Trevor Noah pulls out of 2016 MTV MAMA Awards.

South African comedian Trevor Noah has announced his inability to host the 2016 MTV Africa Music Award (MAMA).

The Comedy Central host made the announcement earlier on Friday, explaining he has been suffering from a severe respiratory and ear infection.

“Due to the infection and strain on my vocal chords the doctor has ordered me to rest. I desperately wish I could dismiss the doctor but the added risk of flying means the decision would be highly irresponsible  and may cause further damage,” he said.

Trevor Noah Pulls Out of The 2016 MAMAs

Stand-up comic and host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” Trevor Noah has pulled out as host of the sixth edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) due to a severe upper respiratory and ear infection.

A day before the awards ceremony is set to take place in a 2-hour telecast at the Dome in Johannesburg MTV announced that Bonang Matheba will replace Noah as host of the MAMAs.

Noah issued the following statement:

To all my fans and everyone who makes what I do possible

I’ve been fighting a severe upper respiratory and ear infection this week and despite tons of medication the infection has gotten the better of me.

Due to the infection and strain on my vocal chords the doctor has ordered me to rest my voice and recover my health. I desperately wish I could dismiss the doctor but the added risk of flying means that decision would be highly irresponsible and may cause further damage.

I love the Mama’s and more importantly I love performing in my country. Myself and MTV Africa have been trying to make the Mamas a reality for a few years and I was so excited because this was finally the year where the pieces fell into place and the date was one I could do.

I push myself as hard as I can all the time because I appreciate every opportunity I am afforded in life. Unfortunately there comes a day like today when it all catches up and my body cannot do what my mind wishes I could.

I’m so sorry if I’ve disappointed you but please know that I love performing more than anything in life and so having to cancel any show, breaks my heart.

Sorry isn’t enough of a word to convey how I feel and again to all my fans I will do my utmost to make it up to you.

Kind Regards

Trevor Noah

The MTV Africa Music Awards will broadcast live on MTV Base and MTV on Saturday 22 October at 21:00 CAT. The show will also be transmitted worldwide on partner stations and content platforms from October onwards‚ while MTV channels around the world will broadcast a one-hour MAMA-themed MTV World Stage.

US Singer, Ne-Yo To Perform At MTV Africa Music Awards 2015

Grammy Award winning R&B icon, NE-YO, has been announced to perform at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2015. Performing songs from his sixth studio album ‘Non Fiction’ the singer-songwriter expressed his excitement about his first ever performance in the South African city, “I can’t wait for you to see what I have in store Durban! I hope you’re ready, because I am!”

Since smashing onto the top spot of the Billboard Hot 200 Chart back in 2006 with his sophomore single “So Sick”, NE-YO has spent the last nine years churning out hit after hit, not only as a performer, but as a songwriter for his megastar peers Beyoncé, Rihanna and the late Michael Jackson to name but a few.

Multiple platinum singles, four hit albums and three Grammy Awards later, the hit-maker is ready to
share his latest work with the world.

Bruce Gillmer, EVP, Music, Talent Programming and Events, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) commented: “We are thrilled to have NE-YO join us in Durban.  He’s an incredible artist who will elevate the MAMA to new highs.”

Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, “We are very excited to welcome NE-YO to MAMA 2015 for his first ever appearance in Durban.  As a sensational live perfomer and truly accomplished R&B star, NE-YO’s an all-round class act who will greatly complement the African performers on the show.”

Celebrating the evolution of African musicians by recognising contemporary artistes and trailblazers across a range of music and lifestyle categories, the MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal 2015 will broadcast live across Africa on MTV Base (DStv channel 322), MTV (DStv channel 130) and BET (DStv channel 129) on Saturday July 18, 2015 at 9:00PM.

The show will also be transmitted worldwide on partner stations and content platforms including BET International from 18 July. In addition, a special MAMA-themed edition of MTV’s acclaimed World Stage franchise will air globally on MTV channels around the world on August 27, 2015.

Burna Boy Not Happy He Wasn’t Nominated For MAMA 2015 Awards

His attitude gets to me sometimes (like when he threatens to beat up bloggers) but I think Burnaboy is one of the few raw talents we have in Nigeria and deserves to be nominated. Oh well…
Davido, Wizkid, Phyno, Yemi Alade were all nominated as Nigerians dominated 11 categories in the 2015 MAMA awards. See full list of nominees after the cut…(it was released tonight)
