An Igbo man will never be #Nigeria’s president – MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) says an Igbo man will never be Nigeria’s president because leaders of the ethnic group are “political slaves”.

Uchenna Madu, leader of the group, said this in a statement issued in Enugu on Tuesday.

He also said faulted Nigeria’s present political structure.

?”The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has declared that an Igbo man may not be president of Nigeria again because Igbo leaders are political slaves in Nigeria,” he said.

“Even 2019 and 2023 will come and go, an Igbo man will not be president of Nigeria.”

He insisted on the actualisation and restoration of Biafra, and not Igbo presidency.

“We insist on the actualisation and restoration of Biafra through non-violence, not Igbo presidency,” Madu said.

“The way Nigeria is structured politically, it will be very hard for an Igbo man to be the president of Nigeria.”

He said the structuring of Nigeria has reduced the Igbo to a minority “tribe”, despite being the largest ethnic group in the country.

“The structuring almost reduced the Ndigbo to a minority tribe in Nigeria but history has always proved that the Ndigbo are the largest ethnic nationality in Nigeria,” he said.

“Even though five states were accorded to the Ndigbo in Nigeria but we are the largest ethnic group in every state after the indigenes of that state. In all the nations of the world, the Ndigbo are also the largest Nigerian ethnic nationality.

“During the Yuletide, all the states in Nigeria become temporary deserts when the Ndigbo return to their hometowns.”

Biafra: Igbos feel unwanted in Nigeria – John Nwodo

John Nwodo, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, says if the marginalisation against the Igbo ends, Biafran agitators “will probably twice”.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Nwodo blamed the pro-Biafra agitation on an alleged marginalisation by the federal government

He said: “Our people feel unwanted in the Nigerian federation; our people feel ill-treated.”

According to him, the Igbo was seen as “being incompetent, incapable, or unreliable of being vested with the headship of any of the security agencies in Nigeria”.

Citing Boko Haram, Niger Delta militants and the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), who he said had taken over territories or destroyed properties, the president-general wondered what the Biafran agitators had done to the government.

“Under the constitution of Nigeria, you have freedom of expression and freedom of association. If somebody says he wants Biafra, he is free to say so as long as he is saying it in a legitimate way. He can take his petition to the national assembly,” Nwodo said.

“He can have a plebiscite, if he wins, fine, if he doesn’t win, he takes it like that. The fact that we, their fathers, have not joined them should give a signal to Nigeria that they have not yet become so popular to carry us along and that this matter can be addressed politically.

“If they see this marginalisation end, if they see the restructuring of the country, they could probably think twice. There has been several failed negotiation which the federal government publicly admitted and millions of naira lost.

“I know of a militant organisation in this part (Niger Delta) called the Avengers, who are as angry as MASSOB and IPOB boys. They have destroyed wells, pipelines. I know the vice-president of Nigeria has visited three Niger Delta states seeking for peace and negotiation in order to keep their children calm.

“I know OPC in Western Nigeria, who is like a military force, saluted at every checkpoint. What has IPOB and MASSOB done to the federal government? Why are they being treated differently? Is this an animal farm where some are more equal than others?

“For that reason, I say to my brothers who are in MASSOB and IPOB, I am your brother and I extend my hand of fellowship. Come and let’s work together. I understand why you do what you are doing; I understand your anger, your frustration and your expectations. In spite of the crude methods they have used to suppress you, you have continued to move on. I feel so bad about our people.”

He said the Igbo people should realise that they were a special people like the Jews “who through dint of hard word transformed the desert to an arable land despite all their travails and security concerns”.

Continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu cannot stop the agitation for Biafra – MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB) has said the continued detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu will not stop its agitation.

Leader of MASSOB, Uchenna Madu said this in a statement on Sunday in Abakaliki.

Madu said Buhari’s administration was imposing “imposing Islamic Hausa Fulani agenda on the rest of Nigeria.”

The statement read in part: “History teaches us, arrest and detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others at different prisons and DSS detention camps will not take away the problem; neither will it stop the struggle insofar as the conditions that birthed Nnamdi Kanu and other agitators remain.

“We want Nigerian President Buhari to continue to showcase his anti behaviours which always expresses his frustrations, weaknesses, failures and jittery.

“Any king who thinks like Pharaoh of Egypt against the Jews will certainly experience the doom of Pharaoh. No man born of a woman can crush Biafra because God, History and Humanities are on our side, Biafra revolution is in destructive.

“Biafra agitation is only a reaction to the many injustices, exclusion, second class citizenship, born to rule philosophy, marginalization and other forms of inequality that characterise the Nigerian state.

“As every revolutionary struggle has its own methodology, the current Biafran struggle for actualization and restoration will continue to unfold confusing methods to president Buhari and his Islamic minded fundamentalist.

“Buhari’s military civilian administration is the worst government, Nigeria ever experienced, his leadership style of enforcing and imposing Islamic Hausa Fulani agenda on the rest of Nigeria people is tremendously assisting and justifying our struggle for Biafra actualization.

“Buhari’s stubbornness and Islamic fundamentalism against the Christian Southern, Eastern and Middle Beltan regions have reawakened the consciousness and thought of future survival of the indigenous people of this regions.

“MASSOB also wishes to inform President Buhari that arresting/detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi and many other IPOB members including MASSOB members detained in Onitsha/ Awka prisons since 2006, they are Innocent Orji, Sabastine Amadi, Ikechukwu Chikwem, Peter Igbokwe, Uchenna Nicholas, Uche Idika, Casmir Odokara, Eni Kalu, Chidiebere Ezekwem, Chima Asoh (A cripple), Ojimba Anyanwu, Ndubuisi Okam, Emmanuel Orji, Micheal Okezie, Ikechukwu Aghari, Mmaduabuchi Asika, Chinwike Irondi, Chukwuma Kalu, Chukwuebuka Ikenwa, Amah Onu, Okwudiri Basil (female) and Onyekachi Orji (female).

“Among these 22 detained members in the prisons custody are a crippled man and two females. Persecutions, mesmerizations, suppressions and oppressions of Biafrans including clampdown on non-violent and armless agitators because of our agitation for self rule only worsens the problem and underscores Nigeria as a creeping and repressive colonial state.”

Reps panel chair, MASSOB fault secret trial of Kanu

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions, Nkem Uzoma Abonta and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have faulted the secret trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In an interview, the representative of Ukwa Federal Constituency of Abia State enjoined retracing of steps, saying it was necessary for the public to monitor proceedings.

He condemned any act that could breach the peace in the polity, arguing that subjecting the IPOB leader to secret trial was unfair.

In a statement by its national leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu yesterday in Abakaliki, MASSOB restated support for Kanu and other agitators.

He maintained that that the Biafra proponents committed no crime against the country.

“Our involvement, commitment and continuous agitation for an independent Biafran Republic is enshrined, supported and backed by international conventions and laws, including United Nations Declaration and African Charter on the Human Rights of Indigenous People fully supported by 1999 constitution,” the statement read in part.

MASSOB calls for prayers, fasting for release of Nnamdi Kanu, other Biafra agitators

The Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has called on those sympathetic to the Biafra cause to pray and fast ahead of an Abuja Federal High Court ruling that will decide the fate of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on December 1st.

This was contained in a statement signed and released by the leader of the group, Comrade Uchenna Madu, on Tuesday in Owerri, Imo State capital.

Recall that the Justice Binta Nyako – led court had on November 8 fixed December 1 for ruling on the bail application of Kanu.

According to Madu, “Ndigbo shall not abandon their own son because of individual personal interest. As Nnamdi Kanu and others will appear in court on Dec 1st, MASSOB urge the people of Biafra all over the world to observe praying, fasting and supplication for our brothers and Biafra heroes.

“MASSOB members will engage in charismatic prayer meeting at MASSOB headquarters, Okwe on Dec 1st. As MASSOB demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and others, we shall maintain our non violence principles.

“Until Igbo leaders understand the efficacies, potencies and political value of MASSOB, IPOB and others, they will never progress politically in Nigeria.

“Today, major Igbo leaders have abandoned Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Nwawuisi and Madubugwu of IPOB, Innocent Orji, Sabastine Amadi, Uchenna Nicholas and 17 others of MASSOB and Benjamin Onwuka and others of BZM because they thought that these men pose threat to their political adventures in Nigeria or economic interest.”

Buhari policies are anti-Igbo – MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has described the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari as anti-Igbos.

This was as the separatist movement claimed that its threat to organise an internal revolution against leaders of the South East zone forced some Igbo Senators to meet with the President recently.

In a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Innocent Igbo, on Monday, the secessionist group said the Senators ‘woke up’ to their responsibilities because they were afraid of internal revolution.

Describing the meeting as a welcome development, MASSOB said, “This sudden political move of Igbo Senators to President Buhari is a welcome development even though Buhari may not easily hearken to their pleas because of his anti-Igbo policies.

“As we acknowledge the Igbo Senators, MASSOB charges Igbo House of Representative members, traditional, religious and opinion leaders to start initiating positive steps towards addressing the menace faced by our people.”

Recall that Igbo Caucus in the Senate recently had a meeting with the President regarding issues of lopsided appointments and the continued incarceration of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

You Are Acting Like Pharaoh, MASSOB To Buhari

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has replied President Muhammadu Buhari on his recent declaration that “anybody who wants to leave Nigeria is free,” saying that those who wish to play Pharaoh against the people of Biafra, will certainly experience the consequences.

MASSOB said: “The Federal Government is busy, chasing, witch-hunting and killing Biafrans and agitators, while the country is collapsing, and will soon go into extinction because of clueless and directionless leadership.”

MASSOB, in a statement entitled Buhari is mocking Biafrans, signed by its leader, Mr. Uchenna Madu, said: “We reiterate our earlier position that those who wish to play pharaoh against the people of Biafra, will certainly experience the consequences of the Egyptian Pharaoh.

“President Buhari’s statement that anyone, who cherished another country can leave Nigeria is not something to be cheerful about, celebrated and in any way heartwarming. MASSOB views it as part of Pharaoh’s subtle way of mocking the Hebrews-Biafra.

“The people of Biafra should not celebrate or rejoice over that cunning and mocking assertion. The time of God’s calamitous earthquake that will delete the name of the country from the world map, government and other functions is very fast approaching.

“MASSOB and other pro-Biafran groups will continue to remain non-violent and focused, while watching the calamitous earthquake that will befall the Nigeria state because of the hardening of President Buhari’s heart against Biafrans.

“We will continue to be loyal to Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s principles, vision and legacies; and continue to revive and refresh the consciousness of Ojukwuism in the minds of every Biafran.”

Nothing is working in Nigeria, it will still break up – Uwazuruike

Leader of the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike has stated that, the prophecy by the United States of America that Nigeria would split is still very much possible.

Speaking through his Director of Information, Mr. Chris Mocha, the BIM leader said resultant effect of the US army’s prediction included unabated insurgency in the North, herdsmen’s menace, militancy in Niger Delta, separatist agitations for Biafra Republic, the economic recession that had brought sufferings, poverty, looting spree and bribery and corruption by officials in government establishments.

“That nothing is working in Nigeria today has justified my Biafra struggle for independence.

“I cautioned Nigerian corrupt leaders who criticised the US army’s prediction of Nigeria’s possible breakup in 2015 as prophecy of doom, never to rejoice, insisting that the breakup of Nigeria into six republics is not yet over”, he said

Uwazuruike recalled that in an article written by Director of the African Security Research Project in Washington DC and Guest Columnist of All Africa Globe Media, Mr. Daniel Volman, the Nigerian scenario was predicated upon a possible war.

“The article observed that it was the first time African scenarios were included as part of Pentagon’s plan to create a new military command for Africa, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM)”, he added.

It also emerged that “the free flow of natural resources from Africa to the global market was one of the guiding principles of AFRICOM, as articulated by Vice Admiral Robert Moeller at an AFRICOM conference held at Fort McNair on February 18, 2006.”

MASSOB Vows To Stop Ofala, New Yam Festivals.

The Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday, warned traditional rulers in the south-east geopolitical zone to henceforth, jettison the idea of ofala celebrations and new yam festivals following their inability to demand the release of detained Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu and other pro-Biafran agitators who have been detained since October 10, last year.

MASSOB also revealed that it will call for a revolution in all Igbo communities if by December, Nnamdi Kanu was not released, adding that Ndigbo will not celebrate Christmas with Kanu still in detention.

The pro-Biafra group said the traditional rulers lost relevance when they failed to speak up for the release of their subjects in detention which includes; Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi, Innocent Orji, Sabastine Amadi and Benjamin Onwuka in prisons across the country.

It equally took a swipe at Igbo elites, religious leaders, politicians among others who they have labeled as insensitive to the Biafra struggle, wondering when Igbo will get personalities like; Senator Ali Ndume (Senate leader); Sultan of Sokoto and Emir of Kano; Senator Bola Tinubu and Gov Ayo Fayose who stand up for the struggle of their people.

An infuriated MASSOB warned the traditional rulers in a statement signed and made available to Vanguard by their leader Uchenna Madu, which read: ”Why must Igbo traditional rulers continue to celebrate Ofalas and new yam festivals while their Biafran subjects are still in detention for Igbo cause? We will stop these celebrations forthwith.

What are the religious leaders still preaching while our brethren are still in prisons? We demand that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others will not spend Christmas in prisons again or an internal native revolution will start in Igboland. “MASSOB blasts Igbo religious, traditional, political and opinion leaders for their nonchalant and insensitive attitude concerning the plight of detained Biafra agitators in Nigeria prisons.

The non- violent struggle for Biafra is a reactionary revolution against the continued neglect, political injustices/imbalance of federal structures against Ndigbo by successive government of Nigeria since 1970. We are in this self determination struggle because of political, economical, academical and religious slavery which the government of Nigeria subjected Ndigbo into in Nigeria.

We and other genuine pro-Biafra groups are in the struggle because of the grand plan to islamize the people of Biafra with subtle and harsh economic policies. We are in the struggle to counter and correct the evil plot to enslave our children and their future. We are in the struggle to re-establish and revive the tenacity, economic independence and industrial nature of Ndigbo which astonished the world in 1950-70’s.

Truly, we are in the struggle to restore the dignity, culture and integrity of Ndigbo. “Majority of Igbo leaders have brazenly betrayed the Igbo cause and interest in Nigeria.” Ohaneze youths indict Igbo political leaders Equally, Ohaneze Youth Council, OYC, said that it would team up with Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, to sanitize Igbo land and punish Igbo politicians who have not done anything to improve the lives of Ndigbo.

OYC said that it was in agreement with MASSOB that most Igbo political actors have failed to put the interest of Ndigbo first in their actions and need to be called to order. The group said that they have started compiling names of those they would handle. A statement by OYC signed by Alex Okemiri said: “While there is obvious external marginalization of Ndigbo, there is also the internal marginalisation by our own people.

What do our governors do with the money that percolates to Igbo land? Most of them use it to buy lands, houses and choice properties all over the world. Some of them travel all over the world at every opportunity. They owe pensioners and workers for months . They do not care about the youths. “We are now compiling the list of such politicians and we shall hand over the list to MASSOB for proper sanction while we shall also carry out our own sanctions.

The categories are former governors, some former and serving senators, failed contractors, about 3 serving Igbo governors, former and serving ministers, former commissioners, and those who benefitted from Jonathan’s election funds. “Infact, if by December this year, such failed politicians fail to turn a new leaf, they will leave Igboland for us because we cannot tolerate such people in our midst again. They cannot stay in Igbo land and use our resources to better only their lives and the lives of their girlfriends and hangers on while their subjects suffer unduly. “Igbo contractors also given contracts in Igboland who fail to execute such contracts creditably will also face the music.”

MASSOB threatens ‘internal revolution’ against Igbo leaders.

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, on Sunday, threatened to organise an ‘internal revolution’ against political, traditional, religious and opinion leaders in Igboland.

MASSOB, which issued the threat in a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, said Igbo leaders were ‘insensitive’ to the plight of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and other detained pro-Biafra activists.

Madu said, “The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra blasts Igbo religious, traditional, political and opinion leaders for their nonchalant and insensitive attitude towards the plight of detained Biafra agitators in Nigerian prisons.

“MASSOB charge Igbo leaders to rise up now in defence of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi, Innocent Orji, Sabastine Amadi, Benjamin Onwuka and other detained Biafra agitators across Nigerian prisons.”

He asked, “What are the primary duties of Igbo senators and federal representatives in Abuja?

“Why must Igbo traditional rulers continue to celebrate ofalas and New Yam festivals while their subjects are still in detention for Igbo cause? What are the religious leaders still preaching while our brethren are still in prison?”

He warned that the internal revolution would start if Kanu and others spent the coming Christmas in prison.

Noting that only a few Igbo leaders had supported the activists, the MASSOB leader expressed regret that majority of Igbo leaders had betrayed the struggle.

“MASSOB still has high respect for few Igbo leaders who unflinchingly and boldly defend the interest and cause of Biafra agitators. Majority of Igbo leaders have brazenly betrayed Igbo cause and interest in Nigeria.

“Where are the likes of Senator Ali Ndume, the Sultan of Sokoto and Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, Senator Bola Tinubu and Governor Ayo Fayose in Igboland?”

Madu stressed that the likes of Ndume, Sanusi, Tinubu and Fayose, whom he described as “fearless men,” had eloquently defended the cause of their people, unlike Igbo leaders.

Biafra is dead – Osita Okechukwu

The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, has said the actualisation of the Republic of Biafra is no longer feasible.

He therefore requested ethnic Igbos to call the agitators to order, do a rethink and support President Muhammadu Buhari “in constructing a prosperous and progressive Nigeria”.

According to him, with the unwritten zoning convention for the rotation of political power in the country, the Igbo race in the South East zone would likely produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023.

Mr. Okechukwu spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at a colloquium organized by the Federal Capital Territory Chapter of the Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo.

The leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, is currently facing treason charges over the group’s agitation for the actualization of the Republic of Biafra.

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, began the agitation some years ago.

The attempt to carve out Biafra Republic in Southern Nigeria led to 30 months civil war.

Mr. Okechukwu said the greatest indication that Biafra was impossible to actualise, was the successive national conferences in the country where the five Igbo states voted against regionalism.

“If we must tell ourselves the truth, the greatest obstacle to the actualisation of Biafra, was glaringly demonstrated by successive national conferences, the Abacha Conference and Jonathan Conference, in each of the two conferences the issue of region was voted against by Enugu and Ebonyi states,” he said.

“The Jonathan Conference of 2014, for instance was made up of pro-Biafra elements whom a lot had assumed will support regionalism as a prelude to secession. Other states like Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River and majority of Northern States rejected regionalism. To cap it all the Jonathan Conference recommended the creation of over 50 states.”

Mr. Okechukwu said Biafra agitators must sample the opinion of the people, both at home and abroad, especially the itinerant travelers if their agitation was for collective benefit.

He said, “One is sure that most Ndigbo will call for ceasefire, especially when we are aware that the zoning convention of rotation of president between North and South offers the South East the greatest opportunity of producing Nigeria president of Igbo extraction.”

“This golden opportunity will end the issue of marginalization, will gazette the true republican nature of Ndigbo and return us to the mainstream of Nigeria.

“The doubting Thomases will doubt this projection, but it is real and anchored on the truism that in the public domain is the law with its legal teeth and the convention with its moral weight, mostly unwritten. This thesis projects that in 2023 when President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, by God’s grace completes his two term tenure, it will be the turn of the South.

“At this juncture, Ndigbo relying on equity and justice will make a good case, persuade and lobby Nigerians, in particular our South West and South-South brothers and sisters to support us, since they both had served eight and five years respectively in this 4th Republic. For no one ethnic group can win the presidency of this great country alone.”

Mr. Okechukwu said the scenario he painted showed that if it was good for Nigeria, the Igbo ethnic nationality, which he described as the second largest in population after the original indigenes of Lagos, Kano, and 23 other states of the federation, would be one of the greatest beneficiaries.

He said, “The agitation for Biafra sounds as a good music, much fun and furry as if it is the only route to Eldorado. This is false as some of us who lived in the defunct Biafra enclave can narrate.

“The question one had always posed is can Biafra be achieved via democracy or by force? Most people one had discussed with had always told me it will be achieved via peaceful means, which in other words means democracy.”

The VON DG said he recalled while on the entourage of Mr. Buhari to the World Igbo Congress (WIC) in the United States in 2004, papers were presented to the effect that the United Nations (UN) was processing the application of Ndigbo for an independent Biafra.

“This is over a decade and the germane question remains at what stage is our application? Is their records in the UN which suites our case? If there is none, the option is home-made democratic process.

“As stated earlier only very few are advocating force, and unfortunately, visible obstacles seem to taint the acclaimed democratic process.”

Predicting that the Biafra agitators would disagree with his position on the issue, Mr. Okechukwu said at 61 years of age, it would be a disservice to his ancestors, Ndigbo and Nigeria for him not to say the truth.

He said, “The agitators will vehemently disagree with me, call for my head and even query the existence of obstacles to the actualisation of Biafra under democracy or force.

“However, at 61 years on earth it will be a great disservice to our ancestors, Ndigbo and my dear countrymen, for me to swim in muddled waters and stand truth on its head, because one wants to be hailed and idolized.

“China and India with over one billion people each have shown that our large population is not a disadvantage and United States of America has shown that our diversity is not a disadvantage. What are we talking about?”

BREAKING: Anxiety in Enugu as MASSOB declares war on Nigeria

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Thursday, declared full blown war with the Federal Government to press for the unconditional release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra agitators detained in various prisons nationwide and in Diaspora.

A palpable anxiety pervades Enugu State over the would-be clash between pro-Biafra groups of MASSOB, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and security agencies following the Friday sit-at-home order, to protest the continued detention of their members in detention.

Vanguard monitored the mood of the people within the metropolis and found out that many parents may have decided to withdraw their wards from school even as they were apprehensive of going to their various places of work.

There was copious presence of security personnel at strategic places within the metropolis especially at the three-arms zone housing the Government House.

At the Okpara Square, a detachment of Mobile Policemen numbering over 200 were seen rehearsing crowd and combat techniques as early as 9.30AM. Unusual siren blaring police vehicles patrolled the streets intermittently while Police authorities had earlier assured the public of adequate safety, advising them to go about their lawful businesses.

FULL BLOWN WAR WITH FG

A statement signed and made available to Vanguard by MASSOB Leader, Uchenna Madu read,” MASSOB in the spirit of Biafranism and brotherhood among Biafra agitators have declared full support for the call for civil disobedience against Nigeria state on the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra agitators detained across Nigeria and in Diaspora.

“In the spirit of collaboration and for Biafra sake, MASSOB will engage positively in every steps, programs and activities that will draw Biafra closer to actualization. We shall continue to collaborate and partner with every positive move and steps that will affect the release of our Comrades in different Nigeria prisons and detention camps.

“The call for stay at home tomorrow which has been our recalling measure and steps for effective civil disobedience is totally voluntarily, this exercise has always been the life wire of the Biafran struggle which boomed the potency and acceptability of the Biafra struggle. The request for closure of Markets, public / private motor parks, schools and other public business premises is voluntarily, not by force, it is a mark of respect and love for our fatherland. As a non violence organization, Biafrans shall not be compelled, pressurised or forced to observe the stay at home exercise.

“MASSOB, IPOB and other pro Biafra groups will not molest, compel or intimidate anybody to observe the stay at home exercise as all our members shall stay indoors, there shall be no physical demonstration, street march, procession or any other public functions tomorrow in Biafra land.

“The heavy presence of armed Nigeria Army, Mobile police, SSS operatives, Navy, Civil Defence in major cities of Biafra land since yesterday are all signs of Military jittery, fear and cowardice, it is mesmerization of President Buhari’s soldiers. The security panic, the presence of Soldiers has created in Biafra land will assist immensely and positively on the people to comply to our demands.

“The Nigeria security agents are complimenting and justifying the Biafra struggle. MASSOB is demanding the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi kanu and others detained in Nigeria prisons. The Biafra struggle will continue to unfold more confusing nature to Nigeria state until they realize their fruitless efforts in the unjust detention of Biafran Jews.

“No amount of security intimidation, mesmerization, killings, detention, oppression, incarceration etc will ever stop the will power of an indigenous people for self determination. MASSOB also condemned the brutalities, unlawful subjection and detention of Uchenna Inya (Abakiliki correspondent of New Telegraph Newspaper) on the day of MASSOB anniversary, the use of force can never stop the inflow of the spirit of Biafra”.

Biafra will become reality soon – MASSOB

Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has said that the quest to actualise Biafra Republic will soon become a reality notwithstanding the position of the federal government of Nigeria.

The leadership of the group stated this yesterday, in an elaborate ceremony marking the 17th anniversary of MASSOB.

The group used the occasion to reflect on what they described as their long walk to freedom, and countless episodes of brutality visited on them by the Nigerian government.

Addressing members, MASSOB leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu recalled the harassment, arrests, detention, imprisonment and killings of their non-violent members.

He said: “Today, we also remember the traumatic torture, massacre of unarmed MASSOB members at Umulolo, Okigwe on 29th March, 2003. Today, we remember the uncelebrated deaths of our fallen heroes, not forgetting the traumatic deaths of the parents of our members who died because of shock. MASSOB can never forget the death of the first two pro-Biafra martyrs, Gabriel Ogu and Joseph Okereke. They willingly gave their lives in defence of the Biafran flag at Faulks Road, Aba on 22 May, 2000 when MASSOB first hoisted the Biafran flag.”

In another statement signed by Mazi Lotachukwu Ikeogu (Imo State Coordinator) and Comrade Sebastine Muonso (Imo State Secretary), the group said: “We also remember our members who are still in detention because of their belief in Biafra, but as we commemorate our 17th year anniversary, we urge Ndigbo to device local and community based means of protecting themselves.”

The statement noted further that if Ndigbo had realised potency of their enemy and the hate-driven policies targeted at them, they will stop lamenting about the federal government’s inability to protect them against the marauding Fulani herdsmen.

MASSOB warns that Ndigbo should hold their governors responsible for any invasion of our land by foreigners. That Buhari’s sudden and pressured directive against Fulani’s herdsmen is half-hearted and political. MASSOB foresees more military-styled attacks which shall continue to be veiled as executed by Fulani’s herdsmen but the real men behind these pogroms are known as the Islamic Arewa Army (ISAA) established to conquer and actualise an ethno-religious agenda,” it stated.

Also, the Ralph Uwazurike faction of MASSOB, which gathered on Tuesday at Ikom township stadium in central Cross River State to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the movement, maintained that it was reaching out to countries in the western world to support its course and that soon, Biafra will gain its freedom from Nigeria.

The Zonal leader of the group, Samuel Okah, who led members on a peaceful march through streets in the commercial town of the state chanting victory songs and the Biafran anthem before converging at the stadium, encouraged members to keep faith with the movement as the leadership was doing everything to ensure a peacefull disengage from Nigeria.

Okah, who also said Chief Uwazurike has asked him to assure members of the possibility of freedom, noted that the struggle had assumed a different dimension and that the federal government would soon get tired of arresting and intimidating members of the group.

We have continued to ask for a peaceful departure from Nigeria because we do not want take up arms again. In the last seventeen years, the struggle has gained momentum and the federal government might soon be tired of arm-twisting us to remain in unequalled country,” Okah stated.

Nigeria’s Unity Negotiable- MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) said the unity of Nigeria was negotiable.

National leader of MASSOB, Chief Solomon Ordu Chukwu, argued that the series of agitations across the country, were enough reason to split the country.

Chukwu who spoke through the Movement’s National Director of Information, Sunday Okereafor, wondered if the country would fight another war before secession.

“In the country now, we have Boko Haram insurgents in the North East, who do not want Western education, but wants everybody to embrace Islam, killing and causing havoc in the entire geo-political zone.

“Also, Fulani herdsmen are terrorising the entire country, killing, kidnapping and raping women at will, and destroying farmlands without government doing something. In the Niger Delta, we have the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), whose activities are akin to the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), holding the nation’s economy in ransom.

“In South-East, MASSOB, in its non-violent campaign, has sustained the struggle. With all these agitations, how can it be said the the unity of the country is not negotiable? It needs to be negotiated because we cannot deceive ourselves that the country is one,” Chukwu said.

He restated MASSOB’s non-violent position, stressing that, as a non-political organisation, it would not defend or support the activities of politicians.

Buhari Is Against Ekweremadu Because He’s Igbo – MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB Tuesday stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s grouse against the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, is because the Senator is an Igbo man not because of the party affiliation.

According to the group, Buhari’s bias fight against corruption did not see major Igbo progressive leaders for rubbishing; hence he shifted his political muscle against Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate President, and the highest Igbo political office holder in his administration.

In a statement signed by the Leader of MASSOB, Comrade Uchenna Madu, called on Ndigbo to be weary President Mohammed Buhari’s antics against Ndigbo.

The statement read in part: “MASSOB have discovered the major reasons behind President Buhari’ s pathological and sentimental hatred against Ndigbo and Biafrans in general which is his perceived pathological envy against the entrepreneurship, economic prowesses, establishment, domineering and industrious nature of Igbo people.

“Buhari’s grouse against Ike Ekweremadu is because he’s Igbo man not PDP, if a non Igbo PDP senator replaces Ike Ekweremadu, Buhari, Tinubu and their likes will relax their nerves. MASSOB also reminds Ndigbo that this is the time of Onye Aghala Nwanne ya (Be your Brother’s keeper).

“President Buhari is always rattled and unsettled whenever he sees, hears or encountered the magnanimity of economical dominance and booming enterprising exploits of Ndigbo both in Nigeria and in Diaspora.”

Divide Nigeria Into 6 Republics; MASSOB, BIM Appeal To UN

Movememt for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) havecalled on the United Nations and other world leaders to divide Nigeria into six geo-political zones to solve problems facing the nation.

The group said granting the six geo-political zones in Nigeria self rule would be the only solution to the many problems in the country.

In a release signed by the Director of Information of the pro-Biafra group, Mr. Chris Mocha, the two groups appealed to the UN and other super powers to consider the lives of people that are killed on a daily basis in Nigeria arising from the insurgency in the North East and Fulani herdsmen said to be allegedly affiliated to ISIS and Boko Haram.

Mocha said the proposed nations inlcude South East, (Biafra), South South (Niger Delta), North East, North West, South West, (Oduduwa) and North- Central.

He stressed that no amount of preaching on nationalism can change Nigeria as it is today.

Mocha said when the proposed zones are granted independence, assets of the citizens of the different countries will be protected by international laws, just as bilateral agreements will guide the future relationship of the new republics.

The group, however, insisted that several members of BIM/MASSOB were killed last week during the Biafra anniversary at Nkpor and Onitsha.

“While all the members of BIM/ MASSOB in Anambra central senatorial district including Nkpor town in Idemili North Local Government Area celebrated at Ifite Dunu, our counterparts in Anambra North including Onitsha converged at the zonal secretariat, project site at Nteje in Oyi council area of Anambra State.

Why Protesting MASSOB, IPOB Members Were Killed- Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army said its troops, alongside other security agencies, acted in self-defence as well as in defence of lives and property of peace-loving Nigerians when it shot dead at least five members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday.

The pro-Biafra activists were killed as they marched to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the declaration of the defunct Biafra Republic by late warlord, Odumegwu Ojukwu.

According to the army, in a statement made available in Enugu by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, eight other members of the separatist organisations were wounded while nine were arrested for due legal actions.

The statement said, “The attention of the general public is hereby drawn to the unwarranted attack that was launched by combined members of the Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) against the peace loving populace as well as security agencies at about 0415 hours on 30 May 2016.

“This attack was purported to have been orchestrated in order to mar the first anniversary of the present democratic government as part of the activities earmarked to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Biafra.

“Due to the wide spread panic, tension and apprehension that generated from the activities of the MASSOB and IPOB members, security agencies which comprised of detachment of Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police, Department of State Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency were compelled to intervene in consonance with constitutional provisions of aid to civil authority where and when such occasion demands. The over arching imperative to ensure a reign of peace, security and stability in this circumstance was most starring.

“However, the MASSOB/IPOB members who had earlier assembled at a school location on Ataa Road near Saint Edmunds’ Catholic Parish Maryland Nkpor-Agu in Anambra State resorted to fierce attack against the intervening security agencies that were carrying out their legitimate mandate.

“The nature of this attack involved brazen employment of various types of fire arms and all sorts of crude weapons, volatile cocktail such as acid and dynamites.

“Instructively, troops of 82 Division Nigerian Army as the lead agency of the security agencies had to invoke the extant Rules of Engagement (ROE) to resort to self defence, protection of the strategic Niger Bridge, prevent re-enforcement of the pro-Biafra members apparently surging ahead from the far side of the strategic Niger Bridge at Onitsha. All these efforts were in order to de-escalate the palpable tension as well as ward off the apparent threats to lives and property in the general area.

“In the aftermath of the fire fight that ensued, many of own troops sustained varying degrees of injury. These injured troops are currently receiving treatment at own medical centre. Similarly, 5 members of MASSOB/IPOB were killed, 8 wounded while 9 were arrested for due legal actions.

The statement said the unfortunate incident notwithstanding, “the 82 Division Nigerian Army wishes to assure all of its professional commitment to the protection of lives and property of the good people of Anambra State and indeed across its entire Area of Responsibility in tandem with the recent directive of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria through the Chief of Defence Staff to the Chief of Army Staff to avert occurrences of such unwarranted and uncivilized attacks against the good and law abiding people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Biafra: Military Warns MASSOB, Vows To Crush Acts Of Sabotage

Military authorities in the Country have warned groups (Biafra agitators) or unpatriotic elements threatening to make the country ungovernable because of their narrow interests, to have a rethink and desist from such, as the armed forces were fully mobilized and ready to crush acts of sabotage.

The Defence headquarters in a statement signed by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig-General Rabe Abubakar said,

“The attention of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has been drawn to some newspaper publication by a group of persons threatened to embark on acts of sabotage against the Nigerian state”.

“The DHQ hereby warned that the military and other security agencies will not condone any acts by individuals or group that is capable of breach to security and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta or in any part of the country. “This is because the nation’s interest is above that of individual or group’s interest. “In as much as the military recognizes the supremacy of the Constitution which guarantees freedom of expression and association, the constitution also frowns against individuals or groups hiding under it to stir up trouble and insecurity in the land. “Any individual or groups who have genuine complain or grievances should use the available means of dialogue for amicable resolution but certainly not violence, as it will not be tolerated. “The DHQ will continue to partner with other security agencies to protect and provide enabling environment to all citizens to engage in their respective and legitimate businesses without fear of molestation.

The Military’s reaction followed the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra’s threat yesterday to make Nigeria ungovernable if the Federal Government failed to conduct a referendum in the South-East. MASSOB and other pro-Biafra groups, including the Indigenous People of Biafra, are demanding a referendum in the region to enable the people decide, through voting, whether they wish to secede, or remain in Nigeria. The Biafra activists claim that majority of people in the region would vote in favour of a separation from Nigeria.

MASSOB said it had concluded plans, with other pro-Biafra groups, to disrupt governance in the country, if the Federal Government would not conduct the referendum.

National Director of Information, MASSOB, Samuel Edeson, who signed the statement, said the agitators would fight the Federal Government with ‘everything’ at their disposal. He said the group intended to instigate civil disobedience, and strikes, particularly in the South-East, and Lagos. Edeson added, “MASSOB and other pro-Biafra agitators will make Nigeria ungovernable if the Nigerian government failed to conduct referendum in Eastern Nigeria. “We shall use everything at our disposal to fight the Nigerian government, especially through civil disobedience.

It will be recalled that the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Thursday, asked the Federal Government to quickly conduct a referendum in the south-east geopolitical as a precursor to secession or face the total shutdown of socio-economic activities in the region and beyond.

Nnamdi Kanu Never Apologised To Buhari – MASSOB, IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has described as blatant lies, the claim that its incarcerated leader and founder of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdui Kanu has expressed regrets and apologized to President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders for his alleged uncomplimentary remarks and statements against them to facilitate his release.

In a statement signed by IPOB National Coordinator Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe and Media and Publicity officer, comrade Emma Powerful, titled Nnamdi Kanu never apologized for his release, IPOB said it totally dismissed the publication, describing it as “the machinations of the Directorate of State Security, DSS to save its face having been disgraced by the court with granting of Kanu bail.

Also the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has described as complete false, calculated and systematic attempt by agents of Federal Government to discredit IPOB and MASSOB with the claim that Nnamdi Kanu has apologized for his comments against some Nigerians.

In a statement by MASSOB leader Mr. Uchenna Madu, it said the news that Nnamdi Kanu has apologized to President Buhari is complete false information and a calculated and systematic attempt by agents of the Federal government to discredit, disorganize and frustrate the agitation for actualization of Biafran State.

“The publication was totally false and should be ignored by the general public, no amount of intimidation, harassment, torture, killings, arrest and blackmail can make Kanu apologize for anything he said, nothing will ever make us to stop the agitation for the actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra,” he said.

According to IPOB, “DSS is not sincere, if they have respect for the constitution of Nigeria, they would have released Kanu as directed by the courts, instead, they are looking for new charges which they will use to jail him, but they will fail again, and they have discovered that they will not make any progress in their quest to jail Kanu, they are now looking for soft landing to chicken out of the case with the claim that Kanu is apologizing, a claim that does not hold water,” said IPOB.

IPOB urged the media to beware of the false claims by DSS, saying that “Kanu is not disturbed in any way for his long incarceration, his spirit is very high and he will be received like a hero he is, any day they are tired of holding him and decides to release him”.

“Kanu is in detention for us, we are here for him. DSS should stop embarrassing itself with the false information they are churning out to the public. If they are honest in what they are claiming about Kanu’s apology, they should publish the copy of the said apology as an advert in the newspapers let the world see, if they say they culled it from the statement he wrote in DSS detention, how then did it become an apology to people,” said IPOB.

Madu in his statement, further stated that “agitation for the actualization of Biafra has gained international prominence and sympathy even before Nnamdi Kanu arrest and detention, and his current detention has further strengthened the agitation, so this latest move and campaign of calumny by enemies and oppressors of Biafrans is a sign that they are jittery, frustrated and are afraid of the fast rising and global acceptance Biafrans struggle for actualization of state of Biafra.

“MASSOB and IPOB shall never be discouraged, frustrated, disorganized, dislocated or relent on the non violent Biafran actualization because of this false statement credited to Nnamdi Kanu. Mazi Kanu as a true Biafran can never compromise the integrity, confidence and trust of Biafra freedom fighters no matter the condition, subjection or oppression by DSS and Nigerian government.

“This Federal government latest move to discredit IPOB and MASSOB has propelled us to redouble our efforts and strategies on Biafra agitation; we shall intensify our non violence approach as MASSOB and IPOB march ahead for Biafra actualization,” he said.

5 Killed, 7 Injured As IPOB, MASSOB Clash With JTF In Onitsha

Five persons were, yesterday, shot dead at the Niger Bridge Head, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries when members of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, and Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, clashed with Joint Task Force, JTF, comprising the  Army and the Police, which mounted road block at the Niger Head Bridge.

Four of the victims shot dead were members of both IPOB and MASSOB, while one person is said to be a soldier, who was grabbed by the  mob, angry with the way soldiers opened fire on the jubilating crowd that included non pro-Biafra agitators, and fell four of them before they ran for their lives, leaving the victims behind.

All the markets around the Niger Bridge Head, including the Bridge Head Market, Onitsha Patent and Propitiatory Medicine Dealers Market (Ogbo Ogwu Market) and other markets located around the bridge, including Abada Market were quickly shut down, following sporadic shooting by the military to scare the jubilant crowd away.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday,  ordered the Department of State Service, DSS, to immediately release  the detained  leader of IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

The court directed that Kanu, who had been in detention since October 17,  should be released “unconditionally.”

Ruling on the fundamental rights suit by Kanu, the trial judge, Justice Ademola Adeniyi, said there was no basis for the applicant to remain in custody since there was currently no charge pending against him.

The court order came barely 24 hours after an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Wuse Zone 2, struck out a one-count  charge the Federal Government preferred against the IPOB leader.

Meanwhile, according to an eye-witness at the Onitsha Head Bridge, who was coming from Asaba end of the bridge, the Biafra agitators were said to be marching on the road near the River Niger Bridge, chanting solidarity songs in jubilation for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, and were accosted by the soldiers, who ordered them to go back, and disagreements ensued before the soldiers allegedly opened fire on them.

Another version of the story had it that, the pro-Biafra agitators and those sympathetic to their cause, were jubilating, singing and dancing near the bridge and in annoyance, the soldiers, who had been guiding the bridge since the last shooting, during which unarmed nine protesters were killed and 18 others  injured,  opened fire on them, gunning down four.

Biafra: Clergy Women Caution MASSOB, IPOB

Nigerian Women in Clergy has cautioned pro-Biafran groups, Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to suspend their street protests in the interest of peace.

The clergy women under the leadership of Prophetess Nonnie Robberson had in their message to the group emphasised on the importance of dialogue against violent protest that will further lead to deaths and destruction of property in the South East.

A statement issued on behalf of the group by its President, Prophetess Nonnie Robberson, said violent agitation that led to Biafran war was to the disadvantage of all, asserting that victims of the war who managed to survive have continued to tell their horrible stories. She said Nigeria as country would have gone beyond the level it finds itself today, if not for the setback of the war.

Ohaneze-Biafra Nonnie who advised the group to view dialogue as a better option said, “I was conceived and born during the Biafran war, and it hurts me so much when I recall the pain my mother went through during the period. Reviving this agitation through street protests will further re-awaken the scars most of us have decided to leave behind; hence it’s time to shield the sword.

“Even though the demand for self- determination appears to be within the United Nations charter provisions, the way we go about it will either make or mar our good intention. I will advise that we change our approach as we make our demands. We must not leave the substance or rather, the reason for the protest. We must go back to why we are demanding for self-determination. If the government is ready and willing to address those problems such as unemployment, equal representation, under-development and other sundry issues, then Biafra will have no reason to break away or ask further questions.

Nonnie further said that, ” It’s however difficult to achieve all these by merely invading the streets in protest. It’s difficult to achieve any reasonable result through violent protests. The group must sit with the authorities and place their demands. The question clergy women are asking is, ‘ how does a government listen to a group on the street?’ How does a government call them for dialogue if they resort to insult, violence and intimidation? They must neutralize this radical approach for a more conservative one. By doing so, the government can then listen to them. They must not look as though they have come to attack or overthrow a government. They must be peaceful in placing their demands as they are our children. As women, we are generally known to be peaceful in all we do, and as mothers, clergy women believe that what MASSOB and IPOB seek cannot be found on the street,” Nonnie said.

The group, while calling on the President to order the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the alleged Director of Radio Biafra, equally advised the government to look beyond the street protest and hasten up to address the actual reason for the struggle. “The struggle which is mainly for justice, equality, empowerment, fairness, women and youths emancipation must be truly addressed by the government. We urge the government to call these groups for negotiation instead of sending the police and the army after them as force and aggression do not achieve peace,” She said.

She said government must look inward to address the issue of unemployment as majority of Nigerian youths on the streets were doing so because they are jobless. She called for a more inclusive government where everybody is given equal opportunity, saying, more than 90% of our graduate Youths have no Jobs.

“If these youths are properly engaged, the issue of street protest in the country will become a thing of the past. The problem is that majority of our youths are unemployed and unengaged and are always willing to be engaged on the street. Our youths are angry and are waiting for any opportunity to express their anger.

“We at the Nigerian Women in Clergy believe that the issue is really not about Biafra and Nigeria going their separate ways, it’s rather about unemployment, hardship, lack of basic infrastructure, hunger, segregation, exclusiveness, and a host of others. With President Buhari’s change agenda; he must endeavour to form a more inclusive government for all in order to enjoy unimaginable support from Nigerians.”

Nonnie ended by saying that the women were more interested in the unity and progress of Nigeria for the benefit of all, and were ready to offer their motherly advice any time occasion warrants such

I’ll Be Alive To Actualize Biafra – MASSOB Leader

The leader of the Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, yesterday, encouraged members of the movement to remain steadfast and focused in the revolutionary struggle, saying that the non-violent methods adopted by MASSOB had become discomforting to northern socio-cultural group, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and the Nigerian military.

Uwazuruike said there was no going back in his bid to actualize Biafra stressing that he was in the struggle for freedom not for any other person but for his own children, who, he said, desire a free country where the security of their lives and properties can be guaranteed.

He was displeased that some Igbo elite had become stooges to oppressors, who often used them to do odd jobs and also sponsor them to discredit Biafra in order to win contracts from their masters in Abuja.
He said MASSOB has been trying to actualize Biafra for about 16 years and that nothing will stop him from actualizing it.
He said:

“ACF had asked Allah to give them Boko Haram, he gave to them and they became comfortable with its outcome. Afenifere elders had Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, fighting for social justice in Yoruba land.

“I am very happy that Biafra is being talked about all over the world and people are being killed and detained for the sake of Biafra. So, if I fail to get Biafra, then I would have failed to do what Ndigbo expected of me and if I also die for the sake of Biafra, I will be fulfilled.”

Biafra: No Successful Dialogue With Kanu In Detention – MASSOB

A FACTION of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, said Wednesday that the much- publicized meeting scheduled to take place in Owerri, Imo State, could not hold because of the continued detention of the director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

Director of information of the faction, Comrade Uchenna Madu, in a statement yesterday said in addition, the continued protests by pro- Biafra groups in some cities in the South East and South –South did not create a conducive atmosphere for such a meeting to take place.

Madu’s statement read: “We support the meeting of the South East governors and Ohaneze Ndigbo, with pro-Biafra groups to douse the tension, but we believe that such a meeting cannot take place while Nnamdi Kanu is still in detention.

“The continued detention of Kanu, non compliance with Biafra demands will continue to haunt, frustrate and diminish Nigeria’s image before the international community.”

He said that for such a meeting to succeed. all the groups championing for the actualization of Republic of Biafra should be invited to participate.

MASSOB is a distraction –Okorocha’s CPS

The Founder and Sole Proprietor of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has been described as insincere for aiding and abetting the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government in the continued marginalisation of the Igbo, and not the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

Reacting to a media report, the Chief Press Secretary to the Imo State Governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemedo, said, “Although Chief Uwazuruike had made his claim and his allegation, the indisputable fact remains that the real Igbo saboteur is Chief Uwazuruike himself and not Governor Okorocha, because all over the world, the real enemies of the people are those who fail or refuse to tell them the truth”.

“Obviously, what must have prompted Chief Uwazuruike’s media attack on Governor Okorocha this time was the governor’s condemnation of the violent protest in the name of Biafra some weeks ago, and his remark that Igbo people would not use MASSOB as a platform to ask for what is due to them in an entity called Nigeria. But the truth must be told.”

“Chief Uwazuruike had used his MASSOB to adopt and support the Peoples Democratic Party and former President Goodluck Jonathan when they held sway. He should mention one project the PDP-led Federal Government or former President Jonathan did in any part of Igbo land.”

“The MASSOB leader was part of the hate campaign against the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari, while Governor Okorocha was telling his Igbo kinsmen to read accurately the body language of the rest of Nigerians. Today, it is left for Ndigbo to tell themselves the truth about who was the real saboteur, Uwazuruike or Okorocha?”

“It is also left for Chief Uwazuruike to tell his audience why MASSOB went to bed throughout the period Jonathan was the President, only for MASSOB to wake up from their deep slumber now that Buhari is the President.”

He said that the Igbo cannot be asking for sovereignty in a country that they were one of the major stakeholders, adding that if MASSOB had failed to achieve sovereignty under former President Goodluck Jonathan that they supported, would they achieve it under President Buhari they never supported? Who would allow them to achieve that? he asked.

He said, “Truly speaking, the issue of MASSOB is a distraction. And Igbo leaders and the governors in the South-East geo-political zone won’t be part of that unnecessary distraction. The leaders and governors in the zone have resolved to work with Buhari to attract development to the area. And the projects have begun to come with the elevation of the Imo Airport to Cargo International Airport. Work is already in progress in the place.”

“Governor Okorocha is an Igbo man and would continue to support and promote genuine cause of the Igbo within the corporate Nigeria and in the overall interest of the Ndigbo both at home and in the Diaspora.”

MASSOB Replies Obasanjo: ‘Nothing Will Stop Biafra’

Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB0, yesterday said the self-determination struggle remained on course despite efforts by some ‘bad eggs’ to discredit genuine activists, the Sun reports..

Madu said:

The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has warned that his administration would not tolerate a repeat of the protest embarked upon by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Members and supporters of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra and the IPOB had on Tuesday demonstrated in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Both MASSOB and IPOB had demanded for a breakaway from Nigeria and the unconditional release of one of their members, Mr. Nnamdi Kalu.

The protesters had marched through Ikoku, Ikwerre and some major roads in the state capital.

But Wike, who spoke through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, said he was peeved by the protest.

The governor stressed the indivisibility of Nigeria and added that the actions of the protesters were capable of stimulating chaos in the state.

“The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has warned against insidious actions by anybody or group in the state.

“The governor, who was peeved by the protest by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra in Port Harcourt, warned that such demonstrations will not be brooked by his administration.

“Emphasizing the indivisibility of Nigeria, the governor said the actions of the IPOB members are capable of stimulating chaos in the state,” the statement read.

Wike warned that as the chief security officer of the state who swore to protect lives and property, he would not tolerate actions that would lead to the breakdown of law and order in the state.

He, however, dissociated himself and the state from the protest and cautioned that a coercive legal machinery would be set in motion against any group that would breach the peace in the state.

The governor called on residents and those transacting businesses in the state to go about their lawful duties without fear, assuring them of safety.
