5 Ways To Make A Long Distance Relationship Work

1. Share the nitty-gritty
Communication is vital to any relationship, but it’s even more important when you don’t have the option to meet for dinner, hit the gym, or spend the weekend together. Spend time every day talking on the phone, chatting on FaceTime, or Skyping. Texting is great, but it isn’t enough. Ask about your partner’s day and actually listen. Be creative with how you communicate. Surprise your special someone with a love letter, a video, and picture messages. Be constantly present in each other’s lives, even from afar.

2. Talk about the big stuff
According to this study, there’s a reason why people in long distance relationships were no more likely to break up in the first three months than in traditional relationships, yet 40% of long distance relationships end after four and a half months. You need a plan and a goal to work toward. Ask the big questions. Why are you in a long distance relationship? What does it provide you with? Is there an end date? Maybe it’s about following your own ambitions or taking time to decide if this relationship has what it takes to make it. Talk openly about what you both want now and in the future.

3. Plan, Travel, Repeat
There is nothing like the anticipation of an upcoming vacation together or a firsthand peek into each other’s lives. Stay focused on these trips. Spend time planning the details, counting down the days, and preparing for that moment you’ll see each other (fireworks, I promise). Rather than focusing on how much being apart sucks, talk about how much fun you will have on your next trip together.

4. Talk Dirty

Just because you’re a million miles away doesn’t mean you can’t turn each other on. Send sexy text messages, video chat, and talk dirty. Nothing is as good as the real thing, but you need to make an effort to maintain sexual tension from afar. Feel out what you both are comfortable with and be open in expressing what you need. When you do finally see each other, make out like teenagers and enjoy the wild excitement of uninhibited love.

5. Have a life
Your long distance relationship will require effort and time, but don’t let it take over your life. Take this time apart to invest in yourself. Do what you love and spend time with friends; anything that keeps you from moping around and sending sad-face emojis to your significant other. Being in a depressed state isn’t good for either of you. Make an effort to live your life to the fullest while ensuring you make time for each other.

Kim Davis Resumes Work, Still Refuses To Authorize Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

Kentucky clerk Kim Davis has been released from jail and has returned to work, but she wants her name and title removed from all marriage licenses.

“Effective immediately, and until an accommodation is provided, by those with the authority to provide it, any marriage license issued by my office will not be issued or authorized by me,” Davis told a crowd gathered at the Rowan County Judicial Center on Monday.

“I love my deputy clerks and I hate that they have been caught in the middle. If any of them feels that they must issue an unauthorized license to avoid being thrown in jail, I understand their tough choice and I will take no action against them,” Davis said. “Any unauthorized license that they issue will not have my name, my title or my authority on it. Instead, the license will state that they are issued pursuant to a federal court order.”

7 Daily Habits That Can Make You More Successful At Work

Here are seven daily habits that, if practiced regularly, can boost your success at work:

1. Focus on strengths, not weaknesses. Sometimes, in an effort to be perfect, we channel valuable time and energy into trying to get good at things that aren’t part of our natural aptitude. Charlotte Crivelli, co-founder of Klick Communications, believes this is a mistake. “At my company, we instill a culture that people should work on tasks that use their core strengths,” she says. “We don’t believe in wasting people’s time getting them to improve their weaknesses. Someone else will be strong where they are weak, and it’s my job to ensure everyone is working on what energizes them and not what depletes them.” To take this advice to heart, make a habit of prioritizing as many of your truest skill sets as possible on a daily basis.

2. Work how you work best. On a related note, not everyone works equally well in identical settings. While you may not have an option to work behind closed doors if your company favors an open floor plan, there are work habits you can develop to play to your strengths and improve your focus. A recent survey by office furniture company Turnstone found that 32 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds prefer working individually in a lounge setting over a traditional work environment.

If your company doesn’t provide your ideal space, think about simple changes you can make to your daily work environment. “Not everyone works the same way, so don’t feel restricted by the space that you’re in,” says Brian Shapland, general manager at Turnstone. “If you need to do head-down work, use headphones, or find a secluded area in the office to set up shop. If you need to be inspired, seek out a collaborative space so you can bounce ideas off of co-workers.”

3. Control your attitude. The mood you bring to work can affect not only your own morale and work performance, but also that of those around you. Therefore, another healthy habit to practice daily is taking control of your mental attitude. “An old saying goes: ‘The city of happiness is in the state of mind,'” says Karla Brandau, CEO of Workplace Power Institute. “To enjoy more satisfaction at work, it is important to regularly check your viewpoint, because negativity can dominate your life, which depresses not only your mind, spirit and body but your productivity level.”

An additional strategy for attitude adjustment is to practice being where you are at work rather than thinking about outside relationships and personal challenges. “If you are physically at work and are focusing on other life issues, then you aren’t mentally at work,” says Mike Rodriguez, professional speaker, training expert and author. “This means you cannot perform in an effective manner.”

4. Make better eating choices. How you fuel your body before, during and even after work can have significant repercussions on your ability to perform at your best.

Kristen Smith, a registered dietitian based in Atlanta, recommends that employees start by establishing a meal schedule and planning meals that will be eaten at work. “You may need to pack a meal or snack to ensure you do not go a substantial time without eating,” she says.

Here’s what else she recommends for optimal workplace nutrition: eating a meal within one hour of waking and continuing eating snacks or meals every three to four hours thereafter; including a low-calorie, protein-rich food in your first meal of the day, such as eggs or Greek yogurt; staying hydrated by drinking at least four to six cups of non-sugary beverages at work; and avoiding caffeine several hours prior to the end of your workday to allow for adequate sleep when you leave the office.

5. Do one good deed. While taking care of your own physical and mental needs at work, keep in mind that a habit of doing something nice for a colleague can make you feel even better. Studies have shown that a little altruism goes a long way. A 2012 study by Wall Street Journal (Europe) and iOpener Institute for People and Performance revealed that happier workers help their colleagues 33 percent more than their least happy colleagues.

“We’ve all experienced the boost that happens when we lend a helping hand to someone else, and this pay-it-forward principle holds true in the workplace,” says Melody Wilding, licensed therapist and workplace psychology expert. “Whether it’s taking on some simple tasks for an overwhelmed colleague or grabbing an extra coffee to give away in the morning, giving back to your team is a surefire happiness hack.”

6. Don’t dwell. Your after-work habits help set the tone for your next day in the office, so it’s important to get them right. When you have a bad day at work, you may find yourself replaying the events of the day over and over in your mind on your commute home.

Paula Thompson, founder of Foresight Coaching & Consulting, points out that mentally imagining conversations that did not go well activates the same biochemical and hormonal processes in your body as when the event originally occurred. “You are literally physically recreating the event in your body, keeping your stress hormones high,” she says. “If you find yourself dwelling, allow yourself 10 minutes to purposefully replay the event in your mind, identify what you can learn from the experience, and then close the flashback and move on.”

7. Establish an evening reflection ritual. A related habit that can help you kick the tendency to dwell on what didn’t go well is to establish an evening reflection ritual.

Before you pack up to leave the office each evening, Wilding recommends taking the time to review three things that went well during the day or that you feel grateful about. “This little ritual — no matter how tough the day was — can become something to look forward to and help you end each day on a positive note,” Wilding says. “Even better, this steers your brain toward habitual, positive, growth-oriented thinking. As you work to identify three things you’re grateful for — don’t cheat and settle for two! — you’re training your brain to see opportunity in challenging circumstances, rather than allowing it to get stuck in a pattern of negativity.”

Pres. Buhari’s Schedule Shocks Aso Rock Staff And Will Probably Shock You As Well

A new report has surfaced on abusidiqu.com which reveals the daily routine of President Muhammadu Buhari as he presides over the affairs of Nigeria from the presidential villa in Aso Rock.

According to the report, the president lives an austere life. The president works from 7am into the wee hours of the night, but still makes out time for his five daily prayers as a devout Muslim.

Continue to see his full schedule below:

Mr. President then consults with few underground advisers and aides in one of the guest houses in the villa on a daily basis to weigh his options in his policy decisions.

Speaking about the tight schedule of Buhari, Mallam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant on media to the president said: “Maybe because of his military background, the President wakes up early and he is an avid listener to radio stations. Before he reports for work by 7am, he must have listened to all the talk shows on radio and you will be amazed how he picks you up on some national issues discussed on radio. Most times, he starts his day by 6am.”

He continued saying: “The President works from the early hours of the day till 1am and 2am. In fact, there was a time the team around him had a meeting and expressed worries that the President was having only three hours of sleep. They therefore redesigned his schedule by saying no more appointment by 9pm. The new policy did not last more than one week. After that, the President worked till 1am.”

Responding to a question on the issue, Shehu said: “I think it has to do with his military training because it got to a point that one of the youngest staff working with the President could not cope with his schedule.”

Hugh Jackman’s Wife Says He’s ‘Not Allowed’ To Work With Angelina Jolie

Deborra-Lee Furness has been married to Hugh Jackman for nearly 20 years, and she has one rule when it comes to his on-screen love interests.

While he’s gotten hot and heavy with the likes of Scarlett Johansson (Scoop) and Ashley Judd (Someone Like You) on the big screen, Furness isn’t so keen on having her hubby work with A-list actress/director Angelina Jolie.

“I’ve told his agent he’s not allowed to work with Angelina,” she quipped during a joint interview with Jackman, 46, on Australia’s Todayshow. “I’m sure she’s lovely.”

All jokes aside, the couple also shared their secret to a long, happy marriage. “That’s the deal with this business. If you get it right, if you pick the right partner, then, you traverse all those travails and challenges ,” Furness, 59, said.

“We’ve managed to keep that,” Jackman chimed in. “Deb had a rule, never apart for more than two weeks.”

Gushing over her heartthrob husband, Furness added, “And we don’t wanna be apart. He tells really good jokes. I mean I miss him.”

Stop Giving Excuses, Get To Work- PDP Tells Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as evasive, diversionary and preemptive, the present government’s pile up of excuses for possible failure in delivering on its campaign promises to Nigerians.

I’ll Leave With Jonathan Rather Than Work With Buhari- Kuku

Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku, has announced his intention to resign as head of the Presidential Amnesty Programme before or on May 29.

This followed calls by some Nigerians and groups on the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to scrap the programme.

Head of Media and Communication in the Presidential Amnesty Office, Dan Alabrah, in a statement quoted Kuku as saying that he would be returning to his village in Ondo rather than serving under the new government.

The statement reads in part: “The chairman wishes to disappoint the plotters as he is not interested in continuing in that office, more so as his boss, President Jonathan, is leaving office on May 29, 2015. “As the President is returning to Otuoke in Bayelsa State, Kuku is also going back to Arogbo, his Ijaw community in Ondo State.

“Having diligently served Nigeria for four years, it is time to move on. He is very proud of his achievements under the Amnesty Programme, which is domiciled in his office as Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta.

“No amount of mudslinging, blackmail and campaigns of calumny can erase the spectacular and verifiable achievements recorded by the Amnesty Programme under the Jonathan administration…”
