Thailand’s New King Makes First Public Appearance

Thailand’s new king on Friday made his first public appearance since ascending the throne the previous day, ending a period of uncertainty since the death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, on Oct. 13.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, 64, took part in a merit-making ceremony at Bangkok’s Grand Palace to mark 50 days since his father’s death plunged the country into grief.

Civil servants dressed in black and white, the official colors of mourning, lined the streets to the palace as the new king’s convoy passed.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who was then the crown prince, surprised some when he asked to delay his succession following the death of his father, leaving the throne unoccupied for seven weeks.

His official taking of the throne, in a brief ceremony televised late on Thursday, ends that unprecedented interregnum while raising new questions about the palace’s relationship with the generals who have been in power since a 2014 coup.

The military government has made it clear it wants to oversee economic and political developments for years to come, even after a general election it has promised to hold in 2017.

This Lady Makes History As First Beauty Contestant To Wear Hijab In The US (PHOTOS)

Halima Aden is flawlessly breaking down barriers in the pageant community: Over the weekend, the 19-year-old made history as the first contestant in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant to wear a hijab throughout the competition and a burkini during the swimsuit round.

The Somali-American teenager, who was born in a Kenyan refugee camp and moved to America when she was just six years old, ultimately made it to the pageant’s semifinals on Sunday. But as she told multiple sources both before and after the pageant was over, despite not winning, she hoped her participation would serve as a reminder that beauty comes in many different forms.

“A lot of people will look at you and will fail to see your beauty because you’re covered up and they’re not used to it. So growing up, I just had to work on my people skills and give people a chance to really know me besides the clothing,” she said in an interview with KARE-11. “Be who you are. It’s easy to feel like you have to blend in, but it takes courage to live your life with conviction and embrace the person that you are.”

Local Vehicle Manufacturer IVM Makes Parts For Nigerian Jet Fighters

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar has applauded the management of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company for its support to the military by providing technical support that has enabled the Nigerian Air Force to sustain its operations against the Boko Haram insurgents.

The Air Force revealed on Wednesday, that Innoson ‘helped to locally modify and overhaul the brake assembly of the MB-339 aircraft for adoption on the Alpha Jets’ and also ‘helped for the continued operation of the Alpha Jets, and had helped to save the day when help was not forthcoming from abroad’.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa.

In the statement, Abubakar said the contribution of Innoson deserves national recognition and award, due to the important role played by the Alpha Jet in the ongoing counter insurgency operations in North East Nigeria.

“The collaboration between the NAF and IVM is in line with one of the key drivers of the CAS vision which is strategic partnership with ministries, departments and agencies for enhanced research and development.”

“Beyond the feat, the NAF is poised to exploit the possibilities of mass producing the Alpha Jet break assembly and other parts locally by partnering with IVM, as well as other credible organisations, to build own capacity for enhanced self-reliance.”

“Our partnership with IVM would not end with the Alpha jet break assembly but a leeway to forge new frontiers, through research and development, to replicate some of the spares needed by our platforms” the CAS said.

Abubakar added that the feat has not only saved the country huge foreign exchange that otherwise would have been spent abroad but also adding value to Nigerians through provision of job opportunities.

Woman Makes Bread Using Yeast From Her Vagina

Feminist blogger Zoe Stavri, who writes at Another Angry Woman, woke up on Saturday with the typical signs of a yeast infection, she wrote in a blog post.

But due to her self-described “slightly perverse sense of humor,” she decided to try baking bread with her yeast. So she retrieved some yeast using a dildo, combined it with flour and water, and covered it up so the yeast could do its job. She started making the sourdough starter on Saturday afternoon, and so far, so good… see result above.
