Kevin Hart Tops Forbes’ ‘Highest-Paid Comedians’ List With $87.5 Million

Jerry Seinfeld is no longer the most paid funnyman in the comedy business. Now, that honor belongs to Kevin Hart.

The Philadelphia native this week topped Forbes’ list of “Highest-Paid Comedians” for 2016, bringing home a cool $87.5 million for the year. Seinfeld, who has held the list’s top spot since 2006, took home $43.5 million in 2016 and landed at second place on the list.

Forbes calculated the comedians’ totals using data between June 2015 and June 2016. In that time, Hart has starred in films including Ride Along 2Central Intelligence, and The Secret Life of Pets, and appeared in commercials for H&M, Foot Locker, and Hyundai.

Additionally, Hart last year embarked on his “What Now?” tour, which is credited as the highest-grossing comedy tour of all time. As Forbes points out, Hart played more than 100 shows during the June 2015 to June 2016 time period, and grossed about $1 million per show.

Forbes list this year also saw its first female comedian, with Amy Schumer taking fourth place overall. Earning $17 million for the year, Schumer landed just behind ventriloquist Terry Fator.

Hart will release his What Now? tour film on Oct. 14.

Kevin Hart And Ice Cube’s ‘Ride Along 2’ Unseats ‘Star Wars’ At The Box Office

The box office power of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” wore off this week as Universal Pictures’ “Ride Along 2” unseated the latest chapter in the space saga from the top spot it’s held for four weeks. The sequel to the 2014 buddy cop comedy hit starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube grossed an estimated $34 million in the U.S. and Canada this weekend.
This sets up the film to retain the first place spot through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend to meet, if not exceed, its $40 million to $45 million in expected ticket sales through Monday.

“I think it starts with the filmmakers and the cast,” said Nick Carpou, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “In sequels, audiences always play off of how much people like the characters the first time. As we’re trending to be No. 1 for the four-day holiday, our audience is wide and diverse.”
