Stop the Excuses

Being “busy” or “consumed with work” is an excuse to remain single. Love isn’t going to knock on your door! And even if it did (perhaps a co-worker needs more than a fact sheet?), you must find the time and energy to build a relationship and create a foundation. Finding a soulmate takes a lot of trial and error. You have to stop making excuses and just go for it.

I Find Baby Bump Irritating– Chimamanda

Award-winning writer, Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie, has said that pregnancy is a sacred state that a woman ought to be discreet about.

According to her, this is the reason she did not make it a public matter when she was expecting her child.

In a recent interview with UK’s Channel 4 News, where she spoke about racism in America and the UK, among other matters, Chimamanda said, “I wanted my pregnancy to be something I shared with the people I love, with the people who know me. There is a kind of pregnancy as a trendy thing that I find very uncomfortable with and I deeply dislike expressions like ‘baby bump’.

“I find it very irritating. It was a very deeply introspective time, thinking about (how) my life is going to change forever and the enormousness of bringing a baby into the world. It was a sacred time for me and I wanted to share it with the people I love.”

Such approach to family matters also affects the way she has been keeping her child who, she, for instance, would want to lead an ordinary but meaningful life.

“I don’t want her to think it is normal to have her picture in newspapers, because it is not. Just because your mother happens to write and sometimes have her pictures in the newspapers, doesn’t mean you get to,” Chimamanda adds.

Although Chimamanda has lived in the US where she has phenomenally flourished as a writer, she is one new-generation Nigerian novelist who has not lost a sense of home.

Facebook Helps Find Baby Lost In Nice Attack

An eight-month-old baby boy lost in the chaos after a truck rammed into a crowd in the French Riviera city of Nice killing at least 84 people was tracked down through Facebook on Friday.

Tiava Banner — who said she was not the mother of the baby — sent out an appeal on Facebook looking for any information on the whereabouts of the child who had been lost in his blue stroller when the rampaging truck sent hundreds fleeing in panic as they watched Bastille Day fireworks.

The post was shared thousands of times until it was updated with: “Found! Thank you Facebook and all those who helped us.”

A member of the family contacted by AFP on Friday said: “A young woman found him and took him home with her. She then went online and found the photo of the baby on Facebook.”

The woman then contacted the baby’s parents.

Dozens of other people appealed through social media to find missing loved ones.

“We are worried to death”, “We haven’t heard from him since he went to see the fireworks”, were some of the messages.

Many of the missing were children and teenagers.

Authorities said Friday that two children were among the dead and around 50 children were in hospital.

MH17 Investigators Find ‘Possible’ Missile Fragments

Investigators probing the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine said Tuesday they had identified pieces that “possibly” come from a Russian-made BUK missile, where the plane crashed.

International and Dutch investigators are probing “several parts, possibly originating from a BUK surface-air-missile system,” said a joint statement from prosecutors and the Dutch Safety Board (OVV).

“These parts have been secured during a previous recovery-mission in eastern Ukraine and are in possession of the criminal investigation team and the Dutch Safety Board,” it said.

Asked whether the parts were found at the crash site, Dutch public prosecutor spokesman Wim de Bruin told AFP he could not be more specific than “in eastern Ukraine”.

Flight MH17 was shot down on July 17 last year, killing all 298 people on board during heavy fighting between Kiev’s armed forces and pro-Russian separatists.
