Abdusalami Peace Committee In Closed-Door Meeting With President Buhari

Members of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections led by a former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar  (retd.), are currently meeting behind closed-doors with President Muhammadu Buhari inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari and former President Goodluck Jonathan signed a peace agreement ahead of the March 28 presidential election at the instance of the committee.

Those who are attending the meeting alongside Abubabakar and Buhari include the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’Ad Abubakar III; the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor; Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh; Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan; a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs. Priscilla Kuye; and Senator Ben Obi among others.

 

 

The meeting is coming a few days after Jonathan paid a secret visit to Buhari inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Dickson, Alamieyeseigha Not Sent Out Of Otuoke Meeting- PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said Bayelsa governor, Seriake Dickson and former governor of the state, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, were never sent out of PDP Fact Finding Committee meeting in Bayelsa.

This is contained in a statement signed by the PDP National Vice Chairman, South-South and Secretary, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, in Abuja on Wednesday.

It stated that the clarification was necessary following false media reports that the two politicians were sent out of the party’s peace meeting at Otuoke, Bayelsa, on Aug. 1. “I, Ojougboh on the instruction of Dr Haliru Bello, the Chairman Board of Trustee (BOT), who is also the Chairman of the committee, hereby affirm that at no time were these two great party men asked out of the meeting.

“The committee met with the governor and State Exco on one hand, the former President Dr Goodluck Jonathan and the aggrieved party members on the other hand separately,” Ojogboh said.

It stated that the committee had a very good outing which resulted in the recall of the suspended and expelled party members in Bayelsa.

“The recalled members were pleased to return to the party.”

“The party wishes to state that this misinformation is the hand work of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as they are afraid of the outcome of the reconciliation in the party.

“We, therefore, urge the PDP Bayelsa, to discountenance these mischief makers, bind and bond properly as we move to retain Bayelsa in the forthcoming gubernatorial election,” it stated.

APC Leaders, Senators Peace Meeting Ends Abruptly, Buhari Absent

A scheduled meeting between leaders of the All Progressives Congress, President Mohammadu Buhari and members of the National Assembly, elected on the party’s platform, ended abruptly on Tuesday.

This followed the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as President of the 8th Senate.

The party leaders and some elected Senators and members of the House of Representatives were at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, waiting for Buhari, when news filtered in that the Senate had been inaugurated and that Saraki had emerged unopposed.

As if this was not enough, Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party defeated Senator Ali Ndume of the APC to clinch the slot of Deputy Senate President.

The emergency but belated meeting of the APC was slated for 9am while the inauguration was scheduled to hold at 10am. However, as of 10. 56am, the APC legislators at the ICC were still waiting for the President.

The notice of meeting, which was circulated, partly read, “The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, will address all Senators and House of Representatives members-elect of the All Progressives Congress at 9am this morning Tuesday, the 9th of June, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. All concerned must endeavour to attend this meeting.”
