‘Terry Could Still Earn A New Deal’ – Chelsea

The Blues captain announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign but the Premier League champions have issued a response

Chelsea have hinted that captain John Terry could yet be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge, despite the defender confirming that he will be leaving the club when his current contract expires at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Following Chelsea’s 5-1 FA Cup win over MK Dons on Sunday, the club captain told reporters that he had been made aware that his deal at Stamford Bridge would not be renewed and indicated that he would look to continue playing outside of the Premier League.

But following Terry’s revelation, Chelsea have issued a statement hinting that the door may still be open for the 35-year-old to sign a new deal at the club.

“He is a fantastic servant of Chelsea Football Club and a superb captain and, as such, the club will keep the channels of dialogue open,” the statement read.

“While no new deal currently on the table, that situation could change in the coming months.”

In an emotional admission following the MK Dons game, Terry had admitted that the situation around his contract could change, should a new manager come into the club and want the 35-year-old to stay on.

“They said that when the new manager comes in, things might change. It’s a no at the minute,” Terry said.

“Unfortunately it was a no. It’s not going to be a fairytale ending, I’m not going to retire at Chelsea.”

Mourinho Slams Gerrard Talk Of Terry Rift

Talk of a potential rift between the Chelsea captain and the Portuguese coach has been denied by the Stamford Bridge boss.

Jose Mourinho has dismissed Steven Gerrard’s suggestion of “friction” between the Chelsea manager and captain John Terry, claiming the pair get on fine.

Terry watched the 4-0 Champions League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Wednesday from the bench, while the experienced defender was hauled off at half-time as Chelsea were beaten 3-0 at Manchester City in the Premier League last month.

Gerrard, a former England team-mate of Terry’s, expressed his disbelief in the pre-match build-up that the 34-year-old skipper had been dropped for the Maccabi Tel Aviv clash.

“There’s certainly a bit of friction behind the scenes because for me, you play John Terry week in, week out. He’s your captain,” Gerrard said on BT Sport.

But Mourinho has played down talk of a rift, saying: “Steven is wrong.

“I have a very good relationship with him. He’s wrong, because we have no problems.”

Mourinho made a number of changes to his starting XI following poor form in the Premier League, which sees champions Chelsea trailing leaders Manchester City by 11 points after five games.

Eden Hazard once again disappointed with an early penalty miss on Wednesday, but goals from Willian, Oscar, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas secured a comfortable win for the Blues.
