No Plans To Replace Service Chiefs– Presidency

The Presidency on Monday denied report in the media of plans by President Muhammadu Buhari to replace the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, as Service Chiefs.

It said Olonisakin, who is due to retire from the Army next week, is yet to be replaced.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, reads: “It is necessary to respond to a fictive story published in today’s edition of New Telegraph Newspaper, to the effect that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the replacement of Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, as Service Chiefs.

“The newspaper, rather than rush to print an unsubstantiated story, would have done better to confirm the information at its disposal, from many available military and government information channels.

“It then would have avoided the self-inflicted wound of publishing a one-legged story that is not completely true, and damaging its brand in the process.

“Gen. Olonisakin is due to retire from the Army next week, having satisfied the official number of years in service. He is yet to be replaced.

“But the Chief of Naval Staff has a short while more, and President Buhari could, therefore, not have approved his replacement yet.”

The statement noted that the administration has repeatedly pledged commitment to transparency and accountability, which resulted in the availability of information to the media.

Nasarawa Govt To Replace Striking Workers With Fresh Graduates

Nassarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, on Saturday threatened to recruit fresh graduates to replace workers in the state currently on strike over non-payment of their salary.

The governor issued the threat in Nassarawa Eggon at the celebration of the 35th coronation anniversary of Aren Eggon, Dr Bala Angbazo. He, however, appealed to the workers to return to work, recalling that the state was among the first in the country to implement the N18,000 minimum wage in 2011.

He commended the Aren Eggon for his contributions toward the sustenance of peace in the state and urged the people to support the government and the traditional rulers in the effort, regardless of religious and political affiliations. “I want to appeal to the striking workers to go back to work as the decision by the state government to review their salary downward was a result of dwindling economy.

“It is also caused by the fall in the price of crude oil and declining allocation from the Federation Account.

“The state government will take stock of attendance of striking workers that return to work and invite applications from graduates in order to replace those still on strike,” the governor said.

He explained that the downward review of the workers’ salary was to accommodate other sectors of the economy as well as develop infrastructure in the state. In his good will message, Mr James Ali-Manza, the National President of Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), said that the association would continue to support government policies.

We Will Replace Buhari In 2019, Sheriff Vows

Newly-appointed national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ali Modu Sheriff, on Wednesday vowed to lead the party to regain control of the federal government in 2019.

Mr. Sheriff said nothing would stop his party, which lost power in 2015, from ousting the current All Progressives Congress’ administration.

Mr. Sheriff is a founding member of the All Progressives Congress. He defected to the PDP in 2014 ahead of national elections in 2015.

He gave his remarks on Wednesday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, during a thanksgiving service organised to mark the victory of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the Supreme Court.

The court had on February 3 affirmed Mr. Okezie’s victory in the April 11, 2015 governorship election.

Mr. Sheriff, a former senator and governor of Borno State, who was named PDP national chairman on Tuesday night, said the PDP would soon come out with its master plan on how it would defeat the All Progressives Congress from power.

“We are here today, we are starting from here, and we are going to Aso Rock, Insha Allah by 2019,” the PDP chairman said.

Kogi: APC Officially Presents Yahaya Bello To Replace Late Audu After Long Hours Of Meeting

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has unveiled Alh. Yahaya Bello, popularly known as Fair Plus as the replacement for the late Prince Abubakar Audu. It would be recalled that Alh. Yahaya Bello was runner-up in the APC governorship primaries.

Unveiling Bello at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja, Monday after about 3 hours of meeting, the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie Oyegun urged party leaders and stakeholders to accept the decision of the party leadership and ensure the party become victorious in Saturday’s supplementary poll.

The party also announced that Hon James Abiodun Faleke will be Bello’s running mate but the former Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area rejected the offer.

27 APC Aspirants In Race To Replace Audu

Few hours after the All Progressives Congress (APC) opted for a fresh primary to fill the vacuum created by the death of its governorship candidate in November 21 polls in Kogi State, there were indications that no fewer than 27 aspirants are warming up to grab the party’s ticket.

Electoral umpire – the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked the APC to replace its late candidate for the supplementary election scheduled for December 5.

Some of the aspirants on from the three senatorial districts are:  Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Senator Abatemi Usman, Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar (Gamji), Adinoyi Onukaba-Ojo and Sadiq Adaba (Kogi Central);  Suleiman Baba Ali, Otunba Suleiman Lanre, Dr Yakeen Abdullahi, Rotimi Obadofin, Olusola Olumoroti and Clarence Obafemi (Kogi West) and Sani Shu’aibu, Air Vice Marshal Atawodi Saliu,  Hadiza Ibrahim, Abdullahi Suleiman, Yakubu Mohammed, Senator Yahaya Ugbane, James Ocholi (SAN), Abutu Ejeh, Hussain Idris, Sunday Edibo, Dr. Tim Nda Diche, Aliyu Jiya, Alex Kadiri and Usman Mainyanga (Kogi East).

The fate of Bello and James Ocholi, who is the Minister of State for Labour & Productivity, was however unknown as at press time. It was also unclear if veteran journalist Yakubu Mohammed, rated as one of the morally upright aspirants, will be interested in the primaries.

When contacted, Abatemi said: “I am just hearing the pronouncement. We just did a quick evaluation of where we are and we have resolved that we will proceed to the field. I am contesting for the governorship ticket.”

Kogi: Behold APC Candidates Likely Contending To Replace Audu

With the coast now clear for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to use its discretion in nominating a suitable replacement for its late governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, based on the doctrine of necessity, indications emerged yesterday that the party may select its governorship candidate for the supplementary governorship election from among four choices.

By declaring yesterday that it will allow the APC to fill the vacuum created by the death of its governorship candidate in Kogi, it is obvious that INEC has heeded the call that the doctrine of necessity be adopted in the process on the grounds that the issue in Kogi is time-bound, since everything had been programmed by INEC to terminate at a specific time.

It was gathered that the party may pick from among James Ocholi (SAN), Isah Jibrin Echocho, Hon James Faleke and Alhaji Yahaya Bello as replacement for the late Audu.

Jonathan Discovered Kachikwu To Replace Diezani– PDP

National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, said on Monday that it was immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, and not President Muhammadu Buhari, who discovered the current Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

Metuh said Jonathan was preparing Kachikwu as a replacement for ex-petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who headed the ministry till last May.

Metuh made the claims in a Channels Television discussion programme, SunriseDaily, monitored in Abuja.

The PDP spokesman, who was reacting to the decision of Buhari to supervise the Petroleum Ministsery, said that the NNPC helmsman was not a new discovery by the president.

Metuh said that the party would closely monitor Buhari as the minister of petroleum and would not hesitate to expose any wrongdoing in the oil industry under the president.

Metuh said: The PDP under Jonathan discovered the incumbent group managing director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), over two years ago.

“Ibe Kachikwu was supposed to be Minister of Petroleum under PDP two years ago; he is not a new discovery.

“If the President handles the petroleum industry and does anything dishonest, we will expose him and tell Nigerians,” Metuh said.”

PDP Governors Set To Replace Mu’azu

Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party are expected to meet in Abuja on Monday.

The governors during the meeting are expected to discuss how to find a replacement for the former Chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu who resigned on May 20 on health grounds. The party’s Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus, has been acting as the National Chairman since Mu’azu’s exit.

Monday’s meeting of the PDP governors is expected to be presided over by the Chairman of the party’s governors’  forum, Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

There are indications that the governors will likely picked a candidate from the  North-East, where the position of national chairman was zoned to.

Plot to Remove Jega Thickens

Reports say that there are ongoing plans to replace the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega with a less independent-minded person.  Reports provides that the thinking in the Presidency is that Jega is too independent-minded and uncooperative despite being given the job on a platter of gold by the president’s men.

The plot is to forced Jega to comply with the civil service procedure by proceeding on his three months terminal leave with effect from March 1, this year since he is expected to retire on June 13.
