EFCC Arraigns Edo Deputy Governor’s Brother For Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arraigned Joseph Odubu and his company, Even Handed Services Limited in a Federal High Court, Benin.

A statement by Mr Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman made this known in a statement to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

Uwujaren Odubu was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering forgery, uttering and obtaining money by false presence to the tune of N9, 36 million.

The EFCC´s spokesman said Odubu, a brother to the Deputy Governor of Edo, Mr Pius Odubu, is also the Managing Director of Even Handed Services Limited.

He said the accused used forged documents to obtain a loan facility of N9,36 million on Sept. 5, 2014, from a first generation bank to facilitate the supply of chairs and desks in Edo State.

He added that Odubu also with intent to defraud and to facilitate fraud, forged a document which he claimed was received by Edo State Oil and Gas Producing-Areas Development Commission.

Uwujaren said the offence contravened section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 of the Revised Edition Act, 2007 and punishable under section 1(2) of the same Act.

Odubu pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecuting counsel, C. A. Okoli, applied for the date of commencement of trial and that the accused be remanded in prison.

Odubu’ counsel, Osama Idehen, applied his client’s bail and the court refused it, remanded the accused in prison and adjourned the case till Nov. 22.

Kogi State Deputy Gov. Announced & Sworn In

Simon Achuba has been sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Kogi State.

His swearing in took place on Tuesday in Lokoja the capital of the north-central state.

Mr Chuba filled the vacuum in the deputy governorship position after Mr James Faleke refused to be Governor Yahaya Bello’s deputy.

Mr Achuba last year defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and he is a former Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly.

Mr Faleke wanted the position of the Governor after the governorship candidate in the election, Mr Abubakar Audu, died a day after the governorship election.

The election was declared inconclusive, with a supplementary election scheduled for a later date.

Mother Of Taraba Deputy Governor Kidnapped

Mother of Taraba state Deputy Governor Hajiya Belli Manu has been kidnapped by unknown persons.

The incident happened at about 9.30pm Monday by gunmen. She was kidnapped at her residence in Bakin Kasuwa area of Mutum Biyu town, some 70 kilometers from Jalingo, the state capital.

It was gathered that the kidnappers numbering about ten also killed a middle aged man at the front of the deputy governor’s family house before taking his mother away.

The chairman of Gassol local government area Alhaji Tukura Bashiru confirmed the incident.

The police spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

“I have Passed the Stage of Begging Anybody”, Aliyu Denies Begging IBB…

Governor Bababgida Aliyu of Niger State has denied media reports that he begged former military president,General Ibrahim Babangida, to convince his deputy, Ahmed Musa Ibeto and others who recently defected to the APC, to return to the PDP.

Speaking while playing host yesterday to the Federation of Advocates for Fair, Credible and Peaceful Elections led by Alhaji Tanko Yakassai in Minna, Aliyu said it was not unusual to see politicians decamping during electioneering periods, adding that those who defected had the right to do so.

 “They said I went to IBB over those who defected. I have passed the stage of begging anybody. Every politician is free to decide on which party he wants to belong to. Let me however plead that nobody should victimize anybody for the political decision they made.
