I never beg players to sign – Mourinho won’t persuade Ibrahimovic to stay

Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho, has said he will not persuade Zlatan Ibrahimovic to sign a new deal, as he “never begs players to sign”.

Ibrahimovic moved to Old Trafford as a free agent last summer and has scored 26 goals already for the Red Devils.

The Swedish striker scored twice at Wembley on Sunday, as United overcame a resilient Southampton team 3-2 to win their first trophy of the season.

The 35-year-old signed a one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months, but that clause has not been activated yet.

Speaking after the EFL Cup final, Mourinho said: “I never beg for players to sign. But if need be, Manchester United fans can go to his house and stay all night.”

There are doubts Ibrahimovic may extend his stay in England, if United don’t qualify for the Champions League next season.

“Winning the FA cup is very important to Chelsea”, says Mourinho

José Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge for a second time this season to face his former club, Chelsea.

Manchester United, the FA Cup holders, were hammered 4-0 earlier this season at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League game.

Mourinho praised his side’s display at Blackburn on Sunday but expressed concerned over a potential fixture pile-up before the FA Cup game at Chelsea.

“No reaction,” Mourinho reacted to the FA cup draws.

“I have to play Saint-Etienne, I have to play the EFL Cup final, I have to play hopefully another opponent in the Europa League.

“I have to fight for a top-four position in the Premier League. I have so many things to think about.

“Chelsea can only think about that because they are champions and they have nothing else to fight for.

“So the FA Cup I believe is something important for them.

“The match is in one month’s time, so I don’t want to think about it.

“We’re going to fight for the FA Cup, but the League Cup is the one we have a 50 per cent possibility to win.

“And the next one is to get a result against St Etienne on Wednesday and be in the last 16 of the Europa League.”

Red Devils have not won at Chelsea since October 2012 and Mourinho was humiliated on his last visit there in October.

Antonio Conte’s side subjected Mourinho to his heaviest Premier League defeat.

Mourinho wanted me at Manchester United – Willian

Brazilian midfielder, Willian has revealed that Jose Mourinho tried to bring him to Manchester United last summer, but insists he is happy home at Chelsea.

Mourinho resumed at Old Trafford in July, eight months after he was dismissed by Chelsea for the second time.

His dismissal followed a disastrous Premier League title defence and what technical director Michael Emenalo described as “palpable discord” between players and management.

While Chelsea struggled, Willian was one of few reliable performers in Mourinho’s final season, scoring five goals and registering six assists as well as being voted the club’s Player of the Year.

Reports in England last summer suggested that the pair were set for a move to United.

Willian told Globo Esporte, “Concrete [offers], I have no idea. But Manchester United were interested in me, since Mourinho is there now.

“Other clubs I am not aware, but there is always something on the internet. In any case I am happy that there are clubs who admire my work.”

The forward has continued to perform do well under Antonio Conte despite fighting with Pedro Rodriguez for a place in the starting lineup.

I Miss The Champions League – Mourinho

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has urged his players to step up their quest to qualify for the Champions League next year, as he misses the competition.

Mourinho has had to play in the Europa League in his first season at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils in the last 32 of the competition, where they will take on St Etienne this month.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss is among a small group of coaches — including Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Carlo Ancelotti — who have taken charge of 100 Champions League games. And he is desperate to return to the big stage.

“Personally, I miss the Champions League,” Mourinho said.

“Every match I don’t play in the Champions League means an incredible number of matches is not going up. I am the youngest one to be in the club of 100. Every time I don’t play I am not happy.

“But obviously Manchester United is much more important than me. What matters is Manchester United, and as everyone knows, it’s a club that belongs to the Champions League.

“We shall do everything possible to make sure we are in it next season.

“We have two chances to be there: one is by winning the Europa League, the other is by finishing in the top four. Both achievable, both difficult, but we are going to work hard for that.”

Man United’s Wayne Rooney working on coaching badges to be manager

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has reiterated his plans to go into management, confirming he is currently undergoing his coaching qualifications.

Rooney, 31, is contracted with United until 2019 and became the club’s all-time record goal scorer with his equaliser at Stoke on Saturday, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton.

Speaking at a Football Writers’ Association dinner to celebrate the England striker’s achievements, Rooney said: “I’ve publicly said before I’d like to go into management.

“Obviously I’d have to complete my badges, which I’m doing at the minute.

“I feel it’d be a shame to have the knowledge I feel I have about football and walk away from it once I’ve finished playing.”

Upon receiving the award, Rooney added: “I’m humbled to be here and to receive this award. As a football player it’s great to receive awards and to get records like I did yesterday.

“The reaction to the record has been great and I thank everyone for their messages. For people to send me messages yesterday, mostly across social media but also some private ones, was brilliant and I really appreciate them all.”

Last week, Rooney’s former England teammate Steven Gerrard returned to Liverpool to become the club’s academy coach, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp backing the midfielder to go on and be a manager.

Ex-England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has also previously voiced his desire to one day manage the Blues.

‘I Was Like a Ghost’ – Hazard Reflects on Chelsea Struggles in 2015-16

The Belgian forward admits he wants ‘to be the best again’ after enduring a tough time as the reigning PFA Player of the Year last season

Eden Hazard’s transformation from Premier League title winner and PFA Player of the Year to Chelsea also-ran surprised the Belgian as much as it did those watching from afar.

The talented forward enjoyed a sparkling 2014-15 campaign, with a 19-goal haul from 52 appearances in all competitions seeing him land prestigious personal and collective honours.

He was, however, to endure a humbling fall from grace last season, alongside many of his Stamford Bridge colleagues.

Hazard – having been billed as a contender to challenge Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the right to be called the best player on the planet – was a shadow of his former self as he was forced to wait until January before opening his 2015-16 goal account.

The 26-year-old admits he performed “like a ghost” as the Blues stumbled their way to a 10th-place finish in the Premier League.

He has been back on form this season, though, and is setting his sights of more major silverware, with nine goals added to a cause that has Chelsea sat five points clear at the top of the table.

Hazard told Fox Sports: “I learned a lot [from last season].

“Sometimes you are at the top like we were two years ago and sometimes it is difficult for everyone.

“For me, I was the best player two years ago, but last season I was like a ghost.

“I want to be the best again and win titles.”

It is not just the English top-flight crown that Hazard has in sights, though, with the FA Cup very much there to be shot at.

Chelsea have enjoyed considerable success in the competition in recent times – emerging victorious four times in six seasons between 2007 and 2012 – but Hazard only joined after the most recent of those triumphs and is yet to get his hands on the famous trophy.

On the back of a 4-1 third round victory over Peterborough on Sunday, he added: “The league is important, but the FA Cup even more as I’ve never won it.

“So I hope that this season I can win this trophy as I have won the league and the League Cup – now I just need the FA Cup.”

Jose Mourinho Cancels Christmas for United Players, Staff

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has reportedly ordered his players to report for training at 4.30pm on Christmas Day and has also instructed staff to come to work.

In past seasons, United trained at Carrington on Christmas morning like other clubs, before spending the rest of the day with their families and friends.

Even Mourinho’s predecessor, Louis van Gaal, gave the players and staff the day off.

“Everyone is seriously pissed off. They’ve never heard anything like it – not even under Fergie,” a source told SunSports said.

“All the staff are used to coming in and sorting training out at Carrington but having it at Old Trafford adds a whole new level of organisation and brings more staff in.

“Jose’s had a face like thunder at the training ground for most of the season and is clearly not happy with results.

“Some staff will even have to stay later on to sort out the pitch and stadium for the next day’s home game. He’s effectively cancelled Christmas.”

United welcome Sunderland in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Manchester United are victims of double standards – Mourinho

Jose Mourinho claimed he is being judged unfairly by critics after Manchester United conceded a late Leighton Baines penalty in a damaging 1-1 draw at Everton.

Mourinho’s team have won just twice in the league since the end of August, a run which has featured numerous draws and has derailed United’s hopes of winning a title in their manager’s debut season at Old Trafford.

However, Mourinho, who earned a reputation for not always winning in the most attractive style when in charge of Chelsea, insists his side is playing well and that he is being held to a double standard.

“You have to make a decision because when my teams are playing pragmatic football and winning matches and winning titles, you say it is not right and nice,” Mourinho said.

“When my teams play very, very well, there is a huge change in relation to the past two or three years. Now you say what matters is to get result, no matter what.

“At the moment teams are getting results, defending with 11 players, keeping the ball and playing on the counter-attack. You have to make a decision.”

The last comment may have been a thinly-disguised reference to Chelsea and their current style of play.

But, in any case, United had only themselves to blame for their latest disappointment as late substitute Marouane Fellaini tripped Idrissa Gueye and Baines struck the equalising penalty.

Mourinho, whose side are 13 points behind leaders Chelsea, did not take kindly to questions about his decision to bring on the Belgian and said: “I thought you would know more about football than you do.

“It is obvious. Everton is not a passing team. They play direct. Everything is direct.

“When a team is losing it plays direct, when you have a player on the bench with two metres (height) you play that player in front of the defensive line to win the match.

– Emotional –

Baines’s penalty cancelled out the opening goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and a strong spell from United who also saw Ander Herrera hit a post.

“It was another game with a very good performance in a very difficult place to play,” said Mourinho

“A very emotional stadium against a team with very good players.

“We are playing very well at home, being super dominant. We are playing very well away controlling matches and performing really well with some amazing performance but not getting the results we deserve.”

United defender Phil Jones, who continued his impressive recent form after returning from injury problems, articulated the frustration in the visitors’ camp.

“It’s happened too many times, we’ve dropped too many points,” said Jones.

“That’s four or five games I can think of where we have completely dominated and didn’t win. It’s happened again.”

United might have had greater problems had defender Marcos Rojo been dismissed in the first half, instead of earning a yellow card, for a horrific lunge at Gueye, although Everton manager Ronald Koeman refused to criticise the Argentinian.

“It’s difficult,” said Koeman who made three excellent substitutions to rescue the point.

“Maybe if the referee could watch it back, maybe it would be a red card. We always have discussions about red or yellow, if it’s a penalty, but finally it’s a fair result. Both teams didn’t deserve to lose.

“We can fight back, we showed that today. It was disappointing to go 1-0 down but we didn’t deserve to lose the match.

“We showed that commitment and qualities and the three subs had a big impact on the game. We deserved it because we were dangerous in the second half.”

Manchester United’s Mourinho needs to play attacking football – Eto’o

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho needs to keep playing attacking football, his former Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o has said.

Eto’o played under Mourinho at Inter when the club won the Treble in 2010 and also worked with him at Chelsea in 2013-14.

Success in Italy was built on a solid defence — something Mourinho has become strongly associated with — but this week he praised the “beautiful, attacking football” he feels United are playing.

Eto’o told Telefoot: “Jose has changed a lot, because I got to know someone exceptional when I arrived at Inter.

“At Chelsea, it was a bit more difficult. We saw each other not so long ago in Mexico. He seemed to have changed again. He asked for three years to relaunch Manchester United.

“Today, you have to want to play football, to make your boys play football. You can’t defend all the time. Football isn’t like that any more.

“If you don’t want to play like Barcelona or Manchester City, you’re going to have problems.”

Discussing his relationship with Mourinho, Eto’o said he had “no problem with Jose.”

“I like him a lot,” he added. “He has things that no other coach does.

“He can take a security guard, tell them: ‘You’re the best,’ and the person goes to the stadium and has a great game. He’s very good at that, talking, but football isn’t just that any more.”

Conte Shocked Mourinho Never Gave Moses A Chance

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has slammed his predecessors for snubbing Super Eagles star Victor Moses in the past.

Moses spent the last three seasons out on loan away from Chelsea while Jose Mourinho was in charge of the Blues, but he was handed a lifeline by Conte who took charge at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Conte whose side have chalked up six straight wins in the English Premier League scoring 17 goals without conceding a goal told Italian tabloid Gazzetta Dello Sport that the 25-year-old Nigerian international possesses qualities that should not be overlooked.

“I could see his potential from the first days of the summer training camp,” Conte said.

“Moses has important qualities: technique, physical strength, the ability to cover seventy meters of the pitch.

“I find it incredible that someone like him has been underestimated.”

Moses, a regular starter for the Blues since the 3-4-3 formation was adopted by Conte in October, has scored thrice in 13 appearances in all competitions this season.

Mourinho: I dropped Rooney because he isn’t fast enough

Jose Mourinho has revealed that Wayne Rooney’s lack of pace meant he had to start from the bench in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal over the weekend.

There were fears that Rooney could be punished by Mourinho for his boozing antics while on England duty, and those fears were seemingly confirmed when the United captain was named on the bench for the clash with Arsenal, but Mourinho says he started Rooney from the bench because he wasn’t fast enough for what he wanted.

“I thought we were going to have the ball,” said Mourinho. “Arsenal are a team who let the opponents play.

“I thought we would have space and the ball would arrive quite easily to the attacking players.

“I believed ones like Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were faster than Wayne — better attacking opponents one-to-one in the last line. I thought it was the best option.”

United led the Gunners in that game and looked set for a certain victory, before conceding a late equalizer but Mourinho insists he cannot fault the performance of his players on the day.

And the United boss also praised his midfield combination for the game, as he looks to have found his most effective combination in Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick.

“The midfield is playing very well,” said Mourinho. “Pogba, Carrick and Herrera are playing very well. The defenders, the way Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo performed, were so solid and confident. We defended high and were compact when we had to be.

“It was a very good performance, but I go home with the feeling that I lost against Arsenal in the Premier League.

“Pogba is adapting much better in relationships, with the intensity of the competition and he’s much more confident.

“Obviously he plays with some guidelines over his position, but at the same time with some freedom to occupy some attacking areas where he feel and thinks he can be important.”

Schweinsteiger Set for £10m Man Utd Pay Off

With the prospect of the 32-year-old getting a chance under Jose Mourinho looking distant, the Red Devils are ready to take a financial hit to offload him

Manchester United are so desperate to get Bastian Schweinsteiger off their books that they are ready to offer the German a £10 million pay off in January, according to The Sun.

The 32-year-old has no part in Jose Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford and has spent much of the campaign with the reserve side. Although the ex-Bayern Munich midfielder has recently been welcomed back to the first team to train, there is apparently no prospect of him actually featuring for the Red Devils.

Commenting on the decision to bring him back to the fold, Mou said: “The way Bastian was working professionally, every day with the fitness coach, it’s a human decision, a professional decision to bring him back to the team.

“He’ll be in much better condition in case his future decision is to leave the club.”

Now United face the challenge of finding a side that is prepared to take the veteran off their hands, with his £180,000-per-week wage an impediment to them doing so. He still has more than 18 months to run on his deal with Mourinho’s men, and could cost them £18m if he remains for the duration of his contract.

The Premier League outfit have already written off his £6m transfer fee and are now hopeful that a club from the MLS or CSL approaches Schweinsteiger, but so far no suitors have been forthcoming.

Jose Mourinho charged with misconduct over referee comments

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association.

Mourinho’s charge was confirmed by the FA on Thursday on their official website.

Mourinho was ruled to have breached FA rules for commenting on referee Anthony Taylor ahead of his side’s goalless draw with Liverpool on October 17.

The Portuguese said appointing Taylor for the game at Anfield had put ‘pressure’ on the Manchester-based official and it would be ‘difficult for him to have a very good performance’.

A statement on the FA’s website reads: “Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct following comments made ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool FC earlier this month.”

“It is alleged his comments were improper and or brought the game into disrepute contrary to FA Rule E3 (1).

Conte Responds To Mourinho Outburst

Antonio Conte felt he did nothing wrong by encouraging the Chelsea fans to cheer the players in the closing stages of the 4-0 win over Manchester United.

Conte Geered the Stamford Bridge faithful up after N’Golo Kante struck Chelsea’s fourth and was involved in an exchange of words with a seemingly irked Mourinho following the conclusion of the match.

The Italian claimed his antics were an attempt to try and drown out the noise from the incessant United faithful in the away end, suggesting his players deserved the full backing of the stadium.

“I was listening to the support of Manchester United, always supporting their team and after a great win like this I was asking my fans to do a clap for the players for the performance,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think this is normal. All the players deserve this clap

“When there is a private conversation it is right to remain private, I have great respect for Jose, he is a great manager and he won a lot here,” Conte also told the BBC.

Chelsea took just 30 seconds to move ahead through Pedro, with Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard adding to the tally before Kante’s goal.

After losing at home to Liverpool and away at Arsenal in recent weeks, Conte was delighted to see his team come out on top in a big match.

“I am pleased with a great performance. We started very well, with high intensity and moving the ball quickly, creating chances to score the goal. I see the commitment of the players in training every day and they deserve this,” he said.

“We are improving; we must continue to work, because only through the work we can improve. We know that we have a long way to go, but I’m satisfied.

“It is very important after the Arsenal and Liverpool defeats, it was important to understand our mission. We must look to Wednesday against West Ham [in the EFL Cup] and prepare for that.”

Jose Mourinho reveals why he may be forced to drop Wayne Rooney again

Rooney could be left out of Manchester United’s Europa League starting lineup after Jose Mourinho claimed he needs to “protect” the striker.

Rooney was dropped for last Saturday’s rout of Leicester and has not trained fully this week due to a back injury.

The England captain returned to training today at Carrington and United manager Mourinho will discuss whether he should start against Ukraine side Zorya Luhansk or be on the substitutes’ bench.

But Mourinho is mindful that the endless debate over Rooney’s form means he must carefully weigh up whether he will be able to perform to his best.

“Wayne Rooney is selected (in the squad). I did not decide yet if I start with him,” said Mourinho.

“He didn’t train yesterday. He did just a little bit of the session on Monday. He had a back problem. So today was the first time he had a training session with the other players and today it was a training session where the intensity and complexity is obviously reducing because we have a game tomorrow.

“I am not sure if I will play him from the start because of the situation you (the media) created with him.

“He can’t afford to have a performance that is not really good.

“Because I am here to protect him, and not to put him in difficult situations, I have to analyse whether the best thing for him is to start the game if he is not totally ready for it.

“So I am going to discuss that with him and the medical staff and decide whether he starts or is on the bench.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Luke Shaw will both be absent, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic will start as United look to recover from their opening group defeat to Feyenoord.

“It is very important,” said Mourinho, who intends to play a strong team. “To be honest I think we have to win.

“If we don’t win we have four matches and we would have to win all of the last four matches, which is difficult. I think tomorrow it is very important that we win the game.”

Rooney Left Out of Man Utd Squad

The United skipper is a surprise name to be missing from the travelling party for Thursday’s Europa League clash, with Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia also absent

Manchester United have announced their 20-man travelling squad for the Europa League clash with Feyenoord, with Wayne Rooney and Henrikh Mkhitaryan the stand-out names to have been left out.

Jesse Lingard, who, along with Mkhitaryan, was withdrawn at half-time of the Manchester derby defeat on Saturday is also absent, while Antonio Valencia is another to have not been included.

Jose Mourinho has already confirmed that Marcus Rashford is all set to start the meeting with the Eredivisie side, while the likes of Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Memphis Depay could also get the nod.

Mkhitaryan, who reportedly has become unhappy at life at Old Trafford due to his role in the team, did not take part in training prior to the squad flying to Rotterdam, while Phil Jones was another who didn’t take part.

United’s squad in full: De Gea, Romero, Johnstone; Darmian, Bailly, Blind, Fosu-Mensah, Rojo, Smalling; Carrick, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Memphis, Pogba, Schneiderlin, Young; Ibrahimovic, Martial, Rashford.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge Can’t Believe Manchester United Treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge can’t believe Manchester United have frozen Bastian Schweinsteiger out in a bid to get him to leave the club.

The Bayern Munich president knows the German midfielder well from his 17-year stay at the Bundesliga champions.

Schweinsteiger only left Bayern last year in a £6.5million move, signing a three-year deal as Louis van Gaal attempted to strengthen his United squad.

He did struggle to stay consistently fit in his first season at Old Trafford and could do nothing to stop van Gaal leaving the club after a disappointing campaign in charge.

But Schweinsteiger is a Champions League and World Cup winner and, despite being 32, is still a quality player when healthy.

Jose Mourinho obviously disagrees, exiling Schweini from the first team, forcing him to train with the youth team, according to reports.

He’s been linked with a return to Bayern – something new Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has denied.

And despite ignoring talk of going after Schweinsteiger, Rummenigge has criticised United for their treatment of the German legend.

Speaking in an interview with sueddeutsche.de, Rummenigge said: “I could hardly believe when I read it. This never happened before at Bayern Munich and never will happen.”

“In the future players will think twice before joining such clubs, who treat them more radically when they want to get rid of a player than a club like Borussia Dortmund or Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga would do.

“It seems like this is the price players have to pay if they join these clubs.”

That’s a pretty robust attack from Rummenigge on Mourinho and United when neither Schweinsteiger or the club have confirmed that he’s been frozen out.

“I Was Unfairly Treated At Manchester United” – Moyes

The Scot, now Sunderland manager, insists that he was not given a fair crack of the whip at Old Trafford, but maintains that his spell at the club made him better

David Moyes believes he was harshly treated by former club Manchester United as he looks ahead to his tenure with Sunderland.

Fronting the media as Sunderland manager, Moyes opened up on his time at Old Trafford, where he was sacked less than a season into a six-year deal with the Premier League giants.

However, Moyes – who was ultimately replaced by Louis van Gaal ahead of the 2014-15 campaign – has now hit back at his former employers after his move to the Stadium of Light.

“I’ve said all along that I was (unfairly treated). When you sign a six-year contract and you end up there ten months, yeah, I believe I was,” said the Scot.

“But that is life in football. Ultimately the key is to win football matches. I didn’t win enough football matches.

“You must say there were mitigating circumstances. And I think you could say there are maybe things that have gone on since then, that would actually justify that even more so.”

Nevertheless, Moyes believes that his brief spell at United did wonders for his career.

“It gave me an unbelievable idea of what it is at the top,” he added.

“I believe that’s where I can work and that’s where I should be working, and my level is that, because that is what I saw in the time I was there.

“You don’t get offered those jobs, you don’t get offered big jobs, if you’ve not done something. You don’t get offered the Real Madrid job, the Barcelona job, the Manchester United job, if you’ve not had something to suggest that there’s a reason for that job.

“Yeah I am better [as a manager]. I have had several opportunities, big ones, but timing is so positive. The timing for this job at Sunderland was right. It feels good to me.”

After being fired from Old Trafford, Moyes went on to coach Real Sociedad in La Liga, where he was also sacked after a promising start.

Allardyce The ‘Right Person’ For England Job – Mourinho

The Manchester United boss has backed his friend to deliver in his new role, which he is expected to take up on Thursday, following the resignation of Roy Hodgson

Jose Mourinho believes Sam Allardyce is the “right person” for the job of England manager, and has wished him good luck in ending the Three Lions’ long trophy drought.

The Football Association is set to confirm Sunderland boss Allardyce as Roy Hodgson’s successor on Thursday, and, speaking in Shanghai ahead of his club’s involvement in the International Champions Cup, the Manchester United manager backed Allardyce to succeed in the role which to many has become a poisoned chalice.

“You are a complicated country for the person that gets the job! I think he’s the right person for that. I think he’s a good choice but I think he needs support,” Mourinho said.

“I think you can do better in respect of that, because my experience in your country shows me that in the football world you could do a bit better.

“I think Sam has never had the big chance at the highest level, lots of experience in the Premier League but never that big one. But now he has the big one, so I think he is more than ready. I think he is a good motivator, I think he can create a good team spirit with his players.

“I wish him all the best. From my side, not just as a friend but as a Man United manager, the only thing I can promise is that I will try to support him in the best way, preparing the players for him, trying to have the English players available in good conditions to help him, and I hope he can do the same.”

The Portuguese boss added that it is high time England won a major trophy again following the solo success of the 1966 World Cup, even drawing parallels with his own nation’s first international title at Euro 2016.

Lampard Backs Mourinho For Manchester United Job

The Chelsea legend says the Portuguese has all the attributes to succeed at Old Trafford, and voiced his support for John Terry in the defender’s contract standoff with the Blues

Chelsea icon Frank Lampard believes that former coach Jose Mourinho would rise to the challenge at Manchester United should the club turn to him to revive their flagging fortunes.

The Portuguese has long been the front-runner to replace former mentor Louis van Gaal since ending his second spell at Stamford Bridge in December with the Blues languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Lampard, who won two leagues titles and three domestic trophies in Mourinho’s first spell in charge at Chelsea between 2004 and 2007, is convinced that the unemployed coach would be a success at Old Trafford should United decide to part company with Van Gaal at the end of the 2015-16 season.

“I think Mourinho can manage anywhere in the world,” the New York City FC midfielder, who was in attendance at the FIFA Interactive World Cup finals, told Goal when asked if Mourinho could return United to their former glory.

“I think he’s shown it with his record and whether it’s with Porto, a so-called smaller team in Europe; Chelsea, the success he had there; Inter, again taking a team that’s hardly won the Champions League to go and win it; Real Madrid.

“No job will be too much for him. [Manchester United is] not an easy job, similar with Antonio Conte with Chelsea [the Italian is expected to take over in the summer], but he certainly has the attributes to do it.”

Meanwhile, Lampard’s former Chelsea and England team-mate John Terry has been locked in a dispute over whether to extend his Blues contract, which is set to expire in June. The centre-back has been vocal in his desire to re-sign at Stamford Bridge, while the club appear to be reluctant to meet his demands.

However, Lampard thinks Terry’s talent and experience could be crucial in recovering from the disappointment of a season spent in mid-table obscurity.

“It’s a difficult one with John Terry,” he said. “I think, for me, he’s been probably the best defender at Chelsea again this year. I think he’s a leader, he has a huge presence with the club.

“For me, I would [give him another contract], but it’s a decision for the club to make. I know John wants to stay. I think he’s a help for the young players at the club, I think he’s a link with the fans at the club, but the decision will be made by the owners. Same as what happened with me, eventually your time comes. I’m not sure now is his time. I’ve seen him perform this year, and I think he’s done very well.”

Lampard left the Premier League behind in 2015 to join MLS franchise NYCFC midway through its debut season.

One of his team-mates at Yankee Stadium is Italy, Juventus and AC Milan legend Andrea Pirlo and the Englishman freely admits that he has been left in awe of his former World Cup and Champions League rival.

“Pirlo is great,” Lampard said. “I have huge respect from playing against him for many years, and playing with him is an absolute pleasure. His passing, his work ethic, which I didn’t know until I played with him, how hard he works in the week in training and in the gym. As a player, he’s a genius with the ball.”

What Mourinho Told Me After Chelsea’s Exit- Lukaku

Belgium star, Romelu Lukaku, has said that former Blues boss Jose Mourinho did not force him out at Chelsea and revealed the Portuguese was the first person to send him a message of support following his move to Everton.

“Choices have been made by me. By me. Not by them,” Lukaku told the Daily Express.

Mourinho has been criticised for allowing the Belgian to leave Stamford Bridge, initially on loan for the 2013-14 campaign before the move was made permanent by Everton the following summer.

Lukaku, who has scored in each of his last seven Premier League games, admits he is saddened by Mourinho’s exit and believes the criticism surrounding the former Chelsea manager is unfair.

“Everyone says it is Mourinho’s fault, but it is not his fault because I made the decision. I went to his office to ask if I could go.

“He was the first one to say, ‘Good luck.’ When I signed the deal [at Everton] at 11 o’clock, I got a text message on my old BlackBerry saying ‘Good luck, do your best and I will see you next season.’ He was the first, nobody knows that and that is why for me he gets immense respect.

Mourinho To Receive £10m In Compensation

Roman Abramovich could be forced to pay Mourinho up to £10million after the Portuguese manager signed a four-year deal this summer.

With that deal only a few months old, and no clause in Mourinho’s contract, Sportsmail understands that the sacked manager will be paid by Chelsea until he lands another job.

As part of the settlement to leave by ‘mutual consent’, he is being paid £250,000 a week up to a maximum of £10m.

If he were to take a job next week they would only pay him nominal compensation, but an extended break from football would see him earn the full £10m.

News Alert!! Jose Mourinho ‘Sacked By Chelsea’

The Portuguese boss, who has been under fire following the Blues’ poor start to the season, has been relieved of his duties by club owner Roman Abramovich

According to widespread reports, Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Chelsea following the club’s latest defeat, a 2-1 loss to Leicester City on Monday, capping off a poor start to the season that leaves the reigning Premier League champions 16th in the Premier League.

The Blues boss has been under increasing pressure in recent weeks as the club have slumped to nine defeats in sixteen league games, following a 2015-16 campaign in which the Blues swept to the title.

After the latest defeat, to Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester, the Portuguese manager publicly criticised his players, suggesting that members of the playing squad had “betrayed” him and indicating his belief that last season’s form was due to excellent managerial performances, raising the players above their natural level.

Following those comments, Mourinho’s relationship with the Chelsea boardroom and Roman Abramovich came under increasing strain and now the club have acted to remove their league-winning manager.

EPL: The Top Four Is Gone, Says Mourinho

Jose Mourinho conceded Chelsea have no chance of finishing in the Premier League’s top four after Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Leicester left them languishing just outside the relegation zone.

Mourinho’s side are 14 points behind fourth placed Manchester United with 22 matches remaining and even the Blues boss has given up on the crisis-torn champions’ hopes of making up that gap.

Goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez condemned Chelsea to their ninth defeat in 16 league games and they are now just one point above the bottom three.

“The top four is gone, clearly,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

mourinho

“I don’t accept we are in a relegation battle.

“You look at the table and we are there but you think you are in a relegation battle if you think you are there for three or four months. I don’t think that.”

Chelsea’s latest flop in a dismal season left Mourinho admitting he was growing increasingly frustrated by an astonishing slump that could lead to his sacking.

“When some of your players don’t hit the levels they are capable of it is hard to see,” he said.

“This season we are doing so bad for some reason, although not all of them.

“We were the best team for 20 or 25 minutes, maybe for a maximum of 30 minutes. Then Leicester were the best team for an hour.”

Already beset by reports that he is close to being axed by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, Mourinho hoped he had bought himself some breathing space after leading his side into the Champions League knockout stages last week.

But the loss to Claudio Ranieri’s surprise leaders will turn the heat back up on Mourinho and he responded by vowing to work even harder on the training ground.

“To turn things around, I know only one way: working at the top level,” he added.

“Day by day in training I have no complaints with them. But is it frustrating to see what they are doing in training and what they do in matches, then clearly yes.”

‘Fake’ Mourinho Is Finished As A Coach – Adrian Mutu

The Romanian, who was sacked by Chelsea for testing positive for cocaine in 2004, accused the Blues boss of only knowing of negative ways to draw a reaction from players

Jose Mourinho is “fake” and “finished” as a coach, according to former Chelsea player Adrian Mutu.

The Romanian, who currently plays for Pune City in the Indian Super League, endured a difficult relationship with Mourinho during their brief spell together at Stamford Bridge in 2004 which culminated in Mutu being sacked after testing positive for cocaine.

The 36-year-old accused the Chelsea manager of lacking man management skills and taking a negative approach to drawing a reaction from his players during periods of poor form.

“He has been a great coach in the past but, as a person, he is fake,” Mutu told the Mirror .

“He only looks after himself, and has no consideration for how his players are feeling and thinking. You could not go and talk to him

“As a coach, he is finished. There is no way back for him. How do you come back from something like this [current form]?

“You can see now how many of his players look unhappy. Why? He is the reason. He cannot talk to players like they should be spoken to.

“The first thing he does is he goes to the biggest player in his team, and tries to make him angry.

“No matter who it was, John Terry, Frank Lampard, it is just what he does for fun. That was just his way of doing things, and he won’t change .

‘Courtois Is Fit And Available For Selection’ — Mourinho

Jose Mourinho says Thibaut Courtois is fit and available for selection tomorrow but John Terry, Ramires and Falcao remain out.

The manager had hoped to have a full squad at his disposal for the visit of Bournemouth but will be without that trio, though he delivered good news in Thibaut Courtois’ return to the squad. Mourinho could not yet confirm if the Belgian would start in goal tomorrow.

The Belgium international has not played for Chelsea since the end of August after undergoing knee surgery and has missed the majority of the club’s disastrous start to the season.

“I Thought Louis Van Gaal Was An Idiot” – Xavi

The midfielder admits that it took a while for him to be convinced by the quality of the Manchester United coach and expressed sympathy for his old team-mate Victor Valdes

Barcelona icon Xavi has revealed that he thought Louis van Gaal was an “idiot” when he first took over at Barcelona.

The Dutch coach guided Barca to two league titles, a Copa del Rey and the Uefa Super Cup during his first spell at the Catalan side.

But while the midfielder admits he had initial reservations over his coaching methods, he is full of praise for the current Manchester United boss.

“After two days of training under him, I thought, ‘Who is this idiot?'” he told ESPN.

“After one week, though, I thought, ‘He’s right.’ He’ll always be in my heart, Louis van Gaal.

“He is a good person, a very good trainer. He has a very strong character, but he’s calm in the Premier League because there’s less pressure. He’s much calmer than when he was at Barca or Bayern Munich.

“He’s honest, methodical and a real perfectionist. He’s very demanding, he’s strict and he wants to achieve the highest levels possible.”

Xavi’s former Barcelona and Spain team-mate Victor Valdes is currently going through a hard time under Van Gaal, having been dropped from the United squad and criticised by the coach.

Valdes has been told he could be fined if he attends the club’s training ground before the first team has left and Xavi hopes his friend can find a way out of the situation.

“[Van Gaal and Valdes] are two strong characters, but it’s a difficult situation for Victor.

“Let’s hope he finds a solution soon. I’m sad for him. He’s a great professional, a good person. He’s training, he’s working hard. He’ll return to football. It’s better for Victor to be playing football.”

The 35-year-old, currently playing for Al Sadd, says he has been surprised by the playing style that Jose Mourinho has adopted throughout his coaching career as it is very different to the one he adhered to during his time as Van Gaal’s assistant at Barcelona.

“He was the assistant coach, someone who understood the philosophy of Barca and who shared many of the same characteristics as Van Gaal. He was very respected by the players,” he added.

“He trained us sometimes alone at Barca B and he was excellent. I’m surprised that he became known for another type of football, more defensive, because he wasn’t like that with us.”

Arsenal Goal Keeper Petr Cech Offers Thoughts On The Mourinho Vs Arsene Wenger Rivalry

The former Blues goalkeeper, who moved to the Emirates, in the transfer window has offered his thoughts on the two club’s managers

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has suggested manager Arsene Wenger and his Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho are regularly at odds because of similar personalities.

Wenger and Mourinho have experienced a fractious relationship on the touchline in their 15 head-to-head meetings – the Frenchman coming out on top just once at the Community Shield in August.

Mourinho has previously labelled his opposite number a “specialist in failure” and the pair also clashed on the touchline at Stamford Bridge last season.

Cech – who swapped the Premier League champions for Arsenal in June – suggested the pair’s winning mentalities could be a factor behind their feisty relationship.

“It’s more a question for them. But, yes, sometimes two pluses doesn’t make a plus,” he told Sportmagazine.

“The similarity is that everybody wants to win. If you ask Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger if they want to win everything: yes they do.

“You can see they don’t like losing games and I think this is something you need to have in you if you want to be successful.”

Cech was the only close-season arrival at the Emirates Stadium, with many suggesting Wenger’s lack of recruitment could hinder Arsenal’s title ambitions.

However, the 33-year-old claimed Wenger – and the Frenchman’s plans for the coming seasons -were key factors in his decision to leave Chelsea after 11 trophy-laden years.

“[Wenger] introduced me to the vision the club has for the coming years, to the reason why certain things are the way they are now and how they will be next year and the year after,” he added.

“I really liked the project in the way it matches my ambition and motivations. It’s a difficult decision to go from Chelsea to Arsenal, but I believed it was the right decision because I wanted to be part of the Premier League at a club that matches my ambitions.

“With Arsenal, that all came together. In football everything changes fast, so you need to have a clear vision and support from people at the club. Obviously the board and everyone at Arsenal believe in the manager – that’s why he’s still here.

“It’s not just for the way you are – it must be for the way you work, too. The public only see the game, they don’t see all the things that are happening behind the scenes.

“So, sometimes, judging people only on the fraction of the time you see them working can lead to different opinions.”

Chelsea Can Still Win The Premier League – Mata

The ex-Blues midfielder is refusing to rule out his former club challenging for the league this season, even with the defending champions trailing the leaders by 10 points

Manchester United star Juan Mata feels his former club Chelsea should still be considered contenders for the Premier League title.

Jose Mourinho has admitted the champions will struggle to retain their title after a start to the season that has seen them pick up just eight points from as many games, the Chelsea boss insisting a top-four finish has become their priority.

Mata, though, does not think the west Londoners should be discounted from the race to win the trophy when they still have so much time to recover their form.

“Chelsea are in an unusual situation,” the 27-year-old, who swapped Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford in January 2014, told Onda Cero.

“It is somewhat circumstantial and I do not think it will go on for an extended period of time. They do not have a squad that should have them in that position in the Premier League.

“We have seen the gap of 10 points arrive in two months and I think Chelsea will come out of that situation quickly. In fact, I do not rule them out of the title fight.”

Mata spent two-and-a-half seasons with the Blues prior to joining United and said Mourinho, who was in charge for his final season at the club, is just one of many big characters in the game today.

The Spain international continued: “He is not the most incredible character I have ever encountered in football. There are many characters in football, though perhaps they are not all as well known.

“Journalists always say in England that he gives them a lot of work and play, so I guess he is good for journalists.”

‘Mourinho Is Obsessed With Wenger’ – Ian Wright

The two managers have clashed repeatedly in recent seasons and their war of words has continued following Chelsea’s recent 2-0 win over Arsenal

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is “obsessed” with Arsenal bossArsene Wenger.

The two managers have clashed repeatedly in recent seasons, with the latest spat between the pair coming on the back of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over the Gunners two weeks ago.

Mourinho was incensed that Diego Costa received a retrospective three-match ban after Wenger had urged officials to punish the striker in the aftermath of the game following an incident involving Laurent Koscielny.

The Portuguese then claimed his rival boss receives preferential treatment from officials before again criticising his failure to win the Premier League in the last 10 years.

“His obsession with Wenger is mystifying. I just can’t understand it,” Wright told The Sun.

“There’s something that happens with him whenever he talks or thinks about Arsene. He gets antagonised all the time.

“I think the big problem is that Jose looks at Arsene and his treatment from the media.

“Jose rightly feels Arsene hasn’t achieved as much as he has. I think his issue is that Arsene has not won as much or achieved as much as he has – yet still gets as many plaudits. It just irks him that Arsene doesn’t get more criticism.

“What I can’t understand is why it irks him so much when he’s got the medals to show everybody what he’s about. He just can’t be happy with himself, for some reason, even though what he does is brilliant.”

Benitez A Better Coach For Real Madrid Than Mourinho – Perez

The Blancos president believes the current manager at Santiago Bernabeu is the best he has worked with, though he did praise the Chelsea boss for his time in Spain.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has no plans to bring Jose Mourinho back to the Santiago Bernabeu, labelling Rafael Benitez “the best coach I’ve ever had”.

Mourinho’s Chelsea have started the Premier League in dreadful fashion with just four points from as many games, prompting rumours owner Roman Abramovich may lose patience with the Portuguese.

But if Mourinho does lose his current job, it looks unlikely he could turn to Madrid for rescue.

Under Benitez, Madrid have four points from two La Liga fixtures, while there is the not-so-small matter of Mourinho’s final season at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he fell out with Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas, the media and fans.

Speaking to Cadena COPE , Perez said: “I have no intention of re-signing him [Mourinho], although he did give us an important step up in terms of quality.

“Before him, we struggled to make it past the last 16 in Europe and that wasn’t good enough.”

Perez added: “[Benitez is] the best coach I’ve ever had.”

Mourinho: I knew Chelsea Were In Trouble After 10 Seconds

The Blues boss pinpointed Sergio Aguero’s early one-on-one with Asmir Begovic as the moment that he began to fear for his side after their humbling at the Etihad Stadium.

Jose Mourinho insists he knew Chelsea were in trouble just 10 seconds into their 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Premier League title rivals Manchester City.

Goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho saw off the Blues as Manuel Pellegrini’s men made a powerful early-season statement in their bid to claim a third league title in five years.

But Chelsea might have been dead and buried by half-time; Aguero missed several clear chances in the first 45 minutes including one in the opening moments when he raced onto a David Silva pass and fired a low shot against the shin of an onrushing Asmir Begovic.

Mourinho afterwards revealed this was the point at which he feared for his side and voiced his frustration at their uncharacteristically slack defending.

“When the game started and 10 seconds later you have Aguero behind the defensive line and facing Begovic, immediately you get the notion that the start wasn’t good,” the Chelsea boss told reporters. “After that he made two or three saves because of that fragility.

“I was the first one to be disappointed. All week you are speaking about movements, directions of the game, mechanisms, Aguero’s runs and Aguero’s positions, the wingers coming inside, and after 10 seconds Aguero is in the face of Begovic. We were defensively poor in the first half.”

Mourinho also elaborated on his surprising decision to substitute captain John Terry for tactical reasons at half-time as Chelsea pushed for an equaliser.

“The point was not to take John out it was to bring [Kurt] Zouma in – I wanted my fastest player on the pitch, not on the bench,’ he added. “It was clear for me that Zouma has to play. I had to bring one out and I brought out my captain. He was on the bench and still my captain because the armband is just the armband.

“I can tell you that he was not dancing in the dressing-room, and I can tell you also that he was not having a bad reaction. He did what everybody does. The manager says ‘this guy comes in and that guy goes out’, and they all do the same. They wait for the team to go out, they shower and change and go back to the bench.

“My decision was proven right because we controlled the depth of the game and the counter-attack totally. But John is a player with my entire confidence for sure. With me, he was never substituted but with other managers he was not even selected. He was not playing or people thought his career at Chelsea was over.

“I don’t know if you ask many questions to [Rafa] Benitez, [Andre] Villas-Boas, [Roberto] Di Matteo, the ones who never played him. I’m the one you shouldn’t ask because I’m the one who played him every game, made him captain and recovered him from a difficult situation with other managers.

“I’m the one who has the right to look at the game and to say I want Zouma on.”

Beating Arsenal & Wenger Is Nothing Special – Mourinho

The Frenchman is yet to beat his Chelsea counterpart in 13 attempts, with the two set to face off in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says beating Arsenal and Arsene Wenger is “nothing special” as he prepares to take on the Gunners in Sunday’s Community Shield at Wembley.

Mourinho and Wenger have a long-standing rivalry, with the Frenchman yet to beat his counterpart in 13 attempts, while the Blues manager described the 65-year-old as a “specialist in failure” 18 months ago.

The pair come face to face this weekend as Arsenal look to win the Community Shield for the second consecutive year, but Mourinho is unconcerned by the make up of his opponents with silverware on the line.

When asked if he takes pride in his record against Wenger, Mourinho replied: ”No. It doesn’t matter, Arsenal, the manager, whoever.

“I think [the Community Shield is] in between. It’s more than a friendly, like with Barcelona and PSG [friendlies], but it’s less than a league game. Different motivation.

“Who knows?” he said when questioned on Wenger’s ability to win. “I’ve never made a special thing about wins over Arsenal. I don’t explode with happiness when I beat them, and I won’t make drama when I lose.”

Mourinho has confirmed that Gary Cahill and Diego Costa will be fit to play on Sunday after picking up knocks against Barcelona.

God Doesn’t Care Who Wins: Jose Mourinho Admits He Never Prays for Chelsea

Statistically speaking, Chelsea football manager Jose Mourinho is the most successful club manager in world football. He has won the league titles in each of the four countries where he has managed – his native Portugal, Italy, Spain and England. He has won the Champions League twice.

You would think he talks to God every time before his wins, however, in a new interview, Jose says the reverse is the case –  he talks to God every day, but never about football and never discusses the game with his wife.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Mourinho admitted that he has a strong faith in God and he tries his

best to separate his professional and his family life. The 52-year-old football manager and father-of-two said:

‘I believe totally, clearly. Every day I pray; every day I speak with Him. I don’t go to the church every day, not even every week. I go when I feel I need to. And when I’m in Portugal, I always go.’

What does he pray for?

“For my family! For my kids, for my wife, for my parents, for happiness and a good family life. But I can say the reality is I never go to the church to speak with Him about football. Never!”’

Despite his intensely arrogant persona on the sideline, Mourinho also claims that he is a good person.

‘I think so. I try to be. And I think I am. I don’t have problems with family or friends. I am a good family person; I am a good friend. I try to support people that I don’t even know. Do I make mistakes? Yes. My professional area is not only very competitive – it is competitive and emotional and [you must] push people for a certain kind of behaviour – absolutely, yes. But the professional life is only part of a person; a person is much more than that.’

Chelsea are currently top of the league and are playing struggling QPR this weekend.

Mourinho and his wife, Matilde, were teenage sweethearts, growing up a street away from each other in the coastal town of Setúbal. They have been married for 26 years, and have two teenage children, also named Matilde and José.

I Wish Manchester City, Arsenal Do Better Than Us – Mourinho

Jose Mourinho launched a passionate defence of his Chelsea team on Friday, two days after elimination from the Champions League in acrimonious circumstances by Paris Saint-Germain.

The Premier League leaders, who are at home to Southampton on Sunday, were knocked out on away goals after extra time despite the fact that PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been sent off as early as the 31st minute.

Jose Mourinho

Ibrahimovic accused Chelsea players of behaving like “babies” by crowding around the referee once the Swede had fouled Brazilian play-maker Oscar. The inference was that they had tried to influence the official, a tactic captain John Terry insisted afterwards was perfectly legitimate and that had also been employed by the opposition.

Mourinho, who claimed after the reverse fixture with Southampton, a 1-1 draw on December 28 last year, that there was a conspiracy amongst domestic referees to punish his side unfairly, was adamant that Chelsea were no more guilty of that than any other Premier League club.

“If my players surround the referee, we are charged,” he said. “We have to pay a fine and if we do that, the players pay the fine. At this moment we have eight months of competition, we have been charged once and we paid for that. It’s as simple as that.

“Go to the Premier League and see how many teams are charged. The only thing I know is Chelsea were charged once. It is my responsibility to train the players and help them cope with the pressure.

“The people that were out of the Champions League on Wednesday are the same people that won the League Cup and the same people that are going to win the Premier League. It is the same people.”

Mourinho also rounded on television pundits Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness after the ex-Liverpool players had been highly critical of Chelsea’s performance and behaviour.

“Maybe because of diet and maybe the quality of the products we are eating, memories are getting shorter,” said. “Because when Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness speak about it, it’s because they are having a problem for sure.

“Just to close the chapter on the Champions League, the game finished and I was in the tunnel. One by one – not just the players but the coaches and everybody from PSG – I shook their hands. I told them they deserved it. I wished them good luck for the future.

“This was the way we behave after a defeat. This is the example my players get after a defeat. I went to my dressing room, I put everybody together – not just the players – and because I am normally very calm and deserve to go home and reflect and think and speak without any doubt or emotion, this is what we did.

Mourinho: ‘We Deserved to be Punished’ But There is ‘No Time to Cry’

Well, that was … something.  Weird night.  For all the talk of Chelsea not being good enough on the day in a general sense, it was still two set piece goals that undid our 2014-15 Champions League campaign.  And that certainly is not good enough under any circumstance.

Here are some post-match thoughts from the Chelsea manager.

“They deserved to win.  When a team cannot defend two corners and concedes two goals from a corner a team doesn’t deserve to win.”

“We couldn’t cope with the pressure of playing with one player more and playing at home. For me it was a surprise.”

“For them it was easy with 10 men – defensive organisation, two lines of four, Cavani in attack, waiting for the right moment at a corner or from a mistake. Mentally they had nothing to lose. I know that feeling having played with 10 men in the Champions League. They were experienced, they were good. We deserved to be punished.”

While I loathe the idea of deserving things in a sports setting, there is a saying that goes, “you deserve what you accept,” and that I feel is fairly apt in this case.  We simply did not put up the proper fight tonight.  The hunger, the desire seemed to be lacking.  Mourinho shouted his head off on the sideline, but the 11 Chelsea statues were unmoved.  Here was an almighty scrap that lasted a little over 120 minutes, and we did not emerge as the winners, conceding twice in the final five minutes of, first, regulation, then extra time.

“The players felt the responsibility of the game too much especially when the opposition had 10 men. Clearly some of the players couldn’t cope with that. The individual performances were not good enough.”

“There was no accumulation of matches; there was a normal period of training using the same methodology that has pushed us to be top of the league since day one. Apart from Matic who trained only one day, every player was training normally. It’s obviously not a physical situation, that’s not the reason.”

“When you concede two goals from two corners it’s even more evidence of what I’m saying. It’s about lack of concentration, it’s about lack of responsibility to cope with the markers and the space you have to control.”

We Want Mourinho, Guardiola, Others, Says Nigeria Sports Minister

The Nigeria Sports Minister, Tamuno Danagogo, has told the Nigeria Football Federation that Nigeria only deserves first class Coaches like Stephen Keshi, Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho.

Briefing journalists, Mr. Danagogo said the NFF should search for a first class foreign coach in the mould of the aforementioned coaches in case Stephen Keshi refuses to sign a new contract with the Nigeria “And when we say the best hands, we should be looking at coaches in the class of the Jose Mourinho’s of this world, Pep Guardiola… Those are the kind of coaches we should be looking at.

“What I have urged the NFF to do is make sure that should Keshi not be given the job, a coach with a lesser pedigree than Keshi is employed. I have said we should encourage our local coaches,”

“Many have argued that presently Keshi is the best we have for now, while others are of the view that he has done his best…”

Chelsea Losing To Tottenham Is Not An Option – Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has warned his team that losing to Tottenham in Sunday’s League Cup final is not an option.

The Portuguese is seeking his first trophy in his second spell as Blues boss, having not visited Wembley for a major cup final since winning both the FA Cup and League Cup in 2006-07.

He told reporters: “It is a final we have to play and a final we have to win.

“This is the only moment since I arrived in July 2013 that I don’t think about the future of this club,” Mourinho added. “I just think about the moment, I just think about this game.

“We have a final to win on Sunday and nothing else matters.”

Mourinho hopes that reaching the national stadium each season will become an expectation within the Chelsea team as his current group of players develop and mature.

“Chelsea cannot win everything and cannot win every season,” he said. “If you want to do that we have to change country to where the competition is not so hard.

“Chelsea, in the last 10 years, won just the League Cup twice but was many times at Wembley and won FA Cups, won Premier Leagues and the European Cup.

“We try to build with this new generation of players and try to make Wembley something normal for us and try to go there year after year.”

The 52-year-old, who confirmed that John Obi Mikel would not be available to replace the suspended Nemanja Matic due to injury, also spoke of his respect for Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

“He’s a guy that I respect,” Mourinho remarked. “He’s doing his work the same as many people. We don’t have problems.

“I think it will be an easy job for the fourth official because between both benches there will be peace.”
