Repentant Armed Bandits, Vigilantes Surrender Weapons To Army

Repentant armed bandits and livestock rustlers have continued to surrender their weapons to the military in Zamfara state, this is following the peace initiative by the state government together with the 1 Division Nigerian Army which started in 2016.

On Wednesday March 8, 2017, repentant armed bandits and local vigilante group called “’Yansakai” in Ruwan Tofa, ‘Yar Galadima and Babban Doka in Maru Local Government Area, Danwaren Daji in Tsafe Local Government Area, as well as Mada in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, handed over large quantities of dangerous arms and ammunition.

In a statement by Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman said, 3 AK-47 Rifles, 1 foreign made Pistol, 1,169 Dane Guns, 323 Locally Made Pistols, 54 X Locally Made Revolvers, 102 Locally Made Multi-Barrel Pistols and 22 X Locally Made Double Barrel Rifles, were handed to 223 Battalion, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army in the presence of some state government officials and representatives of the various heads of security agencies in the State.

Over the last few months over a thousand assorted weapons have been surrendered across the North West Zone.

Police arrest 195 rustlers, rescue 21 kidnapped villagers.

The Niger State Police Command says it has made appreciable success in the renewed onslaught against cattle rustlers, kidnappers and other organized crimes in the state.

 

The State Commissioner of Police Zubairu Muazu told newsmen yesterday in Minna that the joint effort by the command and other security agencies led to arrest of 195 suspected cattle rustlers and recovery of 612 cows in various locations of the state.

 

He said the effort also led to the rescue of 21 kidnapped persons during raids on criminals’ hideouts across the state.

 

The state had witnessed resurgence of cattle rustling activities, prompting a massive deployment of security personnel to areas designated as danger spots. “The police in collaboration with sister security agencies took the battle to the dens of armed bandits in Allawa, Kukoki, Pandogari, Isau, Kaffinkoro, Sarkin- pawa, Shiroro, Mangoro, Lapai and Gurara. The aerial surveillance and ground raids culminated into the harvest of arrests and recovery of assorted weapons,” the police boss said.

 

He said among those arrested were 24 most wanted kidnappers and cattle rustlers,” adding that 612 cattle recovered from the suspects had been handed over to their owners.

Cattle rustling: Niger Police arrest 8 suspects in Shiroro – CP

The Niger State Police Command has arrested eight suspected cattle rustlers allegedly terrorising the people of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.

Zubairu Muazu, the Commissioner of Police, disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Minna.

He said that 21 cows were recovered from the area after the arrest.

He said that the command had put in place various forms of security measures to ensure the arrest and prosecution of more criminals in the state.

He explained that the suspects were arrested within the forest in the area which was believed to be hideout of cattle rustlers.

Muazu said: “We have combed the entire forest and blocked identified routes of cattle rustlers for their arrest and prosecution.’’

The commissioner said the deployment of well-armed security personnel was purely responsible for the success recorded.

He explained that the command had taken concrete working measures to prevent cattle rustling and kidnapping through effective security network.

He solicited the support of communities to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of criminals in the area.

He noted: “We are battle ready to deal with any form of security threats as our officers have been briefed on security method to be adopted in confronting miscreants.”

Soldiers Kill 20 Cattle Rustlers In Zamfara

At least 20 cattle rustlers were killed at the weekend in a military operation in Zamfara State.  The soldiers also recovered 200, 10 AK 47 rifles ammunition.

“We have succeeded in our battle with cattle rustlers, 20 of them were gunned down. We are also able to recover live ammunition, 10 AK 47 and 1 AK 49 riffles from the bandits,” he said.
Other villages raided include Malele, Yarwutsiya, Babar doka, Ruwan Tofa and some neibouring villages.

Police Nab 34 Cattle Rustlers In Kebbi

Kebbi State Police command has apprehended 34 suspected cattle rustlers  and recovered 27 fire arms and impounded  24 motorcycles belonging to the suspects.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 10, Tambari Yabo Muhammad, who addressed newsman during his official visit to the State command in Birnin Kebbi,  said the suspects were specialists in Cattle rustling and robbery, stressing that they would be charge to court for prosecution.

“1,000 Cattle had also been recovered from cattle rustlers in Bena town,Danko-Wasagu local government of Kebbi state last week by the anti cattle rustlers team.

“Assorted arms and ammunitions  and a rocket propelled grenade were recovered during a raid operation by anti cattle rustlers  team in Bena Forest in  Danko-Wasagu local government area.

“The Kebbi Police command has intensified patrol of Yauri and  Zuru local government areas  in the southern part  to curtail the rampant of Cattle rustling and kidnapping in the dense forest and mountain terrain”, he added.

The AIG applauded the efforts of the  Police command in crime control and assured  that support to the command would be enhanced.

He,  however, warned the officers and men of the command against interfering in civil cases,adding,”we cannot condone illegal detention,extortion from general public,harassment,intimidation and  human rights violation. ”

He challenged policemen to re dedicate themselves to their duties by shunning corruption and called on citizens to always be security conscious by reporting suspicious attempts of  wrong-doing.
