Samsung boss charged with bribery, embezzlement

South Korean prosecutors charged Samsung Group [SARG.UL] chief Jay Y. Lee with bribery and embezzlement on Tuesday as the top conglomerate announced the dismantling of its corporate strategy office, the latest developments in a graft scandal that has rocked the country.

Jay Y. Lee, 48, was arrested on Feb. 17 over his alleged role in the corruption scandal involving impeached President Park Geun-hye, dealing a fresh blow to the standard-bearer for Asia’s fourth-largest economy.

The special prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday, the last day of its investigation, that it had charged Lee, third-generation leader of the tech giant “chaebol”, and four other executives with bribery and embezzlement.

The charges against Lee included pledging bribes to a company and organizations tied to Park’s confidant, Choi Soon-sil, the woman at the center of the scandal, to cement his control of the smartphones-to-biopharmaceuticals business empire.

“We apologize for the social controversy and distress we have caused,” Samsung Group Executive Vice President Lee June told reporters.

The charges came ahead of a Constitutional Court ruling on whether to uphold parliament’s December impeachment of Park.

That impeachment was triggered by accusations that she colluded with Choi to pressure big businesses, including Samsung, to donate to two foundations set up to back the president’s policy initiatives.

The 65-year-old daughter of a former military strongman has had her powers suspended. The Constitutional Court’s ruling is expected sometime in March.

Should it uphold the impeachment, Park would become the country’s first democratically elected president to be thrown out of office.

While a sitting president cannot be indicted, the special prosecutors nevertheless have classified her as a suspect.

They did not disclose specifics of the charges against Lee or other Samsung executives. Samsung Group, which has denied paying bribes to Park or seeking improper favors from her, declined to comment on the indictment.

Park, Choi and Lee have all denied wrongdoing. Based on the main charges levied against Lee, he could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Lee in December promised to shut Samsung’s corporate strategy office, a key nerve center responsible for major initiatives such as investment in new businesses, amid accusations by politicians that it was a key organ for illicit lobbying efforts.

Composed of around 200 employees hand-picked from various affiliates, the office did not exist as a legal entity but wielded enormous power as the instrument of control for the founding Lee family.

Samsung said the chief executives and boards of the various affiliates such as Samsung Electronics and Samsung C&T Corp would set their own course going forward.

“It is a shock that Samsung completely dismantled the whole office, cutting the link between group affiliates as if it broke up a fleet,” Chung Sun-sup, chief executive of corporate research firm Chaebul.com, said.

“This is a significant change to South Korea’s chaebol management style.”

A Samsung Group spokeswoman said it had not yet decided how the conglomerate would deal with group-level issues such as coordination among affiliates.

People familiar with the matter told Reuters in November that Lee was already moving towards more board-centric management to improve governance. The executive became a board member of Samsung Electronics last year, which the sources said signaled a desire to bring the conglomerate’s management practices up to global standards.

The prosecutors also charged four others at Samsung with offences including bribery and hiding assets overseas – group Vice Chairman Choi Gee-sung, President Chang Choong-ki, Samsung Electronics President Park Sang-jin and Executive Vice President Hwang Sung-soo.

Samsung Group said in its subsequent announcement that Choi, Chang and Park had resigned.

Samsung chief Lee is accused of pledging 43 billion won ($38 million) in bribes to a company and organizations backed by President Park’s confidant, Choi, to curry favor and cement his control of the conglomerate.

The funding included sponsorship of the equestrian career of Choi’s daughter. Samsung Group also said on Tuesday that it would leave the Korean Equestrian Federation that it heads.

Special prosecution spokesman Lee Kyu-chul told reporters the case against Park would be handed over to regular prosecutors, while signaling other conglomerates may also become involved in the investigation.

It was not immediately clear when Lee’s trial would begin.

The special prosecutor’s office will deliver a final report on its investigation on March 6.

El-Rufai, Shehu Sani go to war amidst bribery allegations.

Some officials of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have accused an aide to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of offering a N3 million bribe for them to suspend a senator.

The APC executives of Ward 6, , Kaduna South Local Government Area, said this on Sunday at a press conference.

They accused Uba Sani, Mr. El-Rufai’s political adviser, of offering the bribe to some of their fellow executive members to suspend Shehu Sani who represents Kaduna Central in the Senate.

Messrs. Sani and El-Rufai are both leaders of APC in Kaduna but are political adversaries.

Abbas Anni, the chairman of APC, Ward 6, spoke on behalf of his colleagues. He called on the anti-graft agency, EFCC, to investigate the bribery allegation.

The party official also linked the new allegation to a previous one in December last year when some of his fellow executives were accused of receiving N500,000 bribe to suspend Mr. Sani from the party.

Mr. Anni has since said that suspension was void.

“It is very unfortunate that this ugly move is propping up again after the disgraceful episode of a N500,000 bribe that was purportedly given by the same set of people to instigate the alleged suspension of Senator Shehu Sani about a year ago,” he said on Wednesday.

Mr. Anni called on the APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, and other leaders to intervene in the Kaduna crisis. He said they should act fast “before the Kaduna State Governor and his cronies destroy APC in Kaduna State.”

In reaction, another official of the APC in the ward, Auwal Abdulhameed.

Mr. Abdulhameed, who said he is the ward secretary, said Mr. Anni got a car from the senator while “the other eight (executive members opposed to Mr. Sani’s suspension) got motorcycles.”

“We have petitioned to the Commissioner of Police and we shall sue for defamation of character over these accusations that we received N3 million from SA on Political to Governor El-Rufai,” he added.

Mr. El-Rufai’s political adviser, Mr. Sani, declined comment when contacted to speak on the allegations.

APC’s Legal Adviser Steps Aside Over Bribery Allegation

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire (SAN), has stepped aside to answer questions concerning his alleged bribing of a judge at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.

In a letter dated November 8, 2016 which he reportedly addressed to the party leadership, he said he was not only shocked but “extremely disturbed” by media reports claiming he paid a judge N500,000.

Banire insisted he had voluntarily submitted himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning.Several attempts by The Guardian to get Banire to confirm the authorship of the letter yesterday in Abuja, however, failed as his mobile phone was switched off, and text message was not replied.

His decision to step down came less than 24 hours after he issued a statement denying the bribery allegations. He claimed the money he offered the judge was a gift and not a bribe.

BREAKING: NJC suspends 7 senior judges accused of corruption.

The National Judicial Council, NJC, has suspended seven senior judges arrested in October by the State Security Service for alleged corruption.

The NJC had initially refused to suspend the judges despite public pressure, saying the allegations against them had not been substantiated.

It however said the judges had voluntarily stepped down from court sittings.

The latest decision came after the council’s 7th meeting between Wednesday and Thursday.

A communique issued at the end of the meeting, and signed by NJC’s Director of Information, Soji Oye, said the decision was taken to avoid allowing persons under investigation to to partake in presiding over judicial matters at the same time.

“Council also decided that Judicial Officers shall not be standing trial for alleged corruption related offences and be performing judicial functions at the same time,” the communique said. “Council however decided that it will ensure that Judicial Officers who are being investigated for alleged high profile criminal offences do not perform judicial functions until their cases are concluded.”

The judges were arrested on October 7.

Bribery allegation: In defence of Amaechi, morality and common sense – Odoma

Blackmail is another weapon Nigerians deploy to flaunt their innocence whenever they are at threshold of being nailed on any issue. Most times, the manner Nigerians resort to blackmail stands logic on its head, twist morality and offend laws of the land.

Although, several justices in Nigeria are under investigation, but the case of the two embattled Supreme Court Justices John Iyang Okoro and Sylvester Ngwuta’s whom DSS raided, arrested and detained for alleged judicial corruption has assumed an asinine twist.

Conspiratorially, the duo heaped allegations of attempts to corrupt them by former Rivers State governor and Transport Minister, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

They mindlessly lashed out at Amaechi, accusing him of providing the grounds for their persecution for refusal to tinker with some governorship elections petitions before the apex court. They funnily want Nigerians to believe the refusal to be negatively influenced by one person forecloses the chances of accepting same request from another person.

Justice Okoro started it all. On October 17, 2016, he claimed in a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed, that he rejected the offer of Amaechi to influence justices to alter verdicts on the governorship tussle in favour of APC in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states. Okoro expressed strong conviction that his present travails may not be unconnected with his snubbing of Amaechi’s request to tamper with the verdicts. And that he made a verbal report to the CJN on February 1, 2016, about Amaechi’s visit to his official residence.

“In that report, I told you my Lord that Mr. Amaechi said the President of Nigeria and the All Progressives Congress mandated him to inform me that they must win their election appeals in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states at all costs,” he enthused.

Less than 48 hours after Okoro’s publicized allegations on Amaechi, another embattled colleague also under the heat of DSS over judicial corruption mouthed the same allegation. What separated the two were the states involved-only Rivers and Ekiti states guber disputes.

Justice Ngwuta’s allegations were contained in a letter dated October 18, 2016, also addressed to the CJN. Lamenting his several unfriendly encounters with Amaechi, the justice reeled out series of mindboggling issues, including alleged threats from Amaechi.
Interestingly, whatever problem the accused justices have with the DSS is strictly their burden to resolve. But the hasty roping of Amaechi into their dilemma with the DSS based on such hazy recollections and projection of the abnormal belittles their status as justices of the apex court.

By the submissions, it is discernible the judges have advertised issues intended to raise a podium to rubbish and blackmail Amaechi; except that they are poorly scripted in timing and factuality.

First, from DSS and EFCC files, at least 15 judges at various layers of the judiciary are under investigation currently for alleged judicial corruption.

The submission of Justices Okoro and Ngwuta in the letter to the CJN is forcing a baseless impression that the remaining 13 judges too could have possibly turned down Amaechi’s overtures to influence verdicts in their courts and thus, his invocation of “harassment” from security agents? It cannot be true.

Let’s hypothetically agree that President Buhari is an interested party in any of the governorships disputes in the mentioned states, under litigation at the Supreme Court, but everyone knows it’s impossible for him to delegate Amaechi to influence any judge at his behest.

Ideally, he would rather parley with the CJN directly expressing his interest in the cases and it ends it all. But if he cannot condescend to the level of the CJN, the alternatives are clear and Amaechi is not in this reckoning by any stretch of imagination.

To further water the impression of DSS’s arrest and detention of the justices as vendetta for their refusal to compromise justice, the wailing justices speak as if the Director-General of the DSS or Chairman of EFCC take directives from Amaechi, so with his snap of the fingers to settle a personal grievance, security agents rushed after the accused judges.

But the justices, especially of the Supreme Court, are the final destination in the interpretation of laws of Nigeria. Like River State APC Chairman, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, averred in a public statement, the justices should know better that the giver and taker of bribes commit criminal offences under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence Act 2000.

These learned justices had the opportunity to brighten Nigeria’s perception of Buhari’s anti-graft war by publicly clipping the wings of Amaechi who sought to adulterate their verdicts with bribes. But they reneged; waited for months to be accused of judicial corruption before they remembered their uprightness or vow not to desecrate their sacred oath of office. These are tales far from the truth.

Additionally, a very senior judge like Justice Ngwuta as disclosed in his distorted epistle to the CJN was threatened by a politician like Amaechi who came to his house and said ‘we shall see’ several times,” and he kept mum?

It is conceivable that a Supreme Court judge would bury obvious threats to his life and would not even document it with the National Judicial Council (NJC), but merely inform the CJN orally. Is he saying the NJC forbids members of the Bench from taking legal actions against violators of their rights or when their lives are threatened?

It brings the matter to another realm of reasoning. Almost all the raided, arrested and detained judges are alleging innocence and judicial persecution by the presidency.

They have also qualified the raids of their houses, arrest and detention as illegal and unconstitutional. It implies DSS and its principals have infringed their fundamental rights as Nigerians.

But they are unprepared to explain to Nigerians what is restraining them from challenging DSS action in court, if they are convinced of their innocence. Or are they implying that laws governing NJC also forbid judges from seeking legal redress over personal injuries or infringements on them by individuals, government institutions or government itself?

These justices should go back to their factory of doubtful tales and bark out something more convincing to Nigerians. For now, their rehearsed fables with the glaring intent of blackmailing Amaechi nay the FGN to inspire public sympathy has failed to impress anyone and hit the rocks.

Why Always Me: Another Supreme Court Justice accuses Amaechi of bribery.

The last of the two justices of the Supreme Court arrested during the invasion of the residences of the justices of the court by the Department of State Security Service, DSS, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, yesterday accused the former governor of Rivers State and now, Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of masterminding the operation.

Also yesterday, the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA called on the judges accused of corruption to cease adjudicating on cases until the allegations against them are cleared.

The president of the umbrella body of lawyers called on them to purge themselves of the allegation before sitting in judgement on cases.

Justice Ngwuta, in a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, said that Amaechi had approached him in 2013, where he asked him to set aside the election that produced Mr. Ayo Fayose as governor of Ekiti State and replace him with the former governor of Ekiti State who is now the minister of Solid Minerals, Kayode Fayemi.

He also said in the letter that Amaechi had also attempted to influence other Justices on the Rivers election panel.

Ngwuta said: “My present plight started sometime between 2013 and 2014. I represented the then Chief Justice of Nigeria in an event organised in the International Conference Centre.

“Honourable Rotimi Amaechi came in late and sat next to me at the high table. He introduced himself to me and we exchanged contacts. A few weeks after, Fayose’s case was determined in the Court of Appeal.

“Amaechi called me by 6.45 am. He said he had come to see me but was told I had left for my office. When he said he would return in the evening, I demanded to know what he wanted but he would not tell me.

“He did not come that evening but came the following morning when I was already prepared to go to work. He begged me to ensure that Fayose’s election was set aside and another election ordered for his friend Fayemi.”

Customs dismisses 29 senior officers for bribery, forgery.

Less than a week after the management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) sacked 17 junior officers for bribery, drug addiction, use of fake certificates and absence from duty, the Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali, has approved the dismissal of 29 senior officers for various acts of gross misconduct.

The public relations officer of the service, Wale Adeniyi, said the affected officers are among 44 senior officers who were punished for actions capable of compromising national economy and security.

He stated that 10 other officers were retired from service, while the appointment of one officer was terminated.

He further stated that four officers were given written warnings to be of better conduct while another four officers who were investigated and tried for some offences were exonerated.

“Four of the officers who got the hammer were of the rank of deputy-comptroller of Customs, while five were Assistant-comptroller. Others were seven Chief Superintendents of Customs and four Superintendents, among others.

“comptroller-general of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (retd) had made it clear upon his assumption of duties that the Service will not compromise on corruption and indiscipline among the officers corps.

In line with this, the structure and process for investigation of offences was strengthened to handle cases reported promptly and professionally.

“We will give all officers fair hearing in line with the principle of natural justice. We will however insist that sanctions be punitive, not only to match the offence committed, but to serve as deterrent to others”, the CGC remarked at Management meeting convened to consider the report of the Disciplinary Committee that investigated the cases.

Adeniyi disclosed in the statement that the process of dismissing the officers were based on the civil service rules.

“The process leading to the actions taken on the officers was painstaking in line with the Public Service Rules (PSR). All the officers were served with Queries indicating offences committed, before they made appearances before the Special Investigation Committee.

“The Committee’s recommendation was discussed and approved by the Customs Management. The recommendation was thereafter referred to the Presidency for ratification, in the absence of a substantive Board for the Nigeria Customs Service. All the officers affected in the exercise have been communicated accordingly.

“The Comptroller-General warned officers that punitive sanctions will continue to be used to discipline officers who refuse to embrace change.

“Officers affected in this exercise were investigated for involvement in improper examination and release of containers without proper documentation and payment of duties, illegal release of goods in advance before the arrival of vessels, collection of bribe to release prohibited items, release of export prohibitions, fraudulent sale of seized items, use of fake certificates and bribery to secure auctioned goods.”

Navy Declares Fake Captain, Others Accused Of Bribery Wanted

The Nigerian Navy has declared an impostor who collected bribe from unsuspecting members of the public as a senior naval officer wanted for impersonation.

The Director of Information (DINFO), Commodore Christian Ezekobe, made this clarification on Monday following a report that one “Captain Olugboyega Olubiyi Ayokunle” who claims to be a senior officer of the Nigerian Navy collected the sum of N100,000.00 from Mr Olugbemiga Ayeni as mobilization fee for investigation into alleged fraudulent dealings involving another naval officer, whose name is given as Prince Aderemi, Aderemi’s wife and one Mr Olugbenga Ayeni.

Ezekobe said that in view of the report and a formal complaint forwarded to the Naval Headquarters by Mr Olugbemiga Ayeni on the behavior of the said “Captain Olugboyega Olubiyi Ayokunle”, the Nigerian Navy carried out a thorough investigation on the identity of the names mentioned and discovered that the men who are parading as officers of the Nigerian Navy are impostors.

“To this end, the Nigerian Navy wishes to state categorically that the said Prince Aderemi is not a naval rating as alleged. Also Captain Olugboyega Olubiyi Ayokunle whose photograph is hereby attached to this disclaimer is not a Nigerian Navy officer. The naval uniform insignia worn by the suspect is fake as such not that of the Nigerian Navy,” he stated.

“Therefore he cannot be serving in the Western Naval Command of the Niigerian Navy as alleged in the news report,” he added.

The DINFO declare that the said “Captain OA Olugboyega is a wanted Person by the Nigerian Navy for offences ranging from impersonation and illegal possession of fire arms as shown in the attached pictures”.

To this end, he said, the general public is advised to henceforth desist from dealing with the imposters who claim to be in the Service of the Nigerian Navy, as the Service will not be responsible for their fraudulent activities.

He however, urged that “when and wherever sighted, they should be apprehended and handed over to the nearest Naval or military formation for prompt action”.

ICPC Cautions VIOs Against Extortion, Bribery

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has advised Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) in Kaduna State to avoid extortion and other forms of corrupt practices.

The ICPC North-West Zonal Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Adigun, gave the advice on Thursday at a two-day workshop for VIOs in the state to enlighten them on the need for integrity and transparency.

The workshop with the theme, “Combating Corruption in Vehicle Inspection System: The Role of ICPC’’, was organised by the ICPC in collaboration with the Kaduna State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport.

Adigun said the level of extortion and bribery by VIOs had continued to deny the state government huge revenue, adding that such practices must be stopped.

“Corruption simply occurs when a person in a position of trust and responsibility suppresses the rules in order to advance his or her personal interest at the expense of the public.

“A reasonable number of VIOs extort money from motorists instead of charging them for the offences committed, thereby reducing the Internally-Generated Revenue of the state.

“Such practices must be stopped for us to make progress,’’ he said.

Adigun blamed the persistent deterioration in values, decency and transparency in the country on the deliberate circumvention of ethics and discipline to facilitate self-interest.

According to him, “one major cog in our wheel of progress as a people is the issue of bribery and fraud, particularly now that the nation is ushering the needed change for sustainable development.”

Adigun said the workshop was to enlighten and challenge VIOs to abhor corruption and imbibe integrity and transparency in the course of their duties.

“The workshop provides an opportunity for ICPC to further drive home the anti-corruption message in fulfilling its mandate of educating the public on corruption, indiscipline, unethical character and dishonesty.

“We need your support as we fight to create and sustain a corrupt-free and transparent working environment in all government institutions and parastatals,’’ he said.

Adigun was represented by the Zonal Assistant Commissioner, Malam Musa Alkali.

Also, the State’s Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Alhaji Usman Hassan, represented by the Director of Engineering in the ministry, Malam Mohammed Badamasi, commended the ICPC for the initiative.

Hassan said the workshop was the first in the history of the Vehicle Inspection Department in the last two decades.

He urged the VIOs to utilise the knowledge derived from the exercise to drive the desired change in the vehicle inspection profession.

The Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Alhaji Ali Dantsoho, thanked the ICPC and the state government for ensuring that the VIOs performed their duties diligently, transparently and effectively.

General Muhammadu Buhari And The Burden Of Expectations By Fola Aina

On May 29th Nigerians and the rest of the world will be witnessing history unfold, as the in-coming Administration led by Gen. Buhari will be sworn in. During the general elections which took place in March and April, Nigerians in their numbers defied all odds as they came out en mass to express their rights to vote. While the international community had its eyes firmly fixed on Nigeria, Nigerians themselves felt a sense of fulfilment and national pride, reassured by the fact that they brought about the desired change they had for so long clamoured for.
A few days to the Presidential elections, U.S president Barack Obama sent a special message through live broadcast, calling on Nigerians to maintain the peace and shun those who called for violence. Before this, the well-seasoned top diplomat of the USA, John Kerry, had been dispatched to Lagos to broker a peace agreement between the major contenders President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari. Many saw this as a show of concern from the president of the free world. Some feared that the elections would take the same course of previous elections in the country, characterised by chaos, violence and lack of credibility. To the amazement of most, the reverse was the case. Nigerians and the world at large, have since attested to the credibility of the recently concluded elections which has since been adjudged as one of the freest and fairest in the history of Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
President elect Muhammadu Buhari no doubt has a lot on his plate. It would be recalled that there were several attempts by his opponents to discredit him before the elections. Yet he stood tall in the midst of all allegations directed at him. He seemed to have kept his focus on the task ahead. He remained relentless and tenaciously pursued the mark set before him. His resilience and show of maturity has since culminated in his emergence as president elect of Africa’s largest democracy.
While having a conversation at one of his campaign events with his erstwhile running mate and now vice-president elect, Professor Yemi Osinbanjo, the retired General noted accurately that some Nigerians expect that from the second day of his Administration, their plight would have been addressed. This poses a major challenge for the in-coming Administration. Nigerians exhibited so much vigour and passion as they voted for change. They will not settle for anything less for delivery. The call for change and how quickly this change would be effected would for a long time to come, define the Buhari Administration under civilian rule.
For General Buhari, his immediate task, as a step in meeting up with these expectations would be to set up a competent cabinet. Nigerians are tired of recycled hands. A team that knows the tasks to be met and that is ready to make the necessary sacrifices in delivering on the mandate that Nigerians have bestowed on them would be General Buhari’s gift to Nigerians. As in politics, there is a need to compensate political bigwigs, but doing so at the expense of national development should no longer be tolerated. A befitting cabinet under the Buhari Administration should be composed of 85% technocrats and 15% politicians (non-corrupt)
The tasks ahead require that those with proven track records of delivery and technical expertise are appointed to move Nigeria to its manifest destiny. The stakes are just too high for political appeasements to triumph over collective common-sense in the quest for national progress and development.
While General Buhari must have the burden of expectations clearly spelt out for him, he should be guided by the fact that Nigerians have given him a mandate to get their country back on her feet. To do otherwise would be to hasten a rapid fall in his approval ratings. For a start, the retired General should acknowledge that not even 8 years is enough to solve all of Nigeria’s many challenges. But as a decisive step, he should be willing to hit the ground running in supersonic speed.
Security should be on the top of his list. He should move very quickly to dislodge, defeat and dismantle the rise of the Islamic State in West Africa. Amplifying human intelligence on the ground would be very much welcomed in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria. Unemployment must be accorded unreserved priority. While doing this, he should simultaneously push for an improvement in power generation and distribution across the country. A massive operation to improve on the state of our roads nationwide would be most welcomed too, alongside other pressing challenges, a step at a time, and a day at a time. Nigerians will be watching closely.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. God bless Nigeria’s nascent democracy.

Corrupt Officials In Buhari’s Govt Will Be Jailed – Prince Tony Momoh

With barely 20 days to the inauguration of General Muhammadu Buhari, former Minister of Information and Culture, Prince Tony Momoh, has stated that the incoming president will not tolerate corruption.
Prince Momoh noted that any corrupt elected official who is found compromising his position will be jailed by the president-elect, Leadership reports.

Momoh, who was spoke during the maiden meeting of the One Voice Nigeria (OVN)-Discourse/Leadership Colloquium, also stated that the Buhari administration will follow fully, the rule of law and would not in any way tolerate any one compromising his position.

He commended the group for putting up a formidable force that fought tirelessly through the social
media which aided a great deal in the presidential victory of Buhari during the general election.

Chief-Tony-Momoh, former Minister of Information and Culture

“We didn’t have money for space in newspaper and to talk in the radio or television station about ourselves. If election was to have been conducted in radio and newspapers, we would have lost. But it was the voters that had the say, and they voted for Buhari,” he said.

The ex-minister also described Buhari as a simple man who did things without compromise and urged elected officials to be prepared to emulate the president-elect by following the rules and regulations without attempting to bend them.
Over the last four years, there have been several alarming and scandalous cases of corruption in Nigeria. Some perpetrators have been taken to court, some cases were never even investigated as many of the cases remain unsolved.
Many were of the opinion that President Goodluck Jonathan’s inability to expunge corruption, dented his chances of a second term. No wonder a 72-year-old former dictator-General Muhamadu Buhari intelligently capitalized on this singular factor (corruption) to win a historic presidential election with the slogan of “change”.

Meanwhile, it was reported that outgoing president, Goodluck Jonathan and incoming president, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari met behind closed doors at he Presidential Villa in Abuja to discuss the details of the handover with the latter expected to be inaugurated May 29.

James Ibori Has Suffered Enough! Grant him Presidential Pardon – Ijaw Group Urges President Jonathan

A call has been made for president Jonathan to grant presidential pardon to James Ibori before his exit from Aso Rock. The call made by the Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, in Delta State says the former governor of the state ,deserves to be pardoned .

Speaking to newsmen, the National President the group, Mr. Austin Ozobo, said:

“Chief Ibori has suffered enough and there is no justification for not granting him clemency, as had been done to others.Ibori should be freed. Hundreds of persons, who looted heavily from government coffers are walking freely in the streets. The continuous incarceration of one corrupt man among a million other corrupt citizens cannot change the menace of high level corruption in the country.Ibori’s imprisonment could be seen as a witch-hunt and such is highly barbaric and provocative and the Nigerian government must quickly do something about his matter. ‘’Despite the ordeals Ibori is passing through, Deltans hold him in high esteem and his great achievements while in office cannot be discountenanceded. There should be no sacred cow among political office holders. Ibori’s case is not different, he is a victim of circumstances. Release him and let him breathe fresh air and let other corrupt public office holders be tried as well.”

”Alison Diezani Madueke Never Made Any Donation To APC Through Me” – Senator Bukola Saraki

The attention of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s media office has been drawn to an online article alleging that the controversial Minister of Petroleum. Ms Diezani Allison Madueke who has been engulfed in series of questionable transactions made contribution to the All Progressives Congress through Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

This office usually will ignore such reports as we find it completely laughable, baseless and lacking any iota of truth. However, for the avoidance of any doubt and to keep with the renewed mandate of accountability and transparency, we find it necessary to assure the teeming Supporters of APC and Senator Saraki that at no time did Senator Bukola Saraki meet, discuss or had any dealings in any form or nature with Ms Deiziani or her agents.

Senator Saraki hereby challenges either the Minister, her agent, associates or any other person that might have any evidence or information contrary to the above to share same with Nigerians.

The last time Senator Saraki met with Ms Deiziani was in year 2012 when the Minister, her mother and her sister visited the Sarakis’ on a condolence visit over the death of Dr. Olusola Saraki, the father of Senator Saraki.

The alleged publication is total falsehood and completely mischievous therefore, this story can not fly or sell, rather, the promoter should find something else to cling on as they remain with a drowning party.

The credit of the success of General Buhari, and our dear party APC across the country can only be claimed by Nigerians in every nook and cranny of the federation who sacrificed their resources, time and energy to bring about the change this country deserves and that should not be tainted by any individual or group of people who stood as stumbling block to every step taken towards achieving this noble and worthy struggle.
