A Kenyan bar brewed Clinton and Trump beers for #ElectionDay

This is possibly the most novel way to capitalise on the US election that we have come across so far.

The BBC’s Patrick Kihara spotted a bar in Kenya’s capital Nairobi has brewed its own Clinton and Trump beers.

Clinton Brew has a “floral aroma” while Trump Brew has “low bitterness”.

We aren’t clear as to whether these are just the description of the taste of the beers or also a commentary on how the beer makers perceive the two presidential candidates.

If it’s the latter, we’re a bit flummoxed as to what a person with a malty character would be like.

Man Stabs Another For Refusing To Buy Him Beer

A Lagos court has slammed a N300, 000 bail on an unemployed man, 32-year-old Debo Adisa, for allegedly stabbing a man with a broken bottle at a hotel for refusing to buy him a beer. Adisa was released on bail on Tuesday by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Adesanya, who gave the ruling, said the accused should produce two sureties as part of the bail condition.

Adisa, whose address is unknown, is being tried for breach of the peace and assault. According to the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused committed the offences on Oct. 3 at Donmorgan Hotel, Dopemu, Lagos.

He said the accused assaulted Mr Temitope Segun by stabbing him with a broken bottle for refusing to buy him a beer. “The accused used a broken bottle to stab the complainant repeatedly all over his body.”

Nwosu said the complainant was in the hotel taking a drink when the accused approached him and ordered him to buy him a beer but he declined.

“The accused started hitting him. The complainant hit him back and the accused got angry, broke a bottle and started stabbing him. “Blood was gushing out of the complainant’s body and people in the hotel ran away while the management of the hotel quickly alerted the police to arrest him,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant is still receiving treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

Awesome Research: Suya Is Healthier When Eaten With Beer – Scientists

A group of researchers at the University of Porto, in Portugal, have said that barbecued meat, popularly known as suya, in Nigeria is healthier when cooked and eaten with beer.

The lead author of the study, published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Dr. Isabel Ferreira, said the recommendation was given following the results of various experiments conducted by the scientists.

According to Ferreira, cancer-causing chemicals and molecules such as The PAHs are formed through the process of grilling or barbecuing meat and some chemical in beer could neutralise these free radicals.

She said, “One way of stopping PAH-formation might be to apply chemicals called antioxidants that mop up free radicals. And beer is rich in these, in the shape of melanoidins, which form when barley is roasted.”

In one of the experiments, Ferraira and her colleagues prepared some beer marinades, bought some meat and headed for the griddle.

“One of their marinades was based on Pilsner, a pale lager. A second was based on a black beer, since black beers have more melanoidins than light beers—as the name suggests, they give it colour.” The meat steeped in the black-beer marinade formed fewer PAHs than those steeped in the light-beer marinade, which in turn formed fewer than the control meat left unmarinated in beer,” she stated.

She noted that the meat that was not cooked with beer when cooked had an average of 21 nanogrammes (billionths of a gramme) of PAHs per gramme of grilled meat, while those marinated in black beer averaged only 10 nanogrammes of PAH.

Ferreira, however, cautioned against over consumption of barbecued meat with beer or other forms of alcohol that may not have been sourced from barley.
