Why We Sacked Randy Lecturer- UNIOSUN

The management of Osun State University, Osogbo has said that a lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics, Dr. Olabode

Wale Ojoniyi who engaged in illicit sex with a female student, Miss Mercy Ikwue, has been sacked because of his immoral act that embarrassed the university.

A member of the Governing Council of the university who preferred anonymity said that the appointment of Ojoniyi with UNIOSUN was terminated after the conclusion of the investigation on the sex tape that captured the lecturer’s illicit sexual affair with Mercy.

The randy lecturer appeared nude in the video, caressing the student. According to the video, Ojoniyi was seen struggling to have sex with Mercy unknown to him that the student was recording his actions.

Students of UNIOSUN who spoke with our correspondent said Ojoniyi was a dubious lecturer and they celebrated his dismissal.

The council member who is also the provost of one of the colleges in UNIOSUN said “I’m not supposed to disclose our decisions and the

rationale behind such decisions to journalists or anyone. Our oath of office does not allow that. Let me just tell you that Dr. Ojoniyi was

sacked because of the disgrace he brought to this university.”

“The Chairman of the Governing Council, Mallam Yusuf Ali, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and all of us felt disgusted over the reckless

action of Dr Ojoniyi and no reasonable and sane person would allow such shameless individual to remain in this citadel of learning. That

was why he was dismissed.”

“The termination of Dr. Ojoniyi’s appointment followed due process. His offence was punishable under the Code of Conduct of Staff of Osun State University, part II, articles 15 and 23. Therefore, his sack was the best decision so as to ensure sanity in the system.”

His conduct derogated his status as a lecturer and betrayed his academic qualification as a PhD holder. In fact, he has come to the

end of his carrier in the academics. He may even be handed over to relevant state authority for prosecution.

Reacting to the allegations of illicit sex against him, Dr Ojoniyi did not deny being the one in the video but he insisted that said he wanted a trial that would be broadcast live a national television.

When asked whether he was aware of the termination of his appointment, Dr. Ojoniyi said the truth would soon come out.

NLC Leader Tagged “Ghost-Worker” Gets Sacked By Kogi Govt

The Kogi State government says the state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Onuh Edoka, is a “ghost worker”, and has fired him.

Mr. Edoka was one of about 9000 people sacked following a screening exercise to weed out illegal workers from the 21 local government areas of the state.

Mr. Edoka, who serves as head of both the Medical Health Workers Union and the NLC in the state, said he was employed in 1989, and currently serves as a Disease and Surveillance Officer in the state.

He said he was baffled by the result of the screening exercise headed by Paul Okuntimo, a retired general, who gained notoriety for his role in the incarceration of the late activist, Saro Wiwa.

“The General’s committee claims that I submitted the wrong bank statements. But they only asked for my statement of accounts for the past two years which I submitted,” Mr. Edoka said in a telephone interview on Wednesday.

Speaking on behalf of the state chapter of the NLC, Mr Edoka said the workers union would take to the streets to challenge the government’s actions.

“The government just got a bailout based on the current staff strength. Suddenly they want to retrench workers to divert the funds even though some of these workers have not been paid for over 23 months,” he said.

“The NLC is saying that these people are not ghost workers. They are living beings and we are ready to bring them out on the streets of Lokoja so that the world can see that they are not ghosts but real workers of Kogi state,” Mr Eboka said.

“I can tell you that the Sheriff and other members are still meeting to deliberate on what transpired at the convention.

“They have invited their lawyers to advise them on the next line of action,” Mr. Bwala said.

He said the meeting might continue till Monday.

Mr. Bwala Mr. Sheriff did not receive any court order stopping the convention until Friday, adding that the four court orders received on that day were “parallel and conflicting.”

He said in order not to violate any of the orders, Mr. Sheriff called a meeting of the NWC and other organs who advised that the convention be suspended.

NANS Urges Buhari To Reinstate Sacked Vice Chancellors

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) are calling on the Federal Government to reinstate the Vice Chancellors of thirteen federal universities who were sacked over a month ago.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, National President of the Association, Comrade Tijani Shehu, said the sacking was unjustly done by the government in violation of rules governing the appointment of vice chancellors.

The Association appeals to the Minister of Education to advise President Buhari properly in order to reverse the sacking of the thirteen vice chancellors which they described as unconstitutional.

The Federal Government of Nigeria had earlier in the year sacked and appointed Vice Chancellors (VC) of Federal Universities established by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Why President Buhari Sacked AMCON MD

The removal of the Managing Director of the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), Mustafa Chike-Obi, by President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday was prompted by alleged cumulative offences committed by the former MD and his team, administration insiders and former members of the company’s board have said.

“The president has been inundated by complaints about the politicisation of AMCON by its leadership and the lack of transparency in the disposition of assets,” a presidency source said.

“The President had to act to halt the drift in the organisation, and restore efficiency and independence to its operations.”

This newspaper also learnt that the Ahmed Joda-led Transition Committee reported to the President that it observed lack of transparency and competitiveness in the way the company disposed of assets.

“The establishment of AMCON has been a central part of the reform agenda,” the committee said in its report. “Critical attention should be taken to ensure efficiency in its mandate.”

Texas Policeman Who Killed Black Teen Sacked

A policeman who killed an unarmed black teenager during a suspected burglary at a Texas car dealership last week has been fired for “making decisions that had catastrophic outcomes”, the city’s police chief said.

Arlington officer Brad Miller, 49, could also face criminal charges once police complete their investigation, Will Johnson, the police chief, said.

Johnson said Miller caused a deadly confrontation that put him and other officers in danger.

The death of Christian Taylor, 19, came two days before the anniversary of the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed, black 18-year-old who was fatally shot by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

Brown’s death helped spur protests and a nationwide “Black Lives Matter” movement to demand reforms to how police treat minorities.

Arase Confirmed IGP As Jonathan Gives Reasons Abba Was Sacked

The Police Council yesterday confirmed Mr Solomon Arase as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

His confirmation came exactly three weeks when he was appointed ?Acting IGP on April 21 after President Goodluck Jonathan sacked former IGP Suleiman Abba.

Arase,  who is the 18th  IGP, is one of the fastest police bosses to be confirmed.

This is even as President Jonathan explained that Abba was sacked because  the rank and file under him were very indisciplined.

Arase told State House correspondents, “?I have just been confirmed.”

The IGP said: “We talked about the security challenges we are having? and our strategic responses to addressing them. I can assure Nigerians that we are going to address these issues”.

On what he was bringing on board since his confirmation was coming at a time Nigeria is said to be experiencing the worst security situation in recent times, he said, “No, I don’t think that is true. ?I don’t think it is the worst security situation we are facing. There is no society that is actually crime-free, but we are trying to ensure that it is within tolerable level. It is not as bad as the public perceived it.

To his officers and men as well as Nigerians; Arase said: “To my men, I will tell them that their welfare will be number one on ?my cardinal responsibilities. You don’t motivate a workforce except their welfare is paramount. I’m going to ensure that their welfare is going to be put on the front burner.

“To Nigerians, I know that their expectations are high, but I can assure them that no Nigerian will suffer any injustice by my inaction or action”.

On the banning of roadblocks, he said, “we already have an enforcement policy in place. Sixteen teams have moved out across the length and breadth of this country to ensure there is strict compliance to that order”.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Police Service Commission and former IGP, Sir Mike Okiro, said the council discussed issues bordering on security and how to ensure that Nigerians live in peace.

On why Abba was removed, Okiro said going by the explanation President Jonathan gave when one of the governors raised the question, the rank and file under him were very indisciplined.

Okiro said: “I may not attempt to answer that question because I’m not part of the Presidency that removed him, so I cannot give adequate answer. Though at the meeting, he tried to explain to members, based on the question raised by one of the governors that Nigerians may want to know why the former IGP was removed.

“The President, very briefly said, during the period of the former IGP, a lot of indiscipline was noticed among the rank and file of the police and as such, he felt that a new IGP should come and try his luck. That is what he said, though I cannot give details of that.” Okiro noted.
