Gabriel Jesus Cleared To Make Debut Against Tottenham

Manchester city have been cleared to play 19-year-old Brazilian winger, Gabriel Jesus, against Tottenham on Saturday, after formally completing his £27 million move from Palmeiras.

The Brazil international, Jesus, has agreed to a five-year deal with City in August.

He stayed with Palmeiras until the end of the Brazilian season in December.

The footballer has won an Olympic gold medal with his country, having scored three times in the men’s football tournament in Rio, after which he was promoted to the senior Brazil team, for whom he has scored five times in six games.

Jesus arrived City at the start of January but registration to play for his new club was delayed while the English football association examined documents relating to his move.

Harry Kane extends his contract with Tottenham

England and Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, has signed a new contract to keep him at White Hart Lane till 2022.

This will come as a relief to manager Mauricio Pochettino after the striker was linked with a move to various other teams, including Manchester United.

Kane said after signing the deal, “It’s amazing. Everyone knows how much I love this team and what I feel for this club.”

The 23-year-old England striker made his debut in 2011 against Hearts in the Europa League, and had since gone on to score 70 goals in 173 appearances.

The new contract will see him stay at the club till 2022, having signed a five-year deal in 2015 and is also believed to substantially increase his wages.

Kane, who had loan spells at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City, before getting a regular chance at Spurs, has been the club’s top goal scorer for the last two seasons and he won the Premier League’s Golden Boot award in May.

Kane has become one of the most sought after forwards in world football, with Manchester United and Real Madrid both said to have been following developments closely.

However, any speculation regarding the Englishman’s future can now well and truly be put to bed after he committed his future to the club for another five-and-half years.

Tottenham Game Will Be Difficult – Moses

Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses believes that the side must be at their best if they are to record a win in Saturday’s Premier League fixture against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The leaders will seek to win their seventh league game in a row when they face Mauricio Pochettino’s men at Stamford Bridge.

But the Nigeria star Moses, who was voted man-of-the-match in the Blues’ 1-0 win against Middlesborough at the Riverside last weekend, is expecting a tough game against Spurs who are unbeaten in the league this season.

“We know it will be a difficult game and we know how good Spurs are,” he told the club’s official website.

“They have quality players but we just need to concentrate on ourselves. We’ve been working hard in training and we know what we need to do individually.

“Hopefully, it will all come together on Saturday and we can get another three points.
“It will be tough but we believe in ourselves and we know we have the players who can score goals and make a difference.”

Moses, who has been a revelation for Chelsea this season, hailed his partnership with Pedro Rodriguez.

“We’ve been working hard on it in training. Pedro has been playing really well, he’s getting used to the Premier League and he understands the game very well,” Moses added.

“He’s enjoying his football, scoring a few goals and helping out defensively as well. I like playing with Pedro, we have a great understanding between us and it’s working well for the team.

“He’s a great player and he’s won everything so you have to respect his achievements. When you come to a new country it can be difficult but he’s got to grips with it now and he’s doing well. The fans are enjoying what he brings to the team and we’re all pleased for him.”

On his man of the match award against Boro, Moses said: “It was a big boost for me but the most important thing is the team.

“We all worked very hard and enjoyed the game against Middlesbrough. It was a match in which we had to graft in order to get the three points because we knew we would go top of the league if we won.

“We just have to keep believing in ourselves. I’m enjoying my game at the moment and I just want to keep on improving.”

I was sexually abused by my football coach for four years – Paul Stewart

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Paul Stewart and two other ex-players have come forward to allege sexual abuse at the hands of youth coaches when they were children.

Stewart, capped three times by England, said he was repeatedly sexually assaulted by a man who threatened to kill his family if he told anyone.

The 52-year-old, who also played for Liverpool and Manchester City, joins former Crewe Alexandra players Andy Woodward and Steve Walters in speaking out about abuse they suffered.

“The mental scars led me into other problems with drink and drugs,” Stewart told Wednesday’s Daily Mirror.

“I know now it was a grooming process. The level of abuse got worse and worse.

“I wanted people to know how difficult it was to come forward. It stirred up a lot of my past which I thought I had buried.”

Stewart, a married father of three, said other players were also abused by the man, who was not named.

Stewart was encouraged to speak out after Woodward told The Guardian he had suffered years of abuse at the hands of convicted paedophile Barry Bennell, a former youth coach at Crewe.

Bennell was jailed for nine years in 1998 after pleading guilty to sexual offences against young boys.

He was imprisoned for two years in May 2015 for a historic sexual offence against a boy and has also spent time in jail in the United States.

Cheshire Police, responsible for policing the Crewe area, said six people had come forward saying they wanted to speak to police in the light of Woodward’s interview.

– ‘Immense courage’ –

Woodward told The Guardian: “My life has been ruined until the age of 43, but how many others are there?

“I’m talking about hundreds of children who Barry Bennell cherry-picked for various football teams and who now, as adults, might still be living with that awful fear.”

Walters, who became Crewe’s youngest debutant in 1988, said he had also been abused by Bennell.

“All these years, I’ve had this secret inside me,” he told The Guardian.

“But I have to let it all out now. It’s the only way. I want closure and I know, for a fact, this is going to help me move on.”

Based in northwest England and currently in England’s fourth tier, Crewe have a well-established reputation for developing young players.

Crewe chairman John Bowler, who was in position at the time of Bennell’s offences, told the BBC the club were “distressed” by the accusations and would review the situation.

He added he was “very sorry for the distress caused” to Woodward and Walters.

Woodward has been praised for speaking out by Britain’s National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

“It is time for the government and sports organisations to work together to close gaps in child protection and make sure that the thousands of sports clubs across the country have robust safeguarding policies in place,” said an NSPCC spokesman.

England’s Football Association has set up a helpline for former players to report abuse.

In a joint statement, the FA, the Premier League and the Football League described Woodward’s story as “heartbreaking” and praised his “immense courage”.

Fenerbahce Deny Emenike Move To Tottenham

Fenerbahce remain adamant that Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike is not set for a move to English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

With Spurs reportedly looking for a striker to take the goal scoring burden off Harry Kane, there has been talk that Eminike is a target for the north London club.

Emenike’s agent, Erdem Konyar, has been happy to fuel this fire, recently saying: “Tottenham only really have one striker right now so it is not a surprise that they are interested.”

Konyar, however, admits that Fenerbahce have not received any interest yet.

“However, I do not think Fenerbahce have received an official bid yet. If Fenerbahce give us permission we could enter negotiations,” he said.

The club have made it clear they do not plan to let go of their prized asset, who has scored 25 goals in 40 games since arriving from Spartak Moscow in an £11.2m move 18 months ago.

“Emmanuel Emenike is a Fenerbahce player and has a contract with us until 2017, there are currently no transfer talks,” read a club statement.

It has also emerged that the Istanbul-based team have already rejected an offer for Emenike from Spurs.

“The offer for Emenike came and they offered 10 million euros. However, I trust him; therefore, I rejected the offer
