Man United’s Wayne Rooney working on coaching badges to be manager

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has reiterated his plans to go into management, confirming he is currently undergoing his coaching qualifications.

Rooney, 31, is contracted with United until 2019 and became the club’s all-time record goal scorer with his equaliser at Stoke on Saturday, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton.

Speaking at a Football Writers’ Association dinner to celebrate the England striker’s achievements, Rooney said: “I’ve publicly said before I’d like to go into management.

“Obviously I’d have to complete my badges, which I’m doing at the minute.

“I feel it’d be a shame to have the knowledge I feel I have about football and walk away from it once I’ve finished playing.”

Upon receiving the award, Rooney added: “I’m humbled to be here and to receive this award. As a football player it’s great to receive awards and to get records like I did yesterday.

“The reaction to the record has been great and I thank everyone for their messages. For people to send me messages yesterday, mostly across social media but also some private ones, was brilliant and I really appreciate them all.”

Last week, Rooney’s former England teammate Steven Gerrard returned to Liverpool to become the club’s academy coach, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp backing the midfielder to go on and be a manager.

Ex-England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has also previously voiced his desire to one day manage the Blues.

No plan to ban Super Falcons players, coaches over faceoff, says NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said yesterday it had no plan to ban some players and coaches of the Super Falcons for their role in the on-going faceoff over unpaid entitlements.

The Falcons, who defeated the host, Lionesses of Cameroun to win their eighth Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) title on December 3 in Yaoundé, had been on strike in Abuja over the failure of the NFF to settle their wages.

There were reports that no less than 10 of the players and some officials would be banned for life for ‘ridiculing their fatherland before the international media.’

President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Sanusi as well as Spokesman of the body, Ademola Olajire told The Guardian in separate interviews that there was no iota of truth in such story.

“How can people cook up such a story?” Pinnick asked. There is nothing of such. They are our players and we will continue to appeal to them to see reason with the NFF in view of the tight economic situation we are currently. Their wages will be given to them as soon as we get money. To say that the NFF is planning to ban some of the players and coaches for life is out of it.”

On his part, the Secretary General said in a message to The Guardian yesterday: “To the best of my knowledge, nobody has said such a thing.”

Olajire also said: “Never. Nobody ever said that. Such story came from people who cannot breathe without writing something negative about the NFF. It is not practical and will not happen.”

Meanwhile, the players are still holding unto the African Nations Cup trophy at the Agura Hotel in Abuja.

Some of the players who spoke with The Guardian yesterday vowed never to vacate the hotel until they are settled.

One of them said: “The NFF paid N100,000 into our bank accounts on Friday and pleaded that we should go. No way. We want our money in full.”

NFF To Hire National Teams Coaches On Part-Time

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will now engage assistant coaches of the various national teams on part-time basis so as to lessen the financial burden the salaries of the coaches have caused them.

 
A top official disclosed: “The assistant coaches will now be on part time, strictly for when there is a tournament concerning their respective teams.

 
“They will therefore free to work with the clubs when they are now with the national teams.

 

“We have to be realistic, we have been paying many people for many years without doing anything and the financial obligation caused by just salaries of the coaches is just too huge.

 
“There is one of the Eagles assistant coaches who has insisted he is owed over 18 million Naira from salaries and what have you over the years.”

 
It was also revealed that one of the Eagles assistant coach has not been paid for the past nine months.

 

 
The NFF have already decided that developmental teams from U17 downwards will no longer be entitled to match bonuses as they save on costs.

‘Fake’ Mourinho Is Finished As A Coach – Adrian Mutu

The Romanian, who was sacked by Chelsea for testing positive for cocaine in 2004, accused the Blues boss of only knowing of negative ways to draw a reaction from players

Jose Mourinho is “fake” and “finished” as a coach, according to former Chelsea player Adrian Mutu.

The Romanian, who currently plays for Pune City in the Indian Super League, endured a difficult relationship with Mourinho during their brief spell together at Stamford Bridge in 2004 which culminated in Mutu being sacked after testing positive for cocaine.

The 36-year-old accused the Chelsea manager of lacking man management skills and taking a negative approach to drawing a reaction from his players during periods of poor form.

“He has been a great coach in the past but, as a person, he is fake,” Mutu told the Mirror .

“He only looks after himself, and has no consideration for how his players are feeling and thinking. You could not go and talk to him

“As a coach, he is finished. There is no way back for him. How do you come back from something like this [current form]?

“You can see now how many of his players look unhappy. Why? He is the reason. He cannot talk to players like they should be spoken to.

“The first thing he does is he goes to the biggest player in his team, and tries to make him angry.

“No matter who it was, John Terry, Frank Lampard, it is just what he does for fun. That was just his way of doing things, and he won’t change .

Westerhof Blasts Oliseh, Says He Can’t Take Nigeria To The 2018 World Cup

Former Nigeria head coach Clemens Westerhof has said Sunday Oliseh can’t take the national team to the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.
Westerhof, who won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations title with the Super Eagles in Tunisia, made his stance known after Nigeria beat Swaziland 2-0 on Friday.
Following the victory, Oliseh told the press he was proud of his team, and Westerhof said it was nothing to celebrate.

“Congratulations, you beat Swaziland 2-0 in the return leg match of the preliminary round of the qualifiers,” But does that really call for celebration? Yes, there are no minnows in football but who are Swaziland to hold the Super Eagles to a goalless draw?T
he Super Eagles won 2-0 in Nigeria but is it not a game the Super Eagles should be winning 6-0, 7-0 under normal circumstances? What type of football do they play in Swaziland?
“Swaziland is not the first match Super Eagles have played under Oliseh. There has not been any difference between their first game under him and the game with Swaziland.I’m sorry, with Oliseh, the Super Eagles may not go to the World Cup in Russia,” Westerhof declared.

VP inaugurates 5 ultra modern rail coaches in Benue

Vice President Namadi Sambo will on Friday in Makurdi, inaugurate five ultra modern 68-seater passenger coaches, delivered to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) by a Chinese firm.

NRC’s Assistant Director of Public Relations, Mr Akinwoye Abdulrauf, told Newsmen on Thursday in Makurdi that the inauguration would also signal the beginning of operations of the Makurdi/PortHarcourt intercity passenger service.

He assured transporters that the corporation was committed to the provision of high tech rail services in the country. The vice president will also commission the newly-acquired two 16-seater air-conditioned rail buses and 18 five-seater motorised trolleys. Abdulraouf assured that the facilities would be properly serviced and maintained to ease transportation problems in the country.

He said the delivery of the coaches was accompanied by relevant spare parts to avoid intermittent service failure. He said the Nigerian technical crew, charged with the maintenance of the facilities, was adequately trained to ensure continued service delivery.
