Solange Subjects Herself To Over 40 Hours Of Braiding & Beading For Saturday Night Live

On Saturday night, Solange Knowles gave her first televised performance of music from her latest studio album A Seat at the Table. Appearing on Saturday Night Live, the younger Knowles made quite an impression on social media for the look she chose.

Weeks before her performance, Solange uploaded a mood board of sorts to Instagram, captioning it “Hero’s.” Among the chosen women on the collage were Diana Ross, the Supremes, Nina Simone and even older sister Beyoncé.

Onstage, those touch points manifested themselves into Solange’s beaded bodysuit and elaborate oversize earrings, custom designed by Erickson Beaman. Underneath the bodysuit,  Solange donned an all-white set from La Perla lingerie. Although that look, styled by Jason Rembert, made an impression, it was something else that caught hold on social media.

In addition to the bodysuit, the “Cranes in the Sky” chanteuse wore an elaborate headdress. Social media users were quick to point out what it looked like: a dream catcher.

Instead, the piece was 40-plus hours of work. Shani Crowe not only braided Solange’s hair but also braided and beaded the elaborate piece especially for the performance. Makeup artist Dana Delaney gave the look its final polish with products from Make Up for Ever and Clinique, adding the perfect shine and glimmer to an already-goddesslike look.

Child Cancer Survivor Kills Herself Over Bullying

The relentless bullying became too much to handle for an 11-year-old girl with a “crooked” smile, her mother said.

At 3 years old, Bethany Thompson was diagnosed with a brain tumor and battled through radiation treatments. Though cancer-free since 2008, treatment caused nerve damage that changed Bethany’s smile. That, and her curly hair, led to bullying, said Bethany’s mother, Wendy Feucht.
Feucht said after a particularly tough Wednesday with bullies, Bethany told her best friend she couldn’t take it anymore, and was going to take her own life.
The Cable, Ohio, sixth grader killed herself that afternoon, October 19.
Her friend’s father called Bethany’s mom, but it was too late. Bethany found a gun kept in the house, and shot herself one time, police said.
Her stepfather was asleep in another room.
Feucht said Bethany would have had to go searching for a weapon, as she and her husband never told their children where they were and kept the guns out of sight.
“There’s a piece missing, I’ve had this constant in my life for 12 years and now it’s gone,” Feucht said. “Nothing’s going to be able to fill that hole.”
“She was my princess, that’s my baby girl. Life revolved around her for me,” said Bethany’s dad, Paul Thompson.
Champaign County Sheriff said they’re treating the death as an apparent suicide.
Her family and friends remember Bethany as generous and loving, and full of life. She loved swimming and animals and listening to music.
