The drug extradition case against me is dead, says Kashamu.

Buruji Kashamu, the lawmaker representing Ogun east senatorial district, says the drug trafficking case involving him is dead, and no fresh extradition proceeding can be brought against him.

On Thursday, Washington Post reported that a US appeal court had upheld a ruling mandating Kashamu to face trial for allegedly being the ringleader of a heroin cartel in Chicago.

But in a statement on Thursday, Kashamu said some “mischievous elements” were seeking to twist a suit he filed to stop his “forcible abduction”.

“It is most unfortunate that some mischievous elements are seeking to twist a suit I filed in the United States of America to stop by abduction and forcibly transportation to face trial for a case two British courts had adjudicated upon and found that it was a case of mistaken identity,” the statement read.

“I asked my lawyers in the US to file the suit when I got wind of an evil plot to abduct me in 2015 which later happened between the 23rd and 28th of May, 2015, until there was a judicial intervention which ordered the US officials and their local collaborators out of my Lagos residence.

“It should be noted that there is no ANY extradition proceedings against me anywhere in the world. The last one they purportedly brought after the siege to my residence was dismissed by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on the 1st of July, 2015.

“So, the wicked interpretation that the latest ruling which was based on a suit I instituted against my abduction has set the tone for my extradition is totally unfounded, vexatious and malicious.

“No fresh extradition proceedings can be brought against me. Twice, I won the extradition proceedings against me in London where I was tried at the instance of the US government and the one they brought here has been dismissed by the court, hence the case is dead. Any other purported extradition proceedings or abduction is illegal. I am not afraid of anything because I know my rights under the law.”

Ondo guber: Blame Mimiko for Jegede’s loss – Sen. Kashamu

Senator Buruji Kashamu yesterday disclosed that the Ondo State governor Olusegun Mimiko should be blamed for the loss of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Eyitayo Jegede at last Saturday’s governorship election.

 

Sen Kashamu said the refusal of Mimiko to heed his advise against imposing Jegede who was from his (Mimiko) senatorial district caused PDP the state.

 

The Senator however upbraided the Sen Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee, over the statement credited to its national publicity secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, that sanctions would soon be meted out on Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and his group.

 

Kashamu further said the verdicts of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court over the Ondo State PDP governorship ticket does not serve as rulings or judgement on the party’s national leadership crisis.

 

Kashamu, in a statement yesterday said, “my attention has been drawn to news reports credited to the spokesman of the National Caretaker Committee of our great party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Dayo Adeyeye, that the party would impose severe sanctions on Ali Modu Sheriff and his faction for all their actions intended to undermine the party’s interest.

 

“I wish to say that I believe that Prince Adeyeye was either misquoted or misrepresented because it is totally inconceivable that anyone who has the interest of the party at heart would contemplate such at this time.

 

“No one is afraid of any sanctions so long as we know that we are fighting to protect the interest of our people.

 

“A political party is a congregation of people with a common goal yet with various interests. In every political setting, people align and realign with the bloc or group where they feel their interest is better protected and guaranteed. If your bloc or group wins, it does not mean you should seek to emasculate the other because you never can tell what would happen tomorrow.

 

“I wish to advise that no one should mistake the verdicts of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court over the Ondo State PDP governorship ticket as their pronouncements on the national leadership crisis.

“They are two separate issues that I hope we can still resolve amicably. Anyone talking of sanctioning any member of the party for fighting to protect his interest does not wish the party well.”

 

He said that the gale of sanction in Osun, Ogun and Kwara states, would further exacerbate the crisis and lead to a gale of suspension and expulsion, adding, “the truth is: such a move will further undermine the party and its leadership.

 

“Is anyone saying that if tomorrow the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court rule in favour of any of the national leaders, he should send all those in support of the other out of the party when all the 36 states are polarised along the lines of Senators Sheriff and Makarfi? No. That is not the spirit of party politics and participatory democracy.”

 

Kashamu advised Makarfi not to let Governors Olusegun Mimiko and Ayodele Fayose to mislead him any further, adding that Mimiko refusal to heed advise was what led to PDP losing the state.

 

“In a political party, like every other setting, people are bound to have disagreements and protect their interests. Senator Makarfi should not let Governors Mimiko and Fayose to mislead him any further. The mess that they have put the party is already more than enough. Both of them are at their wits end, living on past glory and in self-delusion. They have failed to manage their political successes.

 

“We told Governor Mimiko that after eight, the good people of Ondo State would resist the injustice of producing a successor from the same senatorial district where he hails from. It is not that Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) is not a good material. He is urbane, intelligent and smart. He would have probably won had he come from any other senatorial zone than Mimiko’s.

 

“We told Mimiko that the people would not take anything that would look like a third term for him and his senatorial district. He would not listen. Ever slippery and sly, Governor Mimiko turned deaf ears to wise counsel, just like he turned his back on all those who helped him to power.

 

“Despite being the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Mimiko turned himself into Fayose’s puppet, allowing Fayose to lead him by the nose,” he said.

The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party has announced the suspension of seven of its key members.

 

Affected members are Buruji Kashamu, Bayo Dayo, Pegba Otemolu, Semiu Shodipo, Fatai Adeyanju, Segun Seriki, Daisi Akitan, and Bowale Solaja.

 

Mr. Kashamu is a serving Senator. He has been fighting extradition to the United States where he is accused of drug-related offences.

 

The party said in statement signed by state chairman and secretary, Sikirulai Ogundele and Olabode Bankole, that the suspension was sequel to the report of a panel constituted in June to investigate allegations of financial improprieties and anti-party activities against the seven members.

 

The statement said the accused persons refused to honour several invitations by the panel to respond to allegations of misapplication and outright diversion of party funds.

 

“Based on the preliminary report of the panel however, submitted to the Executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ogun State Chapter, we found merit in the allegations and hereby adopt the report and findings of the Panel which include recommendation to suspend the above mentioned,” the statement said.

 

“In the exercise of the powers vested on the State Executive committee in accordance with the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party the above name are hereby suspended from the Ogun State Chapter of the PDP with immediate effect; their names have also been forwarded to the national secretariat of the party for necessary further appropriate disciplinary actions.”

Kashamu asks court to stop FG’s move to abduct him.

The Senator representing Ogun West in the Senate, Buruji Kashamu, yesterday asked the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to stop the Federal Government from forcefully abducting and transporting him to the United States of America to face drug related criminal charges.

Joined in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

Kashamu, through his counsel, Charles Ndukwe, told Justice Gabriel Kolawale that since July when the court put on hold any plan to abduct him, the defendants have been making clandestine moves to get him to the US at all cost to face trial on hard drug offences.

The counsel informed the court that unless an injunctive order was made against the defendant, the fundamental rights of his client would be jeopadised.

Justice Kolawale, however, queried the counsel on the allegation on the grounds that no evidence of forceful abduction had been placed before the court.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused an application by Senator Buruji Kashamu to stop the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police from going ahead with his arrest and extradition to the United States.
Kashamu is the Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly.

Justice Okon Abang in his ruling on Wednesday held that the application was incompetent.

He added that the security agencies deserved to be served notice to show cause before the order was granted.

Kashamu’s counsel, Godswill Mrakpor, had asked the court to grant urgent hearing to the application, insisting that there were moves to arrest and transport Kashamu to the US to face drug-related charges.

Senate Orders NDLEA To Stop Harassing Kashamu

The Senate on Wednesday ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) to stop any further harassment of Senator Buruji Kashamu over allegations bordering on drug peddling said to have been allegedly committed by the lawmaker in the United States of America.

The order by the Red Chamber of the National Assembly came on the heels of a petition written and sent to its committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition by Barrister Ajibola Oluyede, counsel to Kashamu, over alleged plans by the NDLEA to abduct the embattled senator.

Through his lawyer, Kashamu told the committee that based on information he got from some whistle blowers within the agency, while the plan to abduct him has reached advance stage, the arrangement is that he should be whisked to the United States on phantom charges of drug trafficking.

Oluyede informed the committee that the plan which is coded ‘rendition plot’, had always been used by the American government against fugitives or terrorists, non of which Kashamu can be said to be.

Specifically, Kashamu’s counsel fingered the immediate past Chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade as the person behind the plot, saying, having failed to achieve such illegal action against Kashamu when he was NDLEA boss through court pronouncements, he (Giade) was now trying to achieve it as Special Assistant on Narcotics to the Attorney- General of the Federation (AGF).

I Have No Plan To Join APC – Kashamu

The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu, has said he does not have any plans to decamp to the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying, his support for the Federal government’s anti-corruption stance is not borne out of my personal interest but the interest of the masses who are in the majority and the love for the country.

 
‘’Our people have suffered for too long because of a greedy few who amass our commonwealth for themselves and their families,” he said.

 
He also said corruption must die for Nigeria to live, adding that all Nigerians must support President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war.

 

In a statement, the senator, who said he was not supporting the war because he planned to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, added that; “Corruption by whatever colouration is bad and inimical to our growth as a nation”.
He said successive governments had made feeble and largely showmanship attempts to contain corruption with little or no results and without a sustainable plan of action.

 
He said: “Let me make it abundantly clear that I am not in any way romancing the APC. If truly politics is about the people and a contest of ideas, I cannot understand why any politician that is worth the name would see an idea that will benefit the people and not support it, irrespective of political leanings. I will support good initiatives, just as I will criticise bad ones.”

 
‘’We must realize that the elections and campaigns are over. Whether we were elected on the platform of the PDP or APC, our people trusted us with their mandate because they know that we would represent them well and fight their course. It is a sacred responsibility that we must not betray.”

Tope Adesipo: NANS; Can This Rotten Organization Be Redeemed?

The rot in NANS is huge and phenomenal. NANS has completely lost its legitimacy, reputation and mass base as actions in recent times have plunged it into. The most recent is the award it gave a wanted drug baron Buruji Kashamu .worst still, most students do not even know it exists anymore. For years now, successive leaderships of NANS have been completely anti-struggle and pro-state and sometimes attack dogs for politicians. In January 2012 during the widely-supported general strike and mass protest against fuel subsidy removal, NANS stood out shamefully on the side of Jonathan’s anti-people government. As if that was not enough, during the 2013 ASUU strike NANS again stood on the side of the government.  the struggles that have broken out over the past 10 years or more in the student movement over issues of fee hikes, victimization, welfare conditions and other education attacks, NANS has had little or no role to play. In many cases, these struggles have occurred because students on campuses organized or mobilized on their own to compel their local unions to fight.The condition of the student movement is evidently not alright. For close to 20 years the student movement has lacked a vibrant and fighting national leadership the ideological and political decay of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)is glaring to the least onlooker.the big question is  can the organization ever be revived? 
 
The organization structure is splits into zones, Joint campus committee and Local unions (SUG) there are four zones, the National president is the head and first member of the Association. respective SUG presidents,forms the legislative arm called the senate of the Nans. one rather appalling side is the fact that while one expects the president of the Senate to be chosen from amongst the SUG presidents, an outsider according to the Nans Constitution is elected as Senate president. The senate are supposed to meet regularly under normal condition but as it is today, NANS senate meetings are hardly held. The conventions, which are now held in choice hotels instead of on campus, are theaters of war with different contestants heavily funded by parties and politicians arming cultists to gain victory. my experience in Uyo in 2012, was brutal. The convention was fixed for University of Uyo, we had all gathered at the campus. waiting to be accredited, we waited for 3 days to start accreditation. no communication on the reason why. After the frustration became so unbearable, we gathered a few progressive voices to protest the treatment, poor organization before we could start the convention on the 4th day. when we did start, we were told that we can not make use of the university of Uyo premises anymore. we had to make alternative arrangements to use the Uyo township stadium.
One thing which struck me at Uyo is the age of those parading at that convention as Nans stakeholders or something. they were in their 40s. some of us who were genuine students leaders and  young were few. genuine students or activists don’t want to attend because of the violent nature of NANS meetings and conventions. there were too many gun shot flying around. you can not be chicken hearted to be in that place at that time. Ordinarily given its complete disconnection from the rank and file, NANS should have ceased to exist altogether. However it has some unique features which have sustained it till now. This is the mutual interests of the NANS leadership and the some leadership of local unions in using the platform to negotiate for payment from governments and politicians. NANS is like a huge meal ticket. This is why despite its complete disconnection, NANS can still attract attendance of local unions at its convention most of whom are always mobilized with money and with each candidate providing hotel accommodation for their supporters.
But NANS cannot just be simplified to the question of genuine young students leaders taking the leadership alone. In any case, the rot in NANS is not just the product of the successive pro-state elements who have continuously occupied its leadership for years now. The enduring rot in NANS also has something to do with the ideological retreat in the student movement over the past 20 years which is a product of many factors including, but not restricted to, consistent attacks by the school management and government against student activists and students organizations. All this has caused low level of consciousness among students, a condition which best suits and sustains the  guys running  the local unions and NANS. The level of consciousness has to always guide and define what genuine activists can do and cannot, this means not tailing as well as not going beyond what present level of consciousness can achieve or sustain. Without building a movement around those issues that immediately affect students (like issues of inadequate hostel accommodation, fee hike, bad welfare conditions etc.) and linking this with the need to reclaim NANS, any efforts no matter how sincere to win leadership of NANS will end up in futility as most students will see it as the least important of their problems. Only an effort to reclaim NANS that is backed by mass arousal and mobilization of students can win and this is impossible without building a movement first around issues of education attacks from which students consciousness can be raised to comprehend the task of reclaiming NANS or forming a new platform.


Again, an association that is not financially independent can never be truly independent of politicians. NANS have no bank account. the Treasurer and the financial secretary exist as figure heads albeit to pursue money from politicians also. no annual due like it is collected by the local unions. the association rely on monies they can get from politicians to survive. in redeeming NANS, there has to be structural changes and this is where all students and even all former students leaders must take keen interest. Nans has to be funded independently. we must change the structure. let each students in Nigeria pay a token of 100 naira to the organization’s purse.
Simply fighting electorally to hijack leadership of NANS from these elements that see nothing wrong in giving a wanted drug baron an award for Man of the year or declaring an alternative faction is not enough to begin to revive the student movement. What is needed is patient work of building an independent mass movement from below that has roots in the rank and file and that can begin to challenge attacks on education, support pro people issues while linking this with the task of changing the leadership of NANS or building an alternative platform and also structural changes..

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ogun state has sacked Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, Senator Buruji Kashamu a member of House of Representatives from Ijebu East /Ijebu North /Ogun waterside, Adekoya Adesegun and five members of the state assembly over non-compliance of electoral law.

The tribunal has therefore ordered a fresh election in the areas affected.

Activists, Social Critics Slam NANS For Naming Kashumu ‘Golden Man of the Year’

Social critics and activists have slammed the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for naming troubled Senator , Senator Buruji Kashamu representing Ogun-East senatorial district, for naming him the ‘Golden Man of the Year’.

Tijani Usman, NANS National President had presented the award to Kashamu last week for his ‘untiring, exemplary and compassionate leadership style’.

While presenting the award to Kashamu in Ogun State, Tijani said, “We decided to honour Senator Kashamu because we know that he is neither the richest businessman nor politician in Nigeria, yet we constantly hear of his philanthropic gestures to Nigerians of all shades and colours, especially the less-privileged.”

“We are fascinated at his large-heartedness even in the face of needless distractions. We reckon that if all wealthy Nigerians are like Senator Kashamu, the country will be a better place for us all. That is why we decided to encourage him by giving him this award.”

The award has however been condemned saying it will help other politicians in Kashamu’s shoes feel they are on the right track which is bad for the country. Some also said the students association has been destroyed through corruption and it is heartbreaking.

We Will Give It All It Takes To Extradite Kashamu To The US – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Friday said is continuing moves to extradite a financier of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, Mr. Buruji Kashamu, to the United States for alleged drug-related offences.

Kashamu is a senator representing Ogun-East Senatorial District at the National Assembly.

The anti-narcotics agency said it is appealing the various orders and court injunctions granted the senator, which are preventing his arrest and extradition.

The NDLEA had been at daggers drawn with Kashamu over a claim by the agency that it received a
request from the American government seeking the extradition of the PDP leader to answer drug-related charges.

The agency, in what it tagged, ‘house arrest’, had deployed its operatives in the Lekki, Lagos, residence of the politician for six days before they were withdrawn, following a court order.

A Federal High Court in Lagos had, in separate rulings, restrained the NDLEA and any other agencies in the country from unlawfully arresting and forcefully extraditing the Ijebu-born politician to the US.

Speaking to Sunday Punch on Friday, the Head of Public Affairs, NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the agency had approached the courts to vacate all orders granted Kashamu. He stated that the agency would follow all legal means to ensure that Kashamu was extradited.

Ofoyeju said, “He (Kashamu) went to court to seek several orders. We have appealed those orders. The matters have not been determined. We are in court.”

The NDLEA spokesman explained that Kashamu had built several legal walls to prevent the agency from arresting to him.

“For instance, the warrant of arrest we obtained from the court, he set it aside (through a court). Then, the suit the Attorney-General of the Federation filed; the motion for his extradition, he also went to court to set it aside. The AGF is appealing that order and we are appealing ours. The cases are already in court.”

Ofoyeju said the NDLEA was not to witch-hunt Kashamu, claiming that the agency had been requested by the American government to extradite him.

He said, “We have the formal request from the United States,’ asking for his extradition. We have that and we went to obtain a warrant of arrest which he got an order to set aside. He got so many court orders; we are now appealing those orders to enable us to follow due process.

“We cannot use the legal process to impede his extradition process. If he says he believes in the rule of law, we are going to follow it up to a logical conclusion.”

Kashamu Files Fresh Suit In U.S. To Stop ‘Forceful Abduction’

Embattled Nigerian Senator, Buruji Kashamu, has filed a fresh suit at the United States District Court seeking an injunction ordering the U.S. to cease all efforts to abduct him from Nigeria or any other country.

In the suit dated April 9, 2015, Mr. Kashamu said if his relief is not granted, he is likely to be abducted and possibly killed or injured.

“The threatened abduction violates the treaty between the United States and Nigeria and due process under the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution,” Mr. Kashamu said through his lawyers, Robert Cohen and Scott Frankel.

Nigeria Police Confirms Kashamu Was Arrested, Tried In UK

The Police, on Thursday, said the British High Commission in Nigeria confirmed that Buruji Kashamu (Senator-elect), was arrested and tried in a United Kingdom criminal court.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja. It said there was enquiry concerning the status of Kashamu’s legal battles in the United Kingdom and United States. “The police, thereafter, sought relevant clarifications from the British High Commission.
“The commission confirmed that Kashamu was indeed arrested and tried in the United Kingdom criminal court. But the court was not satisfied that Kashamu had a case to answer.’’
The statement stressed that the commission’s clarification did not derogate from extradition request by United States’ relevant departments, and agencies of government in Nigeria”, the statement said.

The statement was also issued in connection to the extradition battles of Kashamu with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

How Kashamu Saved Ex-President Obasanjo From Food Poisoning

Policemen from Zone 2 command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested two persons who allegedly posed as daughter to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and an intelligence officer respectively, to Senator Buruji Kashamu, with a plan to poison the former President.

The suspects identified as Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu, it was gathered, were arrested following a complaint by Kashamu at Zone 2, last month.

The suspects, it was gathered, met with Kashamu at a hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, on May 8, 2015,where they allegedly called the former presidents unprintable names and offered to poison him. In response to the complaint lodged by Kashamu, the command reportedly swung into action and arrested the suspects.

According to a police report obtained by our correspondent: “The fact of the case was that the complainant alleged in his verbal complaint that the duo of Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu falsely represented themselves as an intelligence officer and daughter to the former President Obasanjo respectively to him under the pretence that they were going to resolve the political rift between him and Obasanjo.

“He stressed that the duo met with him at a hotel, where the latter who had collected N500,000 from his younger brother, made some uncomplimentary and derogatory remarks about the former president, while the former introduced herself as Yetunde ObAsanjo to him. He added that he had to report to the police upon his suspicion of foul play by the suspects. “Investigation conducted revealed that the duo were impersonators.

From the foregoing, it was established that both Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu actually committed the offences alleged by the complainant and have been charged accordingly in line with the prescription of the law.

“The suspects were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo at the Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on June 5, 2015 and were remanded at Kirikiri Prisons. The matter was adjourned to July 31, 2015.” It was gathered that Kashamu’s gesture of reporting the matter to the police in spite of their political differences made Obasanjo to say he had forgiven Kashamu of any grudge he had against him.

It was gathered that the rapprochement led to Kashamu withdrawing the N20 Billion libel suit against Obasanjo.

Kashamu Withdraws Libel Suit Against Obasanjo

Senator Buruji Kashamu, has withdrawn a N20.1bn libel suit he instituted against former President Olusegun Obasanjo before a Federal Capital Territory court in Abuja.

The presiding judge, Justice Valentine Ashi, struck out the suit on May 26, 2015, following the notice of discontinuance of the suit filed by the plaintiff.

Kashamu had on February 6, 2014, sued Obasanjo for “maliciously and recklessly” publishing a letter titled, ‘Before it is too late,’ addressed to former President Goodluck Jonathan in December 2013.

He had asked the court to award him N20bn as aggravated and exemplary damages, and another N100m against Obasanjo for maliciously portraying him as a fugitive wanted for drug- related offences in the United States of America.

Kashamu Hid In Toilet For 6 Days During NDLEA Raid- Lawyer

A Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, wanted by the United States government for alleged drug offences, hid in his apartment’s toilet in Lagos for six days as Nigerian anti-narcotic agents raided his home and placed him under house arrest two weeks ago, his lawyer said Thursday.

The lawyer, Ajibola Oluyede, told a federal court in Lagos that Mr. Kashamu remained in hiding while 20 masked operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency took over his bedroom.

Mr. Oluyede said despite an earlier ruling of the court that the NDLEA lift its siege on Mr. Kashamu’s home, the agency only withdrew its personnel after he was compelled to sign an undertaking.

‘’The only reason they left was because I signed an undertaking,” Mr. Oluyede said. “My client was in a toilet for six days with 20 masked armed men in his bedroom. So, I signed the undertaking before they left. They should not claim to have obeyed the order of the court.”

Mr. Kashamu’s lawyer urged the court to nullify any warrant of arrest that might have been obtained by the NDLEA from any source in an attempt to extradite his client.

The judge, Ibrahim Bubba, ?ordered the Attorney General of Nigeria, the NDLEA not to take any further action to extradite Mr. Kashamu to the United States, until the proceedings before him are determined.

Repeating his earlier orders, Justice Buba said ‘’at the expense of being repetitive, the defendants who are alleged contemnor are once again ordered not to do anything that will undermine the suit before the court. It is the duty of all parties to obey the order of court’’.

‘’Therefore, counsel should note that the motion to set aside the orders of court and the main application has not been argued. So the court has to adjourn this matter in order for parties to be served appropriately so that justice can be done,” he stated.

He said the judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction subsists until they are set aside.

He said whether the orders were made rightly or wrongly, parties are bound by that order of the court no matter how perverse the order may seem to be.

Justice Buba therefore adjourned the suit to June 19 for hearing of contempt proceedings against the former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, and the NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade.

Kashamu Says NDLEA Lied About Notice Of Extradition To U.S

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, yesterday said it had   served a notice on  Senator-elect of Ogun East, Prince Buruji Kashamu for his extradition to the United States of America.

However, in a swift reaction, Kashamu denied being served any extradition letter, describing NDLEA’s claim as false. He explained that  a copy of the process was dropped in his counsel’s   Lagos office Monday, assuring that it would be dealt  with in accordance with the law.

The NDLEA, in a statement by its Head, Public Affairs, Mitchell Ofoyeju and made available to newsmen disclosed   that the office of the Attorney General of the Federation has made a fresh application to the chief judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking Kashamu’s extradition to the US to answer charges on alleged drug trafficking.

He said the agency served the notice of the suit officially   on Kashamu on  June 1, 2015.

Ofoyeju noted that the application made to the Federal High Court Chief Judge by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation for Kashamu’s extradition to the US was in accordance with the Extradition Act CAP, E25 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 (as modified by Extradition Act Modification Order, 2014).

According to the NDLEA statement, “In an application made to the Chief Judge, Federal High Court, Abuja in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/479/2015, the office of the Attorney General of the Federation is seeking the extradition of Buruji Kashamu to answer alleged drug trafficking charges.

“This is in line with the Extradition Act CAP, E25 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 (as modified by Extradition Act Modification Order, 2014). The notice of the suit was officially served on Kashamu by the NDLEA on 1st of June 2015.”

NDLEA Formally Serves Kashamu Extradition Notice

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has formally served the Senator-elect for Ogun East Senatorial district, Buruji Kashamu, a notice by the United States government, demanding his extradition for drug-trafficking offences.

The service was said to have been made on June 1 in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/479/2015 with a copy made available to the Chief Judge, Federal High Court.

The agency has been at loggerheads with the Ijebu-born politician over an attempt to facilitate his extradition to the US.

Tens of NDLEA officials had laid a six-day siege to the Lagos residence of the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Lekki, Lagos, before they vacated on May 28, two days after a Federal High Court in the state mandated them to do same.

The agency, in a statement, had described the court order, passed by Justice Ibrahim Buba, as “inconsequential and diversionary,” insisting that it was only “performing its statutory responsibilities.”

?On Wednesday, May 27, Justice Okon Abang of a Federal High Court had passed another ruling prohibiting security agencies in Nigeria from “unlawful” arrest and forceful extradition of Kashamu. ?The court equally awarded N10,000 as cost against the Chairman of the agency, Ahmadu Giade, for failing to appear in court.

Kashamu had instituted the fundamental rights enforcement action in April alleging that there was a plot by his political opponents, led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to use Nigerian security agencies to abduct and forcibly transport him to the US to stand trial before Judge Norgle.

He had prayed to the court that the move amounted to a violation of his rights to personal liberty, freedom of association and freedom of movement.

NDLEA Finally Vacates Kashamu’s Residence

After forcing Ogun Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu to stay indoors since Saturday, 23rd of May, the NDLEA officials have finally vacated his Lekki home and its surroundings yesterday evening. According to the Director of Kashamu’s campaign organisation, Mr. Lekan Adekoya, they left around 7:45pm last night. Hopefully Kashamu will be sworn-in today as a Senator in Nigeria, but that is if, NDLEA men do not storm the venue. But at least for now, they have left his home.

Court Restrains NDLEA, Security Agencies From Arresting Kashamu

Reprieve has come the way of the embattled Senator-elect, Prince Kashamu Buruji, as a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, Wednesday morning, restrained security agencies in Nigeria from arresting and transporting him to the United States to stand trial on drug-trafficking offences.

Delivering judgment on the matter, Justice Okon Abang, declared that it was illegal to arrest and extradite Kashamu in relation to drug-trafficking allegations from which he had been exonerated by two British courts.

The judge granted Kashamu’s prayer that since he had obtained a judgment in Nigeria in January 2014 barring his arrest and extradition and the judgment having not been set aside, he could not be arrested and extradited.

The judge also awarded a cost in the sum of N20,000 against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Attorney General of the Federation, the National Security Adviser to the President, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Court Orders NDLEA Operatives To Vacate Kashamu’s Residence

Temporary reprieve came the way of embattled Ogun State senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, as a Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday ordered operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to vacate his Lagos residence.

Justice Ibrahim Buba, who gave the order while ruling on a committal application filed by Kashamu’s lawyer, Ajibola Oluyede, also directed the men of the Nigeria Police to ensure that NDLEA operatives vacate Kashamu’s residence immediately “without a free-for-all.”

The NDLEA had, on Saturday, placed Kashamu on house arrest pending his scheduled appearance in court on Monday.

But contrary to expectation, the NDLEA could not produce Kashamu in court on Monday as the PDP chieftain reportedly refused to yield to attempts to take him to court.

The PDP chieftain, according to the Agency, had insisted that the NDLEA must produce a warrant of arrest in line with the extradition treaty before he can be taken to court.

Also on Monday, Kashamu filed a contempt proceedings against the attorney general of the federation and the chairman of the NDLEA before Justice Buba, alleging that they disobeyed an order of another judge of the court, Justice Okon Abang, directing all parties before him to maintain status quo pending the final determination of the suit.

Fresh Trouble For Kashamu Over Land Dealings

The embattled senator-elect of Ogun East Senatorial District, Prince Buruji Kashamu is enmeshed in another mess as he has been accused of forging documents for a landed property worth billions of naira in Ajah area of Lagos state, Southwest, Nigeria.

Kashamu, who is also fighting extradition to the United States over drug related issues, has been challenged by the family of Late Chief Ambali Bakare for fraudulently converting about 300 acres land in the Ogombo area of the state.

The family, led by Shafiudeen Bakare, stormed Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Iwe Irohin, Press Centre, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta and disclosed that the family had all documents and will drag the senator-elect to court on the issue.

According to him, “we are here to speak to the world on the fraudulent purchase of our land at Ajah by Buruji Kashamu under the business name of Bukas Kasmal International Ltd. We have been deprived of this land, and we have come to raise alarm.

“When some of those who purchased the land took him to court, the court ruled that we, the original owners should be in court and not a third party. So, we have been making arrangements to revisit the case by heading for the courts to get justice,” the family spokesperson disclosed.

Bakare, who was accompanied by Prince Tajudeen Bakare said a proof of evidence, copy which was given to newsmen indicated that Buruji’s company and others had fraudulently acquired a section of the property sometimes in 2008.

“Some of those whose section of the land was encroached took the matter up, but, unfortunately at the court, it was ruled that the plaintiffs could not take the defendant to court, hence, three years after, we are set to revisit the matter,” Bakare posited.

When our corespondent enquired about why it took the family so long to reclaim their landed property, Bakare declared that, “we remained silence because we strongly believed that genuine democracy is about to begin and we just believe that it is God’s time to fight for us,” he said.

Court Orders NDLEA Out Of Kashamu’s House

Justice Ibrahim Bubba of a Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, out of the home of fugitive senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu.

Mr. Kashamu had been under house arrest since Saturday morning when anti-narcotic agents secured his property.

The NDLEA had said Mr. Kashamu was detained to ensure he appears in court to face extradition proceedings on Monday.

The lawmaker-elect is wanted by United States authorities for alleged drug related offences.

Despite the house arrest, the NDLEA failed to take Mr. Kashamu to court on Monday.

The matter has subsequently been adjourned till? 4th of June.

NDLEA Boss Explains How They Got Kashamu, Nicknamed ‘god’

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ahmadu Giade, Sunday explained how the agency was able to get alleged drug trafficker, now Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, under house arrest in Lagos.

Officials of the agency had on Saturday stormed the Lekki home of Kashamu, who was allegedly nick-named “God” in the US, and got him restrained therein.

THISDAY gathered that to place Kashamu on house arrest, the agency had disarmed Kashamu’s personal guards manning his gates.

The statement went on to state that as at the time of his arrest, the agency allowed Kashamu’s legal attorneys – Daniel Onamusi and Barrister Oloyede – and close family members, including his wife
and adult daughters, to speak with him and attest to his well-being.

The agency said the house arrest was preparatory to his being extradited to the United States of America, where he would be tried for drug trafficking-related offences.

Giade made these disclosures in a statement issued by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Mitchel Ofoyeju.

The NDLEA boss said Kashamu has been a target of both the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for over 20 years.

He said the house arrest is sequel to a formal request for extradition which the agency received from the Embassy of the United States of America pending his arraignment before the Federal High Court on Monday, May 25, 2015.

He said the senator-elect was indicted in the Northern District of Illinois, United States on charges brought against him by ICE.

The statement reads in part, “Kashamu, who U.S. court documents alleged was known in his days as the leader of a prolific heroin trafficking ring based in Chicago, Illinois as “God,” “Daddy,” and “Kasmal,” is wanted to stand trial for charges of conspiracy and importation of controlled substances, namely heroin, into the United States dating back to 1994.

“Kashamu, who holds dual Nigerian/Beninese citizenship, has taken multiple preemptive actions to thwart U.S. extradition efforts such as making fanciful claims that his is a case of mistaken identity, and that his deceased brother is responsible for the crimes he is being sought after in the United States.

NDLEA Should Stop Harassing Buruji Kashamu – Usman

The national coordinator of Believe Nigeria Initiative (BNI), Mr Idris Usman has asked the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to stop harassing Ogun senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu over allegation of drug trafficking forthwith.
According to Usman, the move by the NDLEA to extradite Buruji Kashamu to the United States of America to face trial over charges bordering on drug trafficking is a clear violation of the senator-elect’s fundamental human rights, especially as the matter is before a competent court of jurisdiction.
Usman further noted that the planned arrest and extradition of Kahamu to the US were politically motivated, wondering why the NDLEA had not sought his arrest before now.
“I smell a rat in the manner the NDLEA is going about the case of Buruji Kashamu. Why now? If the NDLEA had such powers as it now claims, why did they wait until now that Kashamu has been elected the National Assembly. I believe the whole scenario has a political undertone.
“For God’s sake, the matter is in court! And any attempt by the NDLEA or any individual to arrest Kashamu will be a clear violation of court rules which will amount to contempt of court. I challenge them to produce his warrant of arrest, if they have any, ” Usman said.

In another development, the BNI national coordinator has called on the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to extend his anti-corruption searchlight to career public servants whom, he said, were more corrupt than the politicians in most cases.

Bode George Denies Involvement With Buruji Kashamu’ s Arrest

Chief Bode George has described as a huge joke, the allegation that he was involved with the US inspired attempt to get Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu extradited to the United States.

George now in London, gave the denial in a telephone interview with Punch. George’s wife, Roli is the Executive Secretary of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The PDP leader said he did not have the power to give his wife orders because she was not the chairman of the NDLEA and the agency adheres to due process.

“Kashamu is like a younger brother to me and he is not known to speak in such a manner. I am sure it is his media adviser that concocted this falsehood.”

Federal attorney general, Mohammed Adobe said NDLEA was acting on a request for Kashamu, who has a 21 year old drug charges in Chicago, Illinois, to answer.

I Would Rather Die Than Be Extradited To The US – Kashamu

Senator-elect, Ogun-East, Prince Buruji Kashamu, was said to have threatened to kill himself if officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) forced their way into his house, yesterday, claiming there was a court injunction against the NDLEA’s action.

Some of his friends who claimed to have contacted him on phone between 7 and 9 am told Sunday Vanguard that Kashamu said he would remain indoors till Monday.

But the narcotic agency explained that the operatives mandate was to put the politician, who is also the Chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the PDP in the South-West, under house arrest pending when he would appear in court on Monday.

According to Punch, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN), said on Saturday that the house arrest which the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency placed on the Ogun-East Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, was informed by a recent extradition request by the United States of America.
Adoke told one of our correspondents on the telephone on Saturday that the request came last week.

He said immediately his office received the request it was passed to the appropriate organ of government for implementation.
Responding to further inquiry, he confirmed that he was referring to the NDLEA as the appropriate organ of government to take up the extradition request.
“Of course, it is a drug-related offence and the appropriate government agency that handles such cases is the NDLEA,” Adoke said.
The NDLEA confirmed the confinement of the movement of Kashamu to his Lagos residence on Oladipo Street, Lekki Phase 1 pending his appearance in court on Monday (tomorrow).
No fewer than 10 operatives of the agency were said to have invaded the Lagos residence of Kashamu, around 5am on Saturday to effect his arrest following a purported extradition request from the United States on drug- related charges.
They were said to be heavily armed and were ruthless.
As soon as they stormed his residence, SUNDAY PUNCH gathered that some of the NDLEA operatives brought out a yellow tape and cordoned off the area, while others went straight to the gate.
After they (operatives) reportedly knocked on Kashamu’s gate, his security men were alerted about their mission.
Kashamu’s security men at this point demanded the arrest warrant from the NDLEA men but they could not produce any.Based on this, they were prevented from entering the residence.
However, this action was said to have infuriated the NDLEA officials who stormed the compound after destroying the gate.
The media aide to Kashamu, Austin Oniyokor, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Saturday, explained that the NDLEA operatives after they had forcibly entered the compound, headed for the living rooms and began to destroy all the doors one after other, in a desperate move to arrest Kashamu.
An NDLEA source said they (operatives) closed in on the bedroom of the PDP chief who was said to have threatened to commit suicide if the agency tried to extradite him to the US forcibly.
Oniyokor described the latest onslaught on his principal as a confirmation of the alleged plot to illegally abduct him despite the pending suit against his abduction.
Oniyokor, however, accused a Peoples Democratic Party leader, Chief Bode George, as being behind the onslaught against his boss, “in a bid to score cheap political points.”
He said he is doing this through his wife who is the Director-General of the agency.

US behind Kashamu’s House Arrest — FG

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN), said on Saturday that the house arrest which the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency placed on the Ogun-East Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, was informed by a recent extradition request by the United States of America.
Adoke told one of our correspondents on the telephone on Saturday that the request came last week.
On May 6, the minister had disclosed to one of our correspondents that there was no extradition request for Buruji by the US.
Adoke said this while responding to a suit filed by Kashamu to restrain the NDLEA and 13 others from extraditing him to the US.
“The request came shortly after I spoke with you. It came last week,” he said.
He said immediately his office received the request it was passed to the appropriate organ of government for implementation.
The implementation process involves filing an extradition request before the appropriate division of

the Federal High Court.

Responding to further inquiry, he confirmed that he was referring to the NDLEA as the appropriate organ of government to take up the extradition request.
“Of course, it is a drug-related offence and the appropriate government agency that handles such cases is the NDLEA,” Adoke said.
The NDLEA confirmed the confinement of the movement of Kashamu to his Lagos residence on Oladipo Street, Lekki Phase 1 pending his appearance in court on Monday (tomorrow).
The spokesperson for the NDLEA, Michael Ofoyeju, said the action was to perfect his extradition to the US for drug-related charges.

Kashamu Is As Sinless As A Baby, Says PDP Chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, in Ogun State, believes that Prince Buruji Kashamu has done nothing wrong to warrant being shipped to the United States of America to face drug-related offences.

Chief Toyin Umar says that the Senator-elect has no sin to warrant such a treatment, adding that the move was an attempt to witch-hunt the financier of the PDP in the South West.

In a statement personally signed by Umar, he said that Kashamu had got a judgment from the United Kingdom over the drugs case which exonerated him long time ago.

Umar stated that the people ochestrating the extradition plot were doing so in order to run him down for political reasons. “The attempt has political undertone. Buruji Kashamu has no case with the USA, its just that some people are trying to run him down.

“If truly the Senator-Elect has a case to answer in the United States of America, the authorities know the right thing to do, and not that, some people would be flying a kite for his extradition.

“I urge the brains behind the move to stop witch-hunting him. This same case was mentioned in the UK some years back, it ended up in favour of the senator-elect.”

Extradition: Kashamu Sues IGP, NDLEA, 10 Others

Prempting his likely extradition to the United States for alleged drug offences, Senator-elect, Prince Buruji Kashamu, has dragged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and 11 others before a Federal High Court in Lagos to forestall such move.

In an Originating Summons brought before Justice Okon Abang, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain alleged that there was a conspiracy between the law enforcement agencies of Nigeria and the U.S to humiliate as well as prevent him from being sworn-in as Senator.

Joined as defendants with the IGP in the fundamental rights suit marked FHC/L/CS/508/15, are Chairman, Nigerian Drug Laws Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA); Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC); Director General, Department of State Security, (DSS); The Interpol National Central Bureau, (NCB); and Attorney-General of the Federation, (AGF).

Others are – the Clerk of the National Assembly; the National Security Adviser to the President; Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC); Nigeria Custom Services (NCS); Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Kashamu is seeking nine declarative orders from the court to restrain the defendants from arresting, detaining or otherwise effecting his abduction upon spurious allegation, that defendants’ actions are illegal, unlawful, ultra vires and a breach on his rights.

He also wants the court to direct the clerk of the National Assembly to accord all facilities and privileges due him as Senator-elect.

When the matter was called for hearing on Monday, counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, who said he was yet to see the court processes, prayed for an adjournment to enable him find out which of the agency’s offices was served.

He told the court that the commission was yet to reply to the suit because he hasn’t laid hands on the processes.

Apologising for stalling the proceeding, Oyedepo noted that it would be in the interest of justice if EFCC was given a short adjournment to reply to the suit.

But lawyer to the applicant, Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN), urged the court to discountenance EFCC’s application for an adjournment, on grounds that the matter should be determined expeditiously.

He argued that there was no material fact before the court to exercise its discretion, adding that since EFCC had conceded that they were served and failed to respond after 12 days stipulated by Order 8 Rule 3 of the court, there was no room for extension.

Aside the EFCC, the NIS also pleaded for a short adjournment to enable its lawyer reply the applicant’s brief.

He told the court that the NIS has not been able to respond to the application as a result of the ill health of its counsel.

The controversial Peoples Democratic Party Senator-elect in Ogun State, Buruji Kashamu, on Wednesday, said he is not evading trial for drug related offences in the United States of America. Mr. Kashamu, an American fugitive, said the American authorities only needed to follow due process and not abuse his human rights if a trial were to hold.

The senator- elect insisted that a court in the United Kingdom had cleared him of the drug charges. “On the U.S case, I wish to state for the umpteenth time that the United States as the bastion of democracy and the Rule of Law would not lend itself to any form of abuse of the fundamental human rights of an innocent soul, especially one that has been arrested, tried and freed by its most trusted ally – the United Kingdom.

“I am not running from any trial. All I have asked is for the relevant parties to follow due process – if they believe that I yet have a case to answer. I stand with the almighty Allah Subhana Wa Tala. He is the protector of all men. He is my refuge and shield. Let no one play God!’

“I believe in the supremacy of the almighty Allah who frustrates the signs of liars and makes fools of diviners, who turns wise men back and makes their knowledge foolish. He is the ultimate decider of the fate of all mortals. When He says yes, no man can say no and when He says no, no man can say yes!,” Mr. Kashamu said.

enator-elect, Buruji Kashamu has reacted to Bola Tinubu’s dressing down over a statement released a few days ago where he praised the achievements of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress over his role in the recently-concluded general elections.

In response to Kashamu’s adulation, Tinubu said he does not need praise-singing from someone who bought his election victory and his wanted in the United States for drug related offences.

An unhappy Kashamu released a statement to Tinubu’s response on Tuesday, April 21.

“My attention has been drawn to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reaction to the innocuous congratulatory messages that I sent to him and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“First, I must say that I doubt if the statement was approved by him. However, if it was, I must state that I am taken aback by the unwarranted attacks against me as if we were still campaigning. It is unbecoming of someone of his stature and calibre. It is high time politicians and leaders rose above petty issues and raise the bar in constitutional democracy. We should not just be democrats in words but also in deeds. We should play politics without bitterness.”

“It is on record that no Nigerian politician has taken former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the cleaners even as a sitting President like Asiwaju Tinubu did. Yet, Chief Obasanjo forgave him. As for me and Baba Obasanjo, he remains my father and leader, just as I am his son and follower. At no time did I abuse Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.”

“As a true party man, I campaigned vigorously for my party and its candidates. Now, the elections are over, and as a true sportsman, I thought I should congratulate those who won. Short of any praise-singing, what I said in the congratulatory message that they chose to react to a week after it was published was that there was no way anyone can wish away the achievements of Asiwaju Tinubu in the nation’s political annals, particularly in Yoruba land.”

Part of the message also reads: “Although I now belong to the opposition, your achievements transcend political divides and I am not ashamed to publicly acknowledge them. I salute your courage, commitment, doggedness, forthrightness and tenacity of purpose even in the face of daunting opposition and challenges. By your sheer wit and unwavering commitment to democratic ethos, true federalism and economic prosperity, you led the Alliance for Democracy (AD) from a one-party state to a regional party, and now a national party that is about to form the government at the centre.”

Consequently, he asked; “How do these translate to praise-singing? Are they not facts of history that I merely adumbrated? He accused me of purchasing my election with money, the appropriate forum to prove that is the election petitions tribunal and not the pages of newspaper.”

Tinubu to Kashamu: I Do Not Need Your Praise-Singing

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rebuffed his praise-singing by Mr. Buruji Kashamu, the senator-elect in Ogun state, wanted in the United States for drug offences.

Buruji in a press statement described Tinubu as his role model and spoke glowingly of him.

But in a response today, issued by Sunday Dare, his media adviser, Tinubu asked Kashamu to “stop this cynical fawning. It will not work.”

Here is the press statement by Tinubu as issued by his press office:

“The days of false adulation are gone in Nigerian politics. Fake praise singers like kashamu will find that their particular craft is no longer in vogue. During this election cycle, their practice has dramatically turned from the way things are to how things used to be.

“Henceforth, there will be consequences for the positions a politician takes and the words they utter.

“Politicians will no longer be able to change direction and loyalties as if they were changing clothes. Those in politics must know that responsibility and accountability shall now follow them. One can no longer walk both sides of the street at the same time. In case Kashamu has not noticed, the politics of principle defeated the politics of posturing.

“That Kashumu undermined the democratic process by buying his victory does not mean he is part of the new Nigeria. He is merely an isolated vestige of a dying past. The man is an extinct species the realization of which will soon dawn on him.

“For him to liken himself to Bola Tinubu is for a small rut to call itself a mountain. For Kashamu to call Tinubu a role model is kashamu ‘s admission that he does not know the meaning of the term. There are no grounds for comparison. There is only contrast. Tinubu has sacrificed years trying to bring democracy to Nigeria. He struggled in opposition to the powers that be. Without this, at times, lonesome fight and singular determination, the great change in Nigerian politics would not have happened as it did. TInubu is an architect of democracy. Kashamu is a failed demolisher of that which Tinubu has strived to build. Under Kashamu’s designs, our elections would be a wholly mercantile undertaking.

“Meanwhile, Kashamu has blown wherever the prevailing winds took him. He stood for nothing and sacrificed nothing except the people’s welfare.

“This same Kashamu rained insults on former President Obasanjo in a vicious campaign of calumny. Kashamu’s party, PDP sponsored defamatory documentaries full of lies and innuendos against me, General Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of APC. Please keep your peace until you make your trip to the USA as a Senator elect. Upon your return we can then have a conversation. We can then proceed with your repudiation of the PDP with a promise that you will stop corrupting and fouling the political system.

“That Kashamu would deign to compare himself with Tinubu is a distasteful insult to Tinubu and to anyone who knows Nigerian politics. If he has any sense of propriety, Kashamu should retract the corrupt missive and apologize for this latest lie to the public.

“Kashamu is a factory of incoherent mischief aimed at achieving selfish goals. Before the election, Tinubu was his arch-enemy. Now he seeks to be the prodigal son returned home. This scam will fail.

“Kashamu may be prodigal but he is no political son of Tinubu. Kashamu’s political lineage tracks to people like Bode George and President Jonathan. He should direct his encomiums to these men who are his true role models. They need his contrived affections more than Tinubu does.”
