No Mercenaries Involved In Fight Against Boko Haram- Military

The military said yesterday that it had both the capacity and capability to defeat the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists in the North East, and so would not engage mercenaries to achieve such feat.

In a statement from the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, released by the Acting Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, the military insisted that it had the ability to clear the remnants of the terrorists from the area without seeking any assistance of mercenaries. It said the statement was in response to a media report that it was considering the engagement of mercenaries in its prosecution of the war in the North East.

The statement read: “We read with dismay the disturbing newspaper report on Wednesday 9 November claiming that foreign mercenaries would be used to fight Boko Haram. “This story is not only mischievous and unfounded but also lacks merit and far from the truth.

“The DHQ wishes to state with emphasis that the Nigerian Armed Forces has the capacity and capability to clear the remnants of the terrorists from our land and that is what the military has been doing.

“It is not necessary or logical to go for mercenaries after the battle of Boko Haram insurgent had been won.

“The pocket of attacks witnessed in the last few days by the fleeing Boko Haram terrorists are isolated cases, though regrettable.

‘’That does not call for serious concern as it is not uncommon worldwide for such occurrence in any area that was once infested by terrorist groups.

“Those peddling rumours on the use of mercenaries are mischievous. They have done it before and failed and are at it again.

“Surely, they will definitely fail this time also. The unprecedented successes recorded against the deadly Boko Haram sect by the Nigerian military without seeking external force is there for all to see.

“The DHQ, therefore, urges our patriotic citizens to ignore the senseless talk and dismiss the story in its entirety as it was concocted to serve inglorious selfish interest.”

Chagoury Denies Using Donations To Clinton Foundation For State Dept Favours

Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire, Mr. Gilbert Chagoury, has denied United States media reports alleging that he capitalised on his donations to the Clinton Foundation to seek favours from the US Department of State, when Democratic Party presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State.

Following donations of between $1 million and $5 million to the Clinton Foundation, an aide of former President Bill Clinton, Doug Band, was reported to have pushed for access for Chagoury after Hillary Clinton took over at the State Department.

In 2009, Band wrote his friends in the department. “We need Gilbert Chagoury to speak to the substance guy in Lebanon. As you know he’s key guy there and to us and is loved in Lebanon. Very imp.”

Huma Abedin, a longtime aide and confidante to Clinton and now vice-chairwoman of her presidential campaign, had suggested to former U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Jeffrey D. Feltman.

However, the Los Angeles Times newspaper quoted both Feltman and Chagoury’s friend and spokesman Mark Corallo on Monday as saying that no meeting ever happened.

Chagoury wanted only to pass along insights on Lebanese politics, Corallo said, adding that “nothing ever came off it” and that Chagoury never talked to anyone at the State Department. Band declined to comment, reported the L.A. Times.

When Band’s email was made public this month, Republican Party presidential candidate and real estate billionaire Donald Trump had pounced on it, calling the Chagoury episode “illegal” and a “pay-to-play” scheme.

In the report, the L.A. Times described Chagoury as one of Africa’s richest men, who has built a reputation as a giant of global philanthropy.

MEND Accuses Jonathan For Using Avengers To Destabilise Buhari’s Govt

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta says it has been vindicated by the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers’ allegation that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a grand patron of new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers.

MEND claimed in a statement on Tuesday that Jonathan was sponsoring the NDA to destabilise the government of his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The statement signed by one Jomo Gbomo was MEND’s response to Jonathan’s denial of the allegation by the RNDA, linking the ex-President with the new militant group.

The full text of the statement was made available to online news platform, SaharaReporters by MEND.

MEND said it was highly infuriated by Jonathan’s rebuttal of the RNDA earlier claim, particularly his declaration that Henry Okah was after his life rather than clear the air on the allegation.

The statement said, “MEND cannot hold brief for the RNDA, which pointedly accused Mr. Jonathan of complicity in fueling the ongoing Niger Delta crisis and patronising the NDA, apparently for political reasons.

“We are, however, quick to point out the fact that the RNDA has merely vindicated MEND’s belief and conviction that the former President and his cronies, who lost the 2015 presidential election, were using the illegal and treasonable NDA platform to destabilise President Buhari’s government.”

Thai Village Using Feces To Power Homes

Nestled in a deep pocket of forest that lies off Thailand’s electrical grid, villagers in Pa Deng have become early adopters and evangelists for an unusual alternative energy source: poop.

After successfully lighting up their homes with solar panels and stoves fueled by cow dung, the villagers are now clean energy crusaders in a gas-guzzling country that overwhelmingly relies on fossil fuels.

It was a friend from Myanmar who first told 44-year-old Wisut Janprapai that faeces could be used to power a cooking stove.

“At first we didn’t believe it,” he told AFP from outside his wooden home, which is surrounded by fruit trees and under the shadow of a mountain range that lines Thailand’s western border with Myanmar.

But with no access to state power lines and plenty of cow manure to go around, Wisut and his neighbours reasoned it was worth a try.

Now nearly 100 families in the rural network have small stoves running on blue bio-gas balloons they crafted after years of experimenting.

The balloons are hulking polyester sacks that fill up with methane gas after microbes break down the animal manure and other organic waste packed inside.

The fuel source is healthier and more sustainable than burning wood, and also saves villagers from having to venture into the forest for kindling.

“It’s nothing complicated, just put the food and waste in,” explained Kosol Saengthong, the leader of the network. “And then the gas will come”.

Woman Who Made Bread Using Yeast From Her Vagina Ate The Bread

British Blogger Zoe Stavri whipped the Internet up into a frothy bread mix frenzy earlier this week, after writing about a sourdough loaf she’d begun to make from scratch, leavened with yeast from a vaginal infection. She sourced the yeast with the help of a dildo.

Her first tweets on the subject chronicled her yeast making her dough rise — “IT’S ALIVE”! she wrote, in an acceptable use of all caps — and a blog post also documented the criticism she’d received on social media in response. Noting much of the hate came from apparently grossed-out men, Stavri argues that “the vast majority of the utter horror about my sourdough isn’t anything to do with ignorance on food hygiene, but more to do with a general mistrust and horror at vag.”

Woman Makes Bread Using Yeast From Her Vagina

Feminist blogger Zoe Stavri, who writes at Another Angry Woman, woke up on Saturday with the typical signs of a yeast infection, she wrote in a blog post.

But due to her self-described “slightly perverse sense of humor,” she decided to try baking bread with her yeast. So she retrieved some yeast using a dildo, combined it with flour and water, and covered it up so the yeast could do its job. She started making the sourdough starter on Saturday afternoon, and so far, so good… see result above.

Buhari Bars Ministers From Using Large Convoys

President Muhammadu Buhari has outlawed the use of large convoys and retinue of aides by the ministers-designate.

This revelation was made by a minister-designate, Dr. Chris Ngige, who briefed State House correspondents at the end of a two-day retreat held for the 36 ministers-designate at the Presidential Villa on Friday.

According to him, the order was in line with the nation’s economic reality.

Asked whether Buhari told them anything about the economy, Ngige said: “Yes, lean economy because we are going to block areas of leakages, retinue of aides, protocol staff, large convoys of cars are things that will not fly in this administration.”

On ongoing debates on portfolios for ministers, he said: “If you have portfolio, if you don’t have portfolio, it is one single Federal Executive Council (FEC). You bring whatever it is on the table. That is not a problem at all. We have a right to discuss things around the ministries because it is one single cabinet.

“The important thing is that we want to move our people from where they are now, they are in abject poverty which concerns about 75 percent of the populace.
“So, we need to actually restructure the political and social moment of the country and that is what we are going to do. That means poverty will reduce.”
