El-Rufai Swears In New Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries.

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has sworn-in four new commissioners and eight permanent secretaries.

The new commissioners sworn in included: Barrister Umma Hikima, Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, Commissioner for Local Government, Professor Kabir Mohammed Mato, Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry and Hafsat Mohammed Baba, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development.

The governor also appointed two caretaker chairmen for Giwa and Zangon-Kataf Local Government Areas.

In his address at the inauguration of the appointees, El-Rufai said his government decided to bring new commissioners to energize the administration for better performance.

While commending the former commissioners for their service rendered to the people of Kaduna state, he explained that none of them were dropped or sacked but were deployed to handle other government assignments.

He reminded the appointees that they were joining the cabinet at a time the state and country as a whole is facing economic challenges, hence they must work harder to deliver on their mandate.

“I thank the former commissioners for their service in our state. I want to make it clear that we didn’t drop any commissioner.

“None of our commissioners was dropped. Some former commissioners have been deployed to other functions of government. So, our team is intact and we are all together.

“We carefully selected our team members. We decided to bring new commissioners to energize the administration and to inject new blood.

“You are joining a ‘wahala’ team and I sympathise with you because we work with little earnings.

“The permanent secretaries were chosen based on their competence, integrity and all the directors chosen to be permanent secretaries sat for exams and faced oral interview so, we have the best of permanent secretaries,” he explained.

Some of the appointees thanked the governor for deeming them fit to serve in his administration, hence, promised to contribute their quota towards making Kaduna state great again.

Buhari Swears In INEC Commissioners

President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in the newly-appointed Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The swearing-in was conducted inside the Council chamber of the State House Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

The ceremony was done shortly before the commencement of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

The nominees were earlier confirmed by the Senate and were sworn-in by the president as required by Section 154(1) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended.

The six nominees are Ogunmola Ladipo, May Agbamuche, Abubakar Nahuche and Okechukwu Ibianu. Others are Mohammed Haruna and Ahmad Muazu.

Mr. Ladipo, from Oyo State, was born on May 7, 1952. Until his swearing-in Wednesday, he was the Resident Independent Electoral Commission, REC, in Lagos State.

Mrs. Agbamuche, a lawyer, is the Editor Thisday Lawyer, a publication of Thisday Newspaper.

Abubakar Nahuche, from Zamfara State, was born on May 19, 1953. He is a retired Army officer and a former CEO of defunct NITEL.

Mr. Ibianu, from Anambra State, was born on November 3,1959. He is a former Technical adviser to INEC from 2010-2015.

Mr. Mohammed Haruna, from Niger state was born on September 22, 1951.

A seasoned journalist, Mr. Mohammed was an editor of New Nigerian Newspaper and former spokesperson of former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Ahmad Muazu, a retired Air Vice Marshall of Nigerian Airforce was born on September 6, 1967 in Gombe.

In a brief remark after the swearing in, President Buhari said the appointees were persons of integrity and express the belief that such integrity will come to bear in the discharge of their responsibilities.

” This administration will demand of you to be firm and fair. What this administration expects is that after we have left, Nigerians will look at the political history and know that we served Nigeria.

“We want every Nigeria to use his PVC processed by card reader, that they have been given the opportunity and security in their various constituencies to elect who they want to elect. The rest is left to their conscience and to God,” the president said.

Speaking on behalf of the other new commissioners, Mr. Ibianu thanked the president and Nigerians for “the challenging opportunity to serve the country”.

Akwa Ibom Assembly confirms 18 nominees as commissioners

The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed 18 commissioner nominees and two Special Advisers as requested by Governor Udom Emmanuel.

 

The confirmation of the nominees followed their screening by the committee of the whole.

 

The House Leader, Udo Akpan, moved a motion for their confirmation and Aniekan Bassey (PDP-Uruan) seconded the motion.

 

The new commissioners are Paul Udofia, Ime Ekpo, Nse Essien, Eno Ikpe, Idoroenyin Udo and Nsikan Nkan.

 

The others are Uduak Udoinyang, Charles Udo, Orman Esin, Iniobong Essien, Dominic Ukpong, Uwemidimo Nwoko and Victor Antai.

 

The rest are Monday Uko, Glory Edet, Udoh Ekpenyong, Akan Okon as well as Ephraim Inyang.

 

The new Special Advisers are Ekong Sampson and Ekemini Umoh.

 

The Speaker of the House, Onofiok Luke, said that the nominees during the screening exhibited high level of intelligence and responsibility.

 

Mr. Luke therefore urged the commissioners-designate to help the governor in his endeavour to build a strong state.

 

He noted that the times demanded some sacrifice from all the new commissioners.

 

The Speaker also urged them to work with the permanent secretaries for effective service delivery to the people.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that Mr. Emmanuel dissolved the former state executive council on October 15.

 

The governor forwarded the list of 18 nominees and two special advisers on November 25, made up of nine old executive members and 11 new ones to the assembly for confirmation.

Akwa Ibom governor nominates 20 Commissioners, Special Advisers.

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has forwarded the names of 20 persons to the State House of Assembly for appointment as Commissioners and Special Advisers.
The names were read on the floor of the House by the Clerk of the assembly, Mandu Umoren, on Friday at plenary.

 

Those for appointment as commissioners are Paul Udofia, Ime Ekpo, Nse Essien, Eno Ikpe, Idoroenyin Udo and Mr Linus Nkan.

 

Others are Uduak Udoinyang, Charles Udo, Orman Esin, Iniobong Essien, Dominic Ukpong, Uwemedimoh Nwoko and Victor Antai.

 

Also on the list of nominees are Monday Uko, Glory Edet, Udo Ekpenyong, Akan Okon, and Ephraim Inyang.

 

Two names,  Ekong Sampson and Ekemini Umoh, were submitted for appointment as Special Advisers by the governor.

 

The Speaker, Onofiok Luke, who presided over the sitting, referred the list to the House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions for further legislative action.

 

He directed the committee to report back to the House within one week.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 20-man list shows that nine of the nominees were part of the State Executive Council dissolved by the governor on Oct. 15, while 11 were new.

God directed me to sack my commissioners – Udom Emmanuel

The Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, has claimed the holy spirit of God led him to sack the State executive council, adding that all indigenes stand a chance of making the next cabinet.

He further claimed that he was looking up to God to help him constitute the next executive council.

The governor, in a statement issued last week by the Secretary to the State Government, Etekamba Umoren, sacked all the commissioners in the state with immediate effect.  and no reason was given for the decision, directing them to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their ministries.

Emmanuel, who was speaking at a programme in Reigners Bible Church International, Uyo, capital of the state, pointed out that he did not know who would be selected as members of the next executive council of the state.

According to him, “As I speak, I do not know who will make the list of the next cabinet, and I don’t even know when I will constitute the cabinet,” he said.

“There is no point rushing to make predictions and draw conclusions because I have left everything in the hands of God, to direct the selection and choose those He knows will be sincere and committed to the Akwa Ibom course.

“Every indigene of Akwa Ibom, including those seated here, stand a chance of making the list.”

2 commissioners arrested over funds from Diezani.

Two commissioners in Enugu, Charles Egumbe and Rita Mba, have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Punch reports that the commissioners were arrested in connection to their alleged involvement in a N23billion allegedly disbursed by Diezani Alison-Madueke in the run-up to the 2015 general election.

Before their appointments as Commissioners for Water Resources – Charles Egumgbe and Commissioner for Tourism – Rita Mba, the politicians held sway as the chairman and secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign in the state during the 2015 election.

“They were detained, they made statements and they were later released on bail,” Johnson Babalola, the EFCC zonal head, south east zone disclosed.

Also arrested by the EFCC was Ikeje Asogwa, the current chairman of the board of Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board.

It was further reported that the arrested politicians’ names popped up during the interrogation of Sullivan Chime by EFCC officials.

Buhari Appoints NCC Commissioners

President Muhammadu Buhari has requested the Senate to confirm nominees into positions of Chairman, Executive Commissioner, and Non-Executive Commissioners of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

In a letter dated August 2, 2016, sent to President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, Mr. Buhari nominated Olabiyi Durojaiye as chairman of the commission.

Mr. Durojaiye, a former senator, is to represent the South West.

The president also nominated Sunday Dare as the NCC’s Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders Management.

Mr. Dare will also represent the south west. He is an aide to a former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu.

Those nominated as Non-Executive Commissioners are: Aliyu Sa’idu Abubakar (North East), Clement Omeiza Baiye (North Central), Okoi Ofem Obono Obla (South South), Ezekiel Yissa (North Central) and Ifeanyi Ararume (South East).

“The nominations are in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act 2003,” a statement by the president’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said on Tuesday.

Kebbi Gets 7 More Commissioners

Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, on Wednesday urged commissioners in the state to ensure discipline, prudence and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

The governor said in Birnin Kebbi, after the swearing-in of seven new members of the state executive council, that they must also avoid sentiment in handling their responsibilities.

He said that henceforth, all appointments in the state civil service would be based on merit, in order to fast track the development of the state.

Bagudu stressed that the appointees must justify their selection by working selflessly to implement government policies targeted at ensuring the rapid development of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the seven commissioners were sworn-in by Justice Ibrahim Kangiwa, on behalf of the state Chief Judge, Justice Bala Mairiga.

The commissioners are Umar Kambazza, Maigari Dakingari, Zailani Muhammad, Abubakar Besse, Muhammad Suleiman, Musa Kalgo and Garba Karaye.

NAN reports that eight commissioners were earlier sworn-in a month ago, thus bringing the total to 15 commissioners in the state.

The new commissioners are yet go be assigned portfolio.

Buhari seeks Senate’s confirmation of INEC chairman, commissioners

The Senate on Thursday received a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari, seeking confirmation of the appointment of Chairman and Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) .
In the letter, the President requested the Senate to confirm Prof. Mahmud Yakubu as chairman of the commission, Mrs Amina Zakari, Dr Anthonia Okosi, Mr Baba Shettima, Dr Muhammadu Lekki, and Mr Soyebi Solomon as commissioners.
Meanwhile, the Senate has also received two fresh petitions, challenging the nomination of Aisha Ibrahim from Sokoto State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Senate Committee of Ethics and Privileges had earlier thrown out a petition against her “for improper address.”
The committee had said that the petition was addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and not the Senate President, as such it would be improper to act on it.
The new petitions bring to five the number of nominees, who have been petitioned.

Cross River Commissioner Nominees To Write Aptitude Test

All nominees for appointment as commissioners in Cross River State are expected to write mandatory integrity and aptitude tests before they can be appointed into office. According to a statement signed by the special assistant on media to Governor Ben Ayade, Mr. Christian Ita and released yesterday September 21st, the nominees would have to undergo integrity and aptitude tests before their names would be forwarded to the state House of Assembly for confirmation.

“His Excellency, Professor Ben Ayade wants all nominees for appointments as commissioners to undergo integrity test. Additionally, the nominees would write an aptitude test,” the statement said.

It added that the governor believes that the prospective appointees must be subjected to ethical measurement to ascertain whether or not they can function with utmost integrity. A selection committee to oversee the process has been constituted which is to be headed by renowned Abuja-based lawyer, Mr. Paul Erokoro.

State Introduces Aptitude Tests For Commissioners

Incoming commissioners and heads of some agencies in Cross River State will have to undergo an aptitude and integrity test, government announced on Monday.

In a statement, the Special Assistant to Governor Ben Ayade on Media, Christian Ita, said that candidates will have to pass the tests before their names can be submitted to the House of Assembly for confirmation.

“Every would-be appointee in the state must be subjected to ethical measurement to ascertain whether or not they can function in the new order, where accountability and transparency are the watchwords,” he stated.

Appoint INEC Chair, Commissioners Now; Reps Tell Buhari

The House of Representatives yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately appoint substantive chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other national commissioners.

The House said INEC as presently constituted cannot carry out its constitutional functions of preparing for the incoming elections in some states of the federation.

In adopting a motion by Rep Edward Gyang Pwajok (PDP, Plateau), the House noted that since Jega’s departure with some commissioners, tenures of other national commissioners and some resident electoral commissioners’ (RECs)  have equally expired on August 10.

Arase Deploys New Commissioners Of Police In Lagos, Rivers, Ogun

Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase has deployed new Commissioners of Police in Lagos, Rivers and Ogun states.

According to him, the move is to inject fresh ideas in the security architecture of the states, and some other Force Headquarters Formations.

A statement signed by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Shogunle said the postings are with immediate effect.

In the deployment chat, Ajani Fatai Owoseni was posted to Lagos, Chris Ezike, Rivers, and Abdulmajid Ali, Ogun state. Dan Bature will now take charge of Intelligence at the FCIID, Force Headquarters; Valentine Ntomchukwu is now CP Administration, Department of Logistics and Supplies, Force Headquarters and Hyelasinda Kimo Musa, CP Federal SARS.

Others are Kayode Aderanti, CP Administration, Department of Operations, FHQ; E.J Ibine, CP Port Authority, Eastern Command and Ogbusua Aja Oleh, CP Provost, FHQ.

The IGP expressed the hope that the new postings will reverse the crime wave in the affected states, while also strengthening administration in the affected strategic Force Headquarters Formations.

Jega Sends 6 INEC Commissioners To Coordinate Imo Guber Re-Run

Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has deployed six national electoral commissioners to Imo State for Saturday’s supplementary governorship election.

Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Dr. Gabriel Ada, at a news briefing yesterday stated that the deployment of the national electoral commissioners from Abuja was to strengthen the existing staff of the commission in the state to ensure that the conduct of the supplementary governorship poll was hitch-free.

He also said ad-hoc staff would not be used in the re-run election, adding that sensitive materials for the poll had arrived the state.
