Daniel Craig Reportedly Offered $150m To Reprise James Bond’s Role In Two More Films

Who will play the tuxedo-clad secret agent in the next James Bond movie? This is one question that has been playing on the minds of fans and there have been numerous rumours suggesting various stars could step in actor Daniel Craig’s shoes. However, a latest report has claimed that the actor, who could be cast in the coveted role, is none other than Craig himself.

The news will sure surprise fans of the spy series as the 48-year-old English actor had earlier rejected the idea of reprising the role of the secret agent and said, “I would rather break this glass and slash my wrists [than do another movie].”

Craig has been seen in the role of agent 007 since 2005 and has been reportedly offered a whopping $150m 113m) to return to the thriller franchise for two more films. “The studio is desperate to secure the actor’s services while they phase in a younger long-term successor,” a source told gossip website Radar Online.

As per the report, Craig’s reluctance to reprise the role seems to have worked in his favour. Shedding further light on the scenario, the source explained, “[Craig] has played a genius hand. Everyone knows how much executives adore him, and the idea of losing him at such a crucial time in the franchise isn’t an option as far as all the studio honchos are concerned.”

“Daniel’s the key for a seamless, safe transition as far as Sony and Bond bosses are concerned, and they’re prepared to pay a king’s ransom to make it happen,” the report mentioned.

As far as the role of the spy agent is concerned, several frontrunners have surfaced in recent times with names such as Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, Adian Turner and even Tom Hughes making the rounds. While neither Sony nor Craig have officially announced anything about the role, if the report turns out to be true, the Spectre actor could be seen in two back-to-back films.

“Then they will shoot two more films, which will be made virtually back-to-back, preferably featuring Daniel as 007 before he passes the figurative baton to someone else for a third movie that will mark the start of the new era,” the source added.

Idris Elba Is 44 Today & Might Be The Next James Bond

Idris Elba turns 44 on Tuesday (6 September) and what a year he’s had. From starring in six movies released in cinemas including Star Trek Beyond, Bastille Day and Zootropolis and launching his own clothing line with clothing brand Superdry, he’s been busy. He’s even been awarded an OBE!

Aside that,Ron Howard has backed Idris Elba to be the next James Bond – and says that the British actor has the right ‘presence’ to play 007.

The Oscar winning director of A Beautiful Mind is currently working with Elba on the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.’

But Ron, who is co-producing the film, seems mightily impressed by what he has seen of the star so far.

He told Radio Times: ‘He’s got such a presence, and is so cool. I’d love to see him as Bond.’

Six Possible Choices To Play The Next James Bond

6. DAMIAN LEWIS

Lewis has the acting ability but hasn’t really done any straightforward action films since, well, unless you count The Sweeney. And we don’t. At all. At 44, Lewis is on the older side for the character. Keep in mind, however, that Craig was 38 when he signed on for Casino Royale so it’s not outside the realms of possibility here.

5. IDRIS ELBA

Idris Elba’s been linked with the role for quite a long time. At this stage, if he doesn’t get it, he never will. Just one year younger than Elba, committing to Bond is usually a five, possibly six year deal meaning that he’ll be almost 50 by the time he’d be potentially done with the role. It’s a big ask of anyone.

4. MAX IRONS

On the other end of the spectrum, you have the much younger actors. Max Irons is a strong candidate for the role. He’s got that English toff accent down to a tee, he’s athletic and he’s not hugely well-known. More often than not, Bond has always been a relative unknown. Daniel Craig’s best known film before Casino Royale was Layer Cake. Timothy Dalton had done a ton of BBC costume dramas whilst Sean Connery was in Darby O’Gill. Not only that, his dad, Jeremy Irons, would have made a brilliant mid-’80s villain against Timothy Dalton.

3. JOEL EDGERTON

If you listened to The Manual, you’ll know that we came up with this brilliant bit of casting a couple of months ago. Joel Edgerton would be fantastic in the role. He’s got that thin veil of charisma that belies something almost feral and violent – exactly what Bond was in the novels. He’s done plenty of action down through the years – Exodus, Warrior, Zero Dark Thirty – and he’s just recognisable enough to the average cinemagoer to work. In a way, he’s almost too good for the role. He’s better than Bond.

2. AIDAN TURNER

Following in the grand tradition laid down by Pierce Brosnan, Aidan Turner would make a fine Irish Bond. In fact, Turner looks somewhat similar to Sean Connery in the ’60s Bond and he’s more than capable of throwing himself into big action setpieces. Poldark, for example, has been a huge hit with audiences thanks to him being shirtless for 70% of it so that’s the whole sexuality thing sorted as well.

1. JAMES McAVOY

You thought we were going to say Michael Fassbender, right? Nope, James McAvoy’s a better shout. For one, James McAvoy is Scottish. He’s done huge action franchises (X-Men), he’s done smaller thrillers (The Last King Of Scotland) and he’s been seen on-screen in a tuxedo (Atonement). The only thing standing against him is that he’s well-known, something previous actors haven’t necessarily been. Granted, that’s no reason he wouldn’t make a perfect Bond – but would he go for it? Probably.

Which Bond Is The Baddest? This Graphic Shows How Many Kills, Women & Martini Each Version Got Through & The Answer Might Surprise You

Over the course of six decades and 24 films, Ian Fleming’s legendary character James Bond has become synonymous with drinking martinis, sleeping with women and shooting anyone who gets in his way. Now, to mark the release of Spectre, MailOnline compiled the number of kills, sexual partners and martinis drunk by each of the six Bonds to have played the famous character. Which actor is your favourite? Mine is Roger Moore…by far!

The results show George Lazenby’s 007 averaged the highest number of sexual partners. Although he only starred in one film – 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – he slept with three women.
Sean Connery averaged 2.66 sexual conquests across six films, placing him second in this category.
Coming last in both the number of kills and sexual partners, it would appear Daniel Craig’s portrayal of Bond marks a shift away from the womanizing of his predecessors.
Craig’s recent suggestion Bond is ‘sexist’, ‘misogynistic’ and ‘very lonely’ would appear to reflect his portrayal.
Across the three movies (not including Spectre) which he has played 007, he averaged just 1.33 sexual partners a film – placing him last on the list of womanizing Bonds.
But where Craig did prove to be quintessential Bond was in the number of martinis consumed
He came tied in first place with Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan as drinking one ‘shaken, not stirred’ martini in every film.
Perhaps surprisingly, Connery averaged just 0.5 martinis across the six films he starred in, while Roger Moore, who portrayed Bond seven times, could only muster a paltry 0.28.
Finally, those wondering which Bond has the most blood on their hands are left in no doubt – Pierce Brosnan’s 007 massacred 21.25 people per film.
In second place was Moore, with 7.71, followed by Connery, on 7.33. In last place was Craig, whose 007 makes an average of 2.66 kills per film.

Daniel Craig Becomes ‘Highest-Paid’ James Bond Actor Ever As He Earns $60m For ‘Spectre’ Movie

Daniel Craig is the highest-paid James Bond star ever as the Spectre action hero is said to be in line to earn around £39million for his role in 007’s latest adventure.

According to The Sun, the actor’s deal for his salary and profit share is worth more than the combined earnings of all the men to take on the role.A source close to MGM said:

Daniel’s deal means he’ll bank $24million (£15.66m) for acting, around $6million (£3.82m) for endorsements and $30million (£19.58m) if the financial projections are on course.”Even taking inflation into account he is by far the highest paid Bond actor.”

Craig’s predecessor Pierce Brosnan is said to be in second place with £24.4million across his four films, whilst George Lazenby pulled in just £34,000 for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

However, he says his deal with Bond series is done. When asked if he would film another, the actor said

Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists.
“No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

Fans are clamouring for Idris Elba to take over!

David Oyelowo, The Next James Bond?

David Oyelowo is next up to play James Bond… after snaring the role in a forthcoming audiobook.

The star of ‘Selma’, in which he played Martin Luther King Jr, was personally invited to take on the part by the estate of Ian Fleming, the creator of 007.

Though it’s a rumour that has oft baffled its subject, it appears he’s now beaten Idris Elba to the accolade.

Elba had long been rumoured as a possible replacement once Daniel Craig relinquishes the role of Bond, but had frequently denied any supposed meetings with Bond studio Eon.

“I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech,” said Oyelowo of his appointment.

“I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special.”

Speaking about the previous talk of Elba taking up the role, he said: “A titan on screen, he has all the qualities that you’d want in a James Bond. Because films and TV affect culture, a black Bond would be a cultural event. A statement… beyond just entertainment.”

Idris Elba Denies James Bond Reports: ‘It’s Just A Rumour, I Have No Idea’

Idris Elba has denied any truth behind reports that he is in line to play the first black James Bond.

The Luther star has previously joked about “being handsome enough” to take on the 007 role, but has now said the reports are entirely speculative.

When asked about being neck and neck with Damian Lewis at the bookies to replace Daniel Craig, the actor told the Radio Times: “It’s just a rumour. I have no idea.”

Pierce Brosnan and Kanye West are among the high profile names who have backed Elba for the role, with the former 007 actor saying Elba “would make a good Bond”.

The actor has been rumoured to play the British spy for a number of years, but his name resurfaced again in 2014  when a hacked Sony email revealed the company thought the actor “should be the next Bond”.

The actor responded to the leaked email in a tweet, saying he was “glad you think I’ve got a shot!”

Elba has previously said he would definitely accept the role if it was offered to him.

In a Reddit AMA in September 2014 he said he would “absolutely” accept the role if it “was offered to me” after being asked by a fan.

Daniel Craig, who is currently filming the forthcoming Bond film Spectre, is signed to do one more movie after its release. He has previously said he would like to leave the franchise afterwards.

“I’ve been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it. But they won’t let me go, and I’ve agreed to do a couple more, but let’s see how this one does, because business is business,” he told Rolling Stone two years ago.
