8 Year Old Girl Diagnosed With Rare Form Of Breast Cancer

Chrissy Turner has a rare form of breast cancer, and she’s only 8 years old. The girl is the youngest person known to have secretory breast carcinoma, which affects only 1 in 1 million people.

“She came to us on a Sunday afternoon, she said, ‘Mommy, I have been scared, and I have this lump,'” her mom, Annette, told ABC News. “It had been there for a while.”

Luckily, experts say the cancer is treatable with surgery. Chrissy will have to undergo a mastectomy in early December, but she’s not scared of what’s to come. “I was scared the first time that I knew about it,” Chrissy told ABC 4 Utah News. “But I knew that I could fight it off and I hope that I can fight it off.”

Jimmy Carter Diagnosed With Cancer

Former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter, said Wednesday that a recent liver surgery revealed he had cancer that had spread to other parts of his body. “I will be rearranging my schedule as necessary so I can undergo treatment by physicians at Emory Healthcare.

“A more complete public statement will be made when facts are known, possibly next week,” said Carter, 90, in a statement issued from the Carter Center.

Carter, a Democrat born in October 1924, served as the 39th U.S. president from 1977 to 1981 after defeating Republican incumbent Gerald Ford. He was defeated for re-election by Ronald Reagan of Republican Party in 1980. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
