Wayne Rooney is preparing himself for his testimonial against Everton tonight, with the match set to make history on social media.
The Manchester United captain is playing his boyhood club in the glamour tie to celebrate more than a decade at the Red Devils, and will raise several millions of pounds for charity.
But, in a world’s first, the match will also be streamed live on Facebook – making it available to over 1.7 billion users.
The game – which is Jose Mourinho’s first as United boss at Old Trafford – will be the first match between two Premier League sides streamed on Facebook, with both Rooney and United’s official pages offering the match to their combined 100 million followers.
The charities involved are the NSPCC, Claire House Hospice, Alder Hey Childrens Hospital and the Manchester United Foundation.
What do you make of the initiative? Would you like to watch more games on Facebook?
