Oliseh, Musa Not Carried Away By 3-0 Victory Over Cameroun

Although the Super Eagles were imperial in their 3-0 defeat of eternal rivals, Cameroun, in a friendly game on Sunday, the team’s coach, Sunday Oliseh, and Captain Ahmed Musa say a lot still has to be done to get the team to the desired level. But they agree that the signs are good.

The team on Thursday lost 0-2 to Congo DR before bouncing back on Sunday with an emphatic 3-0 defeat of Cameroun.

Speaking after Sunday’s game in Belgium, Musa said the players showed they had the quality to achieve greatness, adding that they would gel as long as they continued playing together.

“It was a very good game for us. We did well and it served the purpose because we are gradually coming back to the team Nigerians want us to be, which we also want to be, we understand ourselves better being a new team. We all put in our best to achieve the result,” Musa said.

BUSTED! 22 Boko Haram Members Among Nigerian Deportees From Cameroon

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has discovered 22 Boko Haram members among Nigerians deported from Cameroun. The returnees were settled at the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Mubi, Adamawa, State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Director General of NEMA, Mr, Muhammad Sani Sidi, disclosed this at the 18th Safe Schools Initiative Technical Committee meeting yesterday in Abuja.

Sidi stated that the Boko Haram members were identified with a peculiar mark on their backs among the 12,000 Nigerians deported from Cameroun residing at the IDPs camp in Mubi.

He added that 90 per cent of the deported persons were from Borno State. “The Camerounian government dumped 12,000 Nigerians at Mubi and we had to move them to transit camps and even open more camps to accommodate them.

“Ninety per cent of these returnees are from Borno State with a lot of Boko Haram elements among them.

“We arrested 22 of them yesterday, who were actually planning an attack, they were identified with a mark inscribed on their backs with hot iron in form of tattoos. The mark on their backs indicates that they are ready to die,’’ Sidi said.

NEMA Receives 12, 000 Nigerian Returnees From Cameroun

About 12,000 Nigerians, mostly from Borno State, who fled insurgency attacks by Boko Haram to the Republic of Cameroun, have started arriving home through the border post in Sahuda, Mubi South, Adamawa State.

The position which was made known via a Press Statement signed by Senior Information officer of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mallam Sani Datti noted that the returnees are currently being screened by the Nigerian Immigration Service and the security agencies.

“The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has so far received 1,121 of the returnees from the Nigerian Immigration Service at the border post, out of which 650 have been transported to Borno State, while the remaining are still at Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons camp in Yola,” the statement said.

The statement also noted that “In the mean time, NEMA is providing food and non-food items as well as medical cover to cater for the returnees at the border while awaiting the conclusion of the immigration and security screening. Arrangements have also been concluded to locate the returnees to a new camp in Fufore, Adamawa State for proper care.”

Chad, Cameroun, Others Adopt Buhari’s Proposal For Nigeria To Lead Boko Haram War

An extraordinary meeting of Heads and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin has approved that Nigeria retains the position of the force commander in the war against Boko Haram until the end of the mission.

It also approved that the slot of the deputy force commander and chief of staff be rotated between Cameroun and Chad every twelve months.

Their decision followed an earlier rejection of a rotational six-month tenure of the Multi-National Joint Task Force’s Commander, by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr. Buhari suggested instead that Nigeria heads the force for the period of the war against the insurgents since it was providing the bulk of troops.

Mr. Buhari had earlier argued that such a process will undermine the military’s capacity to sustain the push against the insurgents “who also have the uncanny ability to adapt and rejig their operational strategies”.

“This command will be to the effectiveness of military strategy, since Nigeria will be providing the bulk of the troops and the main theatre of the war is on Nigerian soil,” he said.
