Wike Denies Plan To Dump PDP

Rivers State Governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, has denied media reports that he is planning to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a yet-to-be new political party.
Wike, is one of the PDP state governors backing the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee of the party, and has remained one of the voices of the opposition in the present democratic dispensation.
The media have been awash with reports that the governor, along with other state governors, is planning to join forces with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to float a new political party, ahead of the 2019 general elections.
But, Wike, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, Barrister Chris Itamunola, told newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday that there is no aota of truth in the report.
Insisting that the report lacks credibility, the governor stated that the allegations were mere speculations arising from his openness to interact with people irrespective of their party affiliations.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, has called on the people of the state to come out enmasse and vote for PDP candidates during the legislative rerun elections scheduled to hold on December 10, 2016.
Harry-Banigo, in a statement issued in Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday explained that the only way for them to be effectively represented at both the National and State Assembly is for them to come out in their numbers and cast their votes for the PDP government led by Wike whose performance has endeared the administration to the people.
She also called on the people of Rivers West Senatorial District to see the re-run election as a period to re-enact their seal as they did in the March 19, 2016 re-run election which was cancelled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for no justifiable reason.
The Deputy Governor advised Rivers people and non-indigenes alike to vote wisely and refuse to be intimidated by desperate politicians and other enemies of the State who are bent on instigating violence during the re-run election, stressing that “God would not allow them to succeed as God’s hand is on Rivers State.”

Baby Rescued After Being Dumped In 30 Feet Pit Toilet by Teenage Mother

A two-week-old baby was rescued in Narok, Kenya on Thursday, September 1, after being dumped into a 30-feet pit latrine by its mother. Police are looking for the teenager who was said to have fled the scene.

Speaking to the media, some slaughterhouse workers said a woman, believed to be in her late teens was seen carrying a wrapped item while heading towards a nearby toilet. She came out empty-handed. After a short while, they decided to check the toilet after hearing the sound of a crying baby.
Upon checking, they found a baby wrapped in a plastic bag. They decided to inform the local police

when their efforts to remove it from the pit latrine failed. When the police arrived, they worked hand in hand with area residents to save the infant.
They hooked a long rod on the swaddle to pull out the baby alive. The infant had a piece of clothe tightened around its neck and the head was bleeding, a confirmation that the mother had intended to kill it.
The baby was rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital for treatment.

Jonathan’s Loyalists Threaten To Dump PDP Because Of Sheriff’s Emergence

Some ministers, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, have threatened to leave the Peoples Democratic Party if Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff is not removed as the national chairman of the party.

They said “imposing” the former governor of Borno State on the party by some of its influential members was meant to portray the party as unserious.

They added that the plan to reposition the former ruling party ahead of the 2019 general elections had failed with Sheriff’s emergence.

Spokesperson for the former ministers and a former Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, said this in an interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.

Sheriff was selected by the members of the party’s National Executive Committee at their meeting, which was held in Abuja on Tuesday.

His selection has attracted divergent views from members of the party, including its many organs.

For example, the Board of Trustees of the party and its Senate Caucus have kicked against Sheriff’s choice.

In his reaction, Suleiman said it was obvious that the plan to rescue the party had failed.

He said, “Our rescue mission has failed; the redemption boat has capsized and our journey to recovery has come to an end.

“Whosoever partook in the decision does not mean well for the party and democracy in Nigeria.

“It is obvious that the fifth columnist has hijacked the party and they are hell-bent on sinking it deeper into irrecoverable level of the pit.

The ex-minister added, “Some of us would rather review our membership than subject ourselves to selfish interests of some cabal whose main goal is political profiteering. After all, our umbilical cord is not tied to any party.”

Asked if his group was planning to move to either the All Progressives Congress or form another political party, Suleiman said the decision would be taken soon.

“Some people will go to the APC while some will form their own political party if they so desire.

“Sheriff’s emergence is a setback for the party trying to build its image. Credible members and younger ones are going to leave the party.

“If his emergence is not reversed in the next one week, there could be massive exodus from the party.”

Suleiman said though the former governor had not been identified with Boko Haram, he argued that the perception of many people about him on the Boko Haram issue ought to have been considered.

The members took the action at the swearing-in of the newly elected members of APGA state executive committee in Awka.

Dr Victor Oye, APGA National chairman welcomed the defectors and promised a level playing ground for everybody.

He said that the formal swearing-in of the new leadership of the party was to give them legal backing to perform their function as contained in the party’s constitution.

In his remark Gov. Willie Obiano described the event as ‘Pentecost’ and urged the new leadership to perform their duties with `boldness and conviction.’

He urged them to spread the message of unity and love to all members of the party and assured them of his support.

The governor said the `good work’ of his government would make the next election a walkover for APGA in Anambra.
