Enyeama named among Ligue 1’s top African footballers of the week

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has been named as one of the top five African Players of the Week in the French Ligue 1.

According to the list ,published by France Football on Monday, Enyeama is the third of the lot.

His selection is as a result of his brilliant performance for Lille in their 0-0 away draw against Dijon on Saturday.

With the help of his two centre-backs, Marko Baša and Simon Kjær, Enyeama kept 11 consecutive clean sheets in Ligue 1 matches during the first half of the 2013 season.

Aside Sebastian Corchia, the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner is the second Ligue 1 player to have featured in all of Lille’s 21 league games this season.

He joined Lille in June 2011 and has now played 118 games for the team.

Enyeama became an idol of Lille and French football fans when he almost equalled the record of Gaetan Huard in the French League.

He came within 114 minutes of equalling Gaëtan Huard’s Ligue 1 goalkeeping record but on December 8, 2013, Enyeama finally conceded a goal after playing 1,062 minutes of Ligue 1 football in an away match against Bordeaux, during which he was beaten by Landry N’Guémo’s deflected strike in the 27th minute.

Other players on the list are Cheick Diabate of Metz and Mali, Francois Kamano of Bordeaux and Guinea, Prince Oniangué of Bastia and Congo, and Guingamp and Senegal’s Moustapha Diallo.

NFF In Talks With Enyeama, Emenike Over Possible Return To Super Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), says it is in talks with Vincent Enyeama and Emmanuel Emenike, former goalkeeper and striker respectively, over possible return to Super Eagles.

Super Eagles Interim Coach Samson Siasia who said this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, said the aim was to ensure that the country assembles its best legs against Egypt.

The Super Eagles have crucial two-legged Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), qualifying matches against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

The first leg encounter takes place in Kaduna on March 25, while the return leg match is scheduled for Cairo on March 29.

Siasia said NFF was exploring every avenue capable of bringing success, adding that it had taken steps to facilitate the players’ return to the team.

“We just finished talking with the NFF Technical Director, Shaibu Amadu; we are just putting the list of invited players together and after the NFF Technical Committee meeting on Thursday, the list should be released’’, he said.

“The Super Eagles’ Secretary, Dayo Enebi, will be contacting the invited players and he is talking with Enyeama and Emenike; we will talk with them when they are ready to talk.

“We will be happy to see these players back in the team if they can help us to qualify for 2017 AFCON’’, he said.

The Olympic silver medal winning coach, however, said he was not under any pressure to win Egypt.

“The job for me is tasking but we are here for challenges and, being a challenge does not mean that it is a mountain we cannot climb.

“I am not feeling any pressure; all I want to do is to ensure we do well in the two games against Egypt.’’

Siasia was appointed on Friday by the NFF as interim Super Eagles coach following the resignation of Sunday Oliseh.

He is to be assisted by Flying Eagles’ coach Emmanuel Amuneke, Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu.
