Bizarre: 6 injured as FRSC official throws stone into moving vehicle, causing accident.

There was pandemonium in Sokoto yesterday when an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) hurled a stone into a moving commercial vehicle, a Toyota Cricket Wagon with registration number SLM 56 AA, hitting the driver, as a result of which he lost control and the vehicle somersaulted,  injuring all the passengers on board, including an 8-year-old girl.
The accident occurred about 10 am along Western Bye-pass in the Sokoto metropolis.
The FRSC official and his colleagues wanted to escape but were stopped by a passer-by who jumped into their patrol vehicle and removed its key. Sensing what might befall them, they moved out of  the car and ran away. Another account said one of them was lynched by a mob who also smashed the glasses of the patrol vehicle and punctured its tyres.
It was gathered that they wanted to set the vehicle ablaze but for the quick intervention of the police and men of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps who dispersed them.
The driver of the commercial vehicle, Muhammad Sanusi, while speaking to Daily Trust, said they were coming to Sokoto from Silame local government area before the accident.
According to him, he was asked to stop by the officers and as he was driving off the road to park properly, one of the corps members who thought he wanted to run away picked a very big stone and pelted him with it.
The stone, he said, hit him on his right hand as a result of which he lost control of the vehicle.
When our reporter visited the scene of the incident, men of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps were guiding the patrol vehicle while policemen were busy trying to pacify the angry mob.
A Special Road Marshal who was at the scene, blamed what he called overzealousness of the officers for the accident.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Sector Command Aliyu Kanya said they were still gathering facts on  the accident after which they would address a press conference.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sokoto state  Command, Almustapha Sani confirmed the incident but said  he was yet to be given details  by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.
Alhaji Aminu A. Dikko, the counselor representing Labani ward where the affected commercial driver hailed from, was also at the scene of the accident and  said Silame local government council would ensure justice was done to the case.

Kogi Election Tribunal: Thugs Stone Wada

It was a near-tragic outing for former Governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, on Tuesday as thugs hauled stones at his vehicle at the State governorship election tribunal sitting at the Jabi district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The incident occurred about 1:35 pm at the premises of an Abuja High Court where the tribunal was located.

Wada was at the tribunal where he is challenging the return of Alhaji Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the November 21, and December 5, state governorship election.

The thugs who besieged his vehicle outside the tribunal chanting solidarity songs in favour of APC, later went wild and started hauling stones at his vehicle.

His driver sensing danger quickly sped off at a neck- breaking speed even as security operatives were left helpless.

Reacting to the development, the governor described the attack on him as barbaric, acts of beastality and in responsibility to recourse to acts of thuggery.

His Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Jacob Edi who spoke on the matter condemned the development in its totality.

“To think that this took place in the premises of a court of law is highly condemnable whoever their paymasters are. For us, no condition will make us recourse to thuggery.

“Thuggery in obsolete and no longer lucrative. One of the cardinal achievements of Capt. Wada is that he put an end to thuggery because he believed that energies of the youth should be put into productive use and not destructive acts.”

Meanwhile, the tribunal has adjourned hearing of the petition between the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Yahaya Bello to April 11 and 12, 2016.
The petition by Labour Party (LP) against Yahaya Bello was adjourned to April 6 and 7, 2016.

In the petition by Wada, proceedings were stalled following the inability of counsel to parties to resolve the issues arising from the schedule of documents to be tendered by the petitioner.

Accordingly, the tribunal adjourned till April 13.

Wada’s petition, which is been handled by Chief Chris Uche, (SAN) leading two other Senior Advocates of Nigeria among other lawyers, had the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Alhaji Bello and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as respondents.

The Federal government on Tuesday lamented that the massive looting of public funds perpetrated by some officials of government under the immediate past administration is seriously affecting the operations of government, just as it assured that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring the safe return of the Chibok girls. Consequently, the government has vowed that nobody, among those who contributed to the present mess that Nigeria currently finds herself, will go unpunished.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated this on Tuesday at a press conference in Abuja. The Minister equally said that the government is seriously concerned about the safe return of the over 200 secondary school girls kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State over 600 days ago. Alhaji Mohammed thus assured that no stone will be left unturned by the soldiers in the North Eastern part of the country to ensure that the kidnapped girls are rescued and returned safely to their people. According to him, “the military is leaving no stone unturned to get them (the Chibok girls).

The government is very concerned about the safe return of the Chibok girls. There are so many things that the soldiers are doing underground that cannot be exposed to the public. For security reason, we can not disclose certain information. On the issue of the ongoing agitation for Biafra Republic by some people in the South Eastern part of the country, Alhaji Mohammed pointed out that the Federal government was doing everything to tame the agitation. The Minister added however that such agitation has to be subtle.
