Man Whose Restaurant Was Crowned World’s Best, Found Dead In An Apparent Suicide

Chef Benoit Violier, whose Swiss restaurant was crowned the best in the world last month, has been found dead in an apparent suicide, police said.

His body was discovered late Sunday afternoon in his home in Crissier in western Switzerland, a statement on the Vaud canton police website said Monday.

Violier, who was 44 years old, ran the three Michelin-starred Restaurant De L’Hotel De Ville Crissier-Suisse. In December, France’s prestigious La Liste ranking crowned the establishment the world’s best restaurant and Violier showed up to receive the award from the French foreign ministry grinning from ear to ear.

The initial investigation points to suicide by gunshot, police said. The authorities said no further comments would be issued at this time out of respect for the family.

Drake Opens Restaurant, Serena Williams Was Present

The 28-year-old rapper had a low-key celebration for the opening of Fring’s, his new restaurant in his hometown of Toronto, and there was one very important guest.

Longtime friend and now rumored girlfriend Serena Williams was spotted entering Drizzy’s party, wearing stiletto pumps, a white skirt and denim top. Also in attendance at the opening were Jada Pinkett Smith and Jaden Smith.

No word if Drake’s restaurant will offer “filets with the truffle butter”, “scallops and glasses of Dolce,” or crab like the one he eats “out in Malibu at Nobu,” but the celeb did partner up with chef Susur Lee, of the restaurants Lee, Bent, and Luckee, and past contestant on Iron Chef and Top Chef Masters, on the venture.

Anambra Govt. Responds To Human Meat Restaurant Allegation

The Anambra Government said it had investigated reports that human meat was found in a restaurant in Awka and found same to be false, thereby urging the public to ignore the story.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mary Nwogu, in Awka on Thursday.

It described the reports, which was published by the BBC, regarding the closure of the said restaurant selling human flesh in the state by the police, as false and malicious.

It said the report was part of a wider smear campaign by anti-democratic forces and enemies of progress attempting to sabotage the infrastructural and social development in the state.

“The government, having investigated the story and found same to be false, hereby urges the public to ignore the said story,” the commissioner said.

“These individuals, who go by various aliases on social media and on some other media platforms, have continued to feed unsuspecting members of the public with lies about the state.”

It said the police spokesperson in the state, Uche Ezeh, had debunked the story.

The commissioner also said that the false report published by a national daily had been retracted and the organisation apologised having found it to be untrue.
