Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, on Thursday gave out various cash compensation, amounting to N14 million, to those who lost their valuables during the last week’s suicide bombing in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The compensation was given to the owners of the four vehicles, mostly petroleum tankers, that got burnt after two teenage female suicide bombers detonated their devices outside the NNPC depot.

The governor also announced a N200 million loan facility for the members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to help the members boost their businesses that were negatively affected by the insurgency.

He implored the victims to bear the pains caused by the incident as God destined it so.

The governor however advised the petroleum marketers on the need to get an alternative and secured parking space for their trucks and fuel tankers.

Mr. Shettima directed the State Ministry of Land and Survey to carry out a comprehensive survey of the proposed IPMAN Zonal Area Office and Central Garage located near NNPC Mega Station Damboa Road Maiduguri and to forward the survey plan to his office for further necessary action.

The state Chairman of IPMAN, Maiduguri Depot, Mohammed Kuluwu, informed the governor that three petroleum product tankers and one private Volkswagen golf were damaged the suicide bombers attacked.

Teenage ISIS member kills his entire family after his suicide belt accidentally goes off at home

A teenager who had been recruited by the Islamic State in Mosul killed the whole of his six-member family when his explosive belt went off inside their home east of the city.

Three children were reportedly among those killed by the unnamed boy’s explosive device.

The boy, who belonged to the so-called ‘Cubs of the Caliphate’ squad, had been given the suicide belt by other members of the terror group, Alsumaria News reports.

He put the device on and went back to his home in the al-Wehda district of Mosul, where it later exploded, a source told the news channel.

‘The teenager’s belt exploded inside his home. It appeared later that all of his family, including three children, were killed,’ said the source, on condition of anonymity.

The man said Islamic State regularly recruits teenagers to wear explosive devices, especially in eastern Mosul.

‘It comes as part of ISIS strategy to strengthen its grip on the ground and intimidate the people,’ he added.

The extremist group has a history of recruiting underage fighters, some of whom have appeared in the group’s propaganda videos, with children even taking on the role of executioner.

ISIS has been fighting to retain control of Mosul, which the terror group took over in June 2014.

It had been declared the capital of the self-proclaimed ‘Islamic Caliphate’ but the extremist group is being pushed out of the city after Iraqi troops and US-led air forces launched an operation to liberate the city last month.

Today, Iraqi special forces said Islamic State militants battling to regain control of Mosul have fired mortar rounds on government-controlled neighborhoods in the east of the city, killing at least seven civilians.

Army medic Bashir Jabar, in charge of a field clinic run by the special forces, said IS attacked the city’s eastern Tahrir neighborhood and nearby areas as civilians were fleeing to camps sheltering displaced families.

Mr Jabar said two children were among those killed, while 35 people were wounded, including 18 children.

On a donkey-drawn wood cart, a grieving family carried the body of their 18-year-old son, wrapped in a white plastic bag.

The slain teen’s uncle, Mohammed Ismael, said his nephew was in the street when a mortar shell landed nearby, wounding him fatally in the head.

The Bauchi Suicide Bomb Attack…

A suicide bomber killed at least 7 people outside a commercial bank in a northeast Nigerian town on Friday, the latest suspected attack by Islamist Boko Haram insurgents, police and local residents said.

The blast occurred at an ATM point of a branch of the First Bank of Nigeria in Azare in Bauchi state, an area that has suffered previous attacks by the Islamist militants who appear to be ignoring a ceasefire deal announced by the government last month.

“We can confirm that one of our branches in Azare was attacked by suspected insurgents, specifically the ATM point,” Babatunde Lasaki, First Bank’s head of media and external relations, told Reuters by phone from the bank’s HQ in Lagos.

Local police said they believed a female suicide bomber carried out the attack, and four other suspects were arrested.

Police confirmed seven dead at the scene, with 10 people taken to hospital. An employee of another nearby bank in Azare said at least 13 people died as a result of the blast.

Lasaki said none of First Bank’s staff at the Azare branch, which is on the main road to Kano, were among the victims.

Banks have been among the locations attacked by Boko Haram, which has killed thousands, mostly in the northeast, in its campaign to establish an Islamic enclave in northern Nigeria.

The group, whose name means “Western education is sinful” in the local Hausa language and whose targets include schools, is described by the government as the biggest threat to security in Nigeria, Africa’s biggest economy and leading oil producer.

On Oct 22, a bomb exploded at a bus station in Azare, killing at least five people and wounding 12.

Boko Haram: Suicide Blast kills 23 in Yobe

A suicide bomber killed at least 23 people in a procession of Shi’ite Muslims marking the ritual of Ashoura in northeast Nigeria’s Yobe state on Monday, witnesses said.

In the suicide bombing in Potiskum in Yobe state, a territory at the heart of an insurgency by Sunni Muslim Boko Haram rebels, the attacker joined the line of Shi’ites before setting off his device as they marched through a market in the town, resident Yusuf Abdullahi said.

“I heard a very heavy explosion as if it happened in my room. It took place just 200 meters from my house,” he said. Another person carrying an explosive that did not go off was arrested, he said.

Mohammed Gana, whose brother was killed in the attack, said he counted 23 bodies at the scene.

Another Potiskum resident, Abubakar Saliu, said soldiers started shooting immediately after the explosion, but it was not clear who they fired at or if anyone was hit by the gunfire.

Ashoura marks the death in battle more than 1,300 years ago of the Prophet Mohammad’s grandson Imam Hussein.
