Mum Delivered Of Baby With Two Heads

Two heads are better than one — so goes the popular saying.

But there are times when two heads are a big problem, such as with a new born baby delivered on Tuesday at a hospital in Ogudu on the outskirts of Lagos.

It has two heads with oxygen tube strapped on each, a neck, chest, two legs and two hands.

Doctors at Med-In Specialist Hospital, Osogbo Street, who took the delivery, said the baby was born around  6:30pm  on Tuesday through an elective caesarean section.  Its mother, surgeon and nurses entered the theatre prepared to take delivery of a set of twins as indicated by the various scans she underwent in the course of the pregnancy.

But what they saw were two heads sharing a body

At the hospital yesterday, it was gathered that the baby  was resuscitated and transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for advance care.

According to one of the nurses who was in the delivery room, they had prepared two cots for each of the twins but were shocked when they saw that they were conjoined.

“This is the first time I am seeing anything like this. I have watched it in movies but seeing it in real life was such an experience for me. Thankfully, the surgeon ensured that they survived.

“As I speak to you, the mother doesn’t know the condition of the babies. She still believes and expects to carry her twins. We haven’t told her yet. Only her husband was brought into the theatre to see his children and he was the one who went with the doctors to LUTH,” said the nurse.

In medical parlance, the condition is known as Parapagus. It is a rare form of partial twinning where there are two heads and two necks side by side on one torso.

Such cases are rampant in India and doctors say they cannot be separated since they have only one pair of arms and one pair of legs and one heart. This disorder is different from conjoined twins as the baby has only one set of internal organs. The extremely rare case is thought to be brought on during the early stages of pregnancy as a result of genetic mutation.

Ese Oruru, Alleged Abducted Girl, Delivered Of Baby Girl

Ese Oruru, the teenager who was allegedly abducted and impregnated by Yunusa Dahiru, a Kano indigene, has been delivered of a baby girl in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Her baby came on Thursday about 10.15 am at the Government House Clinic in the state capital.

Her elated father, Charles Oruru, confirmed yesterday that the girl, who was in Junior Secondary School at the time she was allegedly abducted, was in good health after going through the early morning labour stress.

Ese was allegedly abducted in Bayelsa State last August and taken to Kano where she was converted to Islam and married off without the consent of her parents.

Since she returned to Yenagoa following outcry by members of the public and the pressure mounted by the media, she has been in the custody of the police at the Police Officers’ Mess in Yenagoa.

Oruru said that the family was excited about the latest addition to the family, despite the circumstances of the child’s birth, adding that the baby and the mother were doing well.

“My daughter gave birth in the morning around a quarter past 10. The mother and the child are well. She gave birth to herself (a baby girl). We are very happy that she gave birth safely,’’ Oruru said.
Ese’s abduction case is currently before the Federal High Court, sitting in Yenagoa, where her alleged kidnapper, Dahiru, is facing a five-count charge of kidnapping, unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Abortion Pills To Be Delivered To Poland In Drone To Counter 50,000 Illegal Annual Abortions

A drone is set to deliver medical abortion pills to Poland where nearly 50,000 dangerous underground abortions are reported to take place every year.

The “abortion drone” is being sent by a Netherlands-based non-profit organization, Women on Waves, and will arrive in the Polish town of Slubice on Saturday.

Since 1993, Poland has initiated strict pregnancy termination laws, which only permit women to have abortions for severe health reasons or in the case of rape or incest.

The drone’s mission is to drop several packages of World Health Organization-approved pills that will be picked up by women’s groups and distributed to those in need.

Although abortions are illegal in Poland, women cannot be imprisoned for terminating a pregnancy, but the doctor who carries out the operation can face up to two years in jail.

“We can’t stop pointing out the lack of safe access to abortion and medical abortion pills. It’s a violation of women’s rights. We have to make every effort to make sure they get that access,” RT quoted Dr. Rebecca Gomperts, the founder of the rights group, as saying on Monday.

Gomperts said although the move is not “illegal” under present “regulations or laws”, she was not sure “what the government’s going to do” in reaction to the abortion drone.

How I Delivered Good Governance To Rivers State- Amaechi

The immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, has said that his administration left the state in a better condition, contrary to the claims of his successor, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement Tuesday, Mr. Amaechi said that his eight years at the helm of the state’s affairs were that of commitment to good governance and transparent and accountable stewardship to Rivers people.

On the N150 billion purportedly owed the state’s Ministry of Works contractors, Mr. Amaechi accused the incumbent governor of blocking an attempt by former president, Goodluck Jonathan, to repay the state funds it spent on federal roads.
