EFCC Files 7-Count Charge Against Olisa Metuh

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says it has filed a seven count charge of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering against the National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr Olisa Metuh.

Mr Metuh, according to the charges, transferred the sum of $1 million dollars through his agent, Nneka Nicole Ararume, to one Sie iyenome of Capital Field Investment committing an offense contrary to Section One of the Money Laundering Act.

He is also accused of receiving the sum of N400 million from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, without a contract contrary to the Money Laundering Act.

Mr Metuh, is also accused of converting the said money to funds for political activities of the People’s Democratic Party. .

Listed as witnesses in the suit are five commercial banks, a representative in the Office of the National Security Adviser, three investment houses and eight individuals.

The EFCC has however not indicated when the PDP spokesman will be arraigned.

The EFCC also said it has a valid court order to detain Mr Metuh over alleged corruption related crime.

Kogi Election: Faleke Files Petition At Tribunal

The running-mate to Abubakar Audu, the late candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in November 21 governorship poll in Kogi, James Faleke, has filed a petition at the Kogi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

Mr. Faleke, accompanied by Mohammed Audu, the son of late Audu, and lawyers, submitted the petition to the clerk of the tribunal at about 12.20pm in Lokoja on Monday.

Hundreds of party members and supporters converged on the state High Court premises, venue of the tribunal, to witness the event.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Secretary of the tribunal, Akanji Akinlabi, who received the petition, said the contents were yet to become public.

Mr. Faleke is challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s decision which declared the election inconclusive.

He argues that the election had already been won and lost before the supplementary poll, saying he should be declared winner.

Mr. Faleke told journalists that he was confident justice would be done in the matter, pointing out that he did not join his party, the APC as a respondent in the suit.

CCT Trial: Saraki Files Appeal At Supreme Court

The Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has appealed the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which on October 30 affirmed the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal to try him on 13 counts of false assets declaration.

Senator Saraki also filed an application for stay of proceedings urging the Supreme Court to halt the proceedings of the Code of conduct Tribunal to try him for the alleged offences pending when his appeal would be determined.

The Senate President raised seven grounds of appeal in his notice of appeal filed on Tuesday and attached to the application for stay of proceedings.

Dr Saraki urged the Supreme Court to set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal, the entire proceedings of the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the charges preferred against him before the Tribunal.

He claimed that the Appeal Court erred in law when it affirmed the competence of the proceedings of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, which sat on the appellant’s case with only two members as against the three provided for in the provisions of Paragraph 15 (1) of the Fifth Schedule to the Nigerian Constitution.

The Senate President also faulted the majority decision of the Appeal Court where it held that there was lacuna regarding the quorum of the Tribunal.

Kashamu Files Fresh Suit In U.S. To Stop ‘Forceful Abduction’

Embattled Nigerian Senator, Buruji Kashamu, has filed a fresh suit at the United States District Court seeking an injunction ordering the U.S. to cease all efforts to abduct him from Nigeria or any other country.

In the suit dated April 9, 2015, Mr. Kashamu said if his relief is not granted, he is likely to be abducted and possibly killed or injured.

“The threatened abduction violates the treaty between the United States and Nigeria and due process under the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution,” Mr. Kashamu said through his lawyers, Robert Cohen and Scott Frankel.
