Department of Security Service for “refusing to release the Nnamdi Kanu after the Federal High Court granted him bail”.

Biafra: Clergy Women Caution MASSOB, IPOB

Nigerian Women in Clergy has cautioned pro-Biafran groups, Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to suspend their street protests in the interest of peace.

The clergy women under the leadership of Prophetess Nonnie Robberson had in their message to the group emphasised on the importance of dialogue against violent protest that will further lead to deaths and destruction of property in the South East.

A statement issued on behalf of the group by its President, Prophetess Nonnie Robberson, said violent agitation that led to Biafran war was to the disadvantage of all, asserting that victims of the war who managed to survive have continued to tell their horrible stories. She said Nigeria as country would have gone beyond the level it finds itself today, if not for the setback of the war.

Ohaneze-Biafra Nonnie who advised the group to view dialogue as a better option said, “I was conceived and born during the Biafran war, and it hurts me so much when I recall the pain my mother went through during the period. Reviving this agitation through street protests will further re-awaken the scars most of us have decided to leave behind; hence it’s time to shield the sword.

“Even though the demand for self- determination appears to be within the United Nations charter provisions, the way we go about it will either make or mar our good intention. I will advise that we change our approach as we make our demands. We must not leave the substance or rather, the reason for the protest. We must go back to why we are demanding for self-determination. If the government is ready and willing to address those problems such as unemployment, equal representation, under-development and other sundry issues, then Biafra will have no reason to break away or ask further questions.

Nonnie further said that, ” It’s however difficult to achieve all these by merely invading the streets in protest. It’s difficult to achieve any reasonable result through violent protests. The group must sit with the authorities and place their demands. The question clergy women are asking is, ‘ how does a government listen to a group on the street?’ How does a government call them for dialogue if they resort to insult, violence and intimidation? They must neutralize this radical approach for a more conservative one. By doing so, the government can then listen to them. They must not look as though they have come to attack or overthrow a government. They must be peaceful in placing their demands as they are our children. As women, we are generally known to be peaceful in all we do, and as mothers, clergy women believe that what MASSOB and IPOB seek cannot be found on the street,” Nonnie said.

The group, while calling on the President to order the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the alleged Director of Radio Biafra, equally advised the government to look beyond the street protest and hasten up to address the actual reason for the struggle. “The struggle which is mainly for justice, equality, empowerment, fairness, women and youths emancipation must be truly addressed by the government. We urge the government to call these groups for negotiation instead of sending the police and the army after them as force and aggression do not achieve peace,” She said.

She said government must look inward to address the issue of unemployment as majority of Nigerian youths on the streets were doing so because they are jobless. She called for a more inclusive government where everybody is given equal opportunity, saying, more than 90% of our graduate Youths have no Jobs.

“If these youths are properly engaged, the issue of street protest in the country will become a thing of the past. The problem is that majority of our youths are unemployed and unengaged and are always willing to be engaged on the street. Our youths are angry and are waiting for any opportunity to express their anger.

“We at the Nigerian Women in Clergy believe that the issue is really not about Biafra and Nigeria going their separate ways, it’s rather about unemployment, hardship, lack of basic infrastructure, hunger, segregation, exclusiveness, and a host of others. With President Buhari’s change agenda; he must endeavour to form a more inclusive government for all in order to enjoy unimaginable support from Nigerians.”

Nonnie ended by saying that the women were more interested in the unity and progress of Nigeria for the benefit of all, and were ready to offer their motherly advice any time occasion warrants such

The leader of the Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, yesterday, encouraged members of the movement to remain steadfast and focused in the revolutionary struggle, saying that the non-violent methods adopted by MASSOB had become discomforting to northern socio-cultural group, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and the Nigerian military.

Uwazuruike said there was no going back in his bid to actualize Biafra stressing that he was in the struggle for freedom not for any other person but for his own children, who, he said, desire a free country where the security of their lives and properties can be guaranteed.

He was displeased that some Igbo elite had become stooges to oppressors, who often used them to do odd jobs and also sponsor them to discredit Biafra in order to win contracts from their masters in Abuja.
He said MASSOB has been trying to actualize Biafra for about 16 years and that nothing will stop him from actualizing it.
He said:

“ACF had asked Allah to give them Boko Haram, he gave to them and they became comfortable with its outcome. Afenifere elders had Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, fighting for social justice in Yoruba land.

“I am very happy that Biafra is being talked about all over the world and people are being killed and detained for the sake of Biafra. So, if I fail to get Biafra, then I would have failed to do what Ndigbo expected of me and if I also die for the sake of Biafra, I will be fulfilled.”
