Local Farmers To Make Rice Affordable By 2017

Rice farmers have assured Nigerians of their readiness to make the price of rice affordable and accessible by 2017. Mr Aminu Goronyo, the National President, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), gave the assurance in a telephone interview in Abuja on Monday.

He said the association had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with some farm input suppliers in the country to ensure prompt supply of cheap fertilisers and pesticides to boost production.

Goronyo said some individuals and corporate bodies caused the current scarcity and hike in the price of rice in order to sabotage government efforts in agricultural diversification. “We are going to assist the FG to produce more than enough rice for this country in 2017.

“It is part of the plan that we must bring down the price of rice in this country

“There are several efforts that we are making to see that in no distant time, this price of rice will come down for Nigerians to have access to affordable milled rice,’’ Goronyo assured.

The national president said that the association was also collaborating with both local and foreign companies to assist in the electronic mapping and registration of rice farms across the country.

He said this would help government to plan by having accurate and verifiable available land for rice production in the country. Goronyo gave the assurance that rice production rate would be doubled in 2017 above the seven million tonnes produced this year.

“We have more than 4.5 million hectares of FADAMA land for rice production and each hectare has the capacity with a very good practice and management to produce five tonnes per hectare minimum.

“So, in one production cycle, we can produce 10 million metric tonnes of paddy rice and our consumption rate in this country is between 6.5 and seven million metric tonnes per annum.

“So if we can produce 10 million metric tonnes in one production cycle and we have three production cycles in a year, it means that we can feed this country and even export this rice that we produce,’’ he said.

The RIFAN president said the association would continue to support the Federal Government agricultural diversification as a way of boosting the economy.

Six Politicians Who Used Their Favourite Song Lyrics To Make A Point At #UNGA

When Ghana’s President John Mahama began speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, few would have predicted the King of Pop making an appearance.

However, Mr Mahama felt Michael Jackson’s lyrics – taken from the 1991 hit Heal the World – were the perfect words to open a speech which touched on disease, the economy and increasing international tensions.

“Michael Jackson sang, ‘heal the world.. make the world a better place for you and for me… and the entire human race’,” Mr Mahama told assembled world leaders in New York.

“What happened to that enthusiasm?” he wondered.

While unusual, it transpires that Mr Mahama – who proudly told delegates he was born the same year as “one of the greatest artistes that ever lived” – is not the only politician to be inspired by the words of a musician.

Here are five others who used their favourite recording artists in order to make their points:

Among the things former UK Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron will be remembered for is his penchant for The Smiths, which he reminded us of during one of his final appearances in parliament.

“As someone about to enter the political graveyard perhaps I could misquote my favourite man and say ‘let’s meet at the cemetery gates’!” he joked – slightly different from the actual lyric, which is “So I meet you at the cemetery gates”.

It is not the first time his love of the band has made an appearance in parliament.

Back in 2010, he and Labour MP Kerry McCarthy traded song names across the floor,

The Smiths, however, have let the world know they are not a fan of his.

“I do forbid him to like it. He shouldn’t like us because we’re not his kind of people,” guitarist Johnny Marr told the Today programme in 2013, echoing similar statements made by lead singer Morrissey.

Adebayo Shittu also told journalists that MTN might be advised to withdraw a court case filed against the fine.

“If they withdraw it creates a better environment, an environment where there is no stress or pressure on either side,” Reuters quoted the minister as saying on the fine imposed on the firm last year.

Dinah Adams: How To Make Him Love You!

Truth is… there ain’t no way… If he loves you, he loves you and if him no love you, my dear him no love you!!!

Sorry honeys for that heartbreaking news flash, but reality check; Love in itself is priceless and cannot be purchased with money, Agbani like body, Ekaete cooking skills, not even by being an ace kama sutraist… if there is any word like that.

And as God made it, men are actually a kind of confused as regards to what they want, but I tell you, a guy can never be certain of anything else aside the girl that has his heart.

Let me rephrase in other words, a guy can choose to be unsure of all the things  that concern his entire life but is VERY, VERY, VERY sure of the madam of his heart.

I have seen situations where girls effortlessly strive to “win back his Love” by bringing down heaven and moving mountains #PELE#, and the guy will still sing the “I’ve moved on” song (on replay sef) to the girl.

The honest truth is this, there was no love in the first place. Maybe a mirage of love or the famous lust made him sound like Enrique Iglesias without music, or maybe badoo was just servicing his toasting skills. Point is, girls tend to take them seriously but my dear sisters, if you’ve fallen and eventually realized you’ve entered one chance, kuku respect yourself and leave him alone.

I am lazy by nature and life has taught me not to struggle for anything, which is pretty convenient for me. Words’ out ladies, if he loves you he’ll call you, save your credit; if he needs you he’ll find you and if he Loves you, then you’ll know. Simply tell yourself the truth.
