Otedola no longer a billionaire – Forbes

Nigerian businessman Femi Otedola has fallen off the billionaire cadre of entrepreneurs.

According to Forbes, Otedola who is the Chairman of Forte Oil, suffered the plunge as he lost $1.3bn following a fall in the stock price of the company.

Forbes said, “As at the close of trading on Friday, Forte Oil’s share price plunged to a one-year low of N145 ($0.44) per share, down from an all-time high of N342 ($1.1) in March this year when FORBES published its annual ranking of the world’s richest people.

“Apart from the tumble in Forte Oil’s stock price, Otedola’s fortune has also been adversely affected by a central bank devaluation of the Naira in June. In dollar terms, the devaluation in addition to Forte’s floundering share price has knocked about $1.3 billion off the value of Otedola’s fortune which was pegged at $1.8 billion in March.

Otedola is now worth only $550 million according to the FORBES’ billionaires’ database.

Dr. Dre Dethroned As Richest Hip Hop Cash King, Goes Down To No. 4

Forbes annual Hip-Hop Cash Kings roundup is here, and there are quite a few surprises.

Last year, Dr. Dre made the most money in hip-hop after Apple purchased his company, Beats Electronics, for $3 billion. A year later, Dre has slid into fourth place behind Diddy, Jay Z, and Drake.

According to Forbes, after coming off the big $620 million personal payday from Apple, Dre’s checks have shrunk a bit, essentially reducing his cash flow. Dre is still massively rich, regardless.

Aside from his newfound wealth via Apple, Dre executive produced the N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” (which has netted about $160 million in the US to date) and released an album that coincided with the film. Those numbers, however, weren’t factored into the current rankings.

With Dre’s fall, Diddy moved right into the first spot, even though he rarely ever performs or makes music anymore. He’s all about business, and it’s paying off.

Jay Z — to the surprise of no one — moved up a spot as well, to No. 2. The rap mogul simply knows how to make money. Leading the charge for Jay is his Roc Nation music label. Roc Nation also has a sports division that contributes to Jay Z’s earnings. Though Jay Z’s newest business — the music streaming service, Tidal — has been hammered by rumors of an imminent demise, it has remained afloat thus far.

The biggest surprise perhaps was rapper Drake coming in at No. 3 — the highest ranking he’s achieved in his young career. Drake was fourth last year, but after selling over a million copies of his “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” album released in February, the “Trophies” rapper moved into the upper echelon.

Replacing her as the top earning celebrity for this fiscal year is Floyd Mayweather.

The boxer, nicknamed ‘Money’, earned $300 million (£190m) over the last year. It shatters the record for athlete earnings, which was previously held by Tiger Woods who banked $115 million in 2008.

Mayweather’s May 2 fight against Manny Pacquiao crushed multiple boxing financial records. Not surprisingly, Pacquiao is in second place having earned $160m.

Katy Perry comes in at number three with a whopping $135m. The pop star is the highest-earning non-boxer on this year’s Celebrity 100 list, thanks mostly to her Prismatic World Tour.

Hot on her heels are One Direction with a combined $130m. US shock jock DJ Howard Stern earned $95m, just ahead of country music star Garth Brooks on $90m.

58-year-old Bhanwarlal Doshi, who was profiled by Forbes and said to be worth over $600m, runs a plastic company in Delhi, India. But Doshi would get converted into the famous Jain monk’s life, prompting him to give up his $600m empire.

He got converted on Sunday and became one of the disciples of Jain Acharya, Shri Gunratna Surishwarji Maharaj.
To kick-off his monk life, a lavish three-day send-off party was thrown for him, where 1,500 people served food to guests. After the ceremony, he is expected to live in abject poverty with no maids or money or any physical possession.

Times of India reports that, “The venue [of the send-off] was built in the form of a ship. 500 hotel rooms were booked to accommodate guests. An estimated 150,000 people participated in the event.”

Reports said he had always wanted to become a monk after he listened to Jain’s lectures in 1981, but it took him time to convince his family. .

Dangote Dumps Sylvia Nduka For Leaking Their Secret Romance

Internet Users eyes and ears were busy minding their businesses and many were reading the word of God when a strange North East wind from the lucid grapevine blew some hot gist about Sylvia and Dangote over to all of us .

Now  lets start from the very beginning…

Earlier this week, the internet was agog with reports that former beauty queen Sylvia Nduka, was gearing up to get hitched to Africa’s richest man, billionaire Aliko Dangote.

The reports are true as Sylvia was actually a share holder in Dangote’s Harem. She travels to any country in the world on his luxury private jet. Gets pampered in some of the most exotic hotels and locations in the world. pricey designer labels (bags, shoes, clothes), good measures, pressed down, shaken together and running over, was what Dangote poured into her laps and her closet!

When she realized that the hussle was tougher than she thought, She changed her dressing to wearing Hijabs and Burqua even though she hates covering up the Islamic way. But becoming Mrs Dangote no be beans so she embraced hijabs and was seen a few weeks back sweating profusely at a function yet she kept the hussle on all in a bid to con Aliko into dumping others and wifing her up. When that didn’t work, she consulted her beauty queen BFF and the planning went deeper
.

Sensing that the Oshiomhole/Iara wedding would be a good season to pressure Dangote into marriage. The ex beauty queen acting on the catastrophic advice of her friend called Ene, went ahead and leaked the fake news of an impending marriage between them. An act that did not go down well with the very conservative Dangote who allegedly warns members of his harem against publicity. The love struck Sylvia even went further by adding Aliko Dangote’s initials to her Instagram page, calling herself Sylvia Nduka AD.
.

However, she deleted it after news broke about their not-so-secret whirlwind romance and Dangote became angry and would not take her calls.

An anonymous insider added:

“She wanted to be Mrs Dangote so bad and she is willing to do anything but this latest stunt has backfired. Dude wont pick her call but she is trying hard and Very soon he will forgive her because they have something special and she lied to him that she was not behind the leak. The only problem is that she is just a small fish considering the calibre of women who make up the harem. She stands no chance”

What’s your personal and professional background?

I was born August 29, 1984 in Washington D.C., to Nigerian parents. At the age of 2 years old, my family moved to Nigeria and spent the next 10 years in Ibadan. At the age of 12, my family returned to the US where I continued my education in Alexandria, Virginia. After graduating from T.C. Williams High School, I attended George Mason University in Fairfax, VA where I received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from the Volgneau School of Engineering with a focus on Computer Science and Information Technology. I also received a minor in Business Administration from George Mason’s School of Management. While at George Mason I was a member of the Track & Field Team and competed in the hurdles and middle distance running events. Being an athlete on a Division I Track & Field team gave me the confidence I needed to take on events outside of sports and a chance to win. Two days after graduating from George Mason I began my career as a Technology Consultant with Accenture. I gained valuable professional experience from being a Technology Analyst with Accenture. While at Accenture, I started working on a project, which quickly progressed and birthed The Apprentice: Africa. A business partner and myself successfully licensed an American reality game show from Mark Burnett Productions for the Sub-Saharan media market, which featured real estate magnate, businessman and television personality Donald Trump. I returned to Nigeria January 2007 and was part of a team that developed, produced and distributed the African edition of an 18 week reality show titled The Apprentice: Africa that had a strong following in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Richest Black Woman is Nigerian Not Oprah Winfrey- Forbes

Nigerian oil tycoon, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, is now the richest black woman in the world with an estimated fortune of $7.3 billion.
Mother of four, Alakija, 62, unseats Winfrey as the richest black woman in the world.
According to Forbes, Oprah Winfrey is worth $2.9 billion.

Alakija started her career as a secretary in a bank in the mid 1970s. She then studied fashion in London and returned to Nigeria to start a label, Supreme Stitches. But her biggest break came in oil.

In 1993, her company, Famfa Oil, was awarded an oil prospecting licence, which later became OML 127, one of Nigeria’s most prolific oil blocks. The company owns a 60-per-cent stake in the block, valued at around $7.3 billion, Ventures Africa has reported.

The World’s Most Powerful People

No one would call Vladimir Putin, the most powerful man in the world for the second year running, a good guy. In 2014 he strong-armed his way into possession of the Crimea and waged an ugly proxy war in neighboring Ukraine, during which an almost certainly Russian-supplied surface-to-air missile downed a civilian jetliner. But as the undisputed, unpredictable head of an energy-rich, nuclear-tipped state, no one would ever call him weak.

Our annual ranking of the World’s 72 Most Powerful People (one for every 100 million people on the planet) is based on voting by a panel of FORBES editors, who consider things like financial resources, scope of action and the number of people they impact.

This year there are 12 newcomers, including Narendra Modi, the new Indian prime minister, at No. 15; Alibiba founder—and China’s richest man—Jack Ma (No. 30); and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed caliph of the bloodthirsty Islamic State (No. 54). The top five positions are unchanged from last year, with Barack Obama remaining in second place ahead of China’s Xi Jinping.

This year’s list features 17 heads of state who run nations with a combined GDP of some $48 trillion — including the three most powerful people, Putin, Obama and Xi, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China. The 39 CEOs and chairs here control over $3.6 trillion in annual revenues. Among them are 14 founders, including the newest billionaires on the list, Alibaba’s Ma and  Tencent’s Ma Huateng (No. 53). Speaking of, this year’s class has 28 billionaires with a cumulative personal net worth valued in excess of $790 billion.

Here, a quick peek at the Most Powerful People in the World 2014:

Newcomers: Among the 12 newcomers are Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi  (No. 15), Wal-Mart CEO Doug McMillon (No. 29), Egypt President Abdel el-Sisi (No. 51) and Mary Barra, GM CEO (No. 62). Alexey Miller, CEO of Russian gas giant Gazprom, makes a return appearance at No. 47, after dropping of the list in years past. Miller is one of a few of Putin’s inner circle who was not placed on the U.S. and Western economic sanctions list.

Monica Lewinsky: I Was “In Love” With President Bill Clinton

The former White House intern, 41, kicked off her first-ever public address by bringing up her story. “I fell in love with my boss,” she said during Forbes‘ inaugural 30 under 30 Summit in Philadelphia. “Only, my boss was the President of the United States.”

“I was Patient Zero,” Lewinsky said, according to the magazine. “The first person to have their reputation completely destroyed worldwide via the Internet. There was no Facebook, Twitter or Instagram back then, but there were gossip, news and entertainment websites replete with comment sections and emails which could be forwarded. Of course, it was all done on the excruciatingly slow dial up. Yet around the world this story went. A viral phenomenon that, you could argue, was the first moment of truly ‘social media.'”

According to Forbes, which recapped the presentation, Lewinsky got emotional while discussing her life in the wake of the political scandal. “Staring at the computer screen, I spent the day shouting, ‘Oh my God!’ and ‘I can’t believe they put that in. That’s so out of context,'” she said of the infamous Starr Report, which was released online in 1998. “And those were the only thoughts that interrupted a relentless mantra in my head: ‘I want to die.'”

Zuckerberg Paying Over $100 million for Property in Hawaii

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has purchased two massive, adjacent chunks of land on Kauai’s North Shore in an effort to create a secluded 700-acre sanctuary for his family, sources have confirmed to Forbes. All told, the 30-year-old billionaire has spent in excess of $100 million to acquire the land, and he hasn’t even built a house yet.

Though the Facebook billionaire brought an unusually lengthy non-disclosure agreement along on his property shopping trip, the fact that he bought land on Kauai’s North Shore is a well-known secret on the island. Last year, when Zuckerberg dined at burger joint Bubba Burgers he made the local paper’s front page. “We don’t comment on rumors and speculation, but thank you for reaching out!” a Facebook spokesperson said.

Dr. Dre ‘Beats’ Jay Z as hip-hop’s top earner with $620M: Forbes

Dr. Dre has been racking up plenty of other financial accomplishments. His latest: capturing this year’s hip-hop cash crown with pretax earnings of $620 million. Not only is that the highest annual total of any entertainer ever evaluated by FORBES, it’s more than the combined earnings of all 24 of his companions on the 2014 Hip-Hop Cash Kings list.

Earlier this year Apple AAPL +1.56% shelled out $3 billion to purchase Beats, the company founded by Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. Though the latter quickly claimed to be hip-hop’s first billionaire, a nine-figure tax bill means that won’t happen immediately—but he’s well on his way.
