Mother Teresa To Be Made Saint On Sunday By Pope Francis

Mother Teresa of Calcutta, one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century, is set to become a Catholic saint on Sunday in an open-air Mass led by Pope Francis.

Father Brian Kolodiejchuk, the Canadian priest who promoted her sainthood cause, said on Thursday in Vatican that hundreds of thousands of faithful are expected to attend the canonisation service to be led by Pope Francis in front of St. Peter’s basilica.

He said that her canonisation is one of the highlights of Francis’ Jubilee of Mercy.

“Affectionately called the “saint of the gutters” during her lifetime, Mother Teresa of Calcutta will be made an official saint of the Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, just 19 years after her death.

“The Church defines saints as those believed to have been holy enough during their lives to now be in Heaven and able to intercede with God to perform miracles.

“She has been credited with two miracles, both involving the healing of sick people,’’ he said.

Kolodiejchuk said that Mother Teresa was one of the most influential women in the Church’s 2,000-year history, acclaimed for her work amongst the worlds poorest of the poor in the slums of the Indian city now called Kolkata.

He said critics view her differently, arguing she did little to alleviate the pain of the terminally ill and nothing to stamp out the root causes of poverty.

The priest recalled that in 1991, the British medical journal the Lancet visited a home she ran in Kolkata for the dying and said untrained carers failed to recognise when some patients could have been cured.

Kolodiejchuk said her detractors missed the point of her mission, arguing that she had created a place to comfort people in their final days rather than establish hospitals.

“We don’t have to prove that saints were perfect, because no one is perfect,” he said.

He said that several events are planned in the run up to the ceremony, including a prayer vigil on Friday, an audience in St Peter’s Square with Francis on Saturday morning.

Kolodiejchuk said it would be followed in the evening by a veneration of Teresa’s relics in a Roman basilica outside of the Vatican.

Kim has done a few live streams and social media posts since giving birth to new son Saint West, but this is the first time she fully showed her face. “I have just been chilling at home with the baby and being cozy in robes,” Kim said. “I decided to put makeup on,” she said. “My boobs look enormous.”

Kanye West Takes North To Disneyland While Kim Kardashian Stays Home

So cute! Kanye West and Kris Jenner took little North to the Happiest Place On Earth on Dec. 14, while Kim Kardashian continues to recover from giving birth to son Saint just over a week ago. Kourtney and her kids also tagged along — see the pics here!

The Kardashians celebrated Mason and Reign Disick‘s birthdays in the best way possible — with a trip to Disneyland! Kanye West, North, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Penelope, and Corey Gamble also tagged along for the fun-filled day on Dec. 14, but Kim stayed back at home with baby Saint, as she continues to recover after giving birth just over a week ago.

 

Mason was celebrating his sixth birthday, while Reign celebrated his first. And Kanye was a doting dad, as he kept an eye on North throughout the day, Daily Mail reports. At one point, Kanye was even pictured pushing North in a stroller and letting her sit on his lap as they tried out the park’s famous rides. (See ALL the photos here.)

 

One person who was noticeably absent from the birthday party was Scott Disick. Could he have skipped out because he’s upset about Kourtney’s alleged hookups with Justin Bieber? We wouldn’t be surprised, as a source told us EXCLUSIVELY that he’s shocked about their sexcapades.

“Scott is trying to get better, trying to turn over a new leaf and now Kourtney is going out late at night and hooking up with another bad boy — Justin,” a source close to Scott told HollywoodLife.comEXCLUSIVELY, revealing his frustration with the situation. “So, Scott feels like it is a slap to the face. He feels that he is doing what she wants and she is now doing things just to make him feel bad.”

Well, at least everyone seemed to have a good time at Disneyland.

Kim Kardashian is extremely lucky that she did not suffer the same ‘placenta accreta’ issue with her second pregnancy as her first, but a doctor tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that a third pregnancy could be deadly. Here’s why.

The placenta accreta disorder that tainted her first birth could actually kill her if she tries again. We’ll tell you why, here.

 

We’re so happy for Kim that she got to have two beautiful, healthy babies despite her major pregnancy complications, but Dr. Bruce Lee, M.D., a Beverly Hills O.B.G.Y.N. explained EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com why she shouldn’t try it again. “Kim is very fortunate that she did not suffer from placenta accreta with the birth of her second child Saint West.”

“The majority of women who experience placenta accreta with their first pregnancy, are at high riskfor developing the life-threating condition with subsequent births. In fact, the risk of getting placenta accreta increases with every pregnancy,” continued Dr. Lee. “Just because Kim didn’t have placenta accreta with her second pregnancy, doesn’t mean she wouldn’t get it with her third pregnancy. The possibility is quite high.”

So what exactly is “placenta accreta”? You probably remember that during Kim’s first pregnancy, her placenta got attached to the inside of her body, and a doctor had to scrape it off with his fingernails. Yuck. But it’s also super dangerous. So why is this such a threat? “If Kim were pregnant with her third child and went into early labor with placenta accreta there could be massive bleeding,” Dr. Lee told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “Massive bleeding could reduce blood flow and oxygen to the baby, thus harming the baby.”

On top of that, it could hurt Kim. “Kim could suffer from severe vaginal bleeding. The average blood lose is between 3,000-5,000 milliliters. A blood transfusion would be required in 90% of these cases and there is 7% mortality rate for mothers,” said Dr. Lee. 

So, what would Dr. Lee tell Kim if she were his patient? “If I were Kim’s doctor, I would advise her not to take the risk,” he told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “She already has two healthy children. She got away with not getting placenta accreta with her second pregnancy, she shouldn’t tempt fate again.” Poor Kimmy! Luckily, it sounds like she’s currently satisfied with the size of her family. Perhaps if she changes her mind, she should consider adopting. Stay safe, Kim!
