The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, yesterday, expunged some paragraphs of the petition that led to the annulment of the April 11 governorship election that brought Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to power.
In a judgment it delivered, a three-man panel of Justices of the Appeal Court headed by Justice Datti Yahaya, struck out portions of the petition alleging that security agents were used to rig the election in favour of Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The decision of the appellate court followed an interlocutory appeal that was lodged before it by the APC and its governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.
Both APC and Peterside had gone before the court to challenge the ruling of the previous chairman of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal panel, Justice Muazu Pindiga, which deleted paragraphs of the petition containing criminal allegations against unnamed security operatives.
Justice Pindiga, who was subsequently removed from presiding over the petition by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, based his decision on the fact that the petitioners failed to join the said security agents and other persons it said participated in the alleged electoral fraud as parties to the suit.
Among those that the APC alleged masterminded the rigging of election in Rivers State included wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience.

Chyna posted an Instagram photo Sunday, showing Future’s name inked on her hand. However, the photo was later removed and was not available on her page Wednesday. Meanwhile, Future posted a series of tweets explaining that he single and that he wishes to remain that way.

“Say what you want about Chyna but she’s in this relationship for the long run. At the end of the day, she knows where Future is, what he’s doing and who he’s screwing. She doesn’t think he’s a cheater at all,” the source continued, adding: “When it’s all said and done, he’s coming home to her. He’s paying her bills and as long as momma is a kept woman, the relationship with Future will be golden.”

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, has been expected today, to submit its report on the petitions against the nomination of former governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi and Ms. Aisha Abubakar from Sokoto State as ministers.
The report of the committee, which is expected to be debated on the floor of Senate chamber, is meant determine the fate of Amaechi.
However, a new order paper of the senate on Tuesday morning listed only three ministerial nominees with former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi missing.

The National Assembly has agreed to remove the controversial clauses in the amendments to the constitution under the Fourth Alteration Act, 2015, which it passed this year.
President Goodluck Jonathan had withheld his assent to the amendments to the 1999 Constitution, and the Attorney General instituted a suit against the lawmakers to annul the amendments.
The lawmakers agreed to amend the Act in an out-of-court settlement between the executive and legislative arms of government in Abuja on May 26.
Parties agreed that the views of the president be considered and effected by deleting some alterations in the Alteration Act, 2015, for which the president had withheld his assent.
The six-point of settlement in the suit between the Attorney-General of the Federation and the National Assembly, was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
According to the terms, NASS agreed to delete alterations made to Section 8 of the Principal Act on referendum in respect of state creation.
It also agreed to delete alterations made to Section 9 of the Principal Act dispensing with the assent of the president in the process of constitution amendment.
NASS also agreed to delete alterations made in Sections 45a-45b of the Act relating to Free Basic Education and Maternal Healthcare Services.
It also deleted alterations made to Sections 150, 174, 195 and 211 of the Principal Act relating to the separation of the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. This also applies to State Attorney-General and Commissioner For Justice.
Accordingly, the suit of the Attorney-General in Suit No: SC/214/ 2015 before the Supreme Court was withdrawn following a motion for discontinuance. The court accordingly struck out the case. It was also agreed that the President Goodluck Jonathan shall assent to the Fourth Alteration Act, 2015.
