Ooni Of Ife celebrates Christmas, calls Jesus an embodiment of forgiveness

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, had while celebrating Christmas said Jesus Christ is an embodiment of forgiveness.

He further described Jesus Christ as the Lord of peace and love with an unparalleled forgiving spirit who should always be remembered and honoured with the existence of love and peace by Christians.

According to him, that was the only way harmonious co-existence can be achieved not only within the ranks of his followers but also among the members of the larger global society for whom Jesus lived and died over 2000 years ago.

The traditional ruler made this known on Christmas Day.

In a statement signed by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Comrade Moses Olafare, the Ooni wished all Christians in Nigeria and across the globe a merry Christmas.

He charged religious leaders to always lead by example by not just preaching but always act like Jesus if their followers should take them seriously.

The statement reads: “People of the world must see themselves as one before the God almighty and must treat one another with forgiveness, peace and love as symbolized by Jesus Christ if the world must be a conducive place for everyone to survive.

“There is no greater gift and honour you can give to Jesus Christ other than exhibition of forgiving spirit, display of love and ensurance of absolute peace because these are what the lord Jesus symbolizes.

“We all must see ourselves as equal before the almighty God who purposefully created us with different cultural backgrounds.

“The surest way of achieving the much needed global harmony is when we always imbibe the spirit of forgiveness and extend hand of love and peace to one another, with this Jesus Christ will be happy in heaven.

“God will always smile to us and of course the world will become a better place for all of us to dwell happily,” the statement added.

Shettima: This is the best #Christmas I’ve witnessed

Kashim Shettima, governor of Borno state, has described the Christmas of 2016 as the best he has witnessed since his assumption of office over five years ago.

Speaking at the reopening of some major highways in the state, Shettima said 2016 signalled “Nigeria’s year of victory and Borno year of hope and liberation’’.

The highways are Maiduguri-Gubio-Damasak and the Maiduguri-Monguno-Baga roads.

“I want start by declaring that since I became the governor of Borno state in over five years, this is the best Christmas season that I have ever witnessed,” he said.

“This is the best December we ever witnessed and the year 2016 is my best year so far as governor of Borno state. 2016, for me is Nigeria’s year of victory and Borno year of hope and resurrection.

“It is in 2016 that we began to have access to major roads like Gwoza, Bama, Dikwa,Monguno and Damasak, following their liberation by our gallant armed forces.

“It is in the year 2016 that major highways began to be reopened, it is in the year 2016 that we accelerated our major reconstruction of liberated cities.”

He also said not only were some of the Chibok abducted school girls recovered in the year, the country established its supremacy over the Sambisa forest, a stronghold of Boko Haram.

“It is in the year 2016 that we recovered some of our daughters abducted at Government Secondary School, Chibok in 2014,” he said.

“And fellow Nigerians, it is in the year 2016 that the Federal Republic of Nigeria established its supremacy over the Sambisa headquarters of the Boko Haram (terrorists).

“For the government and people of Borno that there is no better Christmas and New Year gift that is more precious than the conquering of Sambisa forest by our gallant armed forces.”

OPINION: The morning after #Christmas – By Reuben Abati

“How was your Christmas Day?”

“Comme ci, comme ca”

“What’s that?”

“I am speaking French. You mean you don’t even understand elementary French?”

“No, I don’t. Speak English. How was Christmas?”

“Low-key. Like this, like that”.

“For me, it was a dead-end Christmas”

“God forbid. May we never have a dead-end Christmas. I reject it in Jesus name.”

“If you like, summon the Holy Ghost. We have never had a Christmas like this one. On Christmas eve in Lagos, come and see people just going about, many of them aimlessly. The kind of shopping that heralds Christmas was absent. For the first time, I could see the real colour of sadness, frustration and regret on the people’s faces.”

“It depends on what part of Lagos you are talking about.  If you had been in Lekki or Victoria Island, you would have seen a different colour.”

“I know. There are two countries in one: the real Nigeria and the other Nigeria, where people live in a bubble. But the bubble is beginning to burst everywhere. With the Naira now N500 to the dollar, and businesses failing everyday, the pain is spreading. It was an unusual Christmas.”

“Everywhere jus’ dry. I know some people who used to hold Christmas parties every December 25.  They just decided to postpone it till next year. But did you at least manage to eat rice and chicken?”

“Anybody that eats rice these days is very lucky indeed, with a bag of rice now N20, 000. And you can’t even be sure it is real rice. I learnt the market was flooded with plastic rice.”

“Plastic rice? What does that taste like?”

“I guess like plastic. “

“Never heard of that. Plastic rice?”

“To be on the safe side, these days, I only eat Ofada rice. Local rice.”

“All kinds of things happen during recession. Plastic rice.  Empty pockets.”

“I know something about empty pockets, my brother. Imagine what I went through trying to get money from the ATM, two days to Christmas.  I went to about five banks, you’d think people were queuing for fuel, with everyone looking anxious.”

“I know.”

“One queue covered an entire street. When I eventually found an ATM and it was my turn, the machine just started blinking. I didn’t know when I started shouting Blood of Jesus, Blood of Jesus.”

“You should have planned ahead. I don’t know why people have to wait till the last minute before withdrawing money. Nigerians should learn to plan ahead.”

“I did. The ATMs misbehave a lot these days and they are always crowded.”

“There is no money in circulation. I hear the Central Bank is broke. The banks are just managing.”

“You have started, hen? How can the Central Bank of Nigeria be broke? For the past three weeks now, the spot price of crude oil has been over $50 per barrel. That’s some good revenue.”

“May be it is the banks that are broke then.  I just hope nobody has taken depositors’ funds to go and invest in the MMM.”

“What nonsense!”

“MMM was giving people better returns on their investments. Even bankers invested in the scheme. And now that the scheme has been frozen till January ending, there is panic everywhere. You would be surprised the kind of revelations that would come up if the profile of investors in the scheme is investigated.”

“Nigerians are always looking for quick profit, but I don’t believe that a bank will invest in MMM”

“Dey there. Look at the way special prayers, night vigils and deliverance sessions are being held over this MMM thing. Some churches are holding get-your-MMM-money-back prayer sessions, and when you attend those sessions, come and see crowd!  If that Ponzi scheme should crash eh, a lot of people will commit suicide.”

“One man sold his only car and invested the money in MMM.”

“I know. Some people sold their houses too.”

“The MMM scheme is a comment on the Nigerian banking system. Obviously, Nigerians don’t trust the banks and their miserable deposit interest rates.”

“Tell me, did you invest in the MMM?”

“No. But I almost did. I know some people who made huge profits from it. I was still contemplating putting some money down to test the waters when the alarm blew.”

“You are lucky, then.”

“I guess every investment is a risk.”

“I tried to make fun of some of my friends who invested in the MMM the other day. January 2017 has suddenly become the most important month in their lives.  The way they reacted, hen. I was accused of being insensitive and sadistic. I quickly shut up”.

“So, what are your plans for the new year?”

“I have no plans yet. But I have been following what the prophets are predicting.”

“You believe those predictions?  I just read them for fun. But this December, I have only read the predictions by Prophet Ayo Fayose”

“Prophet Ayo Fayose. Never heard of him. Which Christian Ministry does he lead?”

“The Ayo Fayose Evangelical Church of Yahweh, Iyana Jogunomi, Ori oke Ekiti-Kete.”

“You are joking!”

“Yes, I am. But you mean you don’t know that the Governor of Ekiti State is a prophet?. Every year, he also makes predictions about the coming year.  He has released his 2017 predictions”

“Seriously, is he also among the Prophets?”

“Uhn hun.  In his latest predictions, he talks about how the Holy Spirit directed him.”

“I hear, though, that he has been anointed by Daddy G.O. Pastor Adeboye.”

“Anointment comes from God. What happened is that Pastor Adeboye commended Fayose publicly for leading his people courageously and defending their interests.”

“The APC won’t like that”

“Daddy G.O is not a politician.”

“But have you not heard that the Ekiti Chapter of the APC issued a statement to say that Fayose bribed Pastor Adeboye?”

“May the Holy Ghost slap the mouth of anybody who utters that blasphemy. The Bible says touch not my anointed. The Bible also says He that is in me is greater than he that is in the world.  The word of God is greater than politics. “

“The way you are carrying on, the APC in Ekiti will issue another statement to say you have also been bribed by Fayose.  Anyway don’t worry, they have denied the statement. But the PDP in Ekiti has also issued a statement saying the denial is an after-thought.  Too much politics in that their Ekiti.”

“Forget about them. But what did the Governor predict, if I may ask? You mean, he has so much free time on his hands; he is busy making predictions. In any case, many of these predictions are somehow. Anybody can predict Nigeria’s future at anytime. It is always something like: I foresee a crisis in the Niger Delta. I foresee a change of cabinet. I foresee deaths in Nollywood. I foresee changes at the Central Bank. I foresee the emergence of a new political party…I foresee Donald Trump creating tension in the world.  Three prominent traditional rulers should pray against sickness and bereavement…. Common sense.”

“Oh, oh.”

“But how come no prophet predicted that Nigerian soldiers will capture Sambisa forest and drive out the Boko Haram or that a day after, there will be suicide bombing at a cattle market in Maiduguri? “

“Suicide bombing at a cattle market? What is the target?”

“No prophet foresaw the killings in Southern Kaduna and the waste of human lives or that a white man will be arrested inside Sambisa forest. You don’t have to be a prophet to know tomorrow”

“Whatever.”

“We should thank God for everything and for the joy of surviving Christmas in a season of recession. We should also thank God we are not in Saudi Arabia, but in our country, Nigeria.”

“What has Saudi Arabia got to do with Christmas? I don’t get it.”

“It is a crime to celebrate Christmas in Saudi Arabia. This year, seven Africans – 4 Nigerians, 2 Ghanaians, and one Kenyan were arrested in Saudi Arabia for playing Christmas Carols, they could be sent to jail for 10 years.”

“What? For playing Christmas songs?”

“I understand there is even an Islamic cleric in India, Zakir Abdul Karim Naik who told Muslim brothers and sisters not to wish Christians Merry Christmas, because it is a “big sin, worst evil, worse than fornication or murder.” What is the world turning into: A world of hate, bigotry and intolerance. Tell me it is not true. ”

“It is true.”

“Sad.”

“Sorry about the fire accident at Nigerian Breweries in Lagos. I know you drink beer.”

“If you want to talk about something else, do so”

“I am just concerned that there are too many fire accidents taking place these days.  When petrol tankers are not exploding on the highways, markets are being gutted by fire, companies and houses are going up in flames.  The Lagos State Fire Service reported for example that 45 markets in Lagos had fire accidents between January and September 2016 alone.”

“The Fire Service should not moan. They need to do a lot more to educate the people about safety precautions and ensure that buildings respect the Fire Code. They also need to be better organized to deal with emergencies.”

“The Fire Service in Nigeria is poorly funded.”

“Harmattan. Dry season. The possibility of more fire accidents is high. The public should be sensitized all the same.”

“Most of the fire accidents are due to electrical faults, either faulty connections or power surge. We need a national safety programme to prevent fire outbreaks. Every market and major company should have a fire station. There should be fire hydrants across every major city.”

“I’d just say that prevention is better than cure.”

“Who is your Man of the Year, 2016?”

“Man of the Year. Who is yours?”

“Yours first”

“Let me see. I’ll choose the Nigerian Soldier.  The Nigerian soldier is practically holding Nigeria together. He is underpaid, over-used, overstretched, denied access to equipment, and money and often subjected to the harshest possible conditions. Our soldiers are involved in one operation or the other across the country, protecting the country and even doing police work.  Operation Crocodile Tears, Operation Harmony, Operation Lafiya Dole, Operation Delta Safe, Operation Gama Aiki, Operation MESA, Operation Awatse, Operation Sharan Daji, Operation Maximum Security. From one region to the other, the Nigerian soldier is busy keeping Nigeria safe from kidnappers, terrorists, secessionists, oil bunkerers, cattle rustlers and extremists.”

“Our soldiers have even been sent abroad to learn cattle rearing because their next assignment includes the management of cattle ranches. I agree with you. I salute their courage.”

“And who is your own man of the year?”

“I’ll choose the average Nigerian for the resilience, the capacity and the courage to suffer and smile at the same time”.

“No new girls have been released but by God’s grace, they will be. Happy Christmas, everyone.”

In all, 79 girls have regained freedom over the past two and a half years, bringing the total number of girls who have to spend a third consecutive Christmas with Boko Haram to 197.

Sad Christmas: 31 Dead, 70 Injured As Fireworks Market Explodes.

An explosion has ripped through a fireworks market on the northern outskirts of Mexico City, reportedly killing at least 31 people and injuring 70.

The explosion, which was caught on camera, sent a huge plume of charcoal-grey smoke billowing into the sky over the town of Tultepec, the Guardian reports.

Images broadcast by Milenio TV showed smoke rising from the scorched ground and fireworks stands.

“People were crying everywhere and desperately running in all directions,” said 20-year-old witness Cesar Carmona.

Crescencia Francisco Garcia said she was in the middle of the grid of stalls along with a few hundred others when the thunderous explosions began.

As she ran away she saw people with burns and cuts, and lots of blood.

“Everything was catching fire. Everything was exploding,” Francisco said. “The stones were flying, pieces of brick, everything was flying.”

More than a dozen children suffered burns to over 90% of their bodies and were being sent to the US city of Galveston in Texas for treatment, said Eruviel Avila, the governor of the state of Mexico. The state’s top prosecutor raised the death toll late on on Tuesday to 31.

Avila vowed to find and punish those responsible for the blast and provide economic assistance to those who had lost their livelihoods.

The explosion flattened the San Pablito market which is one of the mainstays of the economy in Tultepec and where many people make a living from manufacturing fireworks – often in clandestine workshops.

The Christmas season brings in brisk business, according to merchants at the market, as Mexicans stock up on pyrotechnics.

Don’t borrow to celebrate Christmas, CAN urges Nigerians

The Coordinating Chaplain, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Peter Ogunmuyiwa, has advised Christians to eschew borrowing money to celebrate yuletide.

He gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja.

The bishop also urged them learn to manage the little resources at their disposal to achieve best result, reminding them that the nation was passing through economic challenges.

“We should learn to revere God; we should embrace him, appreciate him, don’t do things to impress people and don’t do it to the extent of going into debt.

“We are not just doing a birthday party but we are also celebrating the birth of Christ, because He came into this world as God’s special gift to mankind.

“We should be conscious of the presence of God, no matter the situation and the challenges we are facing at this time,” he said.

Mr. Ogunmuyiwa called on Nigerians to keep praying for peace to reign in the country, noting that some parts of the nation were still facing security challenges.

Also speaking with NAN, Daniel Kadzai, President, Youth Wing of CAN called on Christians to celebrate Christmas with love by extending hands of fellowship to the less privileged, orphans and needy.

“We pray for peace in Nigeria and Africa, in spite all our tribulations; let’s stay together in love and unity.

“I call on the youth to give the country a chance for peace to reign.

“Let’s see Christmas as something that we should celebrate no matter how difficult the past years have been.”

He called on Christmas to see Christmas as the best moment for families and friends to come together in brotherhood.

Muslim Woman Donates Rice To Over 50 Christian Widows For Christmas

One Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani had donated some bags of rice and other food stuff to over 50 Christian widows and their families to celebrate the forthcoming Christmas.

Tijjani, a peace ambassador, made the donation to the widows at the Christ Evangelical Church Ministry in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.

She said it was part of her efforts to strengthen peaceful co-existence among different faith-based organizations in the country and reduce the hardship most widows face.

She said that she was always happy to render assistance to widows and elderly persons with their children at every time.

Tijjani advised others with generous minds to emulate her by helping the poor and other needy persons at a season like this.

The peace ambassador said that Christmas provides an opportunity for Muslims to demonstrate to their Christian neighbours that Islam is a religion of peace and love.

Tijjani also commended Pastor Yohanna Buru, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical Church Ministry, for always distributing foods and drinks to IDPs, the destitute and inmates during   Ramadan in past years.

He was always serving cooked foods and drinks to widows and orphans during sallah celebration also, Tijjani said.

She said that Buru’s attitude was what impressed her to start rendering assistance to Christian widows as the Yuletide approaches.

Tijjani advised the Federal Government to create institutes of comparative studies which, according to her, can proffer solutions to ethno-religious crises in the country.

According to her, such an institute will also help ethnic groups to better understand themselves, promote religious tolerance and how they can live with one another in peace, she said.

Also, Pastor Yohanna Buru responding on behalf of his church members commended Tijjani for the donation.

He prayed God to reward her abundantly for her kind gesture to the widows in this period.

Pope tasks Christians on true meaning of Christmas

Pope Francis, on Sunday, at the Catholic festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, urged Christians to reflect on the “true” meaning of Christmas.

Francis made this call during his Sunday Angelus message at the Vatican City.

“Next Sunday will be Christmas Day. In the coming week, please, let’s try to find a moment to stop, be a bit quiet, and imagine the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph on their way to Bethlehem,’’ he said.

“Imagine their journey, their hardship but also their joy, their anxiety about finding a place to stay, their worry, and so on.

“Nativity scenes can help us a lot with this. Let’s try to experience the true Christmas, the Christmas of Jesus,’’ he added.

The Catholic Church has often complained about the increasing commercialisation of Christmas, which is also a secular holiday that most people associate with shopping for the exchange of gifts and big family meals.

In 2011, Francis predecessor, Benedict XVI, said in a Christmas Eve Mass: “Today, Christmas has become a commercial celebration, whose bright lights hide the mystery of God’s humility, which in turn, calls us to humility and simplicity’’.

Francis, who turned 80 on Saturday, also thanked all the people, who had sent him birthday wishes.

Aisha Buhari Donates To Christian Community in Abuja

Aisha Buhari, who was represented by Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, the wife of the Vice-President, said the kind gesture was done out of passion and love.

Why Abakaliki Rice Is Taking Over This Christmas

Demand for Nigerian-grown rice has risen in Calabar amidst rising cost of imported grains.

Local rice looks set to take over kitchens this Christmas, an investigation by News Agency of Nigeria found.

“It is cheaper, more affordable and even sweeter than foreign rice. So I cannot spend as much as N26, 000 just to buy just a bag of rice simply because it is foreign,” said Calabar resident Richard Nku.

“In this Christmas, I am going for locally made rice and that is what my family and everybody in my house will eat until January,’’ he said.

Another resident, Raymond Ubi, said: “I go for our own made rice, no matter what people think about it, I prefer it, in fact I like it more than the so called foreign rice,’’ he said.

A rice farmer, Fidel Egoro, told NAN, “We are under serious pressure to deliver on demand and that is why we cannot accept people paying us through banks.

“We do not have the time to go to the bank, so we prefer cash to save time; many people have placed orders for rice and we are trying to meet up before the close of the season,’’ he said.

With increased demand, it is thought prices of local rice might shoot up before Christmas.

“One bushel of rice (equivalent of half bag) sells for N7,250, while two bushels (equivalent of one bag) sells for N14,500).

“This may increase before the close of the season, depending on changes in cost of production,’’ he said.

Christmas: Lagos to sell bag of rice for N13,000 from December 15

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it was ready to roll out Lake Rice on December 15 to Lagosians at N13,000 per 50 kg towards the Yuletide celebrations.

The sale will come as succour for millions of Lagosians who like their counterparts in most parts of the country have had to pay over N20,000 for a bag of rice, mostly imported.

Sanni Okanlawan, Special Adviser on Food Security to Governor Akinwumi Ambode, made the disclosure in Lagos during the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) National Agriculture Stakeholders Summit.

Mr. Okanlawan said that sales of the rice would be made at all the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state to ensure proper distribution.

“Lake Rice is the acronym of both Lagos and Kebbi States joint product which will be out to the public on December 15 at the rate of N13,000 per 50kg bag as it is already subsidised by the government.

“To make it more available, the rice will be sold at the 57 LGAs and LCDAs for easy accessibility and to guard against unwanted persons diverting the product.

“The state government has put in place a committee that will ensure that Lagosians have the best Christmas celebration, that is why we are offering the wholesome and well packaged rice,” Mr. Okanlawan said.

The special adviser also said that the state had established a Department of Agribusiness, an Agriculture Trust Fund and Commodity Exchange Market to be set up soon.

5-Year Jail Time For Anyone Who Celebrates Christmas In Brunei – Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah

Earlier in April, the rest of the world condemned monarch-ruled Brunei after announcing the introduction of the Sharia penal code that would include penalties such as the severing of limbs and death by stoning.

The tiny but prosperous state on the island of Borneo that is ruled by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah,  has now made international headlines once again after the state announced a ban on Christmas.

The ban was declared on the internationally celebrated Christian holiday because the religious affairs ministry said that publicly marking non-Islamic rituals or festivities could be seen as propagations of religions other than Islam.

Roughly 20 per cent of Brunei’s residents comprise of non-Muslims, including sizeable Buddhist and Christian communities.

Believers of other religions that live under the rule of an Islamic country – according to Islam – may practice their religion or celebrate their religious festivities among their community, with the condition that the celebrations are not disclosed or displayed publicly to Muslims,

Muslims should be careful not to follow celebrations such as these that are not in any way related to Islam… and could unknowingly damage the faith of Muslims.‘ Said the government of Brunei in a statement.

The tough restriction was put in place after children and adults were seen wearing clothes 'that resemble Santa Claus' - thereby promoting a religion other than Islam

The statement also noted that businesses that publicly displayed Christmas decorations would be asked to take them down– to which the businesses had given their ‘full cooperation’ in the matter.

The penalty for celebrating Christmas in Brunei is punishable with a jail term of up to 5-years.

Brunei’s latest decision to ban Christmas officially will no doubt, attract more international criticism- following the harsh Sharia penal code that was announced to be implemented in the state in April by Brunei’s 68-year-old Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

So what is your take on the issue? Let us know!

Shettima To Rebuild Churches Destroyed By Boko Haram Before Christmas

Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno has promised to rebuild churches and other structures destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents in Lassa as he visited liberated communities in the southern senatorial zone of the state

“We will rebuild churches, private and public buildings destroyed by the insurgents,” Mr. Shettima said when he accessed the level of damage in Lassa in Askira-Uba Local Government Area on Wednesday.

He expressed shock at the magnitude of destruction, saying that the government would commence the rehabilitation in a short while.

“We are going to rebuild churches and others structures destroyed in Lassa and other communities around.

“We are saddened by the large scale destruction in Lassa which is a predominantly Christian community,” Mr. Shettima said.

He added: “We are doing this because we have a duty as a government to ensure fairness, equity and justice in all our endeavors,” he said.

“We believe that the Christian community has rights to be served like its Muslims counterpart, since we have rebuilt Mosques destroyed in other places, we must rebuild churches too.”

Mr. Shettima said the churches would be rebuilt before Christmas ahead of this year’s Yuletide.

Christmas: Buhari Urges Nigerians To Exhibit Virtues Of Love, Justice, Service To Others

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the virtues of peace, love, honesty, justice, equity, piety, humility and service to others.

The President made the call in a Christmas message to Nigerians, especially the Christian faithful, as they celebrate this year’s Christmas on Friday.

“I felicitate with all Nigerians, especially our Christian brothers and sisters, on the joyous occasion of this year’s Christmas.

On this occasion of the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, let us all rededicate ourselves to the virtues of peace, love, honesty, justice, equity, piety, humility and service to others which he taught.

There can be no doubt that a greater manifestation of these virtues and ideals in our lives will immensely help us to become a more united, peaceful, secure and progressive nation.’’

Buhari also enjoined Nigerians to reach out in love and compassion to fellow Nigerians who were in distress at this period of the nation’s history.

He, particularly, urged Nigerians to remember victims of terrorism and insurgency in the country, especially Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

According to him, the Federal Government will continue to collaborate with state governments and other stakeholders to ease the harsh conditions in IDP camps.

He said his administration’s ultimate objective was to quickly end insurgency and return the IDPs to their homes.

“We must never again allow any group to hold the nation to ransom under whatever guise.

Let us also not allow current socio-economic and security challenges to dampen our expectations for a better Nigeria,’’ he added.

The President stated that his administration had taken a number of measures to restore hope to the people.

According to him, the 2016 Budget defines his administration’s commitment to giving Nigeria a new lease of life.

“Our change slogan is not a campaign gimmick but a promise that must be kept.’’

He further expressed the determination of the Federal Government to bring about tangible changes in the lives of all Nigerians.

“In this regard, efforts will be intensified to recover stolen funds, block revenue leakages and enthrone due process, transparency and accountability.

“Public office is a public trust that must be held to the highest ethical standards.

“I wish all Nigerians a Merry Christmas.

“Please drive carefully,’’ he said.

Kachikwu Orders Special Fuel Supply For Christmas

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, who is spending time with his constituency in Delta State, has given assurances that from 2016, the country’s oil sector will experience a turn around that will allow the refineries work effectively and then petroleum products will be available to Nigerians at affordable prices.

He said that as a technocrat he would give his best with the opportunity given to him to serve as the Minister of State for Petroleum.

On the current petroleum scarcity, the Minister attributed the situation to panic buying and hoarding, warning all those concerned to demonstrate patriotism.

Meanwhile, Dr Kachikwu has ordered what he called a special petrol supply intervention to ensure a hitch free Christmas and New Year celebration.

This order was given to the Pipeline Products Marketing Company (PPMC) for them to embark on special supply intervention measures to ensure country-wide availability of product ahead of the yuletide and beyond.

The NNPC says that daily fuel trucks which leaves depots to Abuja, Kaduna, Enugu, Kano, Ibadan and Jos has increased significantly.

December Salaries To Come Before Christmas, FG Promises

The office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) says it is upgrading the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) to ensure payment of December salary before Christmas.

The Director of Funds in the office, Mr Mohammed Dikwa, stated this in an interview on Wednesday in Abuja on the sideline of a one-day workshop on the Treasury Single Account and e-payment/collection.

Dikwa said that the system would be shut down over the weekend for the upgrade.

“The essence of the shut down is for maintenance. Some people complained that they couldn’t have access over the last few weeks because of the queue management challenge.

“We want to upgrade the infrastructure that we have over the weekend so that by Monday next week all payments will go on smoothly.

“If you look at the trend, people find it difficult to have access easily because the infrastructure was not strong enough to effectively handle the queue management.

“But with the new improvement, the system will be easily accessed, there will be seamless transactions, and people will get their money before Christmas particularly salaries and other financial commitments of government.

“I want to assure all Federal civil servants that, God willing, they will get their salaries before Christmas because we will try as much as possible to pay the salaries before that time.

“We hope to have the Federation Account Allocation Committee meeting much more earlier and that will give us the room to have more money into the consolidated revenue of the federal government that will be used for the purpose of paying salaries and other commitments of government as far as this financial year is concerned.’’

Kim Kardashain Posts Her PlayBoy Pics As Christmas Present To Fans

Kim Kardashian says she’s working hard to shed some of her baby weight, but while she waits, she’s not above looking at old photos of herself from her pre-Saint days.

Case in point: This recent post on her app, in which she shared some “behind-the-scenes” photos from her December 2007 Playboy cover shoot. “They are so good,” she wrote. “Awww, I look like a baby LOL!” The kind of baby that gets thrown out of preschool for violating the dress code, but sure.

PDP Blames Buhari For Worst Sallah, Bleakest Christmas To Come

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday said the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari and his “apparent lack of viable economic initiatives” were inflicting hardship on Nigerians.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said in a statement that it was disheartening the present administration had remained insensitive and unresponsive to the feelings of Nigerians.
The party said the hardship was occasioned by lack of competent hands in the management nation’s economy.

“Rather than evolving economic initiatives to improve the lot of the citizens, this administration has in the last seven months churned out policies that stifle productivity in the formal and informal sectors, thereby inflicting hardship on them. This has resulted in the semi-destruction of the long-standing extended family system in our society.

“It is a statement of fact that under President Buhari’s watch, the nation has witnessed the gloomiest festive season. Under this government, Nigerians have had the worst Sallah celebration and by all indications, this Christmas season is going to be the bleakest ever.

“More worrisome is the fact that there is no indication that the government has any plan for ameliorating the hardship of the people. Instead, the situation may get worse as this administration, in its lack of economic initiatives, is now rolling up its sleeves to introduce some stringent tax policies, in addition to completely removing the social palliatives Nigerians benefit from.

“On the issue of the persisting fuel queues across the country, we demand that the government come clean. Is it market driven or a product of government conspiracy? Our take is that if indeed it is true that the government has a hand in this fuel crisis, then they should have a rethink and show pity on innocent Nigerians.

“We therefore align with the people in declaring that this administration is unprepared for governance. President Buhari and his party came to power on propaganda, deceit and falsehood and the government has now shown lack of initiatives and the required competence to successfully move the nation forward.

Mr. Metuh said it was saddening that a government that came to power on a mantra of change now seeks to change the ways and means of the very people that they “deceived” into voting for them.

“We advise the government to note that any attempt to increase taxes and duties will overstretch the lean income of ordinary Nigerians and gradually inflict intolerable poverty in the land,” Mr. Metuh said.

FG To Import 26 Cargoes Of Fuel For Christmas– PPMC Boss

The Managing Director of Pipeline & Product Marketing Company (PPMC) says the government plans to import 26 cargoes of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) which equates to about a billion litres.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Mrs Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue said that “we are doing that for the yuletide period so that all Nigerians would have the assurance that fuel would be available when they drive into any filling station”.

Talking about the issue of middlemen in contributing to the major lock jam, the PPMC MD said that “we have talked to the marketers and we heard unofficially that they have to buy products at higher rate than depot prices.

“We have gone to the security agents because if you don’t have evidence, you can’t build up the case.

“We are also working in the depots to see how to gather evidence so that we can prosecute one or two people. We have a fixed depot price which is N77.66 Kobo PMS and if they sell above that, it means they are distorting the economy which is an economy crime”, she explained.

PAUSIBILITY: The Gravitas Of These Tickets by Adebayo Coker

I have not been disturbed, in anyway and at anytime, by the religiousity of anyone in arriving at my conclusion. Your Christianity or Islam, better still, your religious belief is not my problem in as much as you are saddled with a responsibility and you deliver expressly, my unreserved ovation will go to you.

Now that we have Christian-Muslim Ticket on one hand and Muslim-Christian Ticket on the other, where do we go from here? Now that the so much touting of religious hegemony has been removed on both sides of the coin by tjonathansambohe two dominant parties in our polity, I ask you again, where do we go from here? What other vehicle of divisions are these political gunsels going to ride amongst us again?

Now, the ‘bastard’ Salacious Doy is at it again. This time, he is peddling sectionalism as usual since their sectarianism ploy failed. These bad eggs in the society will never rest on their destruction oars. It is left for us to decide if we will allow these idiots to succeed or not.

I do not remember the last time I got a preferential treatment when the mosquito bites came at everyone. I do not remember if at any time a part of the road was reserved for me because I am a Christian. I do not remember being offered any staple from Aso Rock because the man ‘sleeping’ there is a Christian like myself. Sometimes I wonder, what has my Christianity bought for me in the face of this mad touting of political religiosity?

Whether you are have been to Jerusalem or Mecca is not my business ; what I want from you are socio-political deliverables. ChikenaBuhari-Osi1!

I have decided to talk to you directly my dear brothers and sisters. Between now and February 2015, I will be urging us to please not allow ourselves be drawn aback by the many gimmickry of politricks. Look very well before you cast your votes.

The gravitas of any government is to deliver that which government is meant for and in line with that, I urge you to buy only the ‘movie’ ticket that you know will deliver the best.

Thank you and Merry Christmas in advance

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Will Spend Christmas Together

Despite their marital woes, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey will be spending Christmas together with their 3-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan.

“Gotta keep that going. I want to make sure we have a wonderful holiday together,” Cannon told In Touch Weekly. As for where they’ll be celebrating, the America’s Got Talent host replied, “Somewhere cold and snowy, like Aspen [Colorado].”

After months of speculation, Mariah and Nick’s relationship turmoil came to head over the summer. Although no divorce papers have been filed yet, the couple — married for six years —has been living apart.

“We talk and text every day,” Nick told the mag. “My children are my No. 1 priority. Everything I do is for them. I just want to be the best father I can possibly be.”

Oh, I wish it could be Christmas everyday.

Christmas in my family is always a MASSIVE celebration and it gets me wishing everyday could be Christmas. My mum loves cooking on a regular day, so imagine how much food we have every Christmas.

This Christmas was quite exciting. As usual, I found a way to avoid the cooking process, but I was very much involved in the consumption process. My job every Christmas is to take pictures because there are a few people on Facebook who always want to know what my family is up to and it’s only right to give them what they want. And also because most people in my family are quite vain. Can you blame us, though? It’s hard not to be vain when you’re so beautiful.

Anyway, my Christmas was amazing and I hope yours was too.

Below are some of my favourite pictures from Christmas Eve/Day.
