“Forget presidency until Buhari finishes his tenure”, Anenih tells PDP.

Tony Anenih, a former board of trustees’ chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has told the former ruling party to forget about the presidency until the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari is over.

Speaking when the leadership of the Jerry Gana strategy review and inter-party affairs committee visited him in Abuja, Anenih said it was very shameful for members of the party to be struggling for the presidency and other elective positions when the party was not yet in order.

The former ruling party is torn between two opposing blocs – Ahmed Makarfi camp and Ali Modu Sheriff camp – over leadership.

Four of its members in the upper chamber of the national assembly defected to the All progressives Congress (APC) within three months.

Commenting on the challenges, Anenih said reorganisation of the PDP should be the main focus.

“When Buhari’s tenure finishes, we will know who takes over from him. When he finishes his tenure, there will be more conventions on both sides and God will lead us to choose somebody who will help Nigeria,” he said.

“He may not be a party member now, either APC or PDP, but if God says that is the person, we will vote for him.

“God will direct the party to go and bring him. If He says it is President Muhammadu Buhari, of course, he can finish his tenure, but one day he will hand over. So what is important is to organise a party.”

Anenih said selfish interest landed PDP where it is at the moment, and advised the party leaders to organise a convention that would lead to the emergence of credible leaders who can offer constructive criticism to the APC.

“Right from 2014, we have missed many opportunitiesto reorganise PDP. It is because of the selfish interest of some party leaders that PDP is where it is today,” he said.

“PDP should have been in power now but everybody wants to be a presidential candidate, national chairman… It is never done.”

He told the party leaders to stop saying they were waiting for the court of appeal judgement before reorganising PDP.

Anenih also appealed to Nigerians to pray for the speedy recovery of Buhari and his return to Nigeria, expressing worries over some negative comments about the president’s ailment.

“I think what Nigerians should do now is to pray for Buhari to come back home in good health, bring out Nigeria from the woods and reposition things,” he said.

“Let God give him speed recovery so that we can receive him. That is more important to me than talking about Osinbajo would have to resign.

‘’Why should we be talking about this? It is silly and very unfortunate.”

The elder statesman spoke after former President Goodluck Jonathan said he was happy that PDP was planning to  regain the presidency.

Armsgate: Return The Money You Collected Or Face Trial – EFCC To Falae, Dokpesi, Odili, Bafarawa, Others

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has warned all those involved in the alleged sharing of the $2.1bn cash meant for the procurement of arms for the military fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East to return their part of the loot or be ready to face trial.

The EFCC decided on refund of cash after retrieving some of the memoranda which the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), wrote to then President Goodluck Jonathan requesting for funds, The Nation reports.

Some of the beneficiaries of the cash include former governors Peter Odili (N100m); Rashidi Ladoja(N100m), Attahiru Bafarawa(N100m), Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi (N100m), and Jim Nwobodo(N500m), Chief Tony Anenih(N260m); ex-PDP National Chairman Ahmadu Ali(N100m); Chief Bode George (N100m/ $30,000), Yerima Abdullahi (N100m); Chief Olu Falae (N100m); Tanko Yakassai (N63m); Gen. Bello Sarkin Yaki(N200m);

Others include, Raymond Dokpesi, Iyorchia Ayu’s company(N345m); BAM Properties (N300m); Dalhatu Investment Limited(N1.5bn); ex-PDP National Chairman Mohammed Bello Haliru, Abba Mohammed, Sagir Attahiru, serving and former members of the House of Representatives(over N600 million); former Chairman of the House of Representatives on Security and Intelligence, Bello Matawalle (N300m); ACACIA Holdings (N600m); Bashir Yuguda (N1,950,000) and many companies.

Speaking with the newspaper, a source from the EFCC explained that based on the vetting, the commission is insisting that all those implicated so far must refund the “illegal disbursement” of cash or face trial.

The source said, “We have conducted a thorough investigation and we have retrieved some of the memos sent to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan by the former National Security Adviser; none of them indicated that the cash should be for political purposes.

“There was never a memo for cash advance for political matters like campaign or election.

“We have also traced some of these funds directly to the accounts of these bigwigs or their proxy companies.

“Having gone far, we are asking them to return these funds or else, we will go after them any moment from now. I think they should respect themselves and make urgent refund.

“In the alternative, we will arrest them and arraign them in court to defend such strange allocations.

“We will retrieve every kobo given out from ONSA. It is insufficient to say somebody gave me this money. Once we trace undeserved public funds into your account or phony and proxy companies, we will ask for refund.”

On reports that former Military Administrator of Kaduna State and a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Gen. Lawal Jafaru Isa(rtd) refunded some amount of money, the source added: “He admitted collecting money from ONSA and he has refunded 60 per cent of the sum credited to him. I think it should be about N100 million.

“Isa is the only person who has so far refunded money among the political figures who collected funds from ONSA. We have granted him bail to allow him time to source for the balance.”

Throwing more light on the continued detention of the PDP spokesman, Metuh, the source said: “So far, Metuh has admitted the transfer of N400 million by ONSA into a company in which he has substantial interest.

“It is left to him to justify why he deserved such benefit from arms cash. We are still questioning him on other remittances into the company’s account. We are also demanding how he will refund the cash.

“Contrary to the noise outside, we did our homework very well. Anybody we bring to the EFCC this time around, we used to make sure that we have established a case against him.

“So, we don’t invite or arrest on frivolous basis. We do thorough investigation this time around.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has urged its members involved in sharing the slush funds from the Office of the former National Security Adviser to return what they collected, stressing that it did not ask any of its members to collect money on its behalf during the last general elections.

This was disclosed by the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Jalo, in Abuja

According to Jalo, no one has claimed that the money received from from the embattled former National Security Adviser was on behalf of the party.

He said, “When people say that this party benefited from the money meant for arms, I laugh. This is because we didn’t as a party get a dime from the former NSA.

“The party therefore has nothing to do with anyone who has collected money from the former NSA. Anyone, who has collected money from him, should return it. They are on their own.

“They will face trial without the party’s coming to their rescue. PDP is a clean party that has not taken money meant for the procurement of arms and ammunition or from the Federal Government.

“All those who collected money from Dasuki used their personal companies to do so. We didn’t send them.”

The PDP deputy spokesman dared the government to further investigate the matter and come out with findings showing that the party used public funds to finance its operations.

Mu’azu’s Resignation: North East To Produce New Chairman

The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Adamu Mu’azu, finally succumbed to intense pressure on Wednesday and resigned.

This comes as new national chairman of the party will come from the North East Zone.

Mu’azu, it was gathered, submitted his resignation letter to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party sighting health concerns.

Upon Mu’azu’s resignation, the deputy national secretary, Uche Secondus, assumes leadership of the party, according to the provisions of the party’s constitution.

It was also gathered that the party leadership may summon a National Executive Committee (NEC) next week to empower the new leadership of the party.

Although Mu’azu based his resignation on health grounds, it was gathered that the pressure for him to resign was overwhelming.

The former chairman had been under pressure from governors of the party and other party members who demanded that he should resign following the loss of President Goodluck Jonathan and the resultant electoral misfortunes that befell the party in subsequent elections.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, had pointedly accuse Mu’azu of working against the interest of the party during the election.

In same vein, media director of PDP’s Presidential campaign, Femi Fani-Kayode, had also disclosed that he had files on two members of the National Working Committee (NWC) who worked against the interest of the party during the elections.

Confirming the resignation of Mu’azu, the national publicity secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, explained that Mu’azu resigned because of medical issues.

He added that Mu’azu, who travelled out of the country for medical attention, stayed back to treat his health issues even through the party primaries and the campaigns of the elections.

Metuh said “for now, because of the interest being generated, I can confirm as the national publicity secretary that the national chairman who has health challenges, stayed down for the primaries, stayed dawn for the campaigns of the election after which he travelled abroad for treatment.

“Upon his treatment and after consultations with his family, has decided to resign as national chairman. We commend him for the sacrifice that he made during the campaigns and commend him for the love, dedication and commitment he has to this party and we wish him well. We will not forget his services.

“In line with the constitution of the party, the deputy national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, has taken charge as the acting national chairman of the party with immediate effect pending replacement from the North East.”

It was however gathered that more heads are expected to roll within the party, particularly in the Board Of Trustees (BoT) of the party.
