BREAKING: Thugs attack office of Sheriff-led PDP faction in Ekiti

People suspected to be political thugs on Tuesday attacked the office of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Ali Modu Sheriff in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.

They vandalised the property and tore the flags erected at the premises, which is the office of a leader of the party, Chief Williams Ajayi at Nova road, Adebayo area in the city.

Speaking to journalists on the incident, the Deputy Chairman of the group, Olasunkanmi Ogunbiyi accused the Gboyega Oguntuase-led faction, allegedly loyal to Governor Ayodele Fayose and Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi as masterminding the attack.

The Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti in a judgement delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo on January 24 this year declared Ajayi the authentic chairman before the Court of Appeal ordered a stay of execution of the ruling.According to Ogunbiyi: “The assailants scaled the fence and destroyed all the flags and shattered the windows of our office. We suspect that Oguntuase’s people are behind this and we need prompt action from the security agencies.”

Reacting to the allegation, the Publicity Secretary of Oguntuwase-led PDP in the state, Jackson Adebayo, said the claim was part of the plan to tarnish the image of the party in the state.

Meanwhile, the party has described the former governor of the state and Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi as a bad loser who is seeking power through the backdoor.

Reacting to a newspaper interview granted by Fayemi, where he described the 2014 election, which he lost as an “unfinished business”, the state chairman of the party, Gboyega Oguntuase in a statement advised the former governor to “bury the thought that he could achieve through the backdoor what the people of Ekiti denied him in a free, fair and credible election.”

“Fayemi and his cohorts went to court after the 2014 election and lost all the way from the tribunal through the Appeal Court to the Supreme Court. He is now boasting that he will cause the Supreme Court to reverse its judgment on the Ekiti election, but he will fail,” Oguntuase said.

There was widespread violence during the election.

Akeredolu Accuses Oke Of Thugs Importation To Cause Violence

The Aketi Campaign Platform, the campaign group of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has raised the alarm over alleged importation of thugs from Lagos and Osun states for attacks on APC members and cause violence in the Saturday governorship election.

A statement by the spokesman of the campaign platform, Soji Alakuro, alleged that the thugs were being sponsored by Lagos and Osun governments in alleged active connivance of the governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, to unleash violence on Ondo State to help the candidate of the Alliance of Democracy, Olusola Oke, in the weekend governorship election.

Alakuro expressed dismay at the desperation of Lagos and Osun States’ governors in Ondo State election, wondering while the governors elected on the platform of APC would be working against their party in favour a party that had no roots and no single councilor across the country.

Akeredolu’s spokesman added that Fayose’s connection was baffling, wondering while a governor elected on the platform of PDP would abandon his party to work for the success of the opposition party in Ondo State.

Berating the three governors for their acts of desperation in Oke’s support, he said AD’s allegation of rigging against the Minister of Solid Minerals and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi; Works and Power Minister, Babatunde Fasola, Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai was a smokescreen to cover their alleged evil plan.

He added that the latest discovery followed alleged deployment of N10b by Lagos State government to help Oke win the election “to allow Lagos and Osun axis control the economic and political destiny of Ondo State people”.
He said: “We have it on good authority that fierce-looking thugs are being housed at Oke’s expansive home and other adjoining streets in Ijapo Estate.

“Members of the public can recollect that media reports had earlier indicated that Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State working with Fayose had earlier ferried suspected Niger Delta militants to Ekiti State during his last visit to Ondo and Ekiti states in readiness for deployment for Ondo election.

“Reports indicated that Dickson was allegedly coordinating the recruitment of the militants from the Niger Delta while Fayose is complementing this with the deployment of a factional local ethnic militia called OPC under a disguised name of ‘Vigilante’ all lodged in Ekiti State Government House for onward deployment in Ondo State to cause violence to rig election in Oke’s favour while they take over the media to turn around that APC is planning to rig.

“What the desperados are doing is called reversed psychology, where planners of evils accuse the innocent of planning evils.

“They had earlier disbursed billions of their state funds to back Oke, part of which they spent to book all the hotels in Akure to enable their thugs lodge there.”

He urged security agents to comb all hotels in the state capital to fish out the thugs that were allegedly armed to disrupt Saturday’s election “if it does not go Oke’s way”.

Assuring voters that security agents would protect them from “desperate acts of outside sponsors with the eye to control Ondo’s economy,” he charged Ondo people to resist attempt by Oke to sell Ondo State to “outside sponsors who are desperate to recoup their money through manipulation of contracts and appointments”.

Urging voters to vote for Akeredolu as “independent-minded candidate who is also sincere about the development of the state and its citizens”, Alakuro said: “Media reports as contained in Thisday newspaper of November 18, 2016 indicated that Oke has ceded the positions of the SSG, chairmanship of OSOPADEC), commissioner for finance, commissioner for works, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, commissioner for health and the headship of Ondo State Board of Internal Revenue to his Lagos and Osun sponsors.

“Other positions ceded by Oke to Lagos and Osun in his deal with his sponsors, according to the newspaper, include six caretaker committee chairmanship positions, two per senatorial district; four special advisers, while Aregbesola’s former Special Adviser, Bola Ilori, is tipped for Secretary to State Government (SSG).

“Lagos-based chartered accountant, Mr Adebo Akinbobola, according to the report, will take the position of commissioner for finance while one Dr Taiwo Malumi is chosen by the former Lagos governor for the chairmanship of OSOPADEC.”

Warning the voters against sale into slavery, he urged them to vote for Akeredolu “who emerged as APC’s candidate through due process of people’s support” and who would work in the interest of Ondo people and not for any outside sponsors.

Kogi Election Tribunal: Thugs Stone Wada

It was a near-tragic outing for former Governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, on Tuesday as thugs hauled stones at his vehicle at the State governorship election tribunal sitting at the Jabi district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The incident occurred about 1:35 pm at the premises of an Abuja High Court where the tribunal was located.

Wada was at the tribunal where he is challenging the return of Alhaji Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the November 21, and December 5, state governorship election.

The thugs who besieged his vehicle outside the tribunal chanting solidarity songs in favour of APC, later went wild and started hauling stones at his vehicle.

His driver sensing danger quickly sped off at a neck- breaking speed even as security operatives were left helpless.

Reacting to the development, the governor described the attack on him as barbaric, acts of beastality and in responsibility to recourse to acts of thuggery.

His Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Jacob Edi who spoke on the matter condemned the development in its totality.

“To think that this took place in the premises of a court of law is highly condemnable whoever their paymasters are. For us, no condition will make us recourse to thuggery.

“Thuggery in obsolete and no longer lucrative. One of the cardinal achievements of Capt. Wada is that he put an end to thuggery because he believed that energies of the youth should be put into productive use and not destructive acts.”

Meanwhile, the tribunal has adjourned hearing of the petition between the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Yahaya Bello to April 11 and 12, 2016.
The petition by Labour Party (LP) against Yahaya Bello was adjourned to April 6 and 7, 2016.

In the petition by Wada, proceedings were stalled following the inability of counsel to parties to resolve the issues arising from the schedule of documents to be tendered by the petitioner.

Accordingly, the tribunal adjourned till April 13.

Wada’s petition, which is been handled by Chief Chris Uche, (SAN) leading two other Senior Advocates of Nigeria among other lawyers, had the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Alhaji Bello and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as respondents.

I Was Held Hostage By Sylva’s Thugs- Oshiomhole

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Wednesday, narrated how he escaped from the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, venue of the 2015 governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress, after he was held hostage for hours during the exercise which was marred by violence.

He said, “I was appointed with six other members from the APC to conduct the governorship primary in Bayelsa State. The exercise took place yesterday (Tuesday) and, somehow, thugs took over the sports complex where the exercise was to take place.

“They practically prevented the actual delegates from participating and as a result, we could not proceed with the exercise. The committee was virtually held hostage, including my humble self and, this time, they were supervised unfortunately by one of the aspirants, the former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva, who said to my face and to the committee that we could not leave the venue of the conference unless we conducted the exercise without accreditation, as prescribed by the national secretariat.”

Oshiomhole wondered why the former governor insisted on his own position rather than that prescribed by the national leadership of the APC.

He said, “Whereas all the aspirants agreed with the guidelines, it was only Sylva that did not. He rejected the mode of accreditation and chose to accuse the national secretariat of formulating the guidelines to frustrate his ambition.

“Every effort made to reassure him and direct his attention to the fact that same guidelines had been used (before) and that they are standard guidelines that would be used in future elections fell on deaf ears.”
