Open Letter To President Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari By Omonile olasunkanmi

Dear Muhammadu Okechukwu Buhari,
It is tradition that I first congratulate you on your historic victory at the just concluded presidential election. It is by no means child’s play and I owe it to you, your dedication, passion and resilience to specially felicitate with you on this occasion. You’ve always been an integral part of our history since your infamous coup (though some think it was the right thing to do), but now you’ve cemented your place in the heart of our story. Henceforth, whoever tries to chronicle Nigeria and sidelines you must be talking about our neighbours without the “IA”. Once again, congratulations your Excellency.
I was never a fan of you as an aspirant, some of my reasons for not supporting your ambition are detailed in an article I authored last year titled “people you shouldn’t vote for in 2015” and published on www.omojuwa.com, but since you won I have decided to lend my full support and prayers to GOD so you’ll run a hitch-free government to His glory and our collective benefit.
Lots of people especially your die hard supporters seem to think your victory was divinely orchestrated and it somehow reflects the desires and yearnings of Nigerians: vox populi, vox dei. I strongly disagree or the people of Enugu must not be hearing from GOD, I think most people voted along religious and tribal lines and if the head count between the northerners and southerners were reversed, I’ll be addressing this letter to a different person! Therefore, your first and most important job will be to unite this deeply divide nation and help tone down our differences while extolling those virtues that bind us. Age and experience is on your side, the late comedian, Gbenga Adeboye said a veteran warder is more skilled at putting a stubborn inmate under control.
Secondly sir, I’ve gone through some of your campaign promises and with all due respect, most are ridiculous. They’re nowhere near feasible considering the state of our economy and the predictions that oil price might not pick up anytime soon. I believe you played by the rule which states; “a good politician is a man who stands for what the voters will fall for”. I want to believe you have more plausible plans up your sleeves. I’ll suggest you consider investing in education, power and other basic infrastructure that’ll help reduce the cost of running small and medium scale businesses; the bedrock of every thriving economy. This will stop us from further slide into abject poverty and put our feet on the long road to prosperity.
Finally, I know you are as surprised as I am at President Goodluck Jonathan’s post election reaction considering how politics is being played in this country and the little stunt His party agent pulled at the collation centre. You must agree with me that he deserves some commendation, his action almost made me forget the numerous flaws of his administration. I hope you’ll let that spirit of fair play live beyond this election. I hope the case against you in court swings in your favour, if not, I believe you’ll be a gentle man too.
Thanks for your time, GOD bless you!
Yours’ faithfully,
@sunkytemmy
