Man Who fired Gunshot at George Zimmerman Sentenced to 20 Years In Prison for Attempted Murder

The Florida man who fired a gunshot at perpetual menace George Zimmerman was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for attempted murder.

Matthew Apperson, 37, had testified that he shot in self-defense during a road rage incident with Zimmerman last year. He said Zimmerman’s intimidating reputation — especially for his fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin — made him fear for his life.

But a Seminole County jury convicted Apperson last month of attempted second-degree murder, as well as shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault.

Zimmerman and Apperson both accused each other of beginning a confrontation and car chase in May 2015.

A reminder that George Zimmerman is cancer to society

Zimmerman testified that Apperson was shooting to kill without provocation. He said Apperson appeared to be glad when he believed his shot hit and killed Zimmerman, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Twenty years is Florida’s mandatory minimum sentence for shooting at another person with a gun.

But Zimmerman infamously walked free after shooting and killing Martin, an unarmed black teenager, after a scuffle in 2012. Zimmerman, who was a volunteer neighborhood watchman at the time, claimed self-defense and was acquitted.

He has since incessantly bragged about killing the teen and even auctioned the gun he used in the fatal confrontation, supposedly for $250,000.

Father Of British-Born Oregon Shooting Gunman Says He Is ‘As Shocked As Anyone

The dad of British-born Oregon gunman Chris Harper Mercer (pictured above) has spoken of his disbelief after his son killed 10 people and injured seven in a US college gun rampage yesterday.

The killer burst into Umpqua Community College in Roseburg and opened fire. Eye-witnesses say he was asking victims their religion before shooting people who identified themselves as Christian.

The 26-year-old was later killed in a shootout with police.

Dad Ian Mercer told reporters outside his home he is ‘as surprised as anyone’ at the tragedy.
He said: “Obviously, it’s been a devastating day. Devastating for me and my family.

“I’m just as shocked as everybody at what happened today. I’ve just been talking to the police and the FBI. That’s all the details I have right now, is what you know already.”

Police recovered four weapons at the scene, including three handguns and a long-range rifle, according to reports.

Gunman Kills 2 People And Injures 7 In A Louisiana Movie Theatre

A 58 year old white gunman opened fire on movie goers last night in a Louisiana movie theater, killing 3 people, including himself and injuring as many as 7 people, some of whom are in critical condition, a police official said.

City Marshal Brian Pope said that the gunman opened fire at the Grand Theatre in Lafayette, Louisiana where people were watching the comedy, ‘Trainwreck’ before turning the gun on himself.

No one knows his motive for the shooting yet. Police are still investigating.

Gov of Louisiana, Gov Bobby Jindal says the gun man shot 2 friends who are friends were together when the gunman started shooting. He said he was told one friend took the bullet for her friend and in the process stopped the shooter from killing more people.

His name hasn’t been released yet. Will update as I get more info.

Update:
At a second news conference late Thursday, authorities said they had found the gunman’s vehicle with a suspicious package inside. A bomb squad and hazmat team had been called in to assist and the area near the theater was evacuated. Colonel Mike Edmonson of the Louisiana State Police said that there are no other suspects apart from the deceased shooter.

The gunman opened fire with a handgun at the Grand 16 Theatre in Lafayette, approximately 40 miles east of Baton Rouge. Authorities said approximately 100 people were inside the theater at the time.
The shooting happened about 20 minutes into a 7 p.m. showing of the movie “Trainwreck,” said Katie Domingue.

“We heard a loud pop we thought was a firecracker,” Domingue told the newspaper. Domingue said she saw “an older white man” standing up and shooting down into the theater, but not in her direction.

“He wasn’t saying anything. I didn’t hear anybody screaming either,” Domingue said.

Domingue said  she heard about six shots before she and her fiance ran to the nearest exit, leaving behind her shoes and purse.

Jalen Fernell said he was watching the film “Southpaw” with friends in an adjacent theater when he heard the first shots. Initially, he thought they were part of the movie.

“About five seconds later, sirens went off and I realized it wasn’t the movie,” said Fernell, who added that moviegoers were told to leave the area over a loudspeaker. Outside the theater, the 20-year-old said “I saw a woman lying on the ground outside with blood everywhere. She was shot in the leg.”

“We didn’t know what to do. You’re scared to walk through the parking lot. You don’t know if the guy’s in a car, hiding in the parking lot,” Fernell said. He watched as police with assault rifles entered the building and described hearing a barrage of gunshots “like a war going on.”

Fernell said he heard from a police car radio that six people were down in Theater 14. After more gunshots, he heard that the suspect was down and had committed suicide.

Police said they had closed other theaters in the area as a precaution. State and federal personnel were on hand to assist in the investigation.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal arrived at the scene approximately two hours after the shooting. At a news conference, Jindal praised the response of local law enforcement and asked for prayers on behalf of the victims.

“The best thing anybody can do right now is to think about them, pray for them, shower them with your love is the most important thing we will get through this,” Jindal said. “We will get through this. We are a resilient community. This is an awful night for Lafayette. This is an awful night for Louisiana. This is an awful night for the United States.”

Comedian Amy Schumer, the star of “Trainwreck,” tweeted her condolences.

Tour Guide Reveals Moment He Threw An Ashtray At The Tunisian Gunman, In A Bid To Save Tourists

The man, known only as Mahdi (top left) attempted to thwart the killer by throwing an ashtray at his head after seeing him gun down dozens of tourists as they sunbathed on Friday. The 26-year-old tour guide has since told of trying to pile tourists into a little fishing boat to escape the beach, describing those murdered as ‘like family’. He said the fear of losing his job was what spurred him to attack Seifeddine Rezgui, the ISIS terrorist responsible for the attack. Despite Mahdi’s efforts, Rezgui continued his rampage, murdering 38 people before he was shot down in an alleyway while he prayed. (UK Daily Mail)

US Church Killing: 21-Year Old Killer Told Victims That They Were Intruders In His Country

More evidences are coming out after survivors told police that 21-year old Dylann Storm Roof sat in the South Carolina church on Wednesday night for an hour before getting up to say  ‘You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go’ and then firing nine people on the spot.

The 21-year old who was arrested yesterday was seen in a jumpsuit, chains, handcuffs and a bullet-proof vest being chaperoned by dozens of armed police officers on to an airplane at Shelby-Cleveland County Regional Airport bound for South Carolina.

Police say he surrendered without contest and was arrested when an officer approached his black Hyundai.

How Florist Helped Police Catch Suspected Charleston Shooter

It started out as just another day for Debbie Dills, but that quickly changed. Debbie was running late Thursday morning on her way into work at Frady’s Florist in Kings Mountain, N.C., but she was actually right on time…to help police catch the alleged Charleston church shooter.

Dills and her boss, Todd Frady (both pictured above), made the initial calls around 10:35 a.m. that led to the arrest of suspected shooter Dylann Roof in Shelby, according to local reports.

Dills had been following the news surrounding the tragedy that struck Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., the night before, and recognized the car and Roof’s bowl haircut when she passed him on the highway.

“I saw the pictures of him with the bowl cut. I said, ‘I’ve seen that car for some reason.’ I look over, and it’s got a South Carolina tag on it,” Dills said. “I thought, ‘Nah, that’s not his car.’ Then, I got closer and saw that haircut. I was nervous. I had the worst feeling. Is that him or not him?”

So she called her boss for advice.

Frady said he made a call to officer Shane Davis of the Kings Mountain Police Department, who relayed to Shelby Police that the suspect’s black Hyundai Elantra was traveling west on the highway.

“I had been praying for those people on my way to work,” Dills said she followed Roof’s car until police arrived, a journey that covered some 35 miles, she explained. “I was in the right place at the right time that the Lord puts you.”
