Dr. Dre Dethroned As Richest Hip Hop Cash King, Goes Down To No. 4

Forbes annual Hip-Hop Cash Kings roundup is here, and there are quite a few surprises.

Last year, Dr. Dre made the most money in hip-hop after Apple purchased his company, Beats Electronics, for $3 billion. A year later, Dre has slid into fourth place behind Diddy, Jay Z, and Drake.

According to Forbes, after coming off the big $620 million personal payday from Apple, Dre’s checks have shrunk a bit, essentially reducing his cash flow. Dre is still massively rich, regardless.

Aside from his newfound wealth via Apple, Dre executive produced the N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” (which has netted about $160 million in the US to date) and released an album that coincided with the film. Those numbers, however, weren’t factored into the current rankings.

With Dre’s fall, Diddy moved right into the first spot, even though he rarely ever performs or makes music anymore. He’s all about business, and it’s paying off.

Jay Z — to the surprise of no one — moved up a spot as well, to No. 2. The rap mogul simply knows how to make money. Leading the charge for Jay is his Roc Nation music label. Roc Nation also has a sports division that contributes to Jay Z’s earnings. Though Jay Z’s newest business — the music streaming service, Tidal — has been hammered by rumors of an imminent demise, it has remained afloat thus far.

The biggest surprise perhaps was rapper Drake coming in at No. 3 — the highest ranking he’s achieved in his young career. Drake was fourth last year, but after selling over a million copies of his “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” album released in February, the “Trophies” rapper moved into the upper echelon.

Police Officer Claims He Was Paid $1.5m To Fake 2Pac’s Death

A retired police officer has revealed some shocking details ,claiming 2pac is still alive.

David Myers, who is in a critical medical condition in hospital, claims he was paid $1.5 million to help the star fake his own death.
Tupac Shakur, or 2Pac as he was known on stage, after he was hit in a drive-by shooting back in 1996 when he was just 25.
DailyMirror reports  Myers says he now wants the world to know the truth and from his death bed – he said:

“The world needs to know what I did. I’m ashamed that I let a price be put on my word and I cannot die without letting the world know.”

He claims Suge Knight, who is currently in jail awaiting trial for murder, played a big part in helping it happen.

Over 30 people were reportedly paid to help fake his death – including police, medics and various witnesses. Myers even claims 2Pac paid $50,000 for a body double to be taken to the morgue. It is not the first time there have been theories that he may not have died.
However, the mystery deepens as it later emerged one of the original websites to report Myers’ extraordinary tale is using a fake image to represent the police officer on his deathbed, plunging the conspiracy theory into disrepute.

Dr. Dre’s New Album Streamed 25 Million Times On Apple Music In Its First Week

Compton, the new album from hip-hop mogul and Apple employee Dr. Dre, was streamed 25 million times in its first week on Apple Music. In addition to the streams, Apple says the album also sold half a million downloads through iTunes — a solid performance that was not quite enough to push it to number one in the US charts. Apple executives reported the figures in a statement to The New York Times, but the publication did not specify whether the figure was made up from complete listens to the whole album, or includes people who listened to individual songs.

The album, which came at the same time as, and loosely ties into NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, was an all-Apple affair. Dre announced the album on his own Beats 1 radio show, The Pharmacy, and it premiered a day early on Apple’s streaming service, before full release on iTunes on July 7th. For now at least, it remains an Apple exclusive, only available for stream on Apple Music and digitally through iTunes. Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine was positive about the results, saying that it constituted a good start for Apple Music. “We’re beginning to show what we can do in terms of communicating music to a worldwide audience and helping artists at the same time,” he told The New York Times.

Dr Dre Owns Up To Beating Women In The Past

Dr Dre’s baby mama singer Michel’le has been very open about the physical abuse she suffered from Dr Dre for years and it is widely known that the multi-millionaire music mogul and businessman beat the crap out of journalist Dee Barnes for an interview she did with Ice Cube after he left N.W.A.

On the eve of biopic Straight Outta Compton opening night, Dr. Dre opened up about his vicious attack on the two women. Below is what he told Rolling Stone Magazine:

“I made some f**king horrible mistakes in my life. I was young, f**king stupid. I would say all the allegations aren’t true – some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really f**ked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and
there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.”

Dr Dre To Donate All Money From New Album To Charity In Compton

Hip Hop mogul and music producer Dr. Dre has announced that he will be donating all of the proceeds from his new album to a Compton charity.

The album, which was the 50 year old’s first in 16 years, was released on August 7th .  Dre used his partnership with Apple Music and Beats 1 to announce details about his work prior to its release, and “Compton: A Soundtrack” was premiered exclusively on Beats 1 Radio.

“Compton” is Dre’s third studio work and will be the official soundtrack for the upcoming movie, “Straight Outta Compton” – a biopic about the famous gangsta’ rap group N.W.A. Featured in the 16-tracked LP are big names such as Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Jill Scott, Eminem, The Game, Ice Cube and Xzibit.

Talking on Beats 1 radio with DJ Zane Lowe, Dre broke the news that all his artist royalties for the work on the album would be donated to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment center in Compton.

“I feel it’s the right thing to do,” Dre said. “And I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album.”

Dre will be hands-on with overseeing the project along with Compton mayor Aja Brown.

Dre explained, “I reached out to the Compton mayor’s office, got in touch with the mayor, Aja Brown, and I’ve decided to donate all of my artist royalties from the sale of this album to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility for the kids in Compton.  I’ve been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn’t quite figure out what it was. [Brown] actually had this idea, and she was already in the process of working on it.”

Earlier, Dre had said that his album was inspired by the movie itself. “During principal photography, I felt myself going to the studio and being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album.”

“Straight Outta Compton” is expected to be released on August 14th.

Dr. Dre ‘Beats’ Jay Z as hip-hop’s top earner with $620M: Forbes

Dr. Dre has been racking up plenty of other financial accomplishments. His latest: capturing this year’s hip-hop cash crown with pretax earnings of $620 million. Not only is that the highest annual total of any entertainer ever evaluated by FORBES, it’s more than the combined earnings of all 24 of his companions on the 2014 Hip-Hop Cash Kings list.

Earlier this year Apple AAPL +1.56% shelled out $3 billion to purchase Beats, the company founded by Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. Though the latter quickly claimed to be hip-hop’s first billionaire, a nine-figure tax bill means that won’t happen immediately—but he’s well on his way.
