Arms Deal: Accord Party Asks Ladoja To Return N100m Recieved From Anenih

National Secretary of the Accord Party, Dr. Samson Isibor, has asked the National Chairman of the party, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, to return the N100m collected from Chief Tony Anenih under the guise of campaigning for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Dr. Isibor said Chief Ladoja did not disclose receipt of the money to state chapters of the party.

Dr. Isibor said in Benin City that the party was disturbed about the revelation from the arms deal scandal.

Isibor urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute Chief Ladajo until the N100m is returned to the coffers.

His words, “Ladoja should be made to return the money. No money was disbursed to state chapters of the Accord Party.”
“What he did with the PDP without our consent was fraudulent.”

Olu Falae: The N100m I Got Was For SDP To Support Goodluck Jonathan

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Olu Falae has stated that he collected N100 million from the ex-Chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Anenih.

Chief Olu Falae stated that the money was purely an inter-party affair between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Social Democratic Party, SDP, which he is the National Chairman. He further stressed that the money was given to the SDP to campaign for the PDP in the 2015 presidential election, that both parties prior to the 2015 general elections entered into working agreement.

“In the build up to the presidential election, the PDP approached the SDP which I chaired. The then ruling party solicited for our support in order for President Goodluck Jonathan to win the March 28 presidential election”.

“Anenih related with me as the chairman of the PDP BoT and I did same as the SDP National Chairman. He wrote to me as PDP BoT chairman and I wrote back as SDP National Chairman stating conditions/terms for the alliance”.

“It is true that N100 million was given to my party to endorse and work for the Jonathan’s candidature in the 2015 election. We used the money for that purpose and we effectively campaigned for the PDP since we did not have presidential candidate in the election. The money was not for me”.

“Thank God I’m a retired civil servant. I have all the documents to prove all that transpired between the two parties.”

“With all the money PDP has and having spent 16 years in power, how would I know that the money was from the arms deal? No reference was made to the arms deal. So, they should not bring me into the arms issue. The relationship was purely interparty affairs.”

Tony Anenih, in a letter addressed to the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu had mentioned thatOlu Falae and some former governors were given N100 million each in the build up to the 2015 presidential election.

The letter also stated that Tony Anenih gave another group from Katsina State N35 million, while second republic Presidential Adviser on National Assembly, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, got N63 million. Tony Anenih had stated that the money was transferred to him on the instruction of former President, Goodluck Jonathan for specific assignments.

$2.1bn Arms Deal: Al-Makura Calls For Maku’s Probe As Supervising Minister Of Defence

Gov. Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has called for the probe of the failure of Mr Labaran Maku to rescue the Chibok girls as the supervising Minister of Defence in the last administration.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity ,Alhaji Tukur Ahmed, on Sunday in Lafia .

The statement said the probe was necessary in the interest of justice and fairness to the parents and guardians of the 200 female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno.

According to the governor, the ongoing trial of the accused persons in the embezzlement of $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase should not exclude “those who allegedly collected money in the name of securing the release of Chibok girls but never did”.

Al-Makura noted that the investigation will go a long in revealing “how Maku, as Information Minister deceived Nigerians on the purported release of the Chibok girls”.

“It was alleged that the former Minister also collected several millions of Naira under the guise that they were negotiating for the release of Chibok girls from Boko Haram”, he added.

He pointed out that Maku’s recent assurance that he will speak up on the $2.1bn arms deal is a ploy to draw public sympathy.

The governor also challenged Maku to explain his role in the Ombatse and Baba Alakyo Saga over the killings of 86 security operatives while he was supervising the federal ministry of defence.

The statement commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to defeat Boko Haram, saying the insurgents are in disarray.

It called on all Nigerians especially the residents of the North East to support “this patriotic and honest drive to bring lasting peace”.

$2bn Arms Deal: Sack Looms Over Emefiele- Report

Ongoing investigations into how $2.1bn meant for the procurement of arms was squandered may lead to the premature exit of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

A source in the presidency said that circumstances that surrounded the appointment of Emefiele, including recent revelations about movement of the funds, and his involvement in the unexplained presence of two former heads of commercial banks, when President Buhari hosted members of the international business community in London, are being counted against the governor.

“Already,” the source said, “a small team of legal and financial experts has been directed to weigh the various implications the removal of the CBN chief could trigger, especially to prevent a similar backlash, as when the past government engineered the untimely retirement of former CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.”

The source explained that the team was set up to examine all sides to the issue, adding that the presidency is worried that such enormous amounts of money were carted away from CBN as if “it was in Idi Amin’s era.”

“One thing you should known about Buhari is that before he takes a crucial decision that involves prominent appointees, he sets up a small committee to investigate the issues and report back to him”

The source said the embarrassing presence of the two top bankers at the London meeting infuriated the President to the extent he approached the duo, asking how they were invited, and informing them that he personally handled the selection of who attended.

“Checks revealed the possibility that since the well known bankers added their voices in recommending Emefiele for the CBN job, he (Emefiele) might have hinted the two, convinced their clout would open doors for them.

“There is also information that the current CBN governor is remotely related to the immediate past Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy (CME) in President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.”

Another source disclosed that should the plan to have the CBN governor resign sail through, a replacement might be sought from the South East or South South geopolitical zones to avoid outrage and cries of marginalisation by the present administration.

“We cannot speculate on the possible candidates but former President Olusegun Obasanjo is believed to have dropped some hints to President Buhari about the right calibre of persons, including Professor Chukwuma Soludo and Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili.”
