Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, has condemned the act of open defecation that is rampant in most towns in the state, saying it has led to avoidable diseases.
Speaking while monitoring the monthly environmental exercise in the state on Saturday, the governor also charged landlords in the state to provide toilet facilities in their houses.
He said it was shameful that the state should be noted for such unhygienic act and that a stop should be put to it.
“We can no longer condone such acts that could lead to the outbreak of diseases. People defecating in the open is uncivilised. Landlords should provide toilet facilities in their houses.
“Henceforth, sanitary inspectors and health officials will be going round to monitor the situation and any defaulting landlords will be sanctioned.
