Entertainers Can get Nigeria Out of Recession – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed says that the creative industry has the potential of getting the country out of the present economic recession.

Mohammed said this on the sidelines of the premier of the movie; “My Name is Kadi” , produced by Aisha Mohammed, which starred Blossom Chukwujekwu, Kenneth Okolie, Tina Mba, Slyvya Oluchy, Jide Bolarinwa and Josephine Ramos.

According to the minister, some countries’ of the world have improved their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from the creative industry.

“There are many countries in the world that have made it from the creative industry; for instance in California, the GDP is largely dependent on the creative industry, which is like the fifth in the world.

“If we put our efforts to handle piracy and ensure quality, Nigeria can as well generate huge revenue from the sector,” Mohammed said.

He commended the efforts of practitioners in the creative industry, adding that they were ahead of the government, and had projected the country’s entertainment industry to limelight.

Mohammed, however, said the government would assist practitioners in the industry to ensure they derived economic benefits from their creative exploits and the country at large.

“The good news is that the artists, musicians, filmmakers have gone so far ahead of government; government needs to catch up with them.

“Few years ago, there was a 2020 vision committee and the idea was that Nigeria by the year 2020 should be one of the 20 foremost film producing countries in the world.

“That was in 2012 and by then we were already number three in the world and this is largely built by the efforts, the passion of the practitioners in the creative industry.

“The government is reaching out to them,” he said.

The minister said there was the need for the guilds and associations in the creative industry to unite so as to gain full support of the government.

According to him, the government can only support organised groups.

“It is not like everything is okay with the creative industry because in recent times we observed that they seem largely unstructured and we want to assist them to get themselves to be better organised.

“Now, we have about 168 guilds and association of film makers within the industry alone.

“There is no way the government can deal with 168 groups, so that is why we are assisting them get through the Motion Picture Practitioners Council of Nigeria (MOPICON) bill.

“No One Will Hear Of My Marriage, Besides Who Says I’m Not Married” – Dbanj

Nigerian musician Oladapo Daniel Onyebajo popularly known as DBanj has revealed that when he gets married, it’s going to be a quiet event and no one will know about it.

In his chat with Punch, he said, “I would tell you the truth, I am not married but if I am, nobody would hear about it. Besides, who says I am not married?

“It is going to be a very quiet wedding because I am tired of people asking me that question. It is my personal life and it is not going to change my music or brand.

“I am not going to get married just because people want me to, neither would I do it just to enter another phase of my life just like some of my colleagues have done. They make it seem as if once you are married you have retired. But that should not be the case.

“Marriage would not change anything about me and whenever it happens, nobody would hear about it, there would only be speculations. My wife would not be seeking for fame because the one I have is already enough for all my family members.

“When I get married, it would be a very quiet one. Who knows, it might have already happened,” the Koko master added.

See Who Don Jazzy is Blaming For His Seperation With Dbanj

In an exclusive interview with City People, Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy said that his breakup with his former business partner D’banj was created by fans of the Mo’ Hits label and the media.

See what he said below:

“I keep saying that, the problem  you guys think we had was caused by both the press and our fans, because we were alright. D Banj is working, I am working, we can meet up. We can gist, laugh and whatever”
“Yes and no, I am not losing anything. I have many artistes at hand right now. I’m a producer; my work is to look for artistes. If I want to sign more, I will. There is no doubt that he is a huge and
successful entertainer, but then there is no glory in actually working with huge people. I like bringing up people.

Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi – “I Will Definitely Crop You Out Of A Picture If We Are No Longer Friends”

Well, this is a controversial issue and I really don’t agree with her on this one.

A little fuss was made yesterday, April 13, 2015, about Don Jazzy posting a picture of him and Enrique Iglesias which has D’banj cropped out of it.

The Beat FM OAP who nearly broke her leg last week, has now sent out a tweet about the issue of cropping.

According to Gbemi, she would go ahead to crop anyone who is no longer a friend out of a picture. “Call me petty but I will definitely crop you out of a picture if we are no longer friends” she tweeted.

We wonder what D’banj will think about this?

Court Fixes March 30 For D’banj’s Debt Allegation

Nigerian music star D’banj popularly known as KOKOMASTER is still in celebration mood with parties and concerts around the world celebrating his 10th year commemoration as an entertainer; however his alleged debt allegation crisis that seems to have died down has reared its ugly head up again….

In the last quarter of 2014, multiple media reports alleged that D’banj might be dragged to court by a top oil and gas industry player, Henry Ojogho, Vice Chairman of Broron Group. Ojogho, who is also the Vice Chairman of MindHub Technologies, an integrated Rice farming and milling production company, who alleged that D’banj, through his company, DKM Media Limited, obtained a loan of over N60m from him in January 2013 and has not paid back the said sum despite signing an
undertaking to do so.

Following this allegation, the write of summons and other relevant documents in the suit was posted on D’Banj’s residence on Osaro Isokpan Street in Lekki Phase 1.

The pasting was done by the court bailiff on December 17, 2014 at about 1:35p.m, pursuant to order of court made on November 12, 2014 having been satisfied that the defendant was evading being served the notice.

Subsequently, the court case between the DB Records boss and Mindhub Technologies bearing suit number: LD/ADR/445/14 was scheduled to commence hearing on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Multi-door Courthouse in Obalende, Lagos, but it was indefinitely postponed as a result of strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) which paralysed activities and court rooms remain closed.

The strike was recently called off by the judicial workers, and immediately a new date was set for the court case. Speaking exclusive with NET, a source in the camp of the claimant’s camp said, ‘Yes, we are back to court, and we are aware that D’banj has secured the services of a lawyer as well who wants to file in some documents in his defense, but we are yet to receive the papers.

Meanwhile the case has been adjourned to March 30, 2015 at the Multi-door Courthouse in Obalende, Lagos. In January 2015, D’banj kicked off his 10th year anniversary celebrations in Lagos when he successfully brought in American twerk queen Amber Rose to host the kick-off party in Lagos.

In February he moved the party to South Africa where he was hosted at ‘Harlem’ and ‘Kong’ night clubs with a lot of celebrities in attendance. And just last week Thursday, February 27, 2015, D’banj headlined the Industry Night celebrations in Dubai as part of his 10th anniversary celebrations where he performed alongside Kenya’s Sauti Sol, Dubai’s G Mac and others….
