JUST IN: Protesters Attempt To Burn Hospital After Another UNIOSUN Student’s Death

Protesting students of Osun State University have attempted to set a hospital ablaze, accusing the hospital of not giving a fellow student who died there adequate care.

The students also blocked the Osogbo-Ibokun highway for several hours before policemen eventually dispersed them.

Channels Television also learnt that the management of the institution had handed over the corpse of the late student to her parents.

Feyisara Odeyinka, 19, an anatomy student at the school, died at a private hospital in Oke-Baale, where she was taken after a sickle cell anemia crisis.

The doctor at the hospital told other students who brought Feyisara that the girl would be on admission but the patient declined and insisted that she wanted to return to her hostel.

It was learnt that her case degenerated later at the hostel and her colleagues took her back to the same hospital, where she eventually died while receiving treatment.

Her death triggered another protest, as students of the university attempted to set the hospital ablaze, accusing the doctor of not given her adequate medical attention when her case became worse.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Folasade Odoro, told Channels Television’s correspondent, Bosede Sodiq, that police would ensure proper investigation into the death of the student and advised other students to remain calm and allow peace to reign.

In the meantime, the management of the institution has directed all students to go home for seven days in order to calm frayed nerves and to be able to avoid breakdown of law and order.

The pandemonium broke out around the students’ hostel at University road in Oke-Baale area of Osogbo, capital of Osun state on Monday evening as a result of the bloody clash by the UNIOSUN students.

The reason for the fight among the students is however still uncertain.

“Some of our students invested their school fees in MMM”, says UNIOSUN VC

Several students of Osun State University have been unable to pay their school fees due to their investment in Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, a popular Ponzi scheme.

Labode Popoola, vice chancellor of the university, on Saturday told Punch that students owe an estimated N2bn in school fees.

The professor said the institution would ensure that the undergraduates pay their tuition regardless of whether they are able to recoup their money from MMM.

He noted that the school’s registration portal would only be re-opened if many students pay their outstanding fees.

Popoola said: “Some of them (students) used their school fees to invest in MMM. But whether MMM comes back or not, it is their headache. I have told them that we are not going to open the portal.

“If I see that a critical mass of the students pay, then we will decide to open the portal just for about 48 hours. But they must pay first.

“This is how we accumulated a debt profile of over N2bn, we cannot continue this way. They just have to pay the money.”

The MMM Ponzi scheme went on break in December and recently announced the resumption of activities but it’s yet to be determined whether investors have started getting paid.

DSS apprehends killers of UNIOSUN student

The Department of State Security Service (DSS), Osun State Command, has apprehended a herbalist, simply identified as Jelili also known as Ifa (oracle) and a commercial driver, Elijah Oyebode for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 400 Level student of Osun State University, Osogbo, Adebisi Rofiat Damilola.

The driver confessed that the herbalist gave him the assignment to bring a young lady and get N10,000 (ten thousand) as reward. Elijah said Rofiat boarded his vehicle from Ipetu-Ijesa to Osogbo while returning from the Ipetu-Ijesa campus of UNIOSUN where the lady was studying Science Education.

It would be recalled that Rofiat who left Ipetu-Ijesa for Osogbo on December 22nd, 2016 got missing along the way and her corpse was found on the roadside along Ikirun/Iragbiji road few days later.

Elijah who spoke with Daily Trust in Yoruba language said “I took her (Rofiat) from Ipetu-Ijesa. There were other passengers in my vehicle that day. The girl matched the specification that Ifa (herbalist) gave me. Ifa said I should bring a lady that has never bore a child. When I saw the student, I was sure very that she had not given birth to a
child”.

He continued “Ifa had given me a charm that I will use to hypnotise any lady that I want to bring. He said once I put the charm in my pocket, I only need to have body contact with the lady and she would be hypnotised. The charm was already in my pocket when I saw the lady and I ensured that my body touched her. From there, she didn’t know anything again.

“After dropping other passengers at the various destinations, I took the lady to Ifa at his house in Ikirun and he received her and gave me N10,000. I pity the lady when I was leaving because I knew she would not come out alive. My conscience was telling me that what I did was bad”.

“When I left Ifa’s house, I went to a bush to dump the lady’s luggage which contained some clothes. Few minutes later, her phone started ringing. I knew her people must be looking for her. I took the phone to Yusuff to help me sell it. I told Yusuff that a passenger forgot the phone in my vehicle”.

“The phone kept ringing and I later picked it. Yusuff told me that it was dangerous to receive the call because they could use it to trace us. I removed the SIM card and threw it away instantly to prevent her people from reaching us. We sold the phone for N20,000. We shared it N10,000 each”.

While speaking with Daily Trust, the herbalist said the driver was telling lie and that Elijah was just his contract driver that he used occasionally.

Sex scandal: Sacked UNIOSUN lecturer seeks open probe.

Sacked lecturer of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Dr. Bode Ojoniyi, has called for an independent review of the circumstances surrounding an alleged sex-tape involving him and a female student of the institution, which led to the termination of his appointment.

Ojoniyi has petitioned the Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Yusuf Ali (SAN), calling for a review of the issues leading to his dismissal.

Until his disengagement last week, Ojoniyi was a lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics, Ikire Campus of UNIOSUN.

In the petition, the embattled lecturer faulted the grounds on which his dismissal was based, and wondered why he would be sacked on the pages of newspaper without any official communication to him.

According to him, his brawl with some powerful forces in his Department and the university began “when I insisted that justice must be done in a case of manipulation of results of the 400Level 2013/2014 Session of the Department of Languages and Linguistics by a certain lecturer in the department”.

Ojoniyi stated that the lady in the purported sex video tape, which the university relied on to sack him, severally confessed before various panels set up by the institution to look into the matter, that there was neither a case of harassment, coercion, nor sex-for-marks.

In an audio recording tagged, “Dr. Bode Ojoniyi vs Prof. Alebiosu Panel – Uniosun”, which he attached to the petition, the lecturer alleged that “there was an attempt to get him to agree to certain terms and to meet certain people for a settlement of some issues”.

Why We Sacked Randy Lecturer- UNIOSUN

The management of Osun State University, Osogbo has said that a lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics, Dr. Olabode

Wale Ojoniyi who engaged in illicit sex with a female student, Miss Mercy Ikwue, has been sacked because of his immoral act that embarrassed the university.

A member of the Governing Council of the university who preferred anonymity said that the appointment of Ojoniyi with UNIOSUN was terminated after the conclusion of the investigation on the sex tape that captured the lecturer’s illicit sexual affair with Mercy.

The randy lecturer appeared nude in the video, caressing the student. According to the video, Ojoniyi was seen struggling to have sex with Mercy unknown to him that the student was recording his actions.

Students of UNIOSUN who spoke with our correspondent said Ojoniyi was a dubious lecturer and they celebrated his dismissal.

The council member who is also the provost of one of the colleges in UNIOSUN said “I’m not supposed to disclose our decisions and the

rationale behind such decisions to journalists or anyone. Our oath of office does not allow that. Let me just tell you that Dr. Ojoniyi was

sacked because of the disgrace he brought to this university.”

“The Chairman of the Governing Council, Mallam Yusuf Ali, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and all of us felt disgusted over the reckless

action of Dr Ojoniyi and no reasonable and sane person would allow such shameless individual to remain in this citadel of learning. That

was why he was dismissed.”

“The termination of Dr. Ojoniyi’s appointment followed due process. His offence was punishable under the Code of Conduct of Staff of Osun State University, part II, articles 15 and 23. Therefore, his sack was the best decision so as to ensure sanity in the system.”

His conduct derogated his status as a lecturer and betrayed his academic qualification as a PhD holder. In fact, he has come to the

end of his carrier in the academics. He may even be handed over to relevant state authority for prosecution.

Reacting to the allegations of illicit sex against him, Dr Ojoniyi did not deny being the one in the video but he insisted that said he wanted a trial that would be broadcast live a national television.

When asked whether he was aware of the termination of his appointment, Dr. Ojoniyi said the truth would soon come out.

UNIOSUN sacks randy lecturer involved in sex video.

The Governing Council of the Osun State University, Osogbo, has terminated the appointment of Dr. Olabode Ojoniyi of the Department of Languages and Linguistics, Ikire Campus, caught on video having an amorous relationship with one of his students, Mercy Ikwue.

Our correspondent gathered on Sunday that the Governing Council headed by Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN, sacked the lecturer, who appeared nude on a bed in a hotel room and caressing Miss Ikwue.

A member of the Governing Council confirmed the sacking of Ojoniyi to our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday.

He said, “The Council met last week and the report of the panel that investigated Ojoniyi’s amorous affair with the female student was deliberated upon. His appointment was terminated because that is the penalty stated in the Code of Conduct of Staff of Osun State University.”

Apart from the member of the Governing Council, three other lecturers including two professors confirmed to our correspondent that Ojoniyi had been sacked.

Part II articles 15 and 23 of the Code of Conduct for Staff and Students of UNIOSUN read, “ An academic staff shall not conduct himself/ herself in relation to students in such a manner that derogates from his status as a lecturer, examiner and adviser. Specifically, sexual harassment of students by (members of) staff is totally forbidden. Any (member of) staff found guilty of sexual harassment shall be dismissed from the service of the university and may be handed over to relevant state authority for prosecution.

“An academic (member of) staff shall not demand from students any gratification whether in cash or in kind including sexual gratification in the discharge of his/her lawful duties. Breach of this code shall warrant appropriate sanction ranging from warning to termination of appointment depending on the gravity of the offence.”

Ojoniyi’s sex act was captured in a video which is believed to have been surreptitiously recorded by the female student.

The female student was said to have been pressurised by Ojoniyi for sex and she eventually agreed and followed him to their agreed place with a laptop computer from which she pretended to be watching a movie, Things Fall Apart. Unknown to him, Miss Ikwue was actually recording their sexual activities.

Ojoniyi had accused one of the lecturers of the university, who was recently dismissed for an alleged misconduct as the person behind the drama. According to him, the lady was contracted to blackmail him. But Ojoniyi did not deny being the one in the video.

The video clip went viral afterwards and Ojoniyi, when contacted by our correspondent did not deny that he was the one in the video and did not say his image was manipulated. He only blamed his detractors for the incident.

The Acting Registrar of UNIOSUN, Bayo Shittu, who doubles as the secretary of the council, did not pick repeated calls put across to his telephone line.

He had yet to reply to the text sent to him to officially confirm the sacking as of the time of filing this report.

A professor at the university recently resigned his appointment over the alleged rape of a female student in his office.

Some lecturers and students of the university told our correspondent that the professor knew that he would be sacked if the case was investigated and he hurriedly resigned to prevent the embarrassment which would follow.
